And soon, I find myself at Death’s door—literally.

You’ve got to keep a poker face when dicing with Death
This is the 22nd book in the Haven Hollow series. It is a collaboration between HP Mallory and JR Rain. The book falls in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre.
This was a fun book to read. It’s a Spook Society book, so we are seeing the world of Haven Hollow through Darla’s eyes. As Darla originally died in 1920’s America before she was resurrected and given a second chance at life, she speaks with the slang of that era and is still getting to grips with the modern world.
Darla’s return to the living after a century of being dead has not gone unnoticed. Death is curious and wants her for himself. His game is Poker and his price if she loses is her soul. Darla has a day to learn to play well enough to go up against him.
I really enjoy this series. It’s fun. The characters are all really well developed. The world building is lovely and I enjoy the writing style of these authors.
The Haven Hollow series is written from a variety of points of view and features stories from Wanda’s Witchery, Poppy’s Potions, Spook Society, Haven Homes and Remarkable Remedies. They all run in parallel with each other. The reading order so far is:

When you are working for the Spooky Society and one of your best friends comes to you for help. What is a girl to do but go check it out. When Marty comes to Darla to tell her that the ghosts of Haven Hallow are just disappearing and he needs her help to figure it all out. With the help of the detective that is part of her and the help of the vampire dentist Lorcan they are off. What do they find but a hotel on the edge of town where Death is hanging out and he makes Darla an offer she can't refuse. Will she with the help of her friends be able to beat Death at his own game or will she have to be his.
Omg Darla in the book is so much fun to read. She is one sassy lady but when push comes to shove, she will protect everyone that she loves. She has come a long way since we first met her. She has grown and became one of the girls with Poppy and Wanda. She may be strong on the outside, but she really is a squishy marshmallow on the inside. We also get a new character to love or hate Death is a suave debonair man who is the type of man you really want to stay away from. He has an ulterior motive in his mind all the time. Remember you never make a deal with Death. They are such great characters becoming more and more complex with each book.
This is such a fun read, and I am loving that each book is about a different character but the rest of the characters are around to help out when needed. I giggled my way through the book just some of the things that Darla says just makes you laugh out loud. I truly love this series and they are fun to sit down and read on a cool evening. If you want a fun series to read check them out you will not be disappointed,

Ritzy Business is the second book in the Spook Society series (book 22 of the Haven Hollow series) by J.R. Rain and H.P. Mallory. This spin-off is told from Darla’s point-of-view. Darla used to be a ghost who lived with Polly, but Wanda’s wonky blood witch magic turned her back into a real dame. After Marty seeks Darla out about ghosts mysteriously disappearing, she knows she’s the best one to figure out what is going on in Haven Hollow.
She wasn’t expecting, however, to land at Death’s door. It seems that Death has taken up residence in Haven Hollow and he’s here for the ghosts still lingering. Death has taken a shine to Darla, and he’s challenged her. The stakes are high and everyone in Haven Hollow is at risk if she loses. Fortunately, Darla is the vessel for Cain Morgan, and they work this case together, and her friends have her back.
Ritzy Business is another fantastic and fun novel in the Haven Hollow series. Darla's character is great. She’s fun, funny, and I love her 1920’s vernacular. I was fully engaged in Ritzy Business. I loved the story, characters, setting, and writing.

The character development provides history and growth, and the world-building creates a fantastic world to watch the characters do their thing.

The Spook Society has given readers a chance to get to know the character of Darla more in depth. I admit, she was never my favorite but I realized more about her from this book. She wanted to be a star but her life was cut short by someone who claimed to care for her. Now she is acclimating to new relationships with friends, love interests-which seem to be growing, and surrogate family. Darla must challenge Death to rescue the spirits he took from the town. She does so with support and kindness.

I want to start by saying I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Darla is not one of my favorite characters & I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it at all. It was a cute, quick read & actually made me enjoy Darla. Though I did not care for all the slang from the twenties, it didn’t deter me from finishing the book. Overall well written & fun quick side story from the series.

Ritzy Business: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel: (Spook Society) (Haven Hollow Book 22) I am so addicted to this whole series and having all or most of the characters is always such a treat. Darla is hysterical and her story in this installment is intriguing. Surprises are at every corner! Love 💞💖😍💕 the way the characters look out for each other and love one another, amazing friends!!! Definitely recommend the book !!

I love the world built in the Haven Hollow series, but just like in the last book featuring Darla, I’m annoyed with the cutsie slang. Saying bubs, gams, and kisser every single time instead of boobs, legs, or mouth is just completely obnoxious, and I find it taking me out of the story instead of adding to it.
But maybe that is just me…….

Darla’s back!
And while she may not be my top favorite character in the series, she is fun to read about! The story was fast-paced as ever, and kept me interested throughout. Very intriguing, 4.5 stars!

Game with death
Who would said they played a game with death? What kind of games death played and with whom? Is interesting to read the developmental traits of this new character. Totally different from the preconceived ones which makes it a fun read!!!

Oh my goodness!!! A very well written book about Darla, Cain, Talyiah, Henner, and Death!!!! Lorcan, and Wanda are also in it, as are lots of residents of Haven Hollow!!!!

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, fast paced and held my interest. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.

Darla's one of my favs! It took me a minute to connect with her but she is hilarious. The phrases she comes up with and the way her mind works always leaves me giggling. In this installment we get more from Cain and Death comes a knocking. If you haven't started this series yet, you are missing out big time!
