Saffron & Spice is a spicy contemporary romance with adult themes. This book contains the death of a loved one, terminal illness, and sexual content.
The book get extra points because of the unusual pairing. It’s rare to read about Indian protagonists. Vikram was excellent. Multilayered, fighting to reconciled who he was with who he was expected to be. I really love how steadfast he wast in his love for Nevaeh. He really made an effort to know her, accept her and be there for her. As for Neveah, although I’m willing to give her grace because of her age, I still find her selfish and somewhat self absorbed at times. I understand that she had a very difficult few months, and dreams, however she said she was in love with Vikram and would be with him anywhere. Therefore I do not understand why it took her friend to push her to go with him while he was basically going through his father’s death? Clear lack of empathy. Her love was not unconditional. It’s also difficult to believe that she was never curious enough to google him, first of all for work purposes but also because she was growing closer to him. She never seemed to make the effort to try to understand his culture and his dilemma beyond food and Rosetta stones. At least one conversation with her best friend Riya would have made sense. Even Sean knew more about Vikram’s background that she did. I understand having career dreams, but she’s a chef and can do that anywhere. It sounded foolish that she would let her soulmate go for a restaurant. You would have thought that getting her medical diagnosis would have crystallized her priorities. Finding a supportive partner when faced with such challenges is a blessing. Even her mother was encouraging her to give her relationship her all.
Ms Darling gives us a lovely multicultural romance story filled with spirituality, food, passion and conflict. Vikram and Nevaeh meet and are instantly attracted. They don’t know they have a connection. She has been recommended to be his new sous chef. Illness and cultural differences almost derail them….really lovely story.
Listen this book!!!! I loved it and must own a physical copy... We all need a Vikram. Their connection, love and intimacy was perfect. Every time that man said Jaanu I melted. The author did a wonderful job.
