Sometimes, dragons are a girl's best friend.

Aer was my best friend in high school. Okay, I had a huge crush on him. Then he disappeared. But, now he's back and he's in some kind of trouble. He needs my help. I should say no, just on principle, but he's too cute to resist.

Did I mention Aer is a dragon?

Having a dragon for a boyfriend might not be a bad thing. Of course, first I have to help him rescue his brother--and save the Rikashi, an entire race of dragon shifters.

I fear this author's voice just isn't for me. The two leads are likable enough, but the idealistic treatment of their emotions kept me at a distance from really engaging with either one. Still, the ideas are interesting, the pacing good, with most chapters ending on some kind of cliffhanger to keep the momentum going. Some people might have problems with the story being told in 1st person, alternating chapters between Aer's and Jo's, but it's handled deftly.

I started out feeling this was a five star, then lowered to a four star around half way, and well, I'm slightly disappointed since I'd initially really enjoyed the story. This should be classified as a young adult book, hands down. The characters are very sweet, nearly too sweet. I liked the format, with each chapter alternating between the two main character points of view, even though each character voice was so similar at times that I would have to check whther or not I was reading the male or female perspective.

The story began with romance, which evolved into a political/chase type turn. The romance became lost and I found the secondary characters bland but the author created an intriguing world. I was defintiely feeling some Anne McCaffrey influence. :) The best part was the dragons.
