ehhh. just ehhh. i know that easy readers sometimes leave much to be desired just based on their limited wordability (i know that's not a word)...but YAWN! adapted from screenplay...won't miss not seeing the movie if this is any indication.
These kinds of books drive me crazy, and I'm so glad I'm on my last kid young enough to enjoy easy readers based on TV shows or movies. These books are always irritating for me to read aloud, and the stories are always so dull to me. But F (almost 5) enjoyed the illustrations a lot and kept telling me how pretty the fairies are. She picked this out as one of 5 free books from our local reading room. I tried to encourage some other choices, but I also know it's important to let kids read what they want to read, especially when they're first venturing into easy readers. Still, I'll be so glad when the easy readers are finally behind us for good!
This is an easy reader based on the movie. Since it's written in easy reader style in short, simple sentences leaves a bit out. Words are simple, hardest words are the names. Pages are about 1-3 sentences long, 3-8 word sentences on average. Each page has a picture, a cartoon from the movie. Pictures are bright and cute. Story line is about Thumbelina and her fellow Twillerbees live in a field that's going to be ripped up to build a factory. Thumbelina meets the daughter of the man building the factory and they become friends as Thumbelina tries to convince her to stop the bulldozing. My daughter enjoyed it, and loved reading it on her own.
The beautiful story of thumbelina takes us to another kind of world, where even little ones can do big things. An amazing story for kids that shouldn't be let unread.
