Anh Do

Anh Do is a comedian, artist and also one of the highest selling Australian authors of all time, with total book sales approaching 3 million.

Anh’s first book, The Happiest Refugee, is his enormously popular memoir recounting his perilous childhood journey in a tiny boat from war-torn Vietnam to Australia. The book became an instant hit and has won numerous awards including Australian Book of the Year.

Anh has since turned his attention to children’s book writing.

Weird Do is an illustrated series starring Weir (1st name), Do (2nd name), a kid with a very unfortunate name. Aimed at the 8+ market, these books have gone off the charts as national best-sellers, resulting in 14 books total and more on the way. The first Weir Do won the Australian Book Industry Award for Older Children (2014).

Other children's book series include Hotdog, the adventures of a sausage dog and also Ninja Kid, the escapades of a 10 year old Nerd who discovers he’s the world’s last ninja.

In 2019, Anh released Wolf Girl, a series about a little girl who gets lost in forest and befriends a group of dogs and an enormous Wolf who become her family. Then came Rise of the Mythix, which marks the first of a number of sagas described by Anh as ‘A superhero movie in a book’.

All of Anh Do’s books are mega bestsellers and all rate between 4-5 star averages on websites such as Goodreads and Amazon.

It’s clear that Anh is an exciting voice in literature, able to delight across age ranges and different genres with great success, and he isn’t planning to slow down any time soon.

Grandma’s new invention can bring book characters to life, which sounds amazing, unless you’re thinking of bringing Annie Wilkes to life. Or you intend to use it to make another crossover possible in two series that can really shine when they tell their own stories but whose characters have no business being in the same universe.

In this next instalment of Anh Do’s crossovers with his other series, Ninja Kid crosses over with Pow Pow Pig. Conveniently, Pow Pow Pig is the favourite series of Nelson’s class and they’re putting on a play based on it.

Anyway, so Nelson and Kenny use Grandma’s invention and not only release Pow Pow Pig and the rest of Z team but also a man-insect called Muzzkito. Apparently Z team battle Muzzkito in Nelson’s favourite Pow Pow Pig book, which must have been released in his world before this one because this is the first I’ve heard of him.

And with that, my favourite Anh Do series has been ruined. At this point I don’t know why I’m still reading his books. They started out so well and I loved them so much. Now they just frustrate me, so I think it’s time to bid them farewell.

More fun with Nelson & Kenny this time with an appearance from the Pow Pow Pig gang (this seems to be a theme with Anh books lately the characters keep crossing over - they were also in the last Werido book)

We have yet to read this book, we are located in Canada and have not been able to find these books #9-15 available anywhere. I did see them on Amazon, but the price is ranging from $30-45 a book. Does anyone have a suggest on where we can purchase 9-15?

Anh Do is enjoying his series crossover. This time with Pow Pow Pig. Only Dr Kane arrives but has a short role with Muzzkito, and the usual other stuff happens like clockwork. But also, how can a group of kids learn a play in a day?

Same as before. These books are not targeted towards me. I would like to see some progress on the main story. I think the kid will never have his father back. My kids love these stories.

Still has its funny moments but quite underwhelming compared to the rest of the series.

Could have done a lot more with Pow Pow. Their appearance felt like a gimick to feature the other book. The story / villain didn’t feel like it was large enough to warrant a cross-over.

To me Pow Pow is an inferior series in terms of characters and story and it shows. Their showing up here kind of brought the quality of this book down.
