The shadows of the past are always at your heels, lurking, no matter how hard you try to outrun them.
Laney’s life had been far from easy. Determined to leave her troubled past behind, she finds herself working as a cocktail server on the Las Vegas strip, thanks to her cousin Mindy. Laney only cares to find peace in her new life, so the last thing on her mind is men— in her experience, men hardly bring peace. When the ruggedly handsome VIP, Kel Cohen, sets his sights on her, however, her hope for tranquility is threatened.
Laney is certain Kel doesn’t have a problem getting women, so she doesn’t understand what he could possibly want with her. He is the epitome of what she needs to stay away from, but she finds herself drawn to him. Sure, he fights for a living, but is he truly prepared to fight through the shadows of her past to have her?
A nice MMA sports romance read. I liked Kel and Laney, however I wanted to spend more time with them as a couple. In the epilogue everything fell into place too nicely for me and Kel and Laney’s ending was short and rushed.
Melissa Anderson pulls you in from the beginning and provides insight into how a MMA fighter (Kel) can win in the ring and still be gentle and sensitive in his personal life. Read how this enables Laney to ultimately overcome her past, results in a HEA and whar happens to Laney's younger brother.
4/5 Laney- a waitress who moved to Vegas to be with her cousin. She's emotionally strong, but physically weak. As she works for a VIP table, she meets Kel.
Kel- a MMA fighter who is on a break between fights. He's thoughtful, strong and just who Laney needs.
This book also focuses on abuse (verbal and physical), a twisted family and a need for self defense.
I loved the progression of this story but at times it seemed too easy. I understand attraction but would you really give out your number to a hot man that you just met? Then after that one [short] conversation let him pick you up at your house?
"We didn’t make sense, and I knew it from the start”

I devoured this book in one sitting. Let me start by saying Kel is one hot book boyfriend. Wow, the tension between Laney and Kel heated up my kindle. Trauma and abuse of the past has left Lanie feeling unworthy of the wonderful life Kel can offer her...unworthy of his love. It will take a lot of courage to face the past and rise above it. But some things are just worth fighting for. And this beautiful novel by Melissa Anderson is a must read!
This book hooked me with the first sentence and held on to the very last. Laney and Kel were from two different worlds, but he was also the one thing she feared most - a man who used his fists to fight his battles. This story might be fictional, but to many, domestic violence is a reality. This is a story about love, but it is also about growing, healing, and rising above the hand you were dealt in life. And these are all things worth fighting for. A wonderful, heartwarming read that I can honestly recommend to all the romance readers out there.
This book covers some heavy topics but it was done so beautifully. The love story wasn't just about a couple, but about Laney learning her own self-worth after trauma. Kel is a swoon-worthy hero and he grows in his own way throughout the book. This was a sports romance but that part wasn't heavily focused on. Definitely worth the read!
The book is a good, and enjoyable sports romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I very rarely write reviews, I just rate. But I just had to write one for this book. I was not disappointed! I couldn't put this one down, you’ll be drawn in right from the beginning!
Worth Fighting For has a little bit of everything - an exciting Las Vegas backdrop, a ridiculously sexy leading man, and a heroine’s journey of self-worth and finding the strength that she had taken from her years ago. The chemistry between Kel and Laney is one fire, and my heart may do a little pitter-patter for Kel, especially in the chapters told from his POV. Melissa knocked this one out of the park - I cannot wait to see what she’s got coming next!
This was a cute romance between a professional MMA fighter and a shy, small town girl making a living in Vegas. They are drawn toward each other from the beginning and the pace of their relationship development is believable. Spice level was lacking for me, maybe about a 1.5/5.
However, I had a hard time liking Laney. She was sweet, but had serious confidence issues and lied constantly about how she was feeling. The author did give her a past that would explain her hesitation for a relationship, but I was shocked she kept doubting herself and lying to Kel with how well he treated her. I loved Kel’s character and he made me enjoy the story more than I would have. He did his best to include Laney in his life, went out of his way for her multiple times, never said or did anything to make her feel unworthy, gave her space when she needed it, but she still took forrrrrever to overcome her issues. I’m really not sure what about her drew him in.
Overall, it was a decent romance with a happy ending. Just not one of the better ones I’ve read recently.

Running away from your past isn't always easy. It has a way of catching up with you.
Laney escapes her small town life to settle as a waitress in Las Vegas, thanks to her cousin Mndy. She is shy with no confidence at all. No surprises there, in view of the verbal and physical abuse that she endured through her step dad and her mother turning a blind eye. She is settling in her new life when her brother gives her bad news about what's happening back home.
Kel is an MMA fighter. He is popular in Vegas, but Laney is clueless about his identity. When she gets herself in a spot of bother, he goes to her rescue. He develops a sense of protection towards her and he is attracted to her. Will he be able to help her get away from her past?
It's an OK read where Laney has far too many internal debates. She is also quick to accept Kel's invitation. In view of her past, should it have been so easy? Anyway, they become friends and the friendship turns into romance. Despite Laney's reservations, Kel doesn't give up until he gets his HEA. It's an OK read.
I received an eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Laney and Kel are such a sweet couple . He is a MMA fighter and she is a shy small town girl. They couldn’t be more opposite but the chemistry between them is strong and this helps them fight for what they have. There are some deep moments in the book due to Laney’s past but they are well written. I received a copy from Booksirens and leave my review voluntarily.
