I may be promised to another . . . but thoughts of Rafe consume me. I don't know how much longer I can resist.
Lindsey is wild and reckless, a natural rebel - maybe because her entire life was laid out for her even before she was born. Her parents are among the most powerful members of the Dark Guardians, an ancient tribe of werewolves, and they arranged Lindsey's betrothal to Connor long ago. The next full moon is coming all too soon, and then her commitment to Connor will be final - no turning back. She should be happy . . . so why can't she stop thinking about gorgeous, brooding Rafe?
When a dangerous threat on the pack escalates, so do tensions between Connor and Rafe. A fight over Lindsey is imminent, but will it be to the death?
Rachel Hawthorne, who also writes as Lorraine Heath and Jade Parker, is the daughter of a British beauty (her mother won second place in a beauty contest sponsored by Max Factor® during which she received a kiss from Caesar Romero-who played the Joker on the old Batman TV series) and a Texan who was stationed at Bovingdon while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Herts, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her "dual" nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan. She enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.
When she received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, she had no idea she had gained a foundation that would help her to create believable characters—characters that are often described as “real people.” She writes for both adult and young adult readers. She received a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Americana historicals. Her novels have been recognized with a RITA, Romance Writers of America’s most prestigious award for excellence, a HOLT medallion award honoring outstanding literary fiction, a Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award, five Texas Gold Awards, the Golden Quill Award, the Rising Star Award as well as other awards and recognitions. Her novels have been selections of the Doubleday and Rhapsody Book Club. Her novels have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA Today, Waldenbooks, and most recently, the New York Times.
Book two in the Dark Guardian series follows Lindsey (Kayla’s best friend from book one). I was looking forward to hearing Lindsey’s story, I really enjoyed her character in Moonlight and she was enjoyable in Full Moon as well. I’m not really big on love-triangles, especially when they are really drawn out, like this one kind of was. I was getting a little tired of the back and forth, especially when the choice was so obvious. There were some good moments with Lindsey and Conner, as well as with Lindsey and Rafe. There wasn’t as much action in this one as there had been in Moonlight, but it still moved along quickly and kept my attention. Overall, I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading Dark of the Moon (which will be from Brittany’s point of view).
Awesome book. I've got to say I think this series, the Dark Guardians, rates higher for me than the Twilight series which has been such a rave amongst many readers, even myself. Even though the books are not very long, and I always end up wanting more, I enjoyed every moment, every word written.
In this particular book Lindsey struggles with the decision of choosing the right mate for herself. Her two choices are Connor the parent approved long time friend who she's been destined to mate with since she was little, or Rafe the brooding, quiet bad boy, who stirs her senses.
I love the way Rachel Hawthorne captures the feeling of the characters, and weaves a continuing story throughout the two books that I've read so for. Yesterday I purchased the third book Dark of the Moon and can't wait to get started.
Although I think this series was just supposed to be a trilogy I'm happy to have discovered that the fourth book is in the works and will be coming out in March of 2010.
The second book in the Dark Guardians series picks up right after the events of the first book. This book follows Lindsey, who was a side character in book one. It was a fast read, nothing memorable, but sometimes a simple mindless paranormal read is what you need.
Rachel Hawthorne has this incredible ability to make her characters seem so real, even if they are supernatural. Her female characters have this affect of me that no matter how they are described to be i always find a small part of me in them. When you read her books, particularly the Dark Guardian Series, you sense/feel this automatic connection with her characters and that's what makes me love the books all the more.
So, there's a little more drama in this one. Its every girls dream to have guys fight over you but you don't have any idea what you're signing yourself to when you decide to take this roller coaster ride. Lindsey's struggle is what defines the whole novel. How do you chose between the guy whose been there your whole life and shared almost every 'first' with you and the guy who you just got attracted to over the summer?
Just like Moonlight, light and fluffy but completely satisfying. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I like romances, but if you don’t... then I probably wouldn’t recommend this series.
This was a good sequel. Although, let it be known that this is one of those series that you know will never be great. You just hope that you will like it enough. I do feel that Lindsey was a better MC. Maybe it's because I liked her story better. Some of the things were wrapped up nicely but sadly one thing will not be until the last book. I just hope I don't lose interest by then.
(Im a spoiler(and 'spoiler' is just an understatement)!!..Beware)
THIS BOOK IS IN LINDSEY'S PERSEPECTIVE.
Full Moon picks up where Moonlight left off, only this novel follows Lindsay, Kayla’s best friend. Lindsay has always known her heritage. And when it comes to choosing her mate to transform with for her first full moon, the choice was obvious—Connor. She and Connor had been best friends their entire life. Their parents insist that they’re right for each other. Connor even had her name tattooed on his shoulder, as all male werewolves do when declaring their mate. Only Lindsay’s not so sure about her future with Connor anymore. There’s no spark in their relationship like there is between Kayla and Lucas. In fact, they’re more like buddies than loves. And suddenly Lindsay has developed an unrelenting attraction to Rafe, another male in their pack. **Good Girls Like Bad Boys** Unlike Connor, Rafe is the quiet, mysterious, bad boy type. He drives a motorbike and keeps to himself. Or at least he used to. Since returning from college for the summer, he has also been having a strong attraction to Lindsay, an attraction so strong, he pursues her despite the consequences. **Choosing a Mate** Lindsay is torn and confused. She can’t deny her strong attraction to Rafe. But she doesn’t ever want to hurt Connor, especially after saying that he loves her. Somehow Lindsay has to choose either Rafe or Connor as her mate before the full moon. If she doesn’t go through the transformation with someone else—specifically her mate—she could die. But the process is intimate and bonding. If she chooses wrong, she could live with regret for the rest of her life.

I wouldn't deny that I was a bit dissapointed that I wouldn't be reading more about Kayla and Lucas (which I inadmittedly fell in love with, perhaps because he's mysterious?) because I would have loved to read about the development of their story, to know if they have a happier ending or face even more troubles as they venture throughout their lives, of course do not neglect their about-to-be shifters friends. Still, I would very much prefer if they are still in the spotlight and to read the story in their perspectives. But hey, this is equivalently fun to read as well, because it is as good as Kayla's and Lucas' story. So this time, the spotlight had been passed down to Lindsey and Connor and Rafe (A triagle affair if you would understand) And once again, I'm intrigued with the tattoo, it always reminded me of a lifetime committment, which is ROMANTIC! Overall, this is a story about how Lindsey fought with her inner turmoil. Connor had been her best friend since birth and their parents had been pairing them up ever since, they shared a lot of sweet memories and they were compatible for each other in so many ways, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they ended up bonded and became mates. On the other hand, Rafe is a total opposite of Connor, he came from a broken family and always never gets what he wants, bad childhood? But he has been so sure of Lindsey and now he just have to face another (one of the many yet is the hardest) obstacle, he has to win her over.As for Lindsey, I think she knew all along that Rafe was the one for her but she sticked to Connor because of guilt, besides, they do love each other, just not as deep as her feelings towards Rafe. I knew she would have choosen Rafe eventually, (there's no surprise there) but what I haven't been prepared for is how she chose him. It was shifting night, and she chose Connor to be her mate and I thought that that was the last of it, because Rafe had left and they are so close to mating, but then, BAM! in came Rafe and I think Rachel did a good job describing and writing the fight scene as well as Lindsey's turmoil over who she wanted to live. It was a battle to death and she knew that if she didn't make the decision earlier, one of them could die. I could vividly picture the scene in my head. Also, this book has sparks things up in the Dark Guardian series, Brittany had transformed alone (and to read her cold feelings over her transformation had made pitied her in some sort of way), but I knew she would have a happy ending, and something tells me that it has something to do with Connor. Oh well, I just have to wait for the next book. LOL In a nutshell, I think I am really falling in love with the series and I couldn't wait to read the next book of the series! Let me guess, it's Brittany's turn?

Facts: *Shifters can’t control the first transformation. When the full moon rises, our bodies react to its call. *summer solstice, the longest day of the year, is usually a time when as many of our kind as possible come together to celebrate our existence. *Wolford: a village hidden deep within a huge national forest near the Canadian border. All that remained there of what had once been a vibrant community were a few small buildings and the massive, mansionlike structure that serves as the home of the elders who rule over us. *scientists who work for a medical research company called Bio-Chrome were determined to capture shifters and discover what makes us tick—or more important, what makes us transform. They wanted to patent this ability, develop it, and use it for their own financial gain. *a girl couldn’t survive the first transformation if she went through it alone. *sherpa—our name for those who guide campers into the heart of the wilderness and ensure they come nowhere near our hidden sites. *Those who could shift had the keen night vision of a wolf, even when they weren’t in wolf form. After the initial transformation, we brought many of our enhanced abilities back to shifter's human shape. *Smell is one of a Shifter’s most powerful senses. We aren’t into perfumes or artificial fragrances. Pheromones, the very essence of a person, appeal to shifters. *The Celtic symbol is always intricate and unreadable, decipherable only by the male until he shares it with the female. *One of the perks of being able to shift was rapid cell rejuvenation. Unless we received a fatal head or heart wound or the weapon that struck us was silver, we had the ability to heal quickly. *When we shift, we become telepathic. It’s how we communicate with others while in wolf form. As a bonus, we can also read the minds of those who aren’t in wolf form. *Our healing abilities were one of the reasons that Bio-Chrome was interested. *when a person lies the scent of their skin changes. *the SLY FOX is all the sherpa's favorite place to hang out..kinda like a club. *Reading each others/your mates mind is based on the relationship/type of bond actually/maybe. *biocrome owns a lab near the national forest, northeast to the corner..thats where the equipment is and stuff and they have ARMED guards there. *there are hidden lairs all over the forest. shifters stored food, extra clothes, and any other essentials we thought someone might need if separated from the pack, hurt, or in trouble. * first transformation always occurred in the forest, away from other Shifters. *shifters are stronger than wild wolves. *When we are bitten by one of our kind, the wound we receive doesn’t heal as quickly as those delivered by other animals. *Something in our saliva stops the healing process that usually occurs when we’re injured while in wolf form. *part of the ritual is the male makes the pallot for the mates to sleep on after the transformation. *True mates can read each other's mind in whatever form, anytime, anywhere, its like cell phones but only to your mate.

I gave this book a 5 I liked how you get to hear another persons story first book was Kayla. So that was a nice twist when I first started reading it. I was constantly yelling at this book though especially when I thought Lindsey was definitely going to pick the wrong guy. The suspense on who she was going to pick Killed me but I’m happy with the outcome. Overall it was a good read. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
So the covers of the Dark Guardian books have large faces on them that I find kind of creepy, especially when you leave the book on the floor then trip over it in the middle of the night and all you see is a face staring back at you..but that's all kind of moot since the cover doesn't affect weather I like a book or not. Now onto my thoughts
Things I liked:
-Nice, easy, short read. The language is not hard to decipher.
-Forbidden love *sigh* is there anything more romantic? The parts where Rafe & Lindsey are alone, and Lindsey is trying to ignore her feelings for Rafe I quite enjoyed.
-Props for the character names, I liked them all, they are different, but not so different that I can't pronounce them. I especially like the name Rafe, as one of my favorite novels (Once Upon A Dream by Katherine Kingsley) has the main character's name as Rafe.
-I never felt bored with the story, which I say is a plus, since it happens in books more than I would like.
-I thought the way Lindsey's feelings where described were accurate, when it came to truly caring about two guys at the same time, how she didn't want to hurt either one of them, trying to please both just ended up hurting herself. I thought it was well done.
Things I Disliked:
-There is a ton of recap, and a lot of explanation that I didn't think was needed since it was explained in the first book. Also some of the explanations of the wolves habits/abilities that was new didn't really need to be there either since you could probably figure out what was going on without it.
-I thought that Lindsey's best friend, Kayla, who is the main character in the first book, was a little annoying in this one, she came off like a mom. Giving Lindsey advice and opinions when it was obvious that Lindsey didn't need it. It's a shame since I really liked Kayla in the first book, and since she didn't grow up with the wolves everything was new to Kayla in the first book, where Lindsey knew pretty much everything about them.
Overall I liked it, I think about the same as I liked the first one but I can't say for sure since it's been awhile since I read it. I look forward to reading the 3rd book Dark Of The Moon, that was released Aug 25.
I give this a solid 3 out of 5, entertaining, but it didn't have anything to go crazy for. I would recommend this series for anyone looking for an easy read, especially if you don't have time to read a longer book.
The forbidden fruit is always the most tasty. Do we want it because it is the forbidden fruit or do we really love it? This is the predicument of the main character. Predicatable ending and yet the book has a way of drawing you so that you just can't put it down.
I really enjoyed this book, at times it did feel more like a wattpad book though. There were also things that seemed to be repeated. Over all it was a good easy book to get myself back into reading.
I admired that Brittany thought it was medieval to wait for a guy to ask her to be his mate. She thought she should be able to ask the guy she wanted, be alpha-female.
Lindsey asked Conner why none of the guys showed an interest in Brittany. He said he didn’t know, there’s something about her. She’s hot and in shape. What kind of idiot boyfriend would tell his girlfriend that another girl was hot?
Rafe said it was too late to wish on the first star. He went to say his wish anyway, but Lindsey put her fingers to his lips and said if he says it out loud, it won’t come true. He said since it involves her, it won’t come true anyway, unless she knows what it is. She regretted coming and told him he shouldn’t say something he’ll regret. Rafe said he spends a lot of time thinking about kissing her. She said he shouldn’t, and he said he shouldn’t want her for his mate either, but he does. Lindsey asked what about the girl whose name is tattooed on his shoulder and he said “God, Linsey, you have to know by now…”
He wanted to test his theory of if kissing her once will cause him to lose this hunger he has for her. When he came back from college this summer, it felt like a tree had hit him when he saw her.
When they got back after the summer solstice celebration, Lindsey asked Rafe if he’d ever considered Brittany as a mate. She’s available. He laughed harshly and said “What are you doing?” She said she was offering alternatives and he said he didn’t want alternatives. He said he doesn’t wonder what it would be like to kiss her, doesn’t feel a need to lay with his body curled around hers, he doesn’t relish her scent, or dream about her. He wants Lindsey.
Connor was there when she got back, asking where she’d been, because the whole summer solstice celebration was over by the time they got back. He looked sad, so you knew he was aware of it.
She found out Rafe had been reassigned, and Connor’s tight jaw gave away that he’d been responsible. She told him he didn’t mention it, and he asked if it mattered.
At the restaurant, Brittany played pool with a Static, Dallas, and they were all really suspicious. He even came out and asked if they were the werewolves he’d been hearing about. It was funny how Lindsey said she’d like to be a horse, while they were joking and trying to throw him off the trail. That was enjoyable.
Conner said he was glad he didn’t have to do the whole dating scene, and Lindsey asked if that’s if he thought that’s why they were together, because they were convenient.
During their trip, she told Conner that she was with Rafe that night. He’d known because he’d smelled it. She asked why didn’t he say anything and he said if she’s his he’ll fight for her but if not, he doesn’t want to know. He hadn’t had Rafe moved, it was because the Elders wanted to match Daniel with Brittany.
Lindsey went out picking blackberries by herself, and a cougar came up on her. Rafe appeared in wolf form and fought it off. She really likes the heroes fighting off wild animals for the heroine. But at least they don’t kill the wild animal.
Dallas was there, and the truth came out since she was cradling Rafe’s head and his injuries healed before their eyes. He offered information about Bio-Chrome, wanting to help them because he didn’t agree with what Dr. Keane and Mason were doing and quit his job.
It was sweet that Rafe finished picking berries and filled the rest of the bucket. That night she thanked him for it and for saving her ass. He said if anything had happened to her, if he hadn’t been there, it would have killed him.
Lindsey and Conner were going to see a movie, and he kissed her and accused her of thinking about Rafe. He asked if she loved Rafe and she said she didn’t know.
After Dallas was murdered, Rafe was going to try to find the lab on his own. Lindsey insisted on going with him, and Conner had told her maybe she should go to the movies with Rafe, since she’d thrown it out there. So he justified it by saying this is what Conner told her to do.
She hadn’t brought a sleeping bag, and Rafe told her to share his. She said she couldn’t. There were some lines that once crossed, she couldn’t take back. Then a few minutes later she’s settling down with him in his bag, putting her head in the crook of his shoulder. What happened to not crossing that line? And she didn’t have to snuggle up with him like that. I couldn’t support her at times like that.
The next morning he kissed her, and his eyes roved over every part of her face like he wanted to kiss her everywhere. He told her to wear her hair loose, and she said it would get tangled, and he said he’d comb it. She asked if he could tap into her dreams like he could her thoughts, and he said only if he’s awake, and grinned. They were nice moments between them.
Conner, Lucas, and Kayla found them in a cave and Conner was mad at Rafe for putting Lindsey in danger, and claimed he hadn’t meant she should spend time with Rafe. Conner and Rafe fought, and Rafe ended up punching Lindsey in the eye.
Lucas told her that Conner had had Rafe reassigned, and the Elders had wanted Brittany to match with Daniel. Lindsey told Conner that Rafe got a tattoo of her name.
Mason and Bio-Chrome appeared and took Lucas, Kayla, and Conner with their hands tied. Lindsey wondered if Rafe had tipped them off, wanting Conner out of the way. HOW could she think that?? She sucked! Rafe left in wolf form to get a better view of the mercenaries and their Rottweilers, and Lindsey later realized he’d gone in wolf form to draw the dogs away from her as she fled. She attributed her earlier disloyal thought to fear taking over. She was so wishy washy over Conner and Rafe, and then could believe something like this of Rafe! Get it together, girl!
Lindsey realized they’d put a tracker on Rafe’s motor bike, and that’s how they’d found their hidden lair. It was also her idea to have it place it on a rabbit so they’d go on a wild goose chase.
Lindsey was by herself in the woods and heard someone coming up. She hid behind the tree with a branch and swung it at the person, who turned out to be Rafe, but at least she was strong enough to grab something as a weapon and actually use it.
They were going out to follow the group, to see where the lab was, and Lindsey set the rule that whatever they felt for each other, they had to put it on hold and focus on saving their friends. Then in the next breath she’s saying she doesn’t want to sleep alone! Mixed messages!
She made contact with Conner just to let him know help was on the way. She told Rafe that when this was all over she wanted to go to a fancy restaurant and have the best meal of all time. A minute later Rafe said he thought it was the guy who was supposed to have commitment issues, and as much as she appreciated the lighthearted banter, she kept quiet because it felt wrong to joke at this time. Didn’t she just joke?? She was all over the place!
Rafe, before he left to shift in wolf form and draw the dogs away, said “Ah, hell, I can only be so good,” and kissed her.
Lindsey and Conner rode away on the motor bike and a Rottweiler bit her thigh and she was shot in the shoulder and the bullet went through to Conner. She was out of it for a bit and slept through her 17th birthday which sucked. Her mom encouraged her to choose Conner because Rafe was wrong for her.
Conner had given her some of his blood.
I was so irritated with her when she chose Conner, made her choice, telling him she’d already made her choice because when she’d looked back on her life, he was always there. She loved him, something she’d never said.
Brittany asked if she loved Conner enough and Lindsey asked if Brittany loved him and she said it didn’t matter. Lindsey was the only girl he noticed. She was going to take things into the 21st century, and go down as the legendary she-wolf, start a new trend.
She told Rafe that she was choosing Conner. He told her to think about what she could have had when she’s with him, and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around him and got into the kiss, because it was the last one they’d have. She said goodbye and walked away and he didn’t come after her and said was all “That said it all,” because she knew Conner would have come after her. Screw her! She led him on and was kissing him the whole time and then just flips and changes her mind with no warning and then judges him not coming after her. She sucked!
She was with Conner preparing and then Rafe showed up and challenged him. They started fighting in wolf form, and she realized Rafe was her mate. She chose him and saw love in his eyes, but no loss in Conner’s. She wondered what it meant that he’d accepted the challenge and then walked away. Was she seriously still judging?!
Lindsey told Conner that Brittany liked him and he said don’t even go there. She said there’s someone for him and he said he’s going to go girlfriend-less for a while. She said oh don’t do that, there’s someone for you. He said we’ll see, but it sure isn’t going to be Brittany. She didn’t say anything, knowing that Brittany could be pretty stubborn, and if she wanted Conner, and if she wanted Conner, she didn’t think he stood a chance. That made it seem like Conner didn’t have any say in the matter, so wrong.
Lindsey was worrying about Brittany. They convinced her not to, and she couldn’t even remember why she’d ever doubted that Rafe was her mate. She considered Conner to be her first love, just not as deep as what she felt for Rafe.
I really didn’t like the foreshadowing as the author wrote that little did she realize at the time that some enemies could come from within. You don’t do that, especially at the end of a book.

- I preferred Kayla as a protagonist. Lindsey wasn't as feisty or spirited and I missed that.
- The love triangle thing. I know that I normally hate love triangles. Who doesn't when they don't have a point? This, surprisingly, kind of needed the love triangle. It was important to the development of Lindsey's character - to see her progress from the safe and expected relationship she had with Connor to her "own" relationship with Rafe. The fact that she cheated on Connor - more than once, more than twice - was hard to swallow. I am too much of a puritan that way, I just don't like cheating, even if it is "for love". However, in the end it all worked out how I hoped it would and it just kind of worked.
- Connor and Rafe were a little stereotypical. Blonde- and black-haired, good and "bad boy", sweet and caring vs brooding and mysterious... you get the idea. Boring!
- I actually really like Rafe though.
- Poor Brittany!
- Where was Lucas in this? We barely saw him and I wanted more friendship-bonding time between Kayla and Lindsey in this.
Overall, this book is great for a fluffy, light read. It isn't written well. It doesn't have a fantastic plot. The characters are a little clichéd. The romance is only okay. Somehow it managed to keep me entertained though and I surprisingly enjoyed it.
Luna Llena (Los Guardianes Ocultos #2), Rachel Hawthrone.
Entonces, I am a little bias.
10/10, he got me giggling.
I was honestly rooting for Rafe from the beginning, even if I felt bad for Connor. I loved whenever I come across Rafe's and Lindsey's moments together, you can practically feel the intensity in the air and boy, it's definitely intense.
Full Moon starts after Moonlight, which i appreciate very much. It was refreshing to see Kayla's and Lucas's interaction. I feel like proud parents, looking over their growing child.
I was frustrated at Lindsey, if I'm honest. I think with Kayla's hints of 'it hits you like a bat', it should have been already obvious that Rafe's her mate but then again, I understood that the burden of already having someone claimed you and declaring his love to you every now and then, it must've been difficult.
Mason, mason, mason. How annoying is that guy. I've never wanted someone to be so dead. I am hoping that somehow Mason is going to do something really dumb and gets himself killed.
