Indigo: Law

Rate this book
One accident. One nurse. One choice.

For years Bridget has hidden who she is from her small hometown. A democratic lesbian wouldn’t very easily be elected Sheriff in the Bible Belt, and she doesn’t want to give up her dream of working in law enforcement.

When a freak accident with a combine throws her life into chaos and nearly kills her, she must learn to rely on friends and family she wasn’t sure she still had. With a desperate call to Eli, Bridget comes home, to a new world, a new life, and a new love. She is ready to come out and face the consequences.

This is the final installment of the Indigo B&B series.

Since book one I hoped that one of the stories in this series will be Bridget’s. Since book three I was secretly hoping Jerica will get her own story. And I didn’t get disappointed with this story.

Both are each other’s perfect match. The person they were always looking for. At least that’s how I definitely felt about Bridget because we get to know much more about her than about Jerica. One reason definitely is her role in book one (Eli‘s story), but also because we get to stay more with her during this book than we are with Jerica.

But for me this was perfect and fit to the way the story was built. Bridget almost losing her life at the beginning and then slowly coming back to life. Her finally coming to terms and standing up for herself. For me her journey was wonderful to witness. Jerica who works at the hospital, Bridget is brought to, watches out for her in the most wonderful way. She also doesn’t let Bridget from the hook and is as persistent as Bridget needs her to be.

Aside from their wonderful love story, I loved several other things. For example like in every Indigo book we get to spend time again with Eli. This time we also get to see more of Sarah and them being together. There is Buddy who has especially one scene in the story that made me laugh out loud. And last but not least Eli‘s mum Karen. She is the mum and friend you want to have in your life. I totally adored her and the role she played.

As far as I know this is the last book in this series and it couldn’t have been a better, more beautiful ending.

I received an advance reader copy from the author and voluntarily leaving a review.

I don’t know if I laughed more than I cried or vice versa

Eli’s and Bridget’s lightening up on the tension so that they can work on getting back to being friends is so refreshing. Especially, since they’d been together from such a young age. They talked smack with each other just as if they were back in high school… plus, lots of shoulder-nudging and winking and eye rolls.

Without getting into too much detail, there was a variety of serious topics, just like in the previous books of this series.
Physical trauma (my mother was in a similarly horrendous car accident years ago), total loss of control due to injuries (body, time, work, living arrangements), toxic parents, if/when/how to come out, emotional trauma from the accident in the form of nightmares, mention of domestic violence, etc.
The one that affected me the most was Bridget’s low self-esteem (addressed here and previously). I counted at least ten instances just in the first half of the book when she beats herself up: complete opposite of special, broken, wallow in her self-pity, cried over everything, couldn’t keep her stuff together, shame (3 times), hated being vulnerable, she shouldn’t need anyone’s comfort and support, weakling, because nothing good ever lasted for her, wuss, I’m so “messed” up…

Setting healthy boundaries so everyone feels safe is still a strong theme, perhaps even much more so in this book than in the previous ones. Examples are:
Bridget’s emotional environment in the hospital, how Eli asks permission to help her physically, the post-hospital living arrangements, professional relationship morphing into personal, both Eli’s and Bridget’s communication about being ex-girlfriends-back-to-best-friends since childhood with their new partners, visits from co-workers.
Bridget has a wonderful support system – people who actually *protect* her.

This time off from her hectic work life may be exactly what Bridget needed in order think about what she wants from life. Only then, can she begin coming to terms about having a healthy relationship in her small town.

If I ever need a wingman...I'd want Eli.

I still have #’s 2 & 4 to read and also to continue with the ‘Agent Morgan Stone’ & ‘Tales of the Undead and Depraved’ series.

I got a free copy of the book from Adrian J. Smith and have not read the others in this series yet.

What a beautiful story with Bridget and Jurica. Bridget nearly died in the accident with a combine and this is the beginning of her personal development of her. She learns to accept help, she learns to contact her best friend Eli, and stands up to her parents.

I like her progress and the way Eli and Bridget come back together as friends.

Indigo: Law (Indigo B&B Book 5)

Book 5 of 5: Indigo B&B

Jerica was taken with Bridget from the very beginning,  she wanted to get to know her. Bridget was struggling with a lot of different issues after the car accident. Her parents were not kind to her when they came to visit her in the hospital.

Bridget was afraid to entertain another relationship after the mistake she made with her best friend. Jerica was patient and kind. She would not give up on Bridget. She wanted to know her on a deeper level to have a love that they both could possibly heal from past mistakes and trauma.

Side note, Eli was very sweet and kind to Bridget while she was in recovery. They were both able to be honest and rediscover that relationship, talk about things from the past, the wrong mistakes they made in their relationship and how to move forward as friends.

Eli just wanted Bridget to be happy, to find peace, to feel whole , she wanted her to move past wanting her family's acceptance. She wanted her to understand she already had a family who would love her for the person she was.

I like how the author pulled a few of her books together and in this last book in the series.  I even noticed one of the characters from her previous book, OBlique,  it all came together nicely.

I feel like Bridget was able to connect with Sarah because they were struggling with some of the same issues.

Jerica was willing to help Bridget and help her see she could have a family love and children. Eli's mom was a wonderful addition to the storyline. Karen had a kind heart and loved Brigid and supported her while she was dealing with her parents, which in itself was not easy. Love can cover all the things we feel as people. I was glad to see everyone come together for Eli and Sarah's wedding.

It was nice to see everything come together for Bridget and Jerica. They were able to find the love and happiness we all dream of. It is true love when someone can see past your past and pain.

I highly recommend 5 stars for this book. I would like to thank the author for the arc.

Another great story in the Indigo series.

This time we are reacquainted with Bridget, Eli's ex-lover, who as Sheriff of a small community is so tightly in the closet that she cannot breathe. An unfortunate accident leaves her unable to fend for herself and as a matter of desperation, she calls on her one and only friend, Eli, for help, realizing that there is no one else she can turn to other than her bigoted, self-righteous family who would just damage her even more if given the chance. As a result, Bridget and Eli manage to rebuild their lifelong friendship and develop it further into a solid acceptance of plutonic love and appreciation for each other.

Jerica, a nurse who assisted when Bridget was taken to the ER after her accident, has developed an attraction to the closeted Bridget. Although Bridget has a lot of physical and emotional healing to do, it's the developing relationship that has her struggling the most, and of course, the realization that she is never going to be truly happy with anyone until she owns her sexuality and deals with her family's resistance and potential loss.

In parallel we see Eli and Sarah preparing for their wedding, and Bridget's reacquaintance with Eli's family, which also plays a huge part in her healing and acceptance of self.

This story is not only a lovely romance, it is a story about friendship of the deepest kind where love and support of each other is intrinsic.

It would be remiss to not sing the author's praises for this series. Her writing style, story development, impeccable research, and creation of such realistic and depth-filled characters are masterful. Thank you, Adrian J Smith it has been an absolute pleasure to read this series

did I like this? not particularly. will I be reading the rest of the series? yep.

Review breakdown:

Writing: it was ok, but you could make a drinking game out of how many times someone wrinkled their nose

Characters: I didn't care for Bridget, and I didn't learn enough about Jerica to make a decision one way or the other. I wasn't really rooting for them tbh. looking forward to reading Eli's story, though!

Plot: a stubborn, insecure woman (acab), injured in a serious accident is surrounded by people who love her. I dunno. this was heavily a story around rebuilding a broken friendship and learning how to receive love and help while also putting up boundaries and not hiding who you are, even when it's scary the romance seemed like the c plot.

What would make this an extra star read for me: I think the connection between leads would have been elevated with the first chapter being from Jerica's pov of her saving Bridget. I also felt like so many great opportunities for bonding occurred between Bridget and Eli that could have been Jerica.

Vibes: low stakes, considering the stakes

Indigo Law is the fifth book in the series. The book starts with Bridget waking up and icu after an accident at work. Most of the book is from Bridget's point of view. it has her dealing with coming to terms with her sexuality setting from bound the with her parents and dealing with the aftermath of almost dying. Bridget has a lot of self doubt and feelings of being unworthy of love. With the help of Jerica she realizes that she is worthy and that if you truly love someone that its easy to be brave.

I didn't like Bridget in the first book she just came off as an ass. Eli is a constant in this book as well and we get to see their friendship repaired and a new understanding of who Bridget is. The author reminds us how simple kindness can change everything. This was a really well rounded finish for the series brought everything full circle.

Adrian J. Smith has fast become one of my favorite authors and you won't be disappointed in Indigo Law.

I received an arc for my honest review.

This book makes me sad. Not the book, but what it represents. The end of the Indigo series. Adrian has created a wonderful ranch and area. Eli and her ranch pulls everything together. Bridget is the local sheriff. She is not out to her parents or town. Bridget is in a horrible wreck and needs someone to help. She calls on her ex girlfriend and friend Eli. Jerica is the nurse who was on duty when Bridget was brought in. She basically saved Bridget's life. They connect even though Bridget was completely out of it. And Jerica keeps coming for Bridget. Gets her to open up and live. Adrian has a wonderful writing style. It keeps me entertained and just pulls me along. She puts such feeling in to her characters. That is why I hate to see it end. But I can always go back and enjoy it again. I did receive an ARC but these are my own views.

This latest episode about indigo B and B involves the sheriff Bridget and the owner of indigo Eli. Bridget wakes up from a horrible accident by her brother who was drunk. Her recovery is a long process and she hast to take time off from being the sheriff. Bridgets parents are very controlling till Bridget decides to ask Eli if she can stay with her at the indigo. I found a plat very good where Bridget has to find her self and find a way to finally come out to everybody. She gets involved with Jerrica at the hospital and the story continues from there. I found the characters very good and the writing was exceptional. I really got involved in the book and I found a really good story. I received this book as an ARC and my review is unbiased and honest. I recommend this book for all who like romance and forgiveness.

When I found out this was the last in the series, I nearly cried!
I love this series so much and will be so sad to say goodbye to Eli and the others.

This book tells the story of Bridget, the sheriff recovering from a bad accident, and Jerica, a nurse at the hospital. I really enjoyed reading the journey these two characters embark on and loved the way the author handled Bridget's coming out.

As always, my attention was captivated by the back stories of the characters and how these affected them going forward and into the relationship they develop. And as always, Eli is the guiding light, even in the tough situation.

Found family is such a strong theme in this book and made me cry a few tears with the acceptance Bridget gets from her found family.

Such an fantastic read and I'm sorry we won't get to read anymore in this series!

Stars: 5 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Narrator: Quinn Riley
Series: Indigo B&B Book 5
Steam Level: Steamy

I read this for the 2025 Sapphic Book Bingo Micro-Tropes reading challenge for the prompt Comforting After a Nightmare.

CW: life threatening injury leading to a hospital stay, homophobia

Oh thank goodness Bridget gets a book. I had mixed feelings about her in book one but with time and insight into her head, she really redeemed herself and became such a delightful character.

Quick Thoughts:
- One of the big issues that is done wonderfully is the prejudices of Bridget’s family. The best part about this is that it’s not all rainbows and sunshine in the end with them
- This is basically an instant-love story that is so well done that I didn’t even realize it until I started writing my review
- We only get a few chapters from Jerica’s POV, around 90% of the book is from Bridget’s POV which is needed since she was the antagonist in book one
- Loved watching Eli and Bridget reconnect. Seeing that was as wonderful as watching Jerica and Bridget fall in love
- No third act break up!
- I really enjoyed coming into the story at the point that Bridget is fed up with hiding herself so we get the coming out angst but very little of the hiding herself angst
- Something that is usually glossed over in most Small Town setting books is the casual racism of some of the people in the town. It is noted here but it isn’t really shown much. I would have liked a little deeper dive into that but it wouldn’t fit the the lighter narrative of this book
- Quinn Riley is just fantastic. I’m so glad I have a bunch more books of hers to listen to

Overall I loved this book. Such a sweet ending to an emotional roller coaster of a series. So many great characters and connections, all narrated by the amazing Quinn Riley. This series really shows the growth of Adrian J. Smith as a writer and it previews the other great books I have to look forward to this year as I work through her catalog.

OH! It's that Bridget! That's pretty much what I said at the end of chapter 1. I have really enjoyed this Indigo Series. To truly this book, I recommend reading Indigo: Blues before or after this book. Indigo: Three is also a great book to read before or after this. I'm prepared to reread this whole series. It's sometimes hard to get past how the attraction grows and rushes throughout the book. However, I love how the author builds a main character like Jherica to see just the person behind Bridget's current challenges. It's fun and hot to watch. For me, the coming up story worked me up a bit. The author just did an amazing job of building a strong story around it. The teasing and history between Bridget and Eli's life and family really compliments and makes the book as well.

The fifth and final book in this series definitely saw it going out with a bang.
Bridget has an argument with a combine that the combine wins and has to fight back from near death to regain herself, her life and her independence.
Eli comes to help and the two finally talk about their past and healing occurs here too.
Bridget comes out of the closet finally but her parents are far from supportive.
Luckily she has a budding new relationship with Jerica to provide her with affection and finally sees that family isn’t always blood. A great ending to the series.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is a story of self discovery and redemption after a near death experience, with the main character went through months of painful physical and mental challenges to finally became the better version of herself and came to term of her sexual identity. It is a well written story with romantic love and life long friendship, which I really wish I can have in my real life. I am deeply moved by Eli, the best friend and ex girlfriend of the main character Bridge, when Bridge had nobody to turn to, she offered her home and devoted her time and energy to take care of Bridge, encourage her every step of the way to the full recovery. Such a great book and highly recommend.

Talk about a perfect book. This is one of them. The series has been awesome, but i think Indigo:Law is the best one yet.

Bridget getting into an almost fatal accident turns out not so bad. I love how the story progresses and how AJS brings in a lot of stuff but without diluting the original story. The way Bridget and Jerica's attraction grows and not forgetting Elijah who always made me laugh, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this book. Its a worthy read.

Good book

Bridget is the Sheriff of the town but a bad accident has her in the ER the the ICU for awhile. She can't remember the incident but what people tell her. Jerica is the nurse who helped keep Bridget alive while she was unconscious. Jerica just knew that she wanted to be with Bridget, the thing was Bridget isn't out to anyone except Eli and her family. A beautiful story of healing wounds and friendship. Plus dealing with coming out is always a hard thing to do but when you love someone it's not so bad.

All the books in this series are set in Kansas. Not the first place I would look for queer women but they make it work. This one is particularly satisfying as Bridget the character with the most internalized homophobia is finally forced to take time off as a result of a bizarre accident. That coupled with meeting a woman who really cares about her in a forthright way, causes her to re-evaluate her life.

I love that the series ends with Eli and Sarah’s wedding. So epic. I liked that Bridge and Eli were able to find their friendship again, and I love Karen and her support of all things. Jerica and Bridge were fun to read about especially with all of Eli’s meddling.

There’s something about the writing that just pulled me right in, and before I knew it, I finished the book. It was exactly what I needed to read.

This final Indigo book features Bridget, with a lot of Eli in the mix as well. While this is Bridget’s book. I appreciated Eli having such a large part because the two friends were able to reconcile after events mentioned in previous books. The catalyst is a horrendous accident that left Bridget in the hospital with lots of healing ahead of her. One of her nurses is Jerica who was one of the few people who could calm Eli when she was hurting.

The novel takes us through Bridget’s recovery, coming to terms with Eli, and with her own family, and the kind of life she could have, while, most importantly, getting to know Jerica. We really get to know, feel, and understand how devastating a horrible accident can be, whether it's the physical toll or the emotional one. The lives of the women, especially Bridget, are not without ups and downs, but fortunately this book ends the series on the perfect note.

Another fantastic book in this series just such a shame it is the last one. The whole series has been so varied yet somehow comes together as a whole because of Eli and her B&B. Probably the best complete series I have ever read. It touches on so many different issues, each can be read as a stand alone or for a full picture it is better to read them all in order.
This book goes on a journey of self discovery with Bridgett. She has many issues to work through and is forced to take the time to really look at her life after a terrible accident. Adrian does a great job of not glossing over how long it can really take to recover from serious injuries and weaves the whole healing process into the story. I must admit that I did not really feel the love between the main characters but even that did not detract from my enjoyment of this book. I would highly recommend the whole series to anyone interested.

Adrian J. Smith did an incredible job with this book. I was gripped from the first page where I was able to visualize every aspect of Bridget awakening in the hospital room broken and battered, her feelings, and emotions were front and center and I was riveted.

Jerica’s ability to challenge and comfort Bridget was so important to both characters’ arcs. Jerica with the help of Eli and her family, helped Bridget see that she was, in fact, loveable despite thirty years of her parents making her feel the opposite. The connection between Jerica and Bridget was there front and center and their relationship development while bumpy was executed perfectly.

This was a really great ending to a fantastic series!

First, I want to say that I really enjoyed reading the entire Indigo Series. I do believe that Bridget and Jerica's love story is my favorite. Getting to revisit Eli and Sarah's story was like a bonus in what was already a great book.  A must read that won't disappoint. Oh yea, the visit from Buddy was hilarious! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
