Amazing Machines

Super Submarines

Rate this book
This adventurous picture book is the tenth title in this critically acclaimed series for toddlers by the poet Tony Mitton and the illustrator Ant Parker. Young readers climb aboard a super submarine with Mouse, Rabbit, and Bird and learn what submarines do, how they do it, what makes them go down, and how they come back up again. Appealing artwork complements the lively rhyming text, and there is a helpful illustrated glossary of technical words at the end to help build vocabulary and identify what's what in super submarines!

A very child friendly non fiction book, teaching children the insides and outs of submarines! A great way of making non fiction engaging

At first glance, you might think this is a silly book about animals operating a submarine. Perhaps you might even think there is little accurate information in this book because of the outrageous illustrations, but you would be wrong!
Yes, there are animals walking on two feet and dressed in uniforms operating this 'submarine', but there is a ton of accurate, nicely-labeled information about various parts of a submarine. If you have an early reader or younger reader who enjoys books about big machines--this is a great add to your collection.

"A submarine must have a crew to run it night and day. The crew needs living quarters, where they eat and rest and play." Although the language is mostly accessible for my first grader, we enjoyed bits like this because we were able to learn (yet) another meaning for the word "quarters". The back page even has a glossary detailing some submarine parts.

This is part of a 'machines' series and I think would make a nice addition to any classroom library to spark conversation and interest in machinery topics.

Gara-gara Mika suka lagu Yellow Submarines, dia senang banget lihat buku dengan tema sama. Cumaaaa harganya bikin saya jantungan.
Akhirnya ketemu buku kapal selam kuning yang lain pas obralan. Lumayan cuma sepersepuluh harga buku yang tadi.
Ini review apa curhat sih #eh.

Great way to learn more about submarines. My one, very small complaint, is that I wished when they talked about going deep into the dark water that they illustrated that a bit darker so it looked different than the rest of the book.

A little too detailed for the age it's pitched at? My children 2 & 4, both quickly lost interest in the story.

Super Submarines is a great book to help children learn about the crew, where they sleep, how the submarine can go down so far down into the water and come back up, how they steer, and how they can see when they are below the water. Great glossary in the back with descriptions of the submarine and also different types of submarines.

My 4-year-old likes the books in the "Amazing Machines" series. They are short, rhyming, and teach small things about the "machine".

I liked it for the detailed information about subs, but it's didn't appeal to my daughter. Good gift for a boy, though.
