Romantic suspense always my go-to read on a hectic day or to get me out of the book slump or in between heavier books, it's always entertaining, easy-to-read, fun, and steamy and there's no exception with this one, it's a fun easy-to-read book
What I like: - the setting, it's in arctic, so I can feel the bone freezing weather and it's pretty scary to imagine stuck there with murderer. - the mystery, trying to figure out the motive is fun. - the romance, it's a bit friends to lovers and it's pretty sweet. - all the dogs, loveeee those wonderful huskies, even though I wished there's more action with those dogs.
What I don't like: - the repetitions, some things told over and over again. - some just doesn't make any sense, for example it's a dangerous situations but they didn't lock the door, it's bothering me. - the plot, it's just not my fav.
Recommended: if you're looking for a fast-paced easy-to-read entertaining romantic suspense read, go for this series.
Lisa and Rogan have a very complex history, neither have all the details but this time together, surrounded by frozen tundra, enables them to finally have a conversation, put all the pieces on the table and build a complete picture, a picture that gives them closure they didn't know they needed. It also allows them to acknowledge and act on the sparks that have always been there. It is sweet seeing them move from a push/pull type banter to finally admitting their feelings and allowing themselves to fall. Add in the dangers of mother nature, the mysterious attacks, missing people and unexplained sabotage and it appears Lisa has a target painted on her back...but why? Tempers may be heating up but the weather is not and the Shadow Recon Team are fighting in every front to keep the base safe.
This suspenseful adventure is the second book in the series. Makes me shiver just thinking about the frozen landscape. There is a lot of crazy stuff going on. A mystery that keeps you guessing with a little bit of sexy on the side. He flashed her a bright grin. “A holiday in the South Pacific when this is over?” She appreciated the change of subject, absolutely loving the idea. “The two of us?” “
I could not stop once I started reading this book. The setting of this book is different because it takes place in the Attic in very cold weather. Rogan is part of the the Shadow Recon Team and is there to find out who is murdering people at the military base. He is also part of the International Training Camp project (Training Camp) where several people from different countries have been killed.
There is suspicion and chaos among the Artic Training Camp and Rogan is there to put fresh eye on the murders and the environment. Lisa , Nurse, brought to Dr. Sydney in Medical Clinic and to assist to figure out who are committing murders. Lisa and Rogan have a past which brings them closer together and everyone seems to notice their attraction.
The scientists from the Scientific Camp gets more in involved in this book. Mysterious accidents occurs at the Scientific Camp causing the Scientists to be brought into the Military base and end up sharing quarters with the Trading Camp. More murders and accidents occurs. Does the Commander get replace? Why can't Rogan, Mountain, & Magnus find the murder? Or, do they? Is this Camp Jinxed?
It helps to have read the first book, but you can enjoy this book by itself. Dale Mayer gives what you whats needed to help you understand what has occurs up to the present.
I received a free copy of this for an honest review. I recommend this book because you will find a well crafted suspenseful romance and you won't be disappointed. If you enjoy Action & Action, Military Romance, Mysteries, and Suspense Romance books, you don't want to miss this book.

This is the second book in the Shadow Recon series and although it is a standalone I urge reading the books in sequence, Dale Mayer's series tend to have a storyline that runs through the whole series but each book has a storyline of its own making each book enjoyable. Strange happenings at the International, multi disciplinary Arctic Training Camp has called for urgent action, Rogan has been sent by Mason to assist Magnus and Mountain, they need answers and they need them fast. People are missing both from the military camp and the nearby scientific camp, one of the missing men is Tegan, Mountains younger brother, people are dying, some murdered some from hypothermia, or is it ? Who is sabotaging the generators and why ? does the nearby Eskimo village hold any clues ? does the danger lie with the scientists or is there a traitor in the military camp ? Lisa is a nurse who applied for the Arctic training but her nursing skills were needed to help Sydney, the camp doctor. It was quite a shock when Rogan found that Lisa had been shipped in to the camp, they had history, she had been married to his best friend but things didn't work out and he blamed her but it wasn't long before they became close, they had a lot in common and because of the danger to them all he would protect Lisa. This is a nail biting suspense thriller, the freezing cold, the biting wind, the wetness but also the beauty of the Arctic Tundra are palpable, the wonderful dog teams are a bonus. I am now looking forward to the next book in the series.

Tensions are high when Rogan arrives, everyone is suspicious and really just want to leave. So much has happened, the drug issue, fires and burns, deaths, missing people, hypothermia. It's all happened and far too often for comfort.
Lisa Whelan was here for training, but since she's a trained nurse she's been assigned to help Sydney. She really wants to do some of the training she's been sent to do and since the clinic isn't busy at the moment, she is able to take advantage of it once the Colonel agrees. Unfortunately, a trainee gets chilled badly and she is in the clinic again.
On Sentry duty, Rogan gets the sense something's wrong at the Scientist's Base Camp. Magnus confirms they are having generator issues and not for the first time. The two of them head out to help. The generator has many issues, but they get it running and the scientists face joining them at the camp instead of maintaining it.
When the generator goes out, sabotage is suspected and confirmed. Someone was lurking outside Lisa's door that night and then another person goes missing. On the search, Magnus and Rogan go to the scientist's camp.
Nothing like having things turn to crap, but they do manage to get the four scientists that were in life threatening condition out. The remaining two, Anna and Myles and two missing scientists are now a priority. Then Myles goes missing and ends up being found with a local hunting group, feverish and cold.
Nothing is making sense. Rogan and Lisa's friendship turns to romance even as things escalate.
Plenty of danger, more suspicions, romance and a touch of sizzle.
I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 staring Magnus and Sydney. The book was my first Dale Mayer book but it won't be my last. I was planning on buying and reading this book when it became available and was excited for the chance to read it early for a review. In book 1, we get a sense of the chaos surrounding the military camp. That chaos continues in book 2.
The scientists at a nearby camp become more important in this book and present us with the mystery for Rogan and Lisa to solve. They were an interesting couple as she was once married to his best friend. While you don't get the sense they were pining for each, you do get a connection between them. They were a good couple and mostly a solid couple. Lisa was a little too soft which is my only complaint. I enjoyed Sydney and Magnus being part of the story.
I own a Shorkie dog so I can't review a book with dogs without mentioning the dogs. It was nice to learn that the dogs shot in book 1are doing well and continue to provide emotional support for the team. I know those 2 dogs have a good life with Joe but I hope they end up going home with the main couples.
Finally, I know more books are coming. We are left with a lot of questions. This book like book 1 solved one small mystery but the camp is still in turmoil and we still don't know the big bad. I hope we learn more about Mountain and his brother.
This book is recommended as is book 1 in this series. I am going to find the first book Mason appears in to get his story. I suspect it will be interesting.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is book 2 of the series; you really should read book 1, Magnus (excellent), before reading this one.
Several nations are holding joint training sessions for cold weather survival and rescue. However, it's turning into a cluster-whoops of accidental deaths (or are they?), missing people (or are they?), drugged people, and murdered people. Yikes!
Rogan is sent there as a help to Magnus and the ongoing investigations. A group of scientists nearby also add a monkey-wrench into the works.
It's clear that something has gone severely wrong with the coordination/management of the station, as they have trouble with their generator, and their food supply gets low. People are on edge about the deaths and missing people already, and now are worried about either freezing or starving; or worse yet, running out of coffee, quelle horreur!
Lisa, new nurse, joins the station. Turns out she has some history with Rogan: when they were much younger, just out of high school, Lisa married Rogan's best friend, but the marriage didn't even last a year. Their romance is one of those where everyone else sees it except them, as they try to pretend they don't mind being in the friend-zone.
It was very exciting - so many things happening, so many mysteries. Different personalities mesh and clash. The author has you guessing for most of the book. I also learned a lot about hypothermia, brrr!
My main complaint would be that the one thing that was solved was pretty much a new issue, and the (several) issues not solved in the first book got very little page time in this book. This series are not truly standalone books, as there are lots of loose ends flopping around waiting for the future books. Even though I read Magnus shortly before reading this, I would have liked to see a few more hints here and there of what happened to the characters from Magnus that are still there in this book.
One of the best parts is the husky sled dogs, their friendliness and usefulness. And who can resist hunky alpha guys who like to cuddle with the dogs?.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving this review, which is my own true and independent opinion.
So the saga continues. This seems to be a mystery within a mystery, or a few mysteries that are intertwined. I am not really sure which one fits best.
Rogan and Lisa were the "romantic" couple in this book. I didn't feel much heat, but definitely friendship with movement toward more. Both characters were likable and fairly easy going. They had an interesting history.
I think this book would be too confusing to read as a stand alone. Imho, all the characters in the book seemed to be confused, lol. There was so much going on that continued from previous incidents. For example Mountain's initial reason for being at the camp didn't spring from Rogan and Lisa's story.
I didn't understand why Mountain, Rogan, and Magnus couldn't share all the info they had. It made me wonder if the colonel was privy to the bits and pieces of information being discovered? It was interesting that all three men reported information back to Mason. Did they know they were separately reporting to Mason? And then I wondered what the deal was with Ted? Was he reporting to Mason, the colonel, both, or someone else?
One of the mysteries in the book was resolved. When the culprit appeared, the guilty party was kind of obvious. As to what is going on in the camp, finding the missing people, dealing with the unsolved murders, or discovering a motive for anything happening there is anyone's guess.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.
“Rogan” is book two of the Shadow Recon series and I highly recommend that you read Book 1 “Magnus” first. THERE IS A LOT GOING ON like; missing men, murdered soldiers, a snipper injuring people and sleigh dogs, sabotage, and now there is trouble at the independent scientific compound a short distance from the base. This is supposed to be an international cold weather joint training mission but with all the “accidents” and interruptions most of the other countries have pulled their people. Russia has lost several of their soldiers and they are not happy. In this story Rogan arrives to put fresh eyes on the mysterious happenings at the base: Is the commander doing his job? Is the culprit from inside the base or from the native villagers outside the base? WHY? Rogan will partner with Magnus, Mountain, and Dr. Sydney to look into these dangerous and deadly occurrences. RN Lisa has recently been assigned to help Dr. Sydney but when she’s not needed, Lisa will participate in the cold weather training. Rogan knows Lisa from the past when he was a friend of her ex-husband but now Rogan is interested in getting to know Lisa as more than a friend. In “Rogan”, the mysterious accidents at the scientific lab are solved but they are no further along in solving the mysteries at the military post. I received a free advanced copy of this story from Booksprout and this is my thoughts. Linda
Continuing mysteries and excitement in this second story for this new series located in the brutal arctic. Rogan gets up close and personal to the untrusting people in the training camp. He as well as Magnus and Mountain try to gain the trust of the people to get any information they can to help solve the mysterious and deadly events surrounding this camp.
I love the location of the military training camp. Nothing like having all sorts of physical as well as mental challenges to keep things interesting when it’s bitterly cold and blowing snow outside. I have a soft spot for the mush dogs and their handler, Joe, who is determined to keep his dogs safe and out of whatever danger is going on. I also like how Magnus and Rogan have befriended the 2 dogs that were previously injured and give them a little extra loving attention.
I would be nervous for Lisa’s safety except she seems pretty aware of herself and has a brave and determined attitude. Her connection to Rogan goes way back and he is smart to keep tabs on her and protect her when his gut tells him something is going on involving her.
This story has many twists and turns to keep you engaged and wondering about the next surprise. No clue who the culprit(s) is, but then the fun is beginning in this series! Great story!
This is book two in The Shadow Recon Series and it is Rogan and Lisa’s story. Rogan had arrived at the arctic training camp to try and help find out what is going on and also find the missing people but chaos and trust issues are making things even more complicated. Lisa had been assigned to help in the medical clinic at the arctic training camp only to realise just how bad things are and trust is the biggest issue especially for a newcomer like herself but she has a job to do and determined to do it regardless of how uncomfortable she feels. Rogan and Lisa have history as she used to be married to his best friend but Rogan is determined to protect and keep her safe and the more time that they spend together the closer they become but with everything that is happening they will all have to keep there guard up if they are to stand a chance of staying alive to see if they have a future together. There seems to be more questions than answers and the twists and turns keep coming and you have to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next and I couldn’t put this book down. I definitely recommend that you read this book and you will not be disappointed and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.
(3.5) As this series progresses each book is a mini mystery within the long arc of the major mystery. Dale does that in several series and it works well. For some reason this is a little harder for me. I think because of the need to know. I would think Magnus, Mountain and Rogan would share info and it was limited. They are the same team, sent by Mason, so this threw me a bit. Love the mushing aspect! It is so understandable the tension and friction when multi national exercises and training is going and major issues are happening. This series takes place in Alaska and the weather is throwing its hat in the ring too! Love the mystery. I was trying to wrap my head around it and as soon as the culprit appeared for this book I knew who it was. Wasn't sure how or why. I enjoyed Lisa and Rogan getting reacquainted in this harsh world. Always providing hope. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #rogan #shadow recon #dalemayer #valleypublisingltd #booksprout
Action packed plot full of excitement and suspense in a complexity of twists and fabulous characters. Missing people, snow, ice and storms all make for a tense but gripping story. Fast paced and some romance added to break up some of the friction and worry. What a scary but beautiful setting for mystery, murder and training. What should be teams doing ice training from various military and different countries has turned into a fight for survival while also searching for the missing and trying to find murderers, yes there is more than one of both. I'm loving this new series even while while reading virtually on the edge of my seat and often screaming silently "No! Don't do that!" Or "You don't want to do that!" I so want Mountain to find Teagon. I am fully invested in these characters solving everything and getting home safe, never to venture back to the Arctic. It's exhausting sometimes being a reader.
Rogan is back in the Arctic military camp providing training to international militaries on how to cope and do their jobs in this climate. Lisa is in the US military and learning survival skills in the Arctic when she is pulled to assist the doctor in the the clinic as Lisa is a nurse.
People are still missing and Rogan is helping Magnus, another military man, find the missing people. However, the generator in the scientists camp is malfunctioning so Magnus is pulled to fix it which is happening more frequently. The scientists are found unconscious and rushed back to the military doctor's office where four are airlifted out. Two are doing well and two were out collecting data and have not checked in. Search and rescue are sent out again adding two more missing people to their search.
Lots of strange happenings in this new series. An enjoyable read.

This is the second book in the Shadow Recon series by Dale Mayer. A shadow recon team is sent to investigate accidental deaths (or foul play) and missing men during joint military training. Since it would be suspicious if Mason sent a group of men to investigate, the men are arriving one at a time. This book sees Rogan arriving at camp and running into Lisa, an old friend. While Rogan and Lisa become close, Rogan has his work to do. The generators at the scientist’s camp keep breaking down. So, Magnus and Rogan are helping to keep the generator going. They aren’t sure if it’s just an old generator or if someone is tampering with it. When the team of scientists are almost killed, they know it’s sabotage and the search for the killer is on. I love Dale Myer’s books. Each story is fresh and original. I just want to keep reading the series to see what she’s cooked up next.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Rogan arrives at the arctic training camp in the midst of near chaos. There's been multiple so-called accidents along with men who have gone missing and others who are dead. Lisa's also new to the camp as a nurse who has been brought in to help the doctor, Sydney. Rogan and the others who are investigating become frustrated because every time they find some answers more questions arise. In the middle of it all, Lisa and Rogan connect. They have known each other for a while, but now the sparks fly between them.
This is the second book in what's shaping up to be a fantastic series. It was well-written with well-rounded characters and a fast-paced plot. I loved the chemistry between Lisa and Rogan, but I also enjoyed their friendship. This thrilling read will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. Full of intrigue and suspense, this story will keep you engaged. I was hooked from beginning to end. I highly recommend both book and series which I think is best read in order.
Rogan is the second book in the Shadow Recon series by Dale Mayer. Rogan has returned to the artic training camp to help out and hopefully discover who is causing all the issues. Lisa signed up to go through the training at the camp but soon finds herself pulled from training to help in another area. Lisa is a nurse and was brought in to help Dr. Sidney in the medical clinic. There are so many issues going on at the artic training camp, most people want to leave due to all the issues that have come up. People are missing, there has been some deaths, kitchen fire, distrust and everyone is on edge. To add to the trouble the scientist at the science center are having generator issues and a couple of scientist have gone missing. With every thing already going on what is going to happen next and who will be the next person to go missing, be injured or worse. I loved this book, the story is original and the characters are amazing.
Like most of Dale's series each book is a stand alone but there is a underlying mystery that connects the entire series so I would highly recommend that you read the series in order.
In this latest addition Mason has sent Rogan to try to get to the bottom of what is making men be either missing or dead at the multi nation Arctic training camp and it isn't just military but scientific staff disappearing. To make matters worse the brother of one of their own is among the missing But imagine Rogan surprise when he discovers one of the nurses Lisa is there and they have history he blames her for leaving one of his best friends But soon he is invested in keeping her safe and learns that like always there is more than one side to the story Can they get to the bottom of what is happening and can they build a future You will have to read to see
Book two in this new series sees the lasting effects of book one and the continued search for the killer. Tempers are high and everyone is suspicious. Even the scientist camp are having problems. Loved Rogan from the start. He was the character who was only on a need to know and it was as if he didn't really need to know much at all.
Lisa is the new nurse along with Sidney, and it's only a matter of time before she gets involved too. We got some back story on Lisa and how she knew Rogan but we also found that he didn't really know his best friend at all. They definitely had chemistry together but we're both denying it. As usual we had Mountain in the background doing all he can to find his brother.
Can't wait for the next book. This series is getting so good.
This is the 2nd book in the Shadow Recon series written by Dale Mayer. This is Rogan and Lisa's story. Strange things are happening in Arctic Training Camp! People are missing both from the scientific camp and the military one. This calls for urgent action, so Rogan is sent by Mason to assist Magnus and Mountain, they need answers and they need them fast. One of the missing men is Tegan, Mountains younger brother, people are dying, the question is why? Lisa is a nurse who applied for the Arctic training but her nursing skills were required by the camp doctor. This is where these two meet once again. They have history that needs to be sorted before either can move on. This story has suspense, twist and turns, and beautiful dog teams. ENJOY!.

Rogan by Dale Mayer Shadow Recon Series Book Two Rogan Matlock has returned to the Arctic training center to help figure out what is happening. People are missing, some are dying, and at least one has been murdered. But, unfortunately, now it seems things are being sabotaged as well…like the generator, a much needed piece of equipment in this cold environment. Lisa Walker was hoping to train while at this camp, but she’s needed for her nursing skills. Seems the previous nurse turned out to be a bad egg. And it’s good to be around Rogan again. He once was her ex-husband’s best friend, but she hadn’t seen him in a long time. Each story has its romance, but each book’s main storyline and mystery continue. Another well-written, page-turning series. **Mild Sexual Content https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
In the Arctic permafrost where a joint task force from dozen countries, scientists and with locals nearby Rogan rejoins Magnus and Maverick Mountain to work on the mystery of the missing people, especially as Teagan is Mountains brother and known to Mason. Then it gets worse and it becomes very clear that there are multiple murderers and separate motivations to distract them.
I enjoyed this story with all the action, danger and drama. The backstory around Lisa and the way that sparks were flying around them added a great new dimension. The mystery of who the murderer was in this book was a surprise to me as I hadn't suspected them. Well written and easy to read.

ROGAN is a sensational suspense romance . I really enjoyed reading this story . It's definitely an on the edge of your seat story . Rogan is the latest addition to the secret investigation at the Artic training camp . It's a mess with missing people , mysterious kitchen fires , murder and mayhem . Lisa is to assist Dr. Sydney in the Clinic . It's not enough trouble going on then the Scientist camp have problems and need medical help . Lisa and Rogan have history so when Lisa finds herself in danger Rogan steps in to protect her and stop the threat . This story is I highly recommend taking the time to read. Dale Mayer has done it again! I know when I pickup one of her books I’m in for an emotional, suspenseful, feels and steamy ride. Within the first few pages I was gripped and had to know what was going to happen next. I have a very hard time putting this one down. It really did take a hold of me. I got absolutely nothing, I’m mean absolutely nothing done the day I picked this one up lol but was it so worth it. If I could give this one more than the 5 stars I would absolutely would. I think this is now I favourite ever book I’ve had the pleasure of reading by Ms Mayer. Definitely pick this one up. You won’t be able to put it down. Grab your copy straight away. You won’t regret it. I promise you. Happy reading everyone
The second in the Shadow Recon series and the action continues. Lisa is brought in to help out the doctor because of events in the previous book. The mysteries are still happening and now there are new ones. Rogan is there to help Mountain and Magnus figure out what is going on. Rogan and Lisa have known each other a long time. There is a history there and some misunderstanding but all of that is pushed away with the scientists camp now having problems. Is it just broken equipment or something more sinister? And two scientists have disappeared now too. Just what is happening in the Arctic? Great story, real page-turner with some interesting twists.

Rogan and Lisa arrive at the training centre, Rogan to help with the investigation of what is going on and Lisa as a nurse. They both know each other from way back and when strange occurrences start to happen that involve Lisa, Rogan steps forward to help protect her. When a mishap happens at another location, it’s all hands on deck to find out what happened before more deaths occur. A good read with a bit of steam, pasts revealed and good characters. I liked Rogan and Lisa, no drama, no insecurities and two “friends” who finally see what everyone else is seeing. The mystery isn’t solved yet as to the missing men and the murders and now there are more questions that will need extra hands on deck to help. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Although the main story is a standalone story, the underlying mystery is clearly a continuance of the story started in the first book of the series. This is not a deterrent, because you WANT to know how that story ends, but it IS something to consider when starting the series in the middle. The new characters develop thru out the book, while the established ones just improve :-) Enjoyed it very much, and looking forward to the next story. I usually am not a fan of continuing a story in the next book, and will avoid it every chance I get, but this series is so well written, that it is not a bad thing, just something to look forward to to puzzle out, because the main story starts and ends as expected.

Rogan is the 2nd installment in the Shadow Recon series and should not be read as a standalone. There is no real re-cap of past events, no introduction of the new characters and their connection to others, no setting the scene. The only time the Maverick team is even mentioned is in the blurb. Rogan and Lisa are both likeable characters, but I didn't feel a spark between them at all, so I wouldn't call this a romance either, even though they do find their personal happy end. There are lots of different things going on, including murder and mayhem and the mystery is to be continued.

This is the second book in the Shadow Recon series. An Arctic adventure where a few countries have joined in a place where they can test and improve their skills in this icy environment. This is a dangerous undertaking at best, however, suddenly fatalities and a missing man became part of it. Then more experts join the story to solve multiple mysteries. So, danger, intrigue, mystery, honor and love make this new series a winner in my book. No pun intended! It was snowing at our home as I read this book and as I write this review so I might be really in the mood for blowing snow scenes! Either way, I'm hooked.
