A guide to weaving beautiful projects with small and simple tools.
Weaving is an exciting and increasingly popular craft that doesn’t have to involve gigantic looms and inaccessible patterns. In Simple Weave , Kerstin Neumüller shows weaving techniques using tools that are easy to make yourself and often small enough to fit in a pocket.
Packed with inspiration for those who have never woven but are eager to try, as well as for experienced weavers interested in working with flexible and portable tools, the book is divided into three
Crafters will enjoy the mindfulness and rhythm of this traditional craft and will be equipped to create bespoke, contemporary pieces in their own style.
I check this book out of the library looking for instructions on how to use a backstrap loom with a rigid heddle. It was pretty good.
However, while it discusses warping with a warping mill, the book doesn't discuss how to manage a long warp. It does discuss how to roll up your weave as you go and how to secure it from unrolling. Presumably the same instructions apply to rolling up your warp on the back loom beam/rod.
Oh, and the publisher misnamed the book. All of the methods discussed in the book require a loom of some sort.
I don't need another hobby, but if I did, I'd love to try weaving. This book shows you that it doesn't take enormous looms and lots of materials and supplies to get started. You can have just a rigid heddle and some yarn, and make some stunning woven bands and other small textiles. Maybe someday I'll have time in my life for another hobby, and when I do, I'll come back to this beautiful book and its great instructions and illustrations to get started.
