I had seen this book recommended on TikTok and as a plus size female decided to give it a go.
Whilst it was an enjoyable read and touched some sensitive subjects such as weight issues, self confidence, bullying etc I felt like some of the situations were rushed through and had very little substance which almost downplayed the severity of the issues.
The main characters were likeable but also very childish and that’s what put me off about this book. The way they dealt with emotions such as running away or ignoring texts etc and then the constant use of the word ‘baby’ it just didn’t seem believable and it’s based on a true story.
Another issue I had is that the dual pov would repeat sections so that they could then add on the next persons pov. This felt unnecessary to me and just a way to up the word count. I didn’t need a repeat of what had just happened a paragraph ago.
So whilst this book was enjoyable and has potential it is not one I would reach for again unfortunately.
It’s refreshing and motivational. This is not only Alexis' journey to finding the love of her life, but it’s also her inner journey to realize she deserved to be loved and cared for, and she has to make peace with her appearance and inner fears to live a brighter future she dreamed of.
Alexis' inner fight, her vulnerability and her insecurities preventing her share true self with the world are remarkable. Those sincere parts help the readers to connect with the protagonist and understand her pain, her struggle and her need for approval.
I loved the genuine chemistry between Alexis and Chris, Tia and Alexis' friendship, and the supporting characters. Unputdownable read. The author handled so many different aspects of this book amazingly well. The chapters are brief and easy to read. Captivating and heart-warming plot with surprises and shocks.
The author has portrayed each and every character with the utmost significance of their own and every one of them has done justice to their respective roles throughout the story and knitted together. Both sides of the story are told to make the readers understand the feelings and emotions that the protagonists go through. Cute moments in the book make you go Awww…
Never let what others say bother you, especially if it doesn’t bother you.
First DNF of the year lol I'm not rating the book because i didn't finish, but here is my thought about the book and what made me DNF it. 1. The book has a problem with setting characters and places, there was hardly some definition about the place where they were, how people looks like and how things happened. Everything seemed very abrupt and stitched together. 2. This one is personal, but i refuse to read books with the plot when plus size rep where the only thing the person can think about the whole books is how she hate herself. I'm fat, ok? by my count I am almost twice the size of this character, I don't have to be remembered how people find my body disgusting. Again, i didn't finish the book and probably she got better, but the whole "he teaches me how to love myself" seeing worse. 3. The fact that is dual POV and the WHOLE scene repeat on each other POV was a such turn of. Why would i want to read the same scene twice? it doesn't make sense.
I had high hopes for this book. As I love the plus size trope but I’m having finding it hard to write a review.
I enjoyed the storyline/plot but there was an over description of scenes and events in the book.
There were repeats of previous scenes and paragraphs (another character retelling a scene that had just been described) I don’t know what the author was trying to achieve with this.
Are there really people like Alexis in real life? I think the author did a disservice to Alexis with the way she portrayed her. For me, she did not develop fully as a character.
As I said earlier, it is really hard to find something else to write about this book. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
I feel like there is so much potential for this book. The story line and everything was great. However the one thing I did not like was that there would be back to back chapters of the exact same dialogue from different POVs. So one chapter would have the MMCs POV, and then the next chapter would be the exact same wording used from the previous chapter just made to see like it was from the FMCs POV. Unfortunately I ended up having to DNF the book at 41%. Like I said, the story line and the characters were great. I just couldn't get past the repeating chapters.
loved the plot, especially how Alexis' insecurities were handled it was realistic and not rushed as is not easy to overcome trauma and trust issues. we love obsessive and respectful MC. Idk if Tia and Trey have their own book I was interested in their relationship. Great book ❤️❤️
Unfortunately I was unable to make it past chapter one . In the first paragraph it mentions the main character struggling with losing weight when her waist is only 30". 30"!! Talk about unhealthy ideas about what overweight really is. I immediately put the book down after that
The storyline was fantastic. I love how it unfolded and I really liked the characters. The writing was a little underwhelming and it needs better editing. Part of the writing being underwhelming could be due to the poor editing in places. I think the author had a brilliant idea, shows a lot of promise, and I think better editing will make a big difference.
After reading the review under this book I was ready for an emotional rollercoaster and I was not disappointed. The plot, the chemistry, the smutt- it all worked together. There was never a dull moment and I would encourage you to read this book now. Love! Love! Love it!
I loved the story line an I could definitely relate to lexy so much I saw a lot of myself and loved ones in her which made it to easy to read an picture this love story and Chris was a dream come true
I adored this book, the writing style, the storyline and the characters! The character development and emotion within this book is amazing. Highly recommend!
I absolutely love this book. Alexis was so relatable and Chris was the supportive and charming boyfriend that she needed to realize she didn't need to prioritize her looks.
