My thoughts:
Gordon Ramsay + Nat Geo = A Culinary Adventure Explosion 💥
From the moment I received this incredible and gorgeous book, I have been loving turning the pages and planning my next culinary adventure and travel at the same time. When I travel around the globe, I travel using my palate as I eat my way around the world. This was the perfect book for me. I love the photos and how inspiring it is for me.
Consider this book as the perfect gift for the people in your life that loves cooking, traveling, eating, with a sense of adventure and passion for the best in life.
A preview of this book. The imagery is gorgeous and seems really well put together. The few recipes available to see look amazing and don't take a culinary genius to make. I'm excited to see how the book is in its entirety.
There are three things I am certain of: 1. Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted: A Culinary Adventure With Recipes From Around the World is coming out soon, 2. Gordon Ramsay is the author. 3. National Geographic is the publisher. That's all I need to know. I already preordered my copy and a few for gifts of this illustrated coffee table cookbook. In his search for new savory inspiration, Ramsay travels to 25 unique adventure spots searching for indigenous people to share inspirational and savory recipes. Insights shared by National Geo's photographers are also among the many reasons to have this book.
As expected, I found nothing in this sample that I didn't enjoy. I thank NetGalley and National Geographic for providing this digital ARC (advance review copy) sampler of the unedited chapter. I've formed my opinions on the assumption that the entire project is of consistent, first-class quality as these pages, I voluntarily submit my honest review and opinions.
I recommend this book to readers of all ages who are interested in the categories of coffee table books, celebrity & tv show cookbooks, International Cooking & Wine, National Geographic, Gordon Ramsey, and ethnic foods.
Ahh! I wish this was more than just a few pages!! The descriptions were gorgeous. The pictures were beautiful and yet it was all still very Gordon-esqe. I could hear his voice as I read it. And there were some recipes at the end based on the ingredients that he had talked about finding on his missions. As a huge fan, even though I am not a huge cook or chef, I would enjoy this for the visual aspects and to see more of his travels as I absolutely loved the tv show it’s based on. Would also make a great gift for the foodies in your life. Thanks to National Geographic Books and NetGalley for the eArc in exchange for my review.
2023 bk 266. My oh my - I do with that Amazon had not cancelled my print orders of this book twice. I was left reading it in ebook format - and this is one of those books that ebook does not do it justice. pictures were separated from text, it was hard to flip back and forth to re-read what Ramsey said about a particular recipe. My only gripe about the book was that he didn't include many, if any, of the recipes of the other chefs in the Big Cooks. I would have liked to have seen some of those. If you are planning a trip to Maine or the Jurassic Coast or any of the places mentioned in this book, I heartily recommend you read this first for a taste of what you might find unique to the area.
It’s quite interesting seeing how many people still forage and hunt for the food they use in their restaurants. The ability to use all of an animal or plant is impressive in today’s throwaway culture and this book makes me yearn for a simpler life.
Gordon Ramsay was inspired to write this book based on the National Geographic show Uncharted in order to give us an understanding and appreciation for the history, culture, and local foods through the eyes of a chef. This book includes the following locations: Peru, Morocco, Laos, New Zealand, Hawaii, South Africa, Norway, India, Louisiana, Croatia, Iceland, Portugal, Maine, Michigan, The Great Smokey Mountains, Texas, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Wales, and England. A fascinating book with a wonderful collection of unique recipes and amazing photography!
"Gordon Ramsey's Uncharted sampe was fascinating with all the locations. The recipes looked absolutely yummy. This book brings world traditions into each mouth watering dish. This is definitely a must read book. I look forward to cooking some of these recipes.
THANK YOU to the Author, Publisher, and Netgalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an Honest review!

✨𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐈 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤?
Let’s be honest- National Geographic books have AMAZING photos that make for the best coffee table books! This one features some amazing photographs plus some interesting and unique recipes from all around the world. I love that Ramsay is mixing his love for cooking with traveling and combining them together in his television show ‘UNCHARTED' as well as in this beautifully laid out book. I could literally hear Ramsay’s personality shine throughout this book as I flipped through the pages and read through it. The book not only features recipes from certain locations, but it also has a lot of information on the place and its culture.
✨𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤?
I feel like most of the recipes are for people who actually know what they are doing what it comes to cooking, and are a little more on the complicated side.
✨𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤?
All the foodies and travel lovers out there should pick this one up!
I love National Geographic, man. This is a built coffee table style cookbook that requires a workout to hold up, and it's worth it. The recipes are fantastic and range from easy to make (Louisiana Cajun shrimp) to "I don't have any of those ingredients" level difficult, and the descriptions and photos in there will make your mouth water. And major credit for the photos. Ramsey gives credit to Foley, Sealy and Coakley for book design and photography editing/direction, and they deserve basically front-page credit because their work in here makes the book. The photos of certain areas are mind-blowing, and they even get picturesque ones of Ramsey rappelling down a waterfall or whatever he's doing in the TV show.
That last paragraph was about literally everything but the actual writing of the book, which you can tell early on is ghostwritten to absolute hell. The writing itself isn't bad...it's informative in a NatGeo way, and is able to pack all that information for entire nations within basically a 5 page summary (admittedly with some transitions that'll give you whiplash). But some of the cool aspects of these summaries have a hard time making it to the recipe pages. Further, it's written pretty generically. While Ramsey has personality (that isn't just yelling), it rarely shows on the pages, instead leaning into final paragraphs that use "because of ______ and _____, this is a pretty cool place with good people, and I really liked it" type stock.
National Geographic offers early readers samples of forthcoming books. From what I can see, the finished book looks as if it will be a good one.
Many know the name Gordon Ramsay. In this title, that accompanies a TV show, he tastes the cuisine of many countries including locations in Peru, Morocco, Laos, New Zealand, Hawaii, South Africa, Norway, Tasmania, India, Louisiana, Croatia, Iceland, Portugal, Maine, Michigan, The Great Smoky Mountains, Texas , Puerto Rico, Mexico, Wales and England. Wow! A lot of territory and foods to explore.
I think that adventurous chefs and travelers will enjoy this title. In the sample, in addition to the recipes, there was a lot of information on the location. There are many beautiful photos as well. The first recipe that I saw was for Ras El Hanout or Braised Beef Short Ribs. There were other delicious sounding recipes as well. I would love to see the full title.
Meanwhile, many thanks to NetGalley and National Geographic for this sample. All opinions are my own.
Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted: A Culinary Adventure With 60 Recipes From Around the Globe is the adaptation of the National Geographic show into a travel cookbook. The chef visits places like Peru, Morocco, Louisiana, Maine, the Smoky Mountains, and Wales, to name a few. Not just about the recipes, this travel guide includes beautiful photographs, stories about the individual cuisines, and marketplaces. There are also spotlight stories, such as Foraging with the King of the Mushrooms.
Overall, Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted was more coffee table book than cookbook, but would be great for fans of the chef and for those who like to travel. This would be a great gift for the adventurer in your life. I learned a great deal about different places, ones that I might like to visit in the future. The balance between the places visited and the recipes was good, though I do wish there had been more dishes to explore on my own.
Disclaimer: I was given the opportunity to read this travel book by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this book was entirely my own.
As this is only a sample to the book itself, I tried to remain partial to the content given. I love everything Gordon Ramsey; he was one of my favorite chefs on Food Network, I've adored eating at Hell's Kitchen, and I watch anything he's in every chance I get. I was really excited at the prospect of this book because it is him and National Geographic combined, which is sure to produce and artistically done book where the images and texts pop out to the reader, begging to be displayed on a wall.
I was completely right in thinking I'd enjoy this. Again, since it's a sample, only a few pages are shown. But the images are astoundingly rich in color and detail, while the text urges you forward to cultures you may not yet be familiar with and recipes that are sure to leave your mouth watering just by looking at it. I can't wait to have access to the full book.
I love Gordon Ramsey and feel that his personality shines through in everything that he does. This book is no exception. The sections about the areas he’s traveled to and what the area is known for are very much in his voice. This excerpt of the book made me want to read more. There is an introduction to the culture of the area and as well as the ingredients they use. The photographs are beautiful and showcase the beauty of the location. The recipes are easy to understand but require more than a basic knowledge of cooking (they’re not for beginners) but are accessible with a little research. The ingredients are ones that can be found in the local supermarket or specialty store so can be made my any home chef. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the book is like!
I received an excerpt from NetGalley for an honest review.
I absolutely adored the SAMPLE CHAPTER of Uncharted. I'm currently planning my 2nd trip to Morocco, so I was thrilled to see the Sample Chapter was in fact, the Morocco chapter!
What I love most about the Nat Geo Unchartered series is Gordon's authentic passion for the people he meets and how deeply and authentically he immerses himself in the culture, ancestral traditions and regional specialities of the places he visits. This book perfectly encapsulates the series. The sample chapter is replete with stunning photography, mouthwatering recipes and evocative personal anecdotes that command a strong sense of destination.
In the National Geographic television series Uncharted, chef Gordon Ramsay journeys to some of the most remote locations on Earth in search of culinary inspiration, epic adventures, and cultural experiences. Experience his journey in this beautifully illustrated collection, featuring 75 mouthwatering recipes and revealing insight into the cultures and foodways of destinations from Peru to Louisiana.
I got a fantastic SAMPLER of this upcoming book and cannot wait to read the whole thing. Great recipes with none of the snark. Highly recommended.
I didn't realize when I clicked the widget that I was only getting a sample of Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted from NetGalley. In the few pages of the book I was able to see, there are gorgeous pictures of food, and interesting pictures of Ramsay cooking with local folks. There were only a couple recipes, but it was enough to pique my curiosity! I'll definitely check this book out when it comes to my public library.
a sample of Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted: A Culinary Adventure with 60 Recipes From Around the Globe was provided by National Geographic, via NetGalley, for the purpose of my honest review
Uncharted is a delightful culinary adventure that takes readers on a journey to some of the world's most remote and fascinating locations. Through vivid narratives, Gordon Ramsay explores rich food traditions and cultures in 25 remarkable destinations, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of his experiences filming the National Geographic Channel show. The book not only serves up 60 mouthwatering and authentic recipes, but also provides insights from top chefs worldwide, making it a perfect blend of travel inspiration, cultural exploration, and a must-have addition to any foodie's kitchen repertoire.
I really enjoyed this book as a companion to the TV show. To sum it up, Gordon goes to various locations and has a cooking competition with a local chef. He sources local ingredients by meeting the people who produce/catch them, and the end is the cook off for the people he met along the way.
The recipes look delicious but they sometimes have hard to get ingredients which is disappointing. I enjoyed learning about the places he went in more detail, 5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and National Geographic for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is either a super early ARC or only a preview copy because I only had 11 pages to review and 2 recipes. The cookbooks looks to be a companion piece to Ramsay's international travel and food show by the same name. The pictures are bright and vibrant and the recipes look to be unique. There are ingredients list and easy to follow instructions. I am a huge fan of Gordon's and would love to provide more information, if I get an updated copy I will update my review accordingly.
Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted was a deliciously intriguing, fully satisfying food affair for me. I enjoyed reading this sample immensely. I watched the show and really wanted to see how the book compared and was not disappointed. If you love Gordon, you're going to love Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted. One of my favourite things to read about is different cultures and this book does not disappoint. The recipes are brilliant and the photography quite literally out of this world. Thank you National Geographic and Netgalley for allowing me to review a sample of Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted.
Part travelogue, part cook book, this volume makes a great companion to Ramsays show Uncharted. I read the entire book with his voice in my head. While the recipes are very interesting, its actual utility as a cookbook is limited since many of the ingredients are from exotic locales. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to swing by and pick up a couple of wallaby filets at my local food lion! But as an inspiration to cook with local ingredients and for ideas to adapt to what is available, it's pretty good. I like Gordon Ramsay, so I thought it was a fun read.
Thank you National Geographic and NetGalley for the advanced electronic sample review pages of what promises to be a great book. Gorgeous photos, wonderful recipes, and beautiful descriptions of various places and cuisines makes this a great book to have and gift. As I read the sample pages, I could hear Gordon’s voice narrating. Can’t wait till the book comes out so that I can finish my virtual travel experience.
If you enjoyed the National Geographic television show and would like to make the recipes you saw, this is a good choice. There is a small description of each locale along with the area on the world map. Recipe ingredients are listed and directions are given. If you were hoping for more than what was in the show, it is not here.. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me this ARC.
I received a preview copy of this book. The photography is gorgeous with both food and scenic images. The recipes and stories are from some of the most remote places in the world. This book would look great on the coffee table as well as being a fascinating copy to include in a cookbook library. I look forward to reading more upon its release! Thank you to National Geographic Books and Net Galley for an ARC copy sample for review.
An insightful journey for Gordon Ramsey, for the Uncharted series by National Geographic. Gordon learns and shares his findings on cuisine. spices, ways of preparing, and creating outstanding dishes. Sharing their lifelong traditions handed down through the centuries by families in remote locations. Gordon shares some recipes and reveals techniques you won’t find in your general cookbook in his journey and cookbook. Join him in this inspirational cookbook and remote journey.
The companion book to National Geographic's Uncharted series, this cookbook is so much more than a cookbook. I've watched several episodes of the television series and the book brings you the same experiences. Entertainment as only Gordon Ramsey can provide. He really enjoys what he does and it shows in his cooking and his teaching. I've tried a couple of the recipes from the book with plans for more.
