Christmas in Hawaii is all surfing Santa Claus, palm trees strung up with lights and… murder?
It’s the most wonderful time of the year on Maui, although not so much for one of Zoe’s patients. Zoe is convinced the woman was murdered, despite her death being ruled accidental, but the police won’t listen to her so she goes to Charlie for help. The two of them, along with Dot and Rosie, set out to get justice for Zoe’s patient.
But what initially looks like it might be a simple case quickly becomes complicated, and Charlie finds herself in more danger than cookies left out on Christmas Eve. Oh, and is that Jake standing under the mistletoe?
All Charlie wants for Christmas is to catch a murderer. That’s not too much for a girl to ask for, is it?
Love this wonderful Cozy-Mystery Series! Since there isn't much in the way of my preferred genre that is set at Christmas, I've been reading a lot of cozies this month. P.I. Charlotte has a new relationship with Jake the cop. How they make it all work will play out over the future books, but this one is all about them finally giving into what everyone saw as inevitable from the beginning. And solving a murder too.
Zoe is Charlie's best friend, roomie and an emergency room doctor. When she loses a young woman in the ER, Zoe is convinced she was murdered and asks Charlie to look into after the cops rule the death accidental. As Charlie and her "assistants" Dot and Rosie look into her life they find a lot that the young college student wanted to keep hidden, but nothing that points to who would want her dead.
Kalikimaka Killer is Book 6 in the Charlotte Gibson Mystery series by Jasmine Webb.
Christmas in Hawaii sounds perfect! Well until the murder, or is it?
Charlie's best friend Zoe thinks one of her patients was murdered even though no one will listen to her.
Charlies sets out to investigate with her friends Dot and Rosie.
I love how the romance between Jake and Charlie has progressed, I love how the romance doesn't take over the mystery but is a really nice addition and feels so natural.
The mystery really was complex and multi-layered.
I really enjoyed this book. This is such a great series!
4.5 stars. Another terrific book in this series, and the ending was the set up (I’m guessing) for the next book! Great characters and narration and lots of descriptions of beautiful Hawaii.
It’s Christmas in Hawaii and Charlie has two cases going on. The first is tracking down a bail-jumper – and of course she manages to get tasered again. Zoe brings her the murder case. Zoe believes one of her patients in the emergency room was poisoned, but the cops aren’t taking her concerns seriously, so she asks Charlie to investigate.
The mystery was decent. The dead woman’s friends are basically the only suspects, since they are the only ones who would have had the chance to poison her. Charlie discovers the woman had a few secrets, but none seem to give anyone a reason to kill her. The clues are tucked in well and the whodunnit made sense.
And it is Christmassy – we have several Santa gone bad moments and a kiss under the mistletoe.
I traveled to Maui almost every year with my parents from 1972-1987 and then later in a few times in the 2020s. This series brings back so many memories and it almost feels like I’m reading about my own backyard. Outside of the first year up in Kaanapali we stayed in Kihei. I even became friends with Charli Young’s wife. Charli Young’s Beach is mentioned in book 6, and was named after this gentleman who took on the responsibility to teach so many young Hawaiian children to swim. The characters in the series are quirky but competent and it doesn’t take long to find yourself invested in their lives. Thanks for the stories.
Charlie is totally stumped during to the police shoddy workmanship, causing the body to be cremated just days after the murder. Jake let his feelings be known and tells Charlie one of his most private secrets, making Charlie realize how much he cares for her. Another slimball that urinated pictures in the sand tasers Charlie again but she encoders much more quickly. She definitely has her hands full since the mobsters have tracked her down again and are coming for her.
I always enjoy reading Charlie, Dot, and Rosie's adventures. However, this book was so poorly edited, that it really distracted from the story and made this my least favorite of the series so far. I was glad Charlie and Jake got together, but a chapter apart from each other they had the exact same conversation about who Henry was. There are other examples as well as misspellings that took away from what otherwise was a very fun book.
Charlie Gibson is looking at her first Christmas on the Island. Then her supervising PI calls to tell her about a bail skipper from Oahu to look for. Her roommate Zoe a Doctor asks her to look into the death of her patient of a heart attack. Plus her love interest Jake and she begin to heat up. A mad cap crew that always gets the perp. Lots of laughs.
This delightful series by Jasmine Webb is quality writing! The colorful cast of characters are hilariously entertaining and keep you turning page after page. Charlotte Gibson, aka Charlie, is a fledgling PI, but along with her geriatric cohorts is a winning combination. Don't miss the laughs and sound entertainment!
Once again, Charlie is on the case. I love that this story saw more family interaction. We saw not only Mom but Charlie’s chosen family. I enjoyed this very much and can’t wait for the next one.
I absolutely enjoyed this next book in a high quality cozy mystery series. Charlie investigates unsolvable murders because she cares what happened to the murder victim. As always, the ending was hilarious surprise.good fun!
Easy, enjoyable read. But, I wish I read the series from the start. There is some information and relationships from prior books that were referenced. Not a very complex story line, but I would read another book in the series.
This 6th book in the series leaves me baffled until the end! The case seems unsolvable … until it’s solved! I enjoy the characters, storyline and overall mystery. Enjoy!
I loved it all. As always, an easy read. It just goes at a fast pace and really keeps you glued to each page. I love Charlie, Zoe , Rosie and Dot as if they were.my own friends. Keep up the good work, Jasmine!
Well, I am ready for the next episode of this story. I have to wait until March to read it. Drat, that isn't right, but maybe I can do it. Thanks for the adventure.
With Christmas fast approaching, Charley is looking forward to her first holiday back on Maui when she is asked to help with 2 cases that seem so crazy
