Now a grad student in North Carolina, Jasmine’s got one last shot at making forever happen with her dream man. When she’s in Jonathan’s arms, they fit like they were custom-made for each other.
But stitching their radically different worlds together the same way?
While ghosts from the past are fighting like hell to tear them apart?
That’s a totally different story.
This story.
The Lightning Field concludes the Angel Interceptors Trio. Expect to find behind-the-scenes views of touring life, open-door steam, heart-rending secrets, struggles to overcome trauma, and a guaranteed HEA.
Elizabeth Corva worked in the music industry for 14 years before moving to the relatively sane and stable world of defense contracting. She has collected a road case full of stories that she uses as inspiration for her novels.
The Angel Interceptor series was conceived as the sun was setting on Hair Metal, born during the early days of fictionpress, and came of age in 2013 when the author finally worked up the nerve to try self-publishing. All of Elizabeth's works are dedicated to the men who play Metal and the women who love them, even though they should know better.
I just wanted to say thank you to Elizabeth Corva for the opportunity to read this ARC before it published. 🥰
This is a rockstar romance that’s in third person and follows both Jon (Jonathan/Kit Stelfox) and Jasmine. Amazon says it’s book #3 but it can be read as a complete standalone (which is what I did). The story does jump around a timeline, so it’s important to pay attention to the dates listed to understand and realize what’s the present and what happened in the past. There’s some spice, but it’s not an overwhelming bit and doesn’t get too graphic. Overall, I enjoyed the book and really can’t wait to see how this continues (if it continues) because it was finished with so many open strings that there could easily be a sequel and I’m here for it!!
Jonathan is the lead singer of a rock band (Strange Angels) that’s gotten back together after a break to mend each person’s personal life and she’s a grad student that’s dating him and has been obsessed with him since she was a teenager. Like, can you imagine dating your rockstar idol from childhood? OOOOOF, heeeeey Pete Wentz, Frank Iero, Kellin Quinn, and Brendon Urie. 🥵 Back to the story, the book follows Jon on tour and him and Jas trying a long distant relationship with frequent travels when either of their schedules allow. Each of them are working on overcoming and conquering their past traumas - Jas has PTSD after being attacked, and Jon has a bit of a rocky past life as well. The book does start a bit slow, but it’s building up the background information on their relationship, who they are, but it definitely amps up and pulls you in. Once I got to like 30%, I couldn’t really put down my kindle and my husband was ready to hide it.
A gorgeous rockstar romance with angst and authenticity! Some couples you love so much that you’re just happy to hang out with them. I could cheerfully watch Jonathan and Jasmine make sandwiches with as much rapt attention as seeing them embroiled in drama or having wild bedroom antics. The Lightning Field completely seduced me.
Though the third in a series, this book can be read as a standalone. The story is set in 2004 (loved the nostalgia!) and launches with a comeback tour by acclaimed rock band Strange Angels, fronted by UK hottie and my new book boyfriend (STEP OFF, B*TCHES – JON IS MINE) Jonathan Fox. On tour with him is his girlfriend Jasmine, a decade younger and his former assistant.
The insider view of the intricacies of a touring rock band was fascinating for me. Jonathan is an absolute heartthrob (I swooned in the epilogue), Jasmine is smart and feisty, but still retains the girl-next-door vibe. The supporting characters are top crackers – I loved every one of them and felt like I’ve known them forever.
There are struggles for the characters as they deal with the exhaustion of touring, periodic long separations, trying to align their life-goals, creepy obsessive fans, and finally, a harrowing secret which nearly breaks Jonathan. (Thank god I was reading it on Kindle, or I’d have been turning pages fast enough to risk papercuts in the last 1/3 of the book)
Steam level is moderate, well executed, and NOT fade-to-black. The writing and dialogue are smart and vivid, and the characters unforgettable. Highly recommended for readers who love a realistic and heartfelt rockstar romance.
Just imagine dating your rockstar idol... Yeah that sounds good right. In between touring and working, Jasmine and Jonathan try to make their relationship work. They both have issues from the past that they need to deal with. I loved how I got to read this rockstar romance with all the highs and rollercoaster of things they go through.
The chemistry between Jasmine and Jonathan was very present. I don't want to give too much away, but I very much liked the story and the time it was set in.
I am not a big fan of third person, but I will be checking out the other books in the series. Although it is part of a series, I did not feel like I was missing anything important. It can be read perfectly as a standalone.
The writing is very good as well. I loved the length of each chapter. And can I just say that I absolutely love the cover!
This is the last book in Jasmine and Jonathan’s story and like all the books before it, we end up on a rollercoaster ride that I don’t want to get off 😒 however this was the perfect way to finish their story.
I don’t do spoilers so I don’t want to give to much away BUT what I will say is that I was totally caught of guard by one secret in particular.
I love how we’ve seen Jas grow and mature throughout the series and she really does come into her own in this book. She has gone through some seriously tough shit in her life and I am so glad she gets her happily ever after!!
Jonathan hasn’t had the easiest of lives either but he is definitely a good soul and deserves his HEA just as much as Jas.
Overall I loved this series and would definitely recommend reading it.
