Rate this book
The leaves have changed color, pumpkins line the front steps of the old Victorians, the smell of wood-burning stoves permeate the air, and the nights are cooler and crisper. It's autumn in Cape May.
Margaret and Dave decide last-minute to go on an extended vacation in their hometown of Cape May at the Black Horse Inn, which ends up being a spooky experience they weren't prepared for.
Liz is up to her elbows in home DIY projects, and is blindsided when she discovers Greg has been meeting up with an unknown woman.
Donna undergoes big changes-her first day as a substitute teacher ends up being more difficult than she'd imagined, and she contends with anxiously awaiting the news of the rental application she submitted for her dream home.
While Harper and Abby stay with their grandparents, Judy and Bob realize they have to enforce tough love when the girls don't want to listen or follow rules.
Sarah takes Chris's son, Sam, out for one-on-one bonding time, and when he takes off with his friends, she discovers that something bigger might be going on.
In Book 8 of the Cape May Series , feel the wonderful ghostly spookiness of the infamously haunted shore town and stay for the surprise ending that will surely touch your heart.

Memorable Quotes: They walked into the honey shop, and Margaret was immediately drawn to some seasonal honey varieties. “Oh, wow. They have Pumpkin Blossom Honey,” Margaret said as she held it up for Dave to see. “It says it has notes of caramel and toffee.” Dave nodded. “Let’s get it. I bet that would be good in some hot tea this autumn.” Margaret smiled, and reached over to grab a basket in the corner, then plopped in the pumpkin honey. “Growing up, some family friends of ours had a honey farm. Do you know how something like pumpkin blossom honey is made?” Dave asked as he browsed around the store. Margaret shrugged. “Well, not really. How?” Dave pointed to a little pumpkin decoration amidst the honeys. “It’s nectar collected from bees who pollinated the big yellow blossoms on pumpkin plants. The flavor and color changes by what kind of plant blossom they pollinate. Fascinating, isn’t it?” Margaret nodded. “That’s crazy. I never knew that. How do they know what the bee pollinated, though?” Dave scratched his head. “From what I remember, the honeybee pollinates a two- to three-mile radius from their hive. So, when you’re making a variety of honey, like pumpkin blossom, you place the hive in a spot where there’s an abundance of a specific flowering crop in that radius. In this case, it was pumpkin crops.” Margaret’s mouth opened. “What an interesting piece of information that I never knew.” Dave smiled and his eyes widened as he reached up to grab something called Winter White Honey. He handed the jar to Margaret. “Says it tastes like snowflakes on your tongue. Maybe we need a jar of honey for every season?” Margaret laughed. “I think these two are enough for now. We’ll come back again. I can’t wait for the strawberry honey when strawberries are back in season next year. It’s divine.”

Margaret put two pieces of pumpkin cream-cheese-stuffed French toast onto her plate while Dave scooped some of the fluffy egg casserole onto his dish and topped it off with four large pieces of praline bacon.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️🍏🍎🚸👩‍🏫🍯🛎👻

My thoughts: 🔖30 of 121 CHAPTER FOUR - It's too late for ghost stories. Goodnight.
🔖58 CHAPTER SEVEN - I can't believe girl-mom Judy let her granddaughters get to her husband when she was so good with her grandsons. I wasn't a fan of the ghostly storyline or the relationship woes, but I get some stories need turmoil for there to be a story. I didn’t understand why they hired 3 people to replace 3 people who were on vacation for a few weeks in the first place, so that storyline was an unnecessary hot mess for me.

I'm so glad these family dogs finally have names. This was a bit rocky for me, but the final chapters almost got it a ½ star, overall it was still just better than okay for me so I kept the 3. I wasn't excited about Book 9 based on the cover and Book 3, but now I am excited about it. I hope it's more than the clichéd renovation story with a town play or movie night to justify the space.

Recommend to others: Yes, this series is better as a palate cleanser, but it's good on it's own as well.

Love this series - if you like good story line with romance, over coming obstacles of daily life challenges with beach town settings this is a series for you! If you want a steamy romance, page turning mystery this isn't it!

Many memories of Cape May

I love the story, all the series as a matter of fact. I only wish that whoever edits the books be mire diligent. There are too many obvious mistakes, especially in this book number 8

It was not as well developed regarding the haunted inn theme. There were some loose storylines that never quite gelled, but I did like the not so surprising surprise at the end.

I’m loving all the characters in the book as the series progresses. How each book picks up where the previous one ended.
