Shore Thing #4

Navigating Noah

Rate this book
Noah Hathaway

The saying 'livin' the dream' is usually said with sarcasm, but I truly am living my dream in Coral Pointe Inlet with my four best friends. Still, as I watch three of them fall in love, my heart aches a little with longing. It doesn't help when Hunter, a man I spent an incredible weekend with, comes back to Coral Pointe--not alone, I might add. Regardless, I find myself drifting toward the man. His life has shifted directions, so why am I still hoping his internal compass will lead him to me?

Hunter Reed

Work hard, play harder. I've lived by that motto for years--until now. My life has changed drastically since the last time I was in Coral Pointe. Thankfully, one thing has stayed exactly the Noah Hathaway, the kind, beautiful man whose heart beats for the people he loves. Navigating through this new reality isn't easy, but Noah, with his big heart, is determined to make sure I don't drown. I've never been a man looking for forever, but damned if I don't find myself wanting Noah to throw me that life preserver.

This title can be read as a standalone. If you'd like to truly dive into the shenanigans between these five best friends, it's suggested the books be read in order from the start of the series.

I've loved every one of the books in this series so far but I have to admit, this one's definitely my favourite so far.

Noah is just a gentle giant, a genuinely kind and caring guy who's dealt with some serious losses with grace and a positive attitude.

His brief weekend-long fling with Aiden's best friend Hunter left him aching for more and when he finds out he's on his way back from New York but not by himself, Noah offers to go pick him up, even though he's heartbroken at the thought.

What he finds on arrival is not what he expected,

Jaclyn then treats the reader to a beautiful romance wherein Hunter learns just what his heart has been missing with his determination to keep it locked up.

Meanwhile, Noah also realises that wanting to be wanted doesn't always mean having to be the one doing the caring.

Now there's just Burke to go and given the hints and suggestions we've had in the other books, it's going to be an all guns blazing, frenemies feeling explosion of UST between him and Jared and I am so on board, flags flying high, for it!

Read this series if you want a lovely, low angsty, emotionally connected bunch of characters who genuinely love each other and their community packed with heat and all the feels.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Review is for the Shore Thing series, books 1 - 4:

I read Noah's book first, not realizing it was the fourth in a series. I liked it well enough that I went back and read the first three books in order (binge read all four books in a week).

Overall, this series gets 3.5 ~ 4 stars.

Setting: small beach town in Florida named Coral Pointe.

MCs: four 30-something best friends who met in college (Cole, Levi, Ford, Noah, and Burke) and their respective partners (thus far: Aiden, Sage, Abe, and Hunter, but we all know Jared is the one for Burke).

Secondary characters: vary by book, but include Cole's loving but gossipy mom; Miss Marjorie, the kindly matriarch who works front desk at the inn; Teresa, who owns the town bakery and serves as a sort of fawning fan for the men and their SOs; Aiden's stubborn grandpa; Ford's mom and sister Gabby.

Steam: moderate (3.5/5)

Themes: beach life, low angst, second chances, friends to lovers, HEAs all around (I'm anticipating pseudo enemies to lovers when Burke and Jared get their story).

My favorite book thus far is Convincing Cole (noteworthy: Aiden's bi-awakening and the way Cole's self-esteemed blossomed with Aiden by his side), followed closely by:

Landing Levi (sassy Sage and oblivious Levi are too cute; "You've been Saged!") and

Navigating Noah (there are many "taking care of baby" scenes in this book, since Hunter finds out he sired a kid with a one-night stand, but the romance doesn't get buried, and Noah falls for the man AND the baby).

My least favorite is Flustering Ford, which isn't to say I disliked it, but Abe and Ford's relationship wasn't as well developed as the others, and Abe's reasons for ghosting Ford after high school were weak at best.

Again, a step-up from the previous books, even though it covers a trope I’m usually not eager on.

What trope, you ask? Well, as I’m marking this review as “containing spoilers”, there’s no reason to keep it from you.

We already know that Hunter, the silver fox Noah hooked up with in Ford’s book, is coming back to Coral Point, bringing “someone” with him. Turns out (and surprising everyone there, but not a single reader 😂) that said someone is a baby he unknowingly fathered, whose mother died suddenly.

Hear me out. I usually love children in real life, I even have two of my own who’re my whole world. But kids in romances tend to be little wise-asses, or super fluffy, easy to handle babies. And with all my motherly love: that’s not it. There’s a lot of fine print that’s usually left out - like the fact that not everyone loves their babies right away. Or that they tend to cry in the middle of the night, and you feel helpless and like a bad parent because you don’t know why.

But then there’s that first smile. The way they look at you like you’re their whole world (spoiler: you are). The sometimes overwhelming unconditional love that you feel. The way you happily rearrange your world around them.

And that was done beautifully here. If we’re honest, you have 2 different love stories: one between Hunter and Noah, the “nurturer” in our group of friends this series is about.

And one between Hunter und his son.

Both are beautifully done, and dare I say so: realistically.

In top of that, we have -again- the friend group that plays a role in every book.

So I guess this is my first 5 star rating in this series - and off I go to the final book about Burke and Jared, who very obviously had something happen in that one night they spent together during the hurricane 🔥🔥🔥

Did I like it? Yes. The same as I liked all the previous books in this series but the difference with this one and I’m sure it’s the cynic in me but it was way too convenient for Hunter to have such a change in his view of a relationship when he needed someone after such a life altering event and Noah was the perfect candidate. A solid 3.5⭐️

MM Romance
Weekend Fling To Forever
5 Stars ⭐️

I absolutely love this series even though I’ve never rated a book over 4 stars until now. This series follows the lives of 5 men who run a business called “Shore Thing” in Coral Pointe Florida. They are just feel good books, and I love the group dynamic along with the found family aspect. They just work for me and all of the characters are lovable in their own ways. This book is 5 stars because of the actual couple and their love story but also the other couples made this book sing. Without them, I wouldn’t be so enamored with this series so I recommend reading them in order. The blurb doesn’t mention a key part of this book so this review will be kept intentionally vague even though it happens in the second chapter.

I absolutely adored this book. Noah is the nurturer of the friend group and while I liked him in past books, I didn’t know what to expect going into this. He’s there to help everyone and is a genuinely nice guy but there was way more to Noah than what’s at surface level. Noah and Hunter met in the last book when Hunter was visiting his best friend Aiden last spring and they hit it off immediately. They had a weekend fling and Hunter returned back to New York. A few months later, at the end of book 3, we learn Hunter is having a rough time and planning to come back to Coral Pointe for a few months until things get under control. Unfortunately for Noah, he’s not coming alone.

I can’t get into who Hunter is bringing without spoiling this but it’s a trope I’m usually not a fan of and yet I absolutely adored this book. It’s obvious Noah & Hunter still have feelings for each other but it’s complicated now and so they become really good friends. I loved the way they became close and I really believed in them and the bond they had. Hunter had always been a bit of a player back in New York but falls hard for Noah and I just loved it. There’s tons of pining and need between the men because not only is the situation a bit hard but there’s an end date. I loved the build up though and the want and the fact it wasn’t insta-everything and I actually had to wait until 30% for anything to even become physical. My favorite part, I can’t talk about because spoilers, but that part is what made this book even more special. I just loved it.

Then there’s all the secondary characters who just made this even better. Sage & Levi have a big role in this that made me swoon. I’ve definitely been “Saged” 😂😂 And then, Jared & Burke!!! I cannot wait until the next book because throughout this entire series, Jared & Burke have been one upping each other and live to get under each other’s skin and every book I feel the tension more and more. Something happens in this one that makes me so so curious for their book! I hope it overlaps this timeline because I am so here for it.

Oh and Noah loving one of my favorite old movies? I haven’t seen it in years and just the theme song makes me cry 😭 “Somewhere In Time” was introduced to me when I was 19 years old by this guy who under any other circumstances I would have dated in a hot second but I had just gotten dumped by my first love and I wasn’t ready. We became really good friends and he used to play the theme song on the piano when I came over. Unfortunately, Brent died unexpectedly at age 27 and I’ve never been able to watch that movie again because it’s a sad movie anyway and then it’s just too hard but Noah loving it and Hunter watching it with him even though it’s not his kind of movie? 💗💗💗

Note: There’s 2 review pages for this book and I dont know which one to do because most of the reviews are on the one that is part of the whole series. But this is the one connected to kindle is and where my highlights live. Can two pages be combined?

Sweet, sweet Noah. You are the loveliest, kindest, most caring guy ever! You deserve to be wrapped up in a burrito blanket, kept safe, and adored. No joke, I’ve spent half the book crying because he is so caring and he puts everyone before himself, all the while surrounded by his friends who have fallen in love, which is what he wants the most. Gah, Noah, I love you.

Also, I’m not one who experiences baby fever, but damn, there is something about a man who’s floundering with being a single father, and then watching him come into the role and embrace it. Especially one who previously only believed in living commitment-free. So lovely.

These two had previously had a fling when Hunter had come to visit his best friend Aiden. A weekend Noah hasn’t been able to forget. When Hunter arrives with a baby, Noah can’t help but step up and help out even if it means getting way too attached and most likely having his heart shattered, knowing Hunter will eventually return to New York. It’s who he is, he’s a carer.

What ensues is the sweetest romance that will melt your heart. No lies, you will swoon.

Shore Things is one of my most favourites series of BFFs who are equal parts loyal and sweet, as they are hilarious. With only Burke left to find love, I’m hoping they have some other friends or employees who need some romance because I am far from ready to give these guys up!

This was cute. Really cute.

I think this one is tied with book one (Cole & Aiden) for favorite couple so far in this series. This one does get an extra half star simply for Logan. This is a case where the baby/single dad trope really worked for me 👌 Seeing Hunter's personal journey and watching him fall in love with his son was just so sweet ♥

As always I love the group of guys and I'm really excited to get to Burke & Jared's story next (so much sexual tensions *phew*).

I was very fortunate to receive and read an advanced copy of Navigating Noah. I thought let me keep a pen and paper handy so I could also send the author any typos or errors that weren’t caught before being released to the ARC readers. This is very well edited, so thank you Ms. Quinn for that! As far as my review, I took a few days to savor this one…but I was also a little leery because that darn Noah, be still my heart…I didn’t want to read if he got hurt! I won’t say if he does or not because that ruins the angst over whether or not he will. I was extremely pleased how it all unfolded. I don’t want to put in any spoilers, but this was a fantastic read. Full of laughs and love. I love this group of men! My only nay is the use of the phrase “ya know”. It just always feels out of place with the other text it usually follows. Outside of that, five stars!!!

Gorgeous cover! Loved Noah and Hunter’s story! Can’t wait for Jared and Burke!

After finishing this book, first thing i did was have a good cry because what this book made me do was miss my friends who are all over the world and we don't see each other as much as we (probably) should. The way this group of friends sticks together through good and bad is astonishing.

When Hunter comes back and Noah sends out his "bat signal" for help, everyone drops everything and comes to him to show support. The slow build up from friends to lovers between Hunter and Noah was a beautiful journey between two people who were meant to be. The was Hunter threw himself in his new role in life was a very realistic approach to it. It filled my heart with so much joy to see him flourish in his new role and not to mention how he became aware how much Noah means to him.

Now i don't have enough words to write how much i love Noah. He is mentioned as the heart of this group and it was 100% spot on. He gives and gives but takes little back. When he realized his feelings for Hunter are of the forever kind, he tried to step back and it was so beautiful to watch Hunter doing everything in his power to prevent that from happening. Together they make (probably) the most sense in this entire group and the HEA was icing on the cake from me.

Now if you're anything like me you're dying to see how Burke and his fisherboy aka Jared set the whole place on fire next!!!

Sand

I need alllll the Noah Time, and some Legs of my own. But only if they come with Hunter and all the amazing swoony love these two have. “‘But you, Noah… You fill in all those empty spaces with your colorful sand, making us even stronger than we were before.’” Gah, this series is the most, and I can’t even talk about the best part of the book; however, know that if you’re looking for a fun, romantic, beachin’ read: this is the book and series for you. I love the friendships, the family, and the love that keeps growing with each one. Fantastic and it’ll have you sailing into love.

This was a nice, sweet read that brings all my favorite boys together. What I absolutely love about this series is the found family and friendship between the MCs. This was Noah’s book in finding his HEA and although I liked him and Hunter together and the “plus one” Hunter was bringing wasn’t at all a shock, I wanted more development of their relationship. Maybe even a prologue of their weekend spent together. If I would have gotten that, I think I would have been more invested and okay with what we got.

And what we got was good it just didn’t cause any kind of ache for these two to figure it out and be together. And I need that—especially if the story is going have the two MCs falling for each other fast.

Did I enjoy this? Yes, but most of it stemmed from. When all the guys were together or the Burke and Jared moments we get (I cannot wait for their book!!). This one wasn’t my favorite, but if you like this series and you want a cute, sweet read, this will be a win for a lot of people.

Oh Noah, how I adored you. This was my favourite of the series so far. Noah, who always took care of everyone else fell so hard and fast. Hunter was a bit more oblivious, but I could forgive him because of his adjustment to parenthood. The feeling of family among the band of friends was also very strong here and I loved it. The bat signal made me tear up a bit. Now Burke and Jared are the only ones left and their story was set up nicely here (as well as in the previous books). I look forward to reading their book, but I'll also be sad to see this series come to an end.

An ocean of love and lots of used diapers

Biblical Noah has a swim in with a big fish in a huge ocean. It changed his life. He spent the rest of it helping others.

Coral Pointe Noah always tried to help everyone, but especially those close to him. He had grown up almost without family, but he kept fishing for the love of family and friends.

He was able to build great friendships with his college friends, but building family was harder while trying to survive all of life's challenges. But he tried to protect himself from hurt, causing him to delay recognition of love which always has a hurt component embedded with it. When Hurricane Danny finally washes away the mental and emotional blocks to joining Hunter and Logan in a living family, he is caught by Logan's inescapable trust and love plus Hunter's promise of permanent living and protective family.

I had a good time with this one. My stress and anxiety have been through the roof, so this lovely low angst series has been hitting the spot. It's simple. It's fun. It's easy to read. Most importantly, it's just downright enjoyable. This book sees Noah have his moment. He's someone with the biggest heart, who gives so much and has lost even more. In comes Hunter with his life taking a 180, and he wants to give Noah something for a change. It's sweet and spicy. You will have a great time at Coral Pointe and all their shenanigans.

Navigating Noah is a great addition to the Shore Thing series. I have been eagerly awaiting Noah's story.
This book has so much heart in it! Noah and Hunter have spent time together in the past. When Hunter shows up again he is not alone. Noah, with his big heart, wants to help in any way he can.
The chemistry and connection between these guys jumps off the page.
Get ready for all the heat, sweetness, humor and found family you could wish for.
I am loving this series!

Navigating Noah is the 4th book in the Shore Thing Series and focuses on Noah, who puts everyone else before himself, and Hunter, Aiden’s friend, and Noah’s 3-night stand. When Hunter calls Aiden to tell him that he’s coming back to Coral Pointe, this time for a few months, Noah is forced to face the fact that he is still attracted to his no-strings-attached hookup. This fact might be a moot point because Hunter isn’t coming alone.

Noah is the second last of the Shore Thing boys to be without a significant other. He considers his best friends to be his family and loves his job as a tour operator, Coral Pointe, and love itself. Hunter is of the Work Hard/Play Harder mentality. Well, he was, until a lawyer lets him know that he now has a responsibility that he was definitely not expecting. A responsibility like this goes against the way Hunter lives, his desire to have no significant attachments and his freedom.

Noah was raised by his grandmother, his parents having died in a helicopter tour while on their delayed honeymoon when he was 2 years old. Hunter was raised by nannies as his parents are cold people who had no use for a child aside from carrying on the family name. Their significantly different upbringings make the way they look at relationships land on completely different ends of the love spectrum.

Can our sweet, giving Noah and struggling single father Hunter find a way to navigate love, parenthood, and distance when they both want the same thing and don’t know how to ask? This bisexual, found family, kinda one-night stand story will give you all the feels. Navigating Noah is high heat, no cheating and an HEA that will make even the hardest of hearts happy.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest.

I love Jaclyn Quinn, she has a way of writing stories that just bring out all of your emotions. They have you weeping, laughing, screaming, ooohing and aaawing, and falling in love with the characters. But not just the main characters but also the secondary characters that you just need their story. And I'm so happy to finally be reading Noah's story (introduced in Convincing Cole - 1st book of the series. Recommend to read all of the books to fully appreciate this book but not needed. Plus every book is worth reading, you won't regret it 😁❤️)
Noah, my sweet vulnerable Noah....he had my heart weeping for him. I just wanted to hug and shower him with love. Even though he knew involving himself with Hunter would lead to heartache, it didn't stop him from stepping in to help and be there for Hunter, cherishing every moment together. His big heart is so full of love that he just can't see anyone in trouble without helping.
Hunter received the shock of his life and a present he wasn't sure of, but loved with his whole heart. This lead him back to the amazing group of friends he met at Coral Pointe and to Noah, big hearted and sexy Noah. Loved that it was not just all easy peasy, but we got to see Hunter's internal struggle and self doubt while he tried to readjust to his new life.
Together...wowsers ...super hot and sexy. But also so many sweet emotional moments. A relationship blossoming with each caring touch, tender moment, and word of encouragement. Noah and Hunter were exactly what each of their souls needed. What a perfect addition to the Shore Thing series.
And now I really need Burke and Jared's story.. their relationship was always intriguing but now more than ever. Ms. Quinn how dare you leave me in this suspense!!

Noah is a sweetheart who’s kind heart is matched with a clear perspective and a strong will. He knows what he wants and can stand up for himself, even as his default setting is to care for others. Hunter is harder on himself than he needs to be and, despite overwhelming circumstances, adapting as best he can. They both make for likable protagonists, and it’s easy to see how they work together. That said, their romance, while poignant, didn’t always feel like the focus of this story. Hunter’s feelings about unexpected parenthood and his relationship with his baby son form a huge part of this book, and especially early on, the romance between Hunter and Noah takes a back seat to his voyage of discovery that parenthood is magical and wonderful rather than the burden he first felt it to be. It’s sweet to see the relationship between Hunter and his son develop, although it does feel a bit heavy handed at times (Hunter needs to learn that parenthood is the best thing ever, apparently, and Noah and friends are happy to be fonts of wisdom on the associated joy at every opportunity despite having no kids of their own). Consequently, there’s a fair amount of space devoted to Hunter learning to care for his child and Hunter spends a lot of time making observations like “how had I never known how infectious a baby’s laughter was” which…is sweet, to be sure, and if that’s your jam, there’s plenty of it to be found here. Overall, an enjoyable story.

A FOREVER HOOK-UP....

I absolutely love these men and I am so sorry that I missed the previous books to review, however I have placed them on my KU TBR to read more behind Noah's four friends journeys to love!

Noah Hathaway is an absolute sweetheart and everybody who comes into contact with this tall drink of water with a ray of sunshine be it adults or babies, cannot help but fall for his selfless charm!

That is what happens to Hunter Reed although he only believes in one-nighters and hook-ups and his business in New York, that all changes when he sets his eyes on Noah again after a couple of months since their week-end hook-up and they start to get to know each other better first as friends and then as lovers but Hunter is back for three months only...

"I've been thinking about New York a lot"-he flinched while I exhaled, long and slow-but every time I do, it feels like something is missing."
"You, Noah."

I laughed and I cried with these characters, the two main and the supportive friends who tried their utmost best to open their eyes to what is happening.... and then Hurricane Danny hits Coral Pointe...

Oh this book was just swoon worthy and steamy not to mention funny and of course sad with every chapter to their journey and I look forward to so much more!

I voluntarily received an ARC from Gay Romance Reviews for an honest and just review!

I have loved all of the Shore Thing books thus far, and I think Navigating Noah is among my favorites. I didn't know what to expect when we met Hunter during the last book, when we got reference to Noah spending a weekend with him, knowing that he would be the one that came back for Noah's book. I didn't get a good feel for him there.

I did, however, get a great feel for him here. And an amazing feel for Noah as a character as well, and the two of them were perfectly matched. Noah was a caregiver who often forgot that he, too, required care. Hunter was a man with the motto work hard, play harder - until life made him reconsider his priorities.

The two men played off of one another really well. They had immediate and immense chemistry and I really feel like they brought the best out of one another. They were very understanding of each other's shortcomings and encouraged each other to be the best. However, they completely LACKED in communication when it came to what they both actually wanted, operating on assumptions from conversations months before and seriously, when the MCs just DON'T talk about the important stuff - it rubs me the wrong way.

As always the side characters? Chef's kiss. The found family vibe of the Shore Thing series is one of my favorite things about it - especially that the main group still spends time together without their signficant others. Their relationship is just as important as the relationships each of the boys have with their 'Forever Person'. I also love that they can all hang out as a big group.

This book was amazing. Pretty decent steam levels too. Highly recommend.

This was the first book in this series I read but I definitely liked it. It can be definitely read as a stand-alone but now I got a taste of this series and I think I will read the other books as well.

Noah is a very loveable character and tries to help everyone on the island. he loves being helpful and being needed but also like a ray of sunshine for everyone around him. his big dream is having a family of his own, which all is friends around him are living now.

Hunter on the other side does not want a relationship - which is not important anymore as he is a father now.

I liked how Hunter was not immediately the perfect father. it was really well done how he got into the role and how his relationshipsn, not only with his son but that above all, developed. I loved that we see how difficult it is to be a parent, for everyone and how important it is to have people to support you.

the relationship between Hunter and Noah was really well done as well and I enjoyed getting to know both of them and their self-made family.

all in all this was a very enjoyable read and I will be looking forward to the next book.

an ARC was provided by GRR and I am happy to give my honest opinion.
