In this ninth installment of the Jerry McNeal Series, Jerry and Gunter are once again on the move. Worried when Doc fails to answer his cell phone, Jerry and his ghostly K-9 companion waste no time heading to Maryland to check on the man who has always put himself before others.
Meanwhile, Fred and Barney tell Jerry of another victim of the Hash Mark Killer. One lying in an irreversible coma only a short distance away.
After Jerry realizes his gift will allow him to reach the woman who is hovering between the realms, he decides to bring in Max to see if, together, they can finally put a face to the Hash Mark Killer.
Will Jerry be able to help the family of the latest victim let her go? Or will she be condemned to spend the rest of her ‘life’ in the equivalent of an above-ground grave?

What a great series! I really love Gunter. Every woman should have a protector like him. This time, Jerry helps a young pregnant woman get away from a lying, cheating, no-good man who karma is just waiting for. Then Jerry and Gunter help out an old service buddy. Doc is usually the guy other people turn to for help; he's always been there for them, no matter what. Only this time Doc is the one in trouble and Jerry is determined to be there for him. As Jerry and Gunter are taking care of all this, they're still heading in the direction of the Hash Mark killer. They've found his latest victim and Jerry, with Max's very reliable help, has come closer to putting a face to the serial killer. They're getting closer all the time. Plus, Max has gotten an offer she and her mother can't refuse. I really love and enjoy this series. I can't wait for the next one. My only complaint is that I read this book to fast and now I have to wait again for the next one.
Listened to the audio book - the audio book edition isn't on goodreads yet to select for doing a review. The story moves along quickly, with newer characters becoming more defined. Each one of these short novels has been a wonderful listening experience.
Jerry and Gunter are still on the trail of finding the elusive 'Hash Mark Killer,' whose preference appears to be for natural red-haired women. The trail has gone cold but Jerry receives a panic call from one of his x-military friends telling him that he cannot get hold of Doc, the man all the platoon soldiers that were under him, could get hold of in the blink of an eye, if they had panic attacks or flashbacks from their past experiences overseas and who is now not answering his cell phone. Jerry decides to make that his mission so phones his new boss Fred to let him & his sidekick Barny, know where he will be heading out to look for Doc. Doc is eventually found but not before Jerry takes a nasty tumble down a cliff side. He calls for assistance, and both are rescued and it just so happens Jerry ends up in the same hospital, only rooms apart from the latest victim of the Hash Mark Killer. She is in a critical unconcious condition. Can Jerry tap into her subunconcious mind using his gift? His friend Max a young girl of 12 years who can connect with his psychy, urges her mother to go with her to find him as she has the overwhelming fear that something is desperately wrong................
Love the characters who are so real. The lead character, Jerry McNeal is easy to imagine as a good-looking explains in great physical shape but with faults that make him seem real.
The storyline is intriguing and so interesting, it really is almost impossible to stop reading.
Here's a man with physic abilities he doesn't understand, a loving, deceased grandma who is still guiding him along the right path, a beautiful German shepherd ghost dog for a partner, some ex bosses who are more like family than friends and of course two pain in the butt government agents to keep him agrivated.
Don't miss this series! Be sure to start with book one.
Closing in on the hash mark killer, but still far away. Max and her mom April show up to help Jerry and find their relationship has deepened and that Jerry’s new job could also benefit and be an option for them. Doc is in trouble, but Gunter, Jerry and Fred all help out, which also allowed us to finally meet Doc and not just hear phone conversations. Seltzer also is present, but helps with a side story that kept Jerry busy for a bit. The government agency is fascinating, says me antics are humorous, and I can’t wait for more of this series.
These cliffhangers are killers. Finally with the help of April and Max there's a break in the case. Max was able to get a description from his latest victim. Unfortunately, this victim is in a coma in the hospital. Along with other side jaunts for Jerry and Gunther this story is exciting, sad, and very entertaining. Great job. Thank you. Can't wait until the Book 10!
Yes this is what I've been waiting for (without knowing I was waiting for it). I'm so glad Max and April have entered the picture again. Jerry is at his best with his sidekick Max and her mother. The threesome, along with a ghostly K9, make a crime fighting team that Remington Steele would envy. The disappearance of his friend Doc was a nice addition and distraction from hunting a serial killer. I'm looking forward to Book 10.
Jerry is being pulled in different directions in this book. He feels Doc is in danger, personal danger. So, Gunter and he out to find Doc who is not answering calls. Along the way, he finds a woman in need of help. And, finally, there is another victim of the killer who is in the hospital. Another quick read with Gunter and Jerry, Max and April.
Awesome series of books with a great storyline. Keep them coming! Jerry the reluctant Psychic coming to terms with his gift and Gunter, the ghostly K-9, are awesome, as are the other recurring characters in the series. If you love mysteries (clean ones too), dogs (especially K-9's), short quick reads with laugh out loud moments, and a believable hero with issues of his own to work through whilst helping both the living and the dead, this series is a must read for you.
The series is really getting more interesting. Jerry has brought in two more people to help. He found the connection through one of them. Who knew? It was so simple. I cannot wait to see how this plays out. They now have a sketch the killer. They also have over 18,000 members of a club to worry about. Only those in the area of the surrounding states need to be followed for being in danger. Keep up the great writing!
WOW, WOW AND MORE WOW!! IT'S INFINITELY UNCANNY HOW MUCH YOU CAN LEARN AN AUTHOR! Actually I believe that some people can see into another perspective about things most of us would not even notice most of the information that is included in these stories! This author is clearly more talented than I've ever talked to. I never dreamed I would ever have a chance at admiring a ghost charmer!!
Have never been into paranormal. Dog brought me so glad
Gunther is the one and only reason I even started this series. I love the characters, especially Gunther. Sorry if I am messing his name up. Memory problems. I wait anxiously for the next book. Never too much of this new insight. Thank you
Yeah I've just finished the just published ninth book in this series and am craving the tenth. Definitely start with the first novel in the series. I'll admit that I wondered in the beginning if it was going to be 'preachy', but got pulled right into people, the suspense, and of course the primo dog. Great series.
I am addicted to reading when it comes to Sherry A. Burton's stories
I am so immersed in reading Sherry A. Burton's Jerry McNeal series. When I finish reading it ends and I am not ready for that. Now I'll wait for the next book in this series. I LOVE READING AND BEING SO INVOLVED WITH ALL OF THE CHARACTERS. I HOPE THESE SERIES KEEP GOING...😊
I love k-9 stories. This one is great! First I love the story line, it has spirits and murder and so many facets of love. Jerry and his ghostly canine, Gunter, are the best. Grabbed me from the first page, and I mean the whole series! I am impatiently waiting for book 10.
Wow I’ve read all 9 books for this series, can’t wait for the next! These may be a “tad tinged” with the likes of Ghost Whisperer but with a male lead, but it has this really cool dog as a backup partner … and a darling girl …. And maybe a love interest. Guess I have to wait for the next installment! Love the books!
The characters are well defined and likable, especially Gunther. Its Amazing what physics can do. I am enjoying Max as well and watching the development of Jerry and April. On to the next book. I'm sure they are close to closing this case I'll miss them all.
The group is growing! No longer just Jerry and Gunter, there’s Fred & Barney, Seidel, and April & Max making for a familiar line-up of characters we’ve come to know and like! The cases continue, with some side tracks just bcoz. Great read. Tho once again, I am, as ever, startled by “to be continued”.
One of the most enjoyable series that I have read.
Although the underlying story is disturbing, the characters are great. I want a ghost dog! The main character is working through some stuff but is surrounding himself with a support group to envy. I will be sad to end the series and will follow the author as I enjoy her writing style.
This is Book 9 in the Jerry McNeal Series. I am still amazed at how much I love this series. Each new book builds the drama and gets you closer to seeing the end result. I can not put these books down. I am not much of a paranormal genre person, but I am so glad I took a chance on this author and series!
Jerry and Gunter are looking for Doc, Jerrys Doctor from the military, in the process Jerry slides down the side of a mountain and is injured. Max knows of his injuries and Max and April go to DC. to find him. While there some more weird stuff is discovered about our ghost hunting friends.
I love all of the books in the Jerry McNeal series! I wish there were hundreds of them! I loved that Max could draw a picture of the killer! And at times the book made me laugh outloud! And I love Gunther especially as he saves people! I would recommend to family and friends!
Another terrific story of Jerry and Gunter with help from Max and her mom April. More support from Gunter helping Max and April avoid being mauled by a Big dog while they were bicycling. Jerry also helps his buddy Doc get into rehab before he collapses. Another wonderful story!
Continue to give this book in the series a 5 star rating. The story is one that keeps you reading until the end. It is a definite plus that the book is clean and has no bad language. There's mystery, plenty of action, a ghost dog, and maybe a touch of romance. Really enjoy this series.
Jerry's friend doesn't answer his phone, so he goes in search of him and finds him in a national forest, secluded and hidden, dealing with his alcoholism. He convinces him to seek help. Meanwhile, another victim of the Hash Mark Killer is in a coma. Jerry visits her with Max and together they get more details to find the killer and bring him to justice before more people fall victim.
Brilliant, exciting, fun and heart wrenching all in one. I like how Max and Jerry connect and how Gunter loves them all. I admire April for being so understanding of Max's talent and connection to the psychic world.
This has been the best series I've ever read! If only there were a lot more books finished! What a exciting storyline! I like everything I have read by this author, but I really enjoyed this series!
Was a cop is now searching for killer and seems to be getting closer! A 12yr old is helping! Great series! Ms. Burton seems to be giving books out sooner !? Yea
