Blast from the Past

Rate this book
When the ghost of your dead best friend shows up at your doorstep and tells you that he's taking you back to the 1980s to fix everything in your life that went wrong, you shut up and listen...then pack your bags and get on your way.

Both light-hearted and heavy, this venture through time transports you to a small town in Kansas, in 1983, when Ash Earnhardt and Miles Goodwin jump back into their 17-year-old bodies to give adult perspective and grown-up insight to their wild and decadent, turned tragic, senior year of high school. The pair quickly realize that the game they’re playing is much more difficult than either of them anticipated as they struggle to heal old wounds, let go of regrets, and put everything behind them.

Part Dickens, part Spicoli, part Fear and Loathing, Blast from the Past is an edgy, true-to-the-time, bittersweet tale of friendship that puts a unique spin on finding closure and letting go.

This author is also published under James "Jeb" Wright.

My name is Jeb Wright and I write books! My latest work is titled Kill the Leprechaun. No, it’s not a story about leprechauns. It’s a tale of life, created in a new universe by a guy that should not create universes—ever!

Like all of my writing, the true meaning isn’t found in the subject, like leprechauns in this case. The true meaning of my writing is found in the characters I create—and Kill the Leprechaun is chalked full of interesting, diverse, loveable, and despicable characters.

My characters, while I am writing about them, are real to me. I hope they became real to you as you read this book. I see them, feel them, get to know them, laugh with them, cry with them, and shout in anger with them. They are important to me. When I finish writing the story I grieve them leaving me, just like a best friend that takes a job across the country.

I hope you enjoy them. I hope you enjoy Kill the Leprechaun, or my other novel, Blast from the Past. I learned a lot writing them, and I think anyone that loves stories that are funny, tragic, whacky, silly, intense, bizarre yet relatable, will love them too.

Hmm…I suppose, since this is an about me page, I should close by lowering my walls and telling you a tad about the author of these books I mentioned above.

Here it goes:

I live in a small town in Kansas. I’ve been married 28 years to the same woman. I have wonderful kids and grandkids that are even more wonderful. Despite being old enough to have grown kids and grandkids, I am a perpetual teenager—but not a teenager in the modern day, but rather a teenager in 1984. I love cheeseburgers. I love classic rock music. I love writing stories. I love figuring out life and conquering the dysfunctions of my past. I love my family and I love me. One of the most gratifying things that can happen to me is having someone read and comment how much they enjoyed my book. I also get a kick out of when someone reads it and doesn’t like it. I guess I just like attention. Lastly, even though KTL is not so much about leprechauns, there in one in the story and, yes, he must be killed.

Enjoy!

Thank you!

In the worlds of one of my favorite rock stars, Ozzy Osbourne …

“I LOVE YOU ALL”

Peace, love, happiness… and cheeseburgers,

Jeb

Oh, my. What to say? I just finished reading Blast from the Past by Jeb Wright and I have to write this review while I'm still in the zone. Great story! Teenage craziness with best friends experiencing the highs and lows of growing up. There is lots of fascinating music trivia and characters that are relatable if yet somehow seeming older than their years. Drugs, alcohol and sex are heavily present so be forewarned. Recomnended!

Although sad, sad, sad, it was beautiful reliving the music from 1984. I feel like this author may have written this as a way to heal from loss. At 17, kids just want to have fun, but sometimes life takes it from them. I cried. It’s always a good book if it makes me cry.

Great story of love and friendship

Interesting twist on a story of friendship and loss. If you grew up in a small town, you will be able to relate. I laughed and cried.

A Christmas Carol meets Fear and Loathing. Like O.C. and Stiggs, but realistic. The author definitely knows his material and era. Beneath the hedonism is a story of devoted friendship transcending the years. Like those Christmas phantoms, the book delves deeply into the past, present and future. I finished this book very quickly once I started reading -- and it competed with Michael Jecks and Edward Marston for my Kindle-attention.

Fantastic read!

I don’t know where to start….. first I grew up in this same generation, and close proximity so that gave me some interest. Everything about this story is right on point, I could so relate to everything. I smiled, I laughed and cried with this story, I just felt it all. But man, did this take a turn I didn’t expect. What an amazing story that will stick with me. Great writing, Jeb!

very cool, read!

As someone who lived during the years in this book and graduated just a couple years before the characters did, it hit a chord with me in more ways than one. Laughter, tears, and great memories went right along with this book. I’m definitely going to find out what other things Jeb Wright has written!

Very hard going

I can't say I enjoyed this very much .the book is basically about a group of teenagers doing drugs and going to a yes concert.just found it lacked any real story and could have been half as long .

Amazing book

I'm from Topeka and graduated in 1985, so very nostalgic. It is more than that, though. This is well written, entertaining and different. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
