From USA Today bestselling author Kenya Wright comes another installment in her popular interracial mafia romance series, the Lion and the Mouse. This book must be read after Dirty Cravings (Lion and Mouse book 6).Although featuring sexually explicit scenes, this is not a romance.Due to a temporary peace agreement between the Brotherhood and Corsican, Maxwell and Boris leave with the French and embark on an adventure that proves to be deadly, life-changing, and brutally hilarious.
There is a flashback that may be psychologically triggering to those that have experienced sexual abuse. This moment is not used to entertain, but to provide insight into the traumatic bond that Maxwell and Emily have with each other.
Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.
Words are power, and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.
It's an audacity to inspire and teach the healing of love through arousal.
It's this crazy idea that love can not only help a reader escape, but the story can also teach the person about being human, while making them laugh, cry, and hot for more sex.
Maxwell has always been a funny guy but his time together with JP in this book is comedy gold😂😂🤣🤣. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much reading the other books in this series.
This book delves into Max’s psyche as he thinks about his life🤔. What’s gonna happen going forward, is he done being a playboy and ready to settle down with a wife and some kids🥰, what kind of father will he be, will he continue to be by Emily’s side😊, how can he reconcile what happened in the past and will Emily understand🥺😢. This book has you in all the feelz with heavy heartbreaking parts that’s gut wrenching but it’s balanced with lots of laughter, action and of course sex😈 because you know how Max is😝😜🤣. Some of the revelation Max is confronted with is a huge surprise and will require additional soul searching🫤. I loved the cast of characters in this book, despite where their loyalties lie they they all worked together to survive another day😬👍🏽.
This book is an absolute hit and a perfect addition to the Lion and Mouse series. Ms. Wright your writing style is unmatched, the way you pull us in grabbing our attention and emotion is genius🙌🏽. The addition of the illustrations definitely gets the imagination going😈🥵😈. The book ends is a huge cliff hanger and gives you a pretty good idea of how crazy the next book will be. I cant wait to read it.
When I tell you I was howling from start to finish, I am not exaggerating! Finished in one sitting with no breaks. Absolute comedy gold with some feeling invoking scenes and thoughts. I always knew there was more to Max but to see him struggling so much in this book and how he questions whether he’s enough to love was heartbreaking. I’m truly excited to see him meet his woman and get closer to JP & Boris as well as getting him & Misha back on track. Having said all that, that ending, WTAF?!!! 😲
How is it possible that I read the majority of all the books in this series but I skipped over this one!!! And I loved this one! Maxwell deserves all the happiness, the love, and the weed this world can give him with the traumatic childhood he endured and the new found family he discovered he has. Maxwell deserves peace!
So worth the read for the next episode. Max is always a character and it has not changed. So ready to see what will happen next. It’s almost time for the bandy.
Read the series and fall in love with the Russians and the Harlem crew the pans's are comic relief for me. The Lion and the Mouse are completely enthralling
A couple of things this book deals with a lot of dark themes. I went in knowing to a certain extent (rape and molestation), but I wasn’t expecting the mix of gore and blood play. So, take my review with this in mind bc there were parts that I kept thinking is this necessary incest (multiple occurances) and having sex with animals. What was the reason? Idk even if those things weren't included if my rating would be higher. Max clearly is struggling with his childhood trauma and every step of the way I thought it will get addressed but nope he continued to rely on sex and weed. He even gesture to that fact that he should do something different but doesn't. Sir, wtf! I also don't get after 7 books why he's so obsessed with Emily. Is his motivation protecting Emily out of guilt, love, shame, or obligation? Maybe all of it but this was supposed to be his journey, his time to figure things out. To me all I ended thinking was 20 chapters to find out it's just a curse and his bloodline is tainted. Come on that doesn't sit well with me. Every other spinoff book felt like we got context and resolution but it does not happen for Max. The disrespect! Now the ending made me think ok maybe the next book bc he has all this information but I am very disappointed that I have to wait for the next book. Oh and the New Orleans detour to the brothel felt like an afterthought. Strangely enough this book has mostly 5 stars so again I'm not sure what's not clicking for me but I can't in good conscience recommend this book. Thankfully it does read like a standalone so I don't think you will miss anything if you skip it.
Side note I always appreciate that Kenta Wright drops in nuggets of information about the country/city. It's always fascinating but...I'm heated. I'm being generous because I think the build up to this war should/could be epic. So will I continue the series. I trust the world building and her storytelling abilities. This book just wasn't it 🤷🏾♀️
The narrator was awful. I almost was waiting for him to insert dialogue akin to you jive turkey. He didn't capture Max at all. And don't get me started on the French, Russian, New Orleans accents. Why bother. Oh cringey hearing him groan it was H.E.L.L.
CN: rape, incest, animal sacrifice, blood baptism, sex with a carcass, voyeurism, torture, unprotected sex,
**there's section with voodoism not a content warning because it has it place and should be respected but definitely read more of mind control and/or manipulation so that part needs the warning
**there's also an exchange between the sex worker about her race I didn't love it felt borderline fetishism but I absolutely disliked that Max said something like you shouldn't be doing this type of work then proceeds to have unprotected sex with her MULTIPLE times. Am I supposed to feel better bc he paid for her to get out. With all due respect go kick rocks.
This book was a page turner from the first paragraph I was like this is going to be a great read. This book is emotional, hilarious and just plain fun to read. I am excited to continue exploring the world you have created. Light Spoiler ...I suspected after in Dirty Cravings Max's familial ties. I would like to hear this book on Audible with duel readers for the butcher and Maxwell. I really enjoyed every book in the series as well as the Butchers books. I do want to mention I would have enjoyed hearing a russian accent when listening to the other books on Audible. I am not sure why they never used a true russian voice reader for Kaz or really any of the russians and colloquial ways of speaking being they are in other countries should match for the country. I am highly anticipating the next two books in the series. Thank you for you time.
Wow! That's the first thing I can say about this look into Maxwell's mind. Kenya hit the sh%$ out the park! You gotta go love Maxwell but him with the French, especially hanging with Jean Pierre absolutely hilarious and a page turner. This one right here I can't wait to listen in Audible with the accents and the true intensity of the weed smoking smart a$$ remarks of Max, and don't forget Raphael 'The Comedian'.. which I can't wait to see more of Jean Pierre's cousins. Can't wait to get to Dirty Wars and see if Dark Em doesn't get lost or stay in the dark! This was🔥!👏🏼
I waited so long for this story and it did not disappoint! I knew it! I was so excited to see where I thought dots connected in my mind in the other stories come together here. Maxwell is so loveable and hilarious! He needs someone special just for him. I have a new fondness for Boris, I want to see him moving forward as well. The fact that JP had the nerve to call anyone irrational after the stunts he has pulled is laughable - this one literally almost got them killed. Max was being Max, so I get it but sheesh! I feel really good about abandoning all my adult responsibilities to read this book today. Will read again before the next installment!
Kenya Wright, you are truly a master. I loved everything about this book and all the books in this series. I loved everything that happened in this book. I always hoped to read a book about Maxwell and you answered all the questions I had so far about Max and also Max and Emily's life but, you also created new questions. I have so many more now. One of things I loved about the book was the illustrations. They were just as hot as the book and every time I wondered what that seen would look like there was a picture that captured the scene. The illustrations are always that little bit of extra fire. I can't say enough how much I loved this book. I hope someone from Amazon reads this and puts this book back on KU. One bad review shouldn't remove a book without first having others weigh in. So if your reading this review and your a true KW fan you won't be disappointed. And shame on Amazon for not supporting your writers. PUT THIS BOOK BACK ON KU!!!
I absolutely enjoyed this book. I am so happy the author gave us more insight on Maxwell. And you could see his growth. I cant wait for when love finds him. JP and Borris was very entertaining. I really hope Dirty Wars will be out soon. And Dark ‘Em what will she have in store for us. I love this series!!
I needed this! It was funny, dark, therapeutic, insightful. Being about to experience things through Maxwell's eyes is a must! Love his love for Em. Love how real his character is. We need more Max!!!
I can’t describe how good this was. Let me rephrase that, this was hilarious!!! Maxwell was funny in every book but this one took the cake. There were so many moments that had me laughing out loud and snickering at work. Kenya Wright you have done it again!! The Butcher and Mr. Dirty Mack provided non stop action, comedy and drama. So glad that you provided us with Maxwells back story and his breakthrough. Sometimes kids carry the sins of their parents and that trauma sticks with them forever. Yet you provided us and Mr. Dirty Mack with solutions and sermons, hello!!! This was sooo good!!! I truly love this series and I can’t wait for the next installment. Come on Blue and King David!!!
This book was A-mazing! Not only do you get flashbacks to help you understand Maxwell but you get a high octane adventure surrounding his self discovery. I really love that we got to see Max outside of Emily’s bubble and that he got to have some good character growth. Can’t wait to see how he jumps back into the world of the Lion and the Mouse upon his return. ❤️😊
Insight to Black Man's journey to recovery from childhood trauma
Maxwell, Em's childhood friend, while on assignment in California, experiences hardships forcing him to relive his childhood hood trauma... and begin taking steps to heal his soul.
Happy-go-lucky Maxwell let's us into his emotions. He shows us what he is made of; he shows us his heart.
😲 OMG I couldn't put the book down once I started it. This was a fast-paced action thriller with lots of gore and humor as is Kenya Wright's signature style of storytelling.
This book was all kinds of crazy good. I was soo upset when I looked down a saw I was getting close to the end!!!! I love the twist she chose to take. It has a warning attached to it but as a survivor of child hood trauma I appreciate how she touched on the subject. It give those of us whom have experienced it someone to relate to… keep up the Amazon work can’t wait for the next book!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. Maxwell was already one of my favorite characters and now I just love him even more. This book had me laughing so hard but also sad at times. Max is holding on to the sins of his father when they're not his sins to bare. Boris and that eagle.... OMG😂😂. I wonder if Tiana is the woman of Maxwell's dreams. If not I hope he find her soon cause he's gonna need peace after dealing with the chaos Dark Em gonna bring.💙💙
First off I love Max. This story gave me so much insight on him and the trauma bond with him and Em. But if pure love and loyalty. I’m loving how everything is coming full circle, just showing how the weather rod is so small. I’m so ready too read max love story. 10 out of 10 this author never disappoints me.
OMG...what did I just read!!! This was funny but intense, it answered sooo many questions and shed light on the family dynamic in Maxwell life.. Oh and the pictures was such a bonus, Dark Em is back y'all... Can't wait
I enjoyed this book. Shame on you Amazon for removing this book. We all have different opinions and ideas about what books bring us joy and sometimes sorrow. But you took the choice away from your customers to make . if I chooses a book and decide the content hit some buttons in a negative way then I have lived and learned. You need to trust and believe I know what is best for me. One person decision to dislike a book should not be the reason to remove it.
I don't know what the other reader is talking about, but this book had me cracking up. I would love a follow up on Maxwell's family dynamics. I would love to know if he finds his lady love. Great read.
I've been saying that Maxwell deserved his own story and here it is! Throughout the "Lion and Mouse" series, most of my highlights were things that Maxwell said! That being said, "Dirty Macking" was excellent! Maxwell is more than just the wise cracking, hilarious sidekick to Emily. We find out what makes him tick. Outstanding read!
What a trip Max, Jean Pierre and Boris had! I felt like I had been smoking after reading this. Boris and the eagle😶 Kenya Wright be writing on another level. This series may not be for everyone but its right for me. Anxiously awaiting the next book!
