This sensational cookbook brings you a range of the tastiest treats from the iconic GET BAKED® bakery.
GET BAKED in Leeds shot to fame during 'Sprinklegate', when its founder, Rich Myers, brilliantly capitalized on the banning of his use of US sprinkles. Rather than going quietly, Rich declared he would never use the inferior British variety and boycotted all sprinkles until he had created a UK version that does the job to his satisfaction!
Expen$ive Sprinkles has now launched and they pair perfectly with GET BAKED's bold range of desserts including cookies, brownies, cakes and pies which are all high on the taste and indulgence spectrum and definite crowd pleasers.
This book brings you 40 of those most popular creations, including Raspberry Glazed Donut Cookie, Lemon Meringue Pie, Mr Pistachio, Purple Haze, S'Mores Brownies, Campfire and Birthday Truffles , culminating in the famous ‘Bruce’, a 24 layer giant consisting of chocolate cake and ganache , that people travel far and wide to buy.
Written in Rich’s trademark style, this book offers a fun and accessible way to enjoy these unique recipes, meaning bakers of all abilities will enjoy the tasty treats and sumptuous creations from this increasingly popular brand.
One of a kind recipe book. I don't usually read every sentence in the recipe books I buy. But I made an exception for this one. If you follow GB at all, you'll understand why. (Thanks to Net Galley for this Amazing Cookbook!)
Nice cookbook, well designed, nice layout and lots of appealing photos which is always good. Steps are clearly explained and it’s great for beginners as it really does clearly explain the instructions, can’t wait to start making these at home now
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy in return for an honest opinion
Really impressed with this recipe book. Its a genuinely enjoyable read with loads of funny little bits and some really aesthetically pleasing piccys. I did attempt the lemon meringue pie already which was explained in a really user friendly way- was a bit overwhelmed before making it because it looks SO grand but the recipe was super clear and the pie was banging. Can’t wait to bake some more stuff from it!
Buy me a ticket to Leeds, pronto! I want to taste all the treats offered up at GET BAKED Bakery. Sadly this is not in my budget this year, so I am happy to have access to these scrumptious recipes in the GET BAKED cookbook written by the creator of these delicious delights, Rich Myers.
The first thing that drew me to this cookbook was the bright and colorful cover. Then I read in the description something about a "Sprinklegate" and I just had to know more. So thankfully I was given the chance to preview this book by NetGalley and the publisher White Lion Publishing and I will be forever grateful.
I had so much fun reading this cookbook thanks to the humor and wit of Rich Myers. Not only are you presented with page after page of easy to follow recipes, you get a little whimsy within each presentation. To top it all off, whether it be with ganache, merengue or dazzling sprinkles, each recipes is photographed in full page splendor. I wanted to lift each one up and take a bite.
From the moment I downloaded this book, I began to devour each sweet page. As I was waiting in line at school pickup, I found myself laughing at yet another funny comment from the cook. I have never been more engaged with a cookbook (a cook book for heavens sake). Next thing I knew I was searching for pen and paper, getting ready my shopping list of ingredients. Recipe after recipe left me saying "I'll start with this one". The biggest challenge with this cookbook is picking just one recipe to try. So from here on out I declare Binge Baking a thing.
Add Leeds to my travel bucket list because I cannot wait to taste these desserts in person. My thanks go out to NetGalley and White Lion Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this cookbook. I am leaving this review here voluntarily.
This delicious-looking cookbook packs a variety of recipes, including multi-layer cakes, pies, cookies, sweet rolls, brownies, truffles, and even a milkshake. This treasure trove for sugar and chocolate lovers is filled with colorful, vibrant photography of every recipe.
I received an electronic galley copy of this title from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It’s about time someone came out with a baking book that has new, innovative treats that bakers everywhere will actually want to bake. Rich Myers, also known as “Mr. Sprinkles,” is a genius when it comes to fabulous, showstopper desserts in his cookbook, GET BAKED: Sensational Cakes, Bakes & Desserts.
I love this cookbook! The desserts aren’t your run-of-the-mill types that are found in hundreds (maybe thousands) of baking books. There is a touch of British culture in many of the recipes which makes it different than baking books published in the US. The prose is fun to read – Myers has a great sense of humor – and even when not in the mood to bake, this is a fun book to curl up and read. The recipes are written in the traditional form, albeit British measurements with US measurements in parentheses. The measurements given, however require weighing rather than using measuring cups which makes it necessary to use a conversion program for most bakers. The instructions are easy-to-follow for bakers of every level, from beginning to advanced. Except, of course, for the “Bruce” a 24-layer chocolate cake that I suspect may be impossible for any of us non-professionals to really pull off at home. It’s worth purchasing the book just to see the picture of the chocolate cake where one slice serves four to six. Sprinkles (they call for his brand – Expen$ive Sprinkles) are used in many of the recipes, and make the desserts very colorful. The recipes are very appealing, and they turn out picture perfect.Incidentally, there are also beautiful photographs of every recipe, which makes it difficult to decide what to make next.
All told, this is a fun baking book and will make an excellent addition to any cookbook collection.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
If you are aware of Sprinklegate then you have heard of Get Baked Bakery in the UK. If you aren't familiar then the story is Rich Myers got busted for using US made sprinkles in his baked goods that are considered illegal in the UK due to a specific dye. He was using the US sprinkles instead of the UK ones because he felt they were superior. He made several snarky posts about it on Facebook and thus Sprinklegate was born.
Well now he has written a cookbook. And his writing in the recipes are just as funny as his commentary during Sprinklegate. Probably one of the most entertaining cookbooks I have ever read. And the recipes look delicious. I'm pretty stoked to try the pink grapefruit bars, banoffee pie, and strawberry limeade pie to name just a few. There is a beautifully photographed picture of each recipe that will make you wish the book came with samples.
I'm gonna have a few problems to solve though before I attempt a recipe. I'm gonna have to figure out what digestive biscuits are as well as a few other ingredients (caster sugar I'm looking at you). I'm not sure we have these in the US. And every single ingredient is listed by weight. I rarely feel like even measuring my flour by weight...I don't want to be weighing my eggs. But the desserts look so yummy that maybe I'm ready to try weighing all my ingredients like a professional.

I've never heard of Rich Myers or Get Baked, the Leeds bakery he owns, so I had no expectations when I opened this cook book. Measurements are all listed by weight since this lends itself to accuracy in baking and oven temps are written both in Celsius and Fahrenheit. The book is organized into the several different recipe categories: chocolate, nuts, fruit, spice, sugar, and Bruce. Bruce is a single multilayered chocolate cake recipe but definitely deserves to be in a category of its own!
GET BAKED is full of riffs on recipes like s'mores brownies, Banoffee pie, and birthday cake. With some cookbooks I've purchased in the past, there's been quite a few out there recipes that require ingredients that I wouldn't really otherwise buy but the ones in this book are mainly familiar baking staples and feel very accessible to make. The instructions are written in a casual yet technical manner with a fun sense of humor. Excited to bake my way through this book!
Even the photos are decadent! This book has so many delicious looking recipes! And some unusual ones. Like blueberry pancake cookies - I must say that the photo made me drool and decide that this recipe must be tried - along with nearly every recipe in the book. Don't let a child see this book because every recipe with those gorgeous sprinkles will need to be made.
I did have to look up digestive crackers (translation to American is graham crackers) although you can buy real digestive crackers in many grocery stores. The other thing that we may not have in the American kitchens is "superfine" sugar, which can be purchased in some stores, or created in your food processor.
Every recipe has been presented in grams and ounces, as well as degrees C and degrees F.
For the baker who is looking for out of the ordinary but that also appeal to everyone's eyes and taste buds.
Get Baked contains amazing recipes from the Get Baked bakery in Leeds. Owner Rich Myers is not only a baking genius but a marketing god. Following a ‘to-do’ with Trading Standards a couple of years ago, Myers used the publicity to capitalise on the sensations that are his baked goods.
This book is crammed full of all the things you’d find in the shop (or on Instagram, if you can only admire them from afar) Not least Bruce - the 12 layer chocolate cake. It is beautifully presented, packed with Rich Myer’s style, well written and shows an absolute confidence in showcasing the recipes for what Get Baked actually sells.
By far the best book of baked goods I’ve seen. Excited to get stuck into the recipes but even just looking at the pictures brings on a sugar rush.
This book just made me hungry from start to finish! Not only are there some great recipes but the instructions are quite funny throughout!
I've compiled a list of my favourite recipes and the first that really stood out to me were
cinnamon toaster pastries, I just cant get enough of anything cinnamon and these were something I haven't seen before! Also the raspberry glazed donut cookies look fantastic!
I also liked that there were basics like properly whipped cream and homemade caramel, these things seem like common sense to many but is great for anyone new to baking.
and omg the Bruce! That is the most fantastic looking Chocolate cake I have ever seen I may need an excuse soon to give it a go!
Get Baked by Rich Myers is one of the more attractive, and engaging, cookbooks I have read. Yes, I said read. Though I may not read cookbooks like my housemate does (she treats them like short stories) I did actually read this one rather than skim and pick a couple of recipes to try.
I found the recipes easy to follow and while my creations didn't look quite like the pictures (think Frankenstein's monster next to, say, Brad Pitt) they were delicious.
I would highly recommend this to anyone willing to put in the time and effort to have wonderful desserts and treats. If you make some of these for a gathering, you will be the hit of the party.

I wasn't familiar with Myers, sprinklegate, or Get Baked before this book. It's a beautiful book!
This book has great photos and a variety of desserts. It's very ambitious - this is not a baking book for beginners. The recipes are listed in ounces and grams so American bakers may struggle a bit and the instructions are helpful, but written in a way that's a bit dense and assumes that the reader is familiar with baking. The desserts themselves are over the top and unique. The book shares recipes for super layered cakes, cookies, and more.
"Getting baked" means something very different here in Canada than it must mean in Leeds, UK. (LOL)
Molly Yeh will always be the queen of sprinkles for me, but I guess that I can see his point of making good sprinkles for the UK available as sprinkles are everywhere these days.
That aside, this is a good book full of recipes that will be easily made at home. The instructions are understandable by cooks of all levels and the photos make the treats very enticing.
I am SO happy I was able to get an ARC of this! Myself and my husband love going to Get Baked for a treat, and I can't wait to try out some of the recipes myself (although I doubt mine will be as good, and we'll end up going down the road to the shop anyway). We've been around since the original days and it has been great to see the business grow. Informative and funny - what more could you want in a recipe book!
"Get Baked" by Rich Myers is a fantastic baking book. The recipes range from simple to very complex but the instructions are very clear, making all bakes in this book achievable. Each recipe is accompanied by a picture that has been beautifully styled, with such clear attention to detail that they capture the whimsical character of the finished product.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Such a fun baking book. I'm an avid baker, with many, many baking books, and this one did not disappoint. With a mix of easier and more complex recipes, straightforward instructions with clear explanations, and beautiful pictures, this is a book anyone can find a favourite recipe in. I appreciated the explanation of equipment that might be needed, and really loved the colours within the book and the beautiful photography.
Wow! What an absolutely stunning book. I've now pre-ordered because I need to own it!
I've followed this bakery on Instagram for a while and even travelled to purchase the infamous 'Bruce' so I was overjoyed when I saw it here.
The photography is stunning, every page was a feast for the eyes. I really can't wait for it to arrive so I can attempt to bake everything. I'm not very good, but after having the opportunity to take a look, I didn't hesitate in jumping on to purchase.
5 stars ! Who would’ve thought that I will laugh reading a cooking book ? I really loved it from the beginning to the end ! The recipe are nice and seems delicious and easy enough to do. But the best must be the explanations within the book that made me laugh and enjoy it. I think I need to buy this book for myself and people around that loves baking. 100% recommend , looking forward to try the recipe myself!
I remember when sprinkle gate took over social media over a year ago, so seeing how far Rich Myers has come with his bake shop and now a book (in addition to having developed his own sprinkles that are UK compliant!) is fantastic!
I really enjoyed looking through the cookbook and was thrilled to see Bruce included! As a long time baker, the recipes were clear, instructive, and also had great humour in the narrative. The photos were stunning!
Unfortunately, due to other commitments and mood, I haven't been able to try out any of the recipes yet, but I definitely want to do so!
I didn’t know this author prior to this cookbook and he’s now my favorite. I mean look at that cover. The whole book is filled with amazing recipes (and pictures) just like that. The author is witty and writes a great (concise) recipe. I will be working my way through this book. Except for the meringue bc that’s the bane of my existence. (Thanks humidity)
I just downloaded this delicious book and I can’t wait to devour these recipes! S’mores, Truffles, Brownies, and Doughnuts. The recipes seem easy to follow along. This will be a household staple. Thank you NetGalley!
for the record i haven't made many recipes out of this cookbook so far the recipes are really unique and honestly look fucking amazing, however they are definitely more for large, (LARGE,) groups of people, and less like four or five people.
Tons of fun in this book - interesting and unusual sorts of recipes and an entertaining tone. Will I try to make a Bruce? I just don't know but it is oh so tempting!
This is a fun mix of the recipes made popular by this Leeds based bakery. It includes popular desserts featured in the bakery along with the famous 'Bruce'. The book is short, sweet and simple.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This is such a great book!! I think some of these recipes are a bit more than i'm used to but they all look amazing! also LOVED the Bruce!!
I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher. The book is filled with recipes for various desserts, from classics and favorites to interesting new bakes. There are plenty of pictures and the instructions are clearly written.
