The plot could have been good.. but the writing was so bad.
The worst part was the cussing. I swear like a sailor don’t get me wrong, I have no issue reading swear words… they just weren’t done right? Idk how to explain it other than the cussing was similar to a fourth grader who thinks cussing makes them big and bad? Like they think calling someone a bitch for no reason in an inappropriate setting makes them big and bad?

The absolute worse book I’ve ever read in my life. Everything happened way too fast. Aurelia and Greys instant connection was cringe. Was it written by a middle schooler? Will I get my wasted time back?

I don't read much fantasy but I enjoyed this book and I liked that from the beginning things were already happening. The story itself was good but the ending ended on a cliffhanger just as I started to suspect it was gonna be a happy ending. I will definitely be reading the next book.

Book: The Shifters Stolen Fae
Read By: Ebook
Author: Amelia Shaw
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Main Characters: Aurelia and Grey

My feelings:

This was a fantastic short read! Under 200 pages.

I have only read one other book by this author and I enjoyed that one so I grabbed this when it was given out as a freebie from an event I went to in Sydney. And I am very happy I did.

I love a good “mate” shock romance. Its fun to read them trying to run away from it all, only to be so drawn to someone they can’t help it. Fast paced and juicy.

All in all great read, totally recommend.

The main character was good until the end when after when a small betrayal suddenly makes her shift toward the man that abused her and nearly killed one of her friends. Seems just like a cheap way to go exploring the other side of the conflict at the expense of character and really made me disengage from her entirely. It didn't really make sense. Even if she was mad and ran for it why would she think about going back to Malcom?

The iron fighting cage is also not consistent. At the start we see a shifter turn into a tiger and fight a troll. At the end another shifter turns into a wolf and enters and then is killed by the cage. So does it count after the shift is complete or not? Was the magic messed with before hand? Or was it an convenient way to kill a traitor by the author?

There where some decent things going on plot wise but the writing failed to convey tension...or really much emotion at all for me.

I fear, this book is kinda bad. The typos alone were plentiful and vaguely distracting at times. The story itself was fine and the characters weren't uninteresting, but the dialogue and characterization of people was so inconsistent that none of the choices or interpersonal relationships felt grounded. The prose was pretty and the spice was decently written, but this could definitely have used a few more rounds of edits (both for grammar and clarity) and maybe a beta reader focused on characterization.

short & sweet

The story has a lot of potential but was a bit immature in the writing and character building. I did enjoy the fact that it was a short read and might read the next book if it comes my way possibly

Just no..
It had potential, but just not so done very well. The story was meh, and the spice was meh. It was cringe at times and I sped through just to be finished with it. On top of that, there were errors with punctuation and grammar, and some sentences didn’t make sense even.. and the inner monologue? Towards the end, very annoying.
So meh, and I will not read the second. It was just not that good.. unfortunately!

A quick, urban paranormal fantasy romance set in today’s world Dallas. The writing wasn’t very good. I felt like at first it was fine and it got worse throughout. Because this is a series I feel that the story didn’t need to progress so fast.

Only got about 15% in. Everything felt over dramatic and super horney teens. I don't even remember what they look like but that could just be because I got out of surgery yesterday and I'm on a lot of pain meds.

I took notes because this was kind of hard to follow, so this is gonna be long.

I don't totally dislike Aurelia, but when her inner monolog says, "I haven't managed to stay alive this long by being a complete idiot," I snorted. It's only chapter 7, and while her instincts tell her things this is a trap, she ignores those instincts and gets played.

Then we meet Layla, Grey's Beta. There's an insta hate thing going on there because Aurelia is pure blood fae, and all other supes hate them and vise versa. So Grey takes this opportunity to further manipulate Aurelia and gaslight the fuck outta her to force Aurelia to stay.

Aurelia, still having thoughts like he just wants me for a job and Grey is suddenly like, "No, what would give you that idea?" And all the while, his game plan of I need to manipulate a fae into willingly helping me with my plan is still in full swing.

There's a real disconnect between all the characters' actions and their feelings. There's 0 chemistry. Grey doesn't feel even a little guilty about realizing the fae he was hunting to manipulate into helping him turns out to be his fated mate. Something he realizes instantly and he continues on like everything is fine.

Eventually everyone she's forced to be around is sick of her preferential treatment and she looses control of her magic. She accidentally attacks a shifter, Layla is right there to make things worse, and Grey has to come save the day. On their way out, they have their first oral sex scene and🤢🤮 because of this line right here "I grinned against her skin and moved up, peppered her pretty flower with teasing, feather-light kisses".

Now that they're finished, they gotta run out before Aurelia is formally challenged. They're almost free and clear but Layla is there and claims there's already a challenge. Aurelia accepts and now Grey is like WTF. It was just 3 chapters ago that Aurelia wanted out and used "you're just gonna prove Layla right" and was "disappointed" Grey doesn't acknowledge any of that previous interaction.

Grey never has a clear defining moment of I know this started out as a means to an end to acknowledgement of his dickery and being better moving forward.

He continually references his plans, how Aurelia can't know about them because she won't help otherwise, and saying things like I'd do anything to keep my mate safe and happy.

Aurelia, is just making every terrible decision possible, is still questioning if Grey just wants her for this job she was "hired" to do. She gets sold out by Layla and when she's rescued and sees Grey for the 1st time in days, she acts like she knew all along that Grey was her fated mate.

The book ends with only some of Grey's lies being exposed because 2 seconds before this there's more lies hinted at. Aurelia is rightfully pissed, jumps in an elevator and peaces out.

Overall, I thought the plot was decent. I had no interest in reading the only other spicy scene in the book after what I read of the oral scene in Chapter 10. There's just a complete lack of chemistry between Grey and Aurelia and the readers have to try and fill it in somewhere.

Poorly written, unlikeable characters, rushed plot, too many things happen off screen.

The MMC starts out the relationship with multiple lies, starting when he tells FMC he’s not with the bounty hunter he sent after her (because they technically didn’t show up together 🙄) and fails to tell her she’s his mate even though he knows it right away, even while using her attraction to him and the fact that she doesn’t know much about her species to his advantage. And she’s a virgin, so obviously all forms of attraction are new and confusing feelings for her (an annoyingly common trope that irritates me beyond belief).

MMC uses his connections in the supernatural community to bar everyone from offering her shelter, then convinces her she’s in danger and has nowhere to go. His beta is a catty brat with internalized misogyny whose first line to the FMC is this:

“Boss, honestly? I doubt she can be trained for anything battle-centric. She would do better in the breeding center.”

Disgusting.

The MMC is manipulative and controlling:

“You’re going to prove Layla, right? [sic] You’re going to wave your white flag and admit that you’re not cut out for this?”

Again, she’s only here participating in this training because he cut off all her other options! Appalling lack of care for someone who’s supposed to be her forever mate.

l
“When you’re in a vehicle with me, you will wait for someone to open the door for you,” he commanded with a throat-deep growl.

The editing is poorly done. Plenty of typos, bad use of commas and semicolons, and sometimes the timeline doesn’t make sense, like when the MCs leave the training facility suddenly after a conflict and because the FMC has been bullied and challenged by the others there. On the drive out, she had a panic attack and asked to stop. They stepped out into a forest and she said she liked the trees and did some magic with them. They get back to the car and continue home. Upon arriving at the MMC’s apartment, there are suddenly plenty of potted plants all over the place that weren’t there before, some of them wilted so that she can test her healing magic on them. She asks if he brought them here for her training or because she said she liked plants. He said yes, but there was no time for him to have done this and he made no calls on the drive; if he had, she would’ve heard him and known he had made the arrangements, so she wouldn’t’ve needed to ask. There’s also a special training ring set up for her with magic-blocking iron doors, and again, he didn’t know there was going to be a challenge to the FMC until he got to the facility, and didn’t know she wouldn’t be able to continue her training there, so when and why did he do these major renovations? It’s supposed to make the MMC seem thoughtful and attentive, but it just makes the author seem careless.

Darkly Beautiful and Beautifully Damned

Aurelia is a beautiful lost soul doing her best to survive and hide her identity as a Fae. The Fae are shunned and vilified as a wicked Folk, and nothing good comes of being recognized as one outside of Faerie.

Adopted by a witch, and hidden from the world, her adopted parent dies suddenly and unexpectedly - leaving Aurelia alone and without resources.
She meets Grey on the streets and he unexpectedly offers her a job working for him, if she agrees to training.

With no other options, she reluctantly accepts and finds herself embroiled in the dark and difficult world of shifters and betrayal far beyond anything she has ever experienced. It will be a miracle if she survives what is to come, but Aurelia is stronger than she seems.

This is a fascinating novel with darkly beautiful characters as well as those beautifully damned Fae in stark contrast. There is also the underpinning of epic themes of good versus evil, Love vs hate, and certainly Aurelia as the underdog with a few ragtag friends going up against Goliath/Malcolm representing prejudice, injustice and evil - well written, and an absolutely worthwhile read

It was ok, it was terrible but wasn’t omg this is amazing. I brought the 2nd book as well but I’m pretty sure I’m not even going to bother with it.

There’s a few reasons why I won’t continue:

1. The plot had so much potential but it just seemed to lack proper planning things didn’t make sense, it felt jumbled especially towards the end with the challenge.

2. The way the spicy scenes were described, I don’t mind his POV in books… but this wasn’t it for me. The words to describe certain things gave me the ick, just seemed like it was almost a Wattpad description back in the day.

3. The amount of errors I came across from a published book just annoyed me, I get people can miss things but there was just too many and I can’t be bothered with the if the next book is the same.

4. And how did Aurelia know they were fated mates all of a sudden? Did I black out and miss it or was it just all of a sudden thrown in there that she knew, it really confused me.

This book had soooo much potential and I really wished it had that extra bit of love to it to bring it from ok to amazing.

New series!

This was a great story about Aurelia, who is a fae, raised by witches in Dallas (I really love that since I live in Dallas!). Witches and shifters alike both do not like the Fae due to old issues where the Fae kicked them out of the home realm.

After a night where she almost was killed, she tried to make it home to the witch who raised her but passed out before giving her the meds. When she woke up, she found that the witch had passed away, and now she was on the run so she wouldn't be blamed for the death. Then she runs into the king of the shifters, who takes her in and tries to show her how to use her powers. She doesn't know that he's actually trying to use her for being a Fae, so he can try to overcome an old prophecy.

Their relationship grows, and he realizes that he's fated to her, which complicates things!!

I really enjoyed this story, and the ending sets it up perfectly for the next book!

I received an ARC for my honest review!

Storyline: great, writing:meh

The theme and storyline are great, it's something that could make for an amazing series... if written well.
There's a number of typos throughout the book, repeated words or like the writter changed their mind mid sentence (but instead of erasing what's written you just kept going with a new thought instead.)

And ALSO incomplete storyline as well.

**potential spoiler**

It's explained when he realized the mate connection, but she never quite understands the pull to him. OUT OF NOWHERE at the end of the book she just randomly calls him fated mate and references the mate bond....when did she figure out???

It's also very irritating that every time he talks about his heightened senses or speed he says "because of my wolf shifter abilities" like....we know. You don't have to say it every single time he smells, hears, or moves.

Ok, I feel like I am stuck because this is like the 5th book I have read that I just didn't enjoy. Was there a book I missed? so much was rushed and just missed, and I feel like I needed more explanation to go with the plot. Also, it felt at times forced like the male even though he is this Alpha badass it was like he was just rushing it with the female fae, I don't know?! I would have liked this to been more slow but steady with some character build up more background information so I would have felt like even though they are meant to be mates he actually gets to know her and truly falls in love with her instead of its written in the starts and well it just is, it was just awaked at time for me. Sorry to say but this was just not the book for me.

I picked this ebook up on Amazon for free and it was a really fun read. I read it in one sitting I liked the plot it was fast paced kept me interested and had some twists along the way. I really liked both Aurelia and gray as the two main characters and the interactions between them as Aurelia learnt more about the world around her and her place in it this story has a great mix of secondary supernatural characters that I enjoyed reading about. this book did end on a cliffhanger and I liked it enough and feel like I need to no what happens next that is a series I will be continuing with.

This has the potential to be a good story. Two things are holding it back, in my opinion- the grammar issues and the whiplash it gives.

There are grammar issues in every chapter- sometimes it’s a word missing, sometimes an extra word is thrown in that makes no sense, and sometimes it’s one random word mistakenly added to the end of a paragraph.

The story gives me a bit of whiplash because the characters go from 0 to 100 on an issue in less than a paragraph or a page, leaving me confused as to how we got here. I may or may not read the second book.

3.5-star

Enjoyed the overall story - it maybe felt a bit rushed at times, and I would have liked more details, but it was a short read so I can't really complain.

I liked the FMC Aurelia and MMC Grey - again a bit rushed but I definitely loved them together. I would like to know how their story is going to play out so I will be definitely reading the next instalment.

Hopefully there will be more details and more world building in the next book, if so I can see this series being a 4-star read

Fingers crossed!

Just finished The Shifter’s Stolen Fae by Amelia Shaw, and I’m surprisingly hooked! This was my first time diving into fantasy romance, and I loved that it’s set in a real-world setting with just the right mix of magic. Grey has this mysterious, dark vibe—kind of a villain, but not really—and it kept me guessing. The story flows so smoothly; it’s long enough to pull you in, but light and easy to follow without being bogged down in too many details. A solid 4 stars from me, with just a dash of spice at 0.5/5. If you’re looking for a light fantasy escape, this one’s worth a read!

Caution: Spoiler! Good story despite a few quirks, imo.

Yes, the whole immediately fated mates was a but much, but shifter romances always have this, don't they? Bravo for getting it out of the way!
Aurelia reminded me a bit of Madame Bovary from my college Lit class, just kind of oblivious in the beginning and letting everyone else make all the decisions until she figured it out (unlike Madame B).
I enjoyed the characters, but I feel like I don't have enough details to bring anyone fully to life in my mind. Descriptions just seem a but lacking, but I am hopeful!
