Haven Hollow #23

Pan's Delight (Poppy's Potions, #6)

Rate this book
The cold touch of winter has hit Haven Hollow…

Something naughty is plaguing the mundanes of Haven Hollow lately.

‘Naughty’ as in dancing curses that leave the victim exhausted and even injured, every milk product in town souring for no apparent reason, and elf-knots that are nearly impossible to brush out of your hair…

After deciding these curses are fae created, we call in Prince Reynard, the Prince of the Autumn Court, otherwise known as Fox Aspen.

The only problem? Fox is currently waging his own war with our Chief of Police, Taliyah, who is meant to be Fox’s intended but won’t have anything to do with him or his marriage proposal.

As if that weren’t enough to put us all on edge, Finn is challenging my ability to be a cool, calm, and collected mother. Even though he means well, every time he tries to help someone, he’s left exhausted, pale, and sickly. And I’m getting more and more concerned.

With questions about Finn’s magician abilities, I turn to the only person who can provide answers—a man I haven’t seen in five months but one who has dominated my thoughts every day since.

Alixandre Osmont, the English magician, otherwise known as Andre...

Between trying to decipher who is behind the fae pranks, battling my teenage son, and trying to keep my feelings in check for a certain British magician, I’ve got my hands full and then some.

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

3 stars - pretty good

This wasn't my favorite of the Haven Hollow books. Really not much happened except for the heroine to constantly reiterate "I have a boyfriend". I wasn't happy with the ending either.

Winter is coming! Battle is looming and all is not fair in love and war.

This is the 23rd book in the Haven Hollow series. It is a collaboration between HP Mallory and JR Rain. The book falls in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre.

This book was quite intense compared to previous books in this series. Poppy’s confused feelings about Marty and Andre are thrown into further turmoil when Andre comes back to the Hollow with the possibility of staying long term to tutor Finn in mastering his burgeoning Magician powers. Some story arcs from the beginning of the series are revisited and loose ends are starting to be tied.

I love the way these characters are developed and how they have grown throughout this series. I feel quite invested in what happens to them. The town of Haven Hollow has also grown and changed throughout the series with the introduction of new residents, new businesses and new skills. Every time I think this series might be nearing its end, a curve ball gets thrown in and a new story arc begins. I have a feeling there are several more books to come and I’m quite looking forward to reading them.

The Haven Hollow series is written from a variety of points of view and features stories from Wanda’s Witchery, Poppy’s Potions, Spook Society, Haven Homes and Remarkable Remedies. They all run in parallel with each other. The reading order so far is:

Poppy and the gang are back and trying to figure out why people are getting hurt from dancing or waking up with knots in their hair. With all that going on, Poppy is also trying to deal with Finn's new power and the fact that he is getting exhausted by healing people. He is also your typical teenager with attitude. There is one person that can help her out Andre the magician, will she be able to hang on to her heart and figure out what is going on in Haven Hollow before people really start to get hurt.
Ok, I love these characters very much but this time I really couldn't figure Poppy out. Usually, she is a very strong feisty woman who doesn't let things get to her. This time I felt she was like a teenager who was trying to figure out who she should date. It was a little redundant about her always saying I have a boyfriend all the time. When push comes to shove though she does come through and fight for those she loves. Finn really becomes a teenager and a person in his own right. He does start to grow up and want to help people the way his mom and friends do. We also get the rest of the town back also. Andre is back to help out Finn and maybe fall in love with Poppy. Marty well he is still the good guy that you can count on to help out.
I read this book in an evening, I really like the Haven Hollow series. It is like going home to a small town with great characters that you know and love. With each book we see Haven Hollow change and grow with each new addition to the town. We get to see the characters grow and live. I truly liked this book, but I did have a bit of trouble getting into the story. I felt like it wasn't the best book in the series, but it was still a good story. Overall, I enjoyed this book and can't wait till the next book comes out. Check out the series and laugh your way through the holidays.

Pan’s Delight is another fantastic story in the Haven Hollow series spin-off, Poppy’s Potions. Book six has the mortals in Haven Hollow being harmlessly pranked by what can only be assumed as the fae. The problem is the fae’s definition of harmless doesn’t match what is actually happening. Dancing curses are causing injuries and eating and/or drinking spoiled dairy products can’t be good for the digestive system.

On top of that, Finn’s Magician abilities far exceed anything Poppy expected. His penchant for healing those around him is taking a toll. A toll Poppy is worried about, so she turns to the only person she can… Andre. And her reaction to him when he returns to Haven Hollow is just as strong as it was five months ago.

Poppy is a fun character and her love and devotion for her son is heartwarming. She may be able to mix potions, but even as a Gypsy, Poppy is still human. Despite being human, Poppy is one of the rare mundanes who is fully aware of the supernatural residents. The town of Haven Hollow is mysterious and full of interesting characters. Pan's Delight is full of twists, turns, and unpredictable events. I was on the edge of my seat.

Pan’s Delight is a wonderful sixth book in the Poppy’s Potions series (and book 23 in the Haven Hollows series) by H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain. This writing duo brings interesting stories, intriguing characters, and thought-provoking mysteries to life. The character development provides history and growth, and the world-building creates a fantastic world to watch the characters do their thing.

Oh, and that ending?! Oh Poppy.......

What happened to Poppy?

I liked her in the first few books, but she has become my least favorite of them all (and that’s including Darla the idiot flapper who is as ditzy in her second life as her first). The determined, upbeat, protective mother of the first book has become the flighty, reckless, dimwit of this one. When did Poppy regress to preadolescence? She now has the emotional, mental, and romantic maturity of a 13 year old girl. She put more mental gymnastics into wether she was going to touch Andre’s hand than her son’s obviously declining health. The last 2 books were both too ridiculous for me. Too many grown women acting like children.

Poppy is the most annoying, neurotic, paranoid, wimpy heroine in any of their books. She is always assuming the worst, never waits to actually find out what someone - especially Andre - wants to say and then makes her own conclusions. She denigrates her skills and magic, it's like she feels she'll never be as good as anyone else. What is with her? Someone, maybe Wanda can shake some sense in to her. And so, in this book, she says "yes" to Marty, a man she has NO romantic feelings for and gets engaged. All the while feeling a cosmic, soul level connection to Andre. Can you imagine a marriage where it's like living with your brother? Fix Poppy quickly!

23 books into this series and I'm still very much enjoying it. At first I didn't like bouncing from different characters each book, but now I really like it. Back to the first character, Poppy, in this one. Another great adventure, some new interesting characters and some growth for Finn. I was happy to see the return of Andre. A bit of a sad ending on this one - can't wait for the next Poppy novel because all of us know she isn't making the right choice here and we'll be having some heart-break soon!

I really don’t like Poppy

I can’t decide which I like less. The Poppy books or the Fifi ones. Both of them are weak wishy washy women and I really can’t get into their stories. Poppy wasn’t so bad at first but she gets more annoying each book. But I feel like I miss too much if I skip them. I’m also not a fan of her constantly skipping to the next “better” man. She really needs to figure herself out then work on that.

Havens Hollow is probably my all time favorite series from this duo.

Poppy was the first character readers got to know, so she's always my favorite POV to read.

Being a boy mom isn't always easy and Finn's definitely giving Poppy a run for her money..not always intentionally but that doesn't make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

This is an amazing series and always satisfies! Make sure to dive in!

Another adventure in the hollow has Poppy again in the middle of fae drama. It was nice to see the heir to the winter throne more involved with Fox and a bit accepting of her role. The ending was frustratingly Poppy like. I could literally see Wanda rolling her eyes.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It held my interest and I didn't want to put it down. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is book 23 in the Haven Hollow series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.

Good book overall. Nice progression of the haven hallow series. I always love reading about all the people of the hollow. This book is a little bitter sweet. I’m hoping in the future that Poppy’s story gets a little happier.

well, there was a story

This was a story with a epic ending. I love Poppy and her son. I want them to stay and be apart of this magical town. I know she has all the mixed feelings. The end just made me want to cry. I think the next story is going to be hard on her. I thought this one was. Nope, the next one I might need tissue.
