It's Christmas in Ashton Falls. The last Christmas before Alex and Scooter go off to college. Zoe Is determined to make it the best Christmas ever so she enlists the help of the entire gang ignoring important clues relating to her own health which lands her at the doctor’s office for an unexpected visit.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Sleighs, Sleuths, and Siblings is the thirty-fifth book in Kathi Dailey’s Zoe Donovan Cozy Mystery series. As always, this book conveys a powerful message of the value of friendship, family, and community while incorporating intriguing mysteries with a touch of romance. The well-developed characters are three-dimensional and affable in this steadily paced book. There are multiple twists and red herrings that keep the reader engaged. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
With Christmas just around the corner, Zoe’s feeling a little melancholy because this will be the last Christmas Scooter and Alex are living at home since they both will attend college next year. Zoe and her best friend, Ellie Denton, aren’t actively involved with Hometown Christmas this year since Zoe is in the first trimester of her second pregnancy and Ellie is expecting her third child, but they attended the committee meetings to keep apprised of how everything is going. When Zoe learned that the man portraying Santa during the town’s annual Hometown Christmas this year, Weston Rogers, her first thought was to investigate, but then she remembered that she’d promised her husband, Zak, that she wouldn’t get involved. Not knowing something or not being involved with investigations was difficult for Zoe, so she decided that calling Sheriff Salinger would be okay since it wasn’t really investigating. As more and more crimes happened, Zoe called Salinger pretty often. While he had promised Zak that he would encourage Zoe to stay out of things, he acknowledged that she often contributed positively to his cases and agreed to keep her in the loop and let her provide insight as long as she promised to leave the legwork to him.
While I did enjoy the earlier Zoe Donovan series, now not so much. The author portrays the female characters as baby making machines and not much more whereas Zoe's character used to have a lot more in depth and suspense. I'm not sure why this series hasn't ended but it should.
I kind of hate writing reviews although the authors that I love to read are so beyond deserving of excellent reviews. Kathy Daley is most definitely one of those authors! My intention was to write this review after the next and last book of this series, but since that option didn't present itself, I came back to this book to write my review. I have read this series and the Alaska series both in their entirety. Both have been amazing and I enjoyed the crossover of the books at times.
The Zoe Donovan cozy mystery series was created to come alive in a small town and area that you want to visit again and again. The series covers a tight knit group of friends from childhood into their adult child rearing years. The complexity and changes that happen in their lives and the people who come and go are both full of complexity, detail, and texture. The series ends in a way that there could maybe be more down the road or maybe a spin off. Suffice it to say I have loved each part of this series and I think that you would too!
Sleighs, Sleuths, and Siblings might be my favorite Zoe book yet, and I've loved them all! Alex and Scooter are going to be off to college soon, so this will be the last Christmas with everyone still living at home and it's an emotional time for the whole family, especially Zoe, as she is also pregnant with their second child. When Santa turns up dead, it is only the beginning of the deaths and it is looking like someone dear to Zoe could be on the list. While Zoe has promised not to get involved in anything dangerous, since she is pregnant, she can't just completely ignore it either, so while having a mostly hands off approach, she is very much using her head to help the sheriff figure out who is responsible and to keep her loved ones safe. Wonderful story for the holidays and any other time. I highly recommend it.
The latest book in the Zoe Donivan cozy mystery series, set in Ashton Falls with Zoe, Zak, their family and all the other regular characters which I've come to love in this series.
It's nearing Christmas, and a series of fires abd unexplained deaths gets Zoe sleuthing around, despite she promised Zak that she'd stop.
These are easy to read cozy mysteries which are easily read in a couple of hours. All standalone stories which are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series. I can't wait for the next book in this series to be released.
If you like this series, try one of Kathi Daley's other cozy mystery series, they're equally as good.
A big surprise about Zoe's pregnancy along with a few surprising deaths keeps things hopping as Zoe plans on how to prepare herself and Zak for twin boys on the way and keeping from investigating the murders and taking it easy with this pregnancy. On top of all that realizing that for Alex, Scooter and the rest that this is their last Christmas before college. With so much going on Zoe can hardly help it for information finds its way to her ears but she's sharing it with the sheriff to help get these murders solved. Lots of curve balls in this story as it winds its way to finding the killer and the surprises just keep coming. If you like mysteries, then you'll love this story.
I have enjoyed this series since it started. This book was excellent because I was able to spend time with characters I love not because it’s the best in the series.
This series has many wonderful, exciting and adventure filled books! I highly recommend starting with a earlier book. Each story has a self contained mystery but the characters are reoccurring.
This book is not back story friendly for a new reader unlike prior books. Honestly, it feels more like the beginning of goodbye to me. I know a new release is coming out around May 2023. I will happily read it when released!
Even if you have not read this wonderful series up to this point, you will enjoy visiing Zoe and her crew. This is a turning point for her as she is seeing her adopted children move on in their lives and is expecting her second child, plus her best friend is almost ready to give birth. Oh but it is so difficult to sit on the sidelines! Great friendships, always a good mystery, and lots of twists and turns.
Once you meet Zoe, her famiy and friends, you'll want to read this series from the beginning.
Kathi Daley is one of my favorite authors, but this story wasn't exactly my favorite. In the beginning there was a lot of sadness and I almost stopped reading it, but I knew it would get better. As the mysteries started unfolding I was inspired to continue, but it all unraveled and I was just disappointed. All of the family Christmas stuff was fun and finding homes for the dogs was a great way to end the book.
I'm sorry to see the end of this series as I have read every book and enjoyed the evolution of Zoe,Ask and their extended family. Thank you Kathi Daley for such good stories.
The story took so many twists and turns but in a good way. So excited for all of the babies due probably in the next book or two. Interesting that the crimes and deaths seemed to be linked but in the end not even close. Loved it for sure.
Zoe with surprise twins bring about sure happiness until trouble starts that cause grief to th entire Donovan Zimmerman family. It's Christmas time so what could be so tragic?
Zoe and Ellie are both pregnant over this Christmas holiday season. The doctor has a surprise announcement for Zoe. Murders and fires are occurring and being investigated.
