You’ll see more clearly why your DOG father was always barking orders, and your PIG mother was always trying to keep the peace. You’ll look up to your ROOSTER big sister and admire her accomplishments, and you’ll adore your baby SHEEP brother and understand why he always got the best dressed award. You’ll be happy that you have found a RAT tailor to help with your wardrobe selection for that upcoming event you’ll be attending with your new dashing SNAKE friend. All this because of our brilliantly funny author, Suzanne White! Does someone have a pedestal we can place her on? She’s terrific!!!

Her most prominent book - The New Astrology™ - is a savvy blend of the two major astrologies on earth. White combined two astrologies which invented 144 new signs. Leo/Dog is not like Leo/Dragon for example. THE NEW ASTROLOGY™ is an Amazon best seller and sales are increasing every year.

The Publisher Says: Though the practice of astrology is many centuries old, it is only perhaps once in a generation that a thoroughly new, totally original way of looking at the zodiac is discovered. The New Astrology is such a system.
For those convinced that there is nothing new under the sun--or the stars--Suzanne White offers a startling and provocative thesis: There are not 12 but 144 signs of the zodiac, each distinct, each unique, each vital to everyone's quest for self-understanding.
By combining the astrological systems of the traditional Chinese (terrestrial) with that of the Occident (celestial), Suzanne White demonstrates that each of us is governed by two signs. Hence, a Capricorn Tiger is likely to be quite different from a Capricorn Cat, as is a Leo Dog from a Leo Dragon, and so on. This unique blend of Western and Chinese Astrology gives detailed analyses of each of the 144 signs, including individualized sections of love, sex and romance, business, money, careers, home life and compatibility (or lack of it) with other signs.
Already a best-seller in France, The New Astrology is a massive undertaking and the result of more than a decade of research and study of the two systems. It offers insights into not only our own lives, but also those of all who are close to us. Suzanne White's prose is lucid, candid, and suffused with a sense of fun, but The New Astrology is above all a serious tool for self-awareness and understand the rich variety of human nature all around us.
My Review: No, I don't believe in astrology's powers of prediction; no, I don't subscribe to the practice of astrology for any purpose other than entertainment.
So why review the book at all? Because, writer friends, if it's not on your shelf today, get it on there via Prime in two days. Like, order now, I'll wait.
You see, Ms. White has thoughtfully made 144 character sketches in some detail for you! And she has helpfully diagrammed the best matches and the worst nightmares of each character!! MC needs to be brave? Pick a Leo sign...Leo/Dragon works. MC needs a bad first marriage? Pisces/Cat (her term for what traditionally is called Rabbit). Then a HUGE chunk of your work is done for you. It is AWESOME.
Oh, and real people? Well, they all have birthdays. Go look 'em up! Don't know which Chinese zodiac year 1677 is? There's a chart in the back of the book!
So what with this, and with Michael Moorcock's truly, absolutely never-fail method of fast execution (for which link one is grateful to one's minion Dantastic Book Reviews' own Dan), you are so good to go it's not funny.
My own tip to add to the pile: Always, always, always have poetry anthologies, Bartlett's Quotations, and the Bible nearby. You will need a title, at the very least; an epigraph is handy, too; and goodness knows a quick cheat-sheet of sonorous sentences can be a fabulously useful thing, too.
Que meigo, que bonito. Está tudo certo, só faltaram as partes podres. Rá!
Com a união de Aquário e Macaco, surge uma pessoa de excepcional fôlego e sagacidade. A combinação é harmoniosa e promissora. Sua agressividade é verbal. As palavras constituem o instrumento dessa criatura lúcida. O ideal é a verossimilhança.
Celebridades de Aquário/Macaco: Charles Dickens, Learned Hand, Anton Tchékhov, François Truffaut, Mlios Forman, Gay Talese, Carl Bernstein, Angela Davis, Alice Walker.
Fantastic astrology book. This is the best book on the zodiac signs I have ever read. This one book combines the eastern and western zodiac signs into one reading. Excellent reference source. Very recommended
So I'm about to really go off and let my astrology nerd self show in this review. Fair warning.
I was really looking forward to this book because I've rarely seen one that combines Western and Chinese signs so of course that was the appeal of getting this. It's been on my shelf for years but I remember that was the draw of it.
Yet, immediately, I sensed something was off when it outright said I was completely incompatible with two people I'm very close to and get along with. Even when looking up the combinations of my moon and rising signs (something she doesn't really include in this book and that's not good in terms of painting more accurate portraits), it seemed pretty biased and off. Some signs she raves over and others read like backhanded compliments. That's a red flag in any astrology book, for the record. No author should show a bias to any one sign. They should all be treated the same and written with the same amount of care.
Looking through it further I noticed another glaring exclusion: the elements of the Chinese signs. They are all divided into Yin/Yang, yes. But any Chinese astrology book worth it's stuff will include the elements for each sign: fire, water, earth, wood, and metal.
Long story short: the elements for the Chinese signs have a huge bearing on the temperament of that sign (a wood Ox is not the same as a metal Ox, a water Dragon not the same as an earth or fire Dragon, etc). When you exclude that, all your summaries for compatibility and matching will be not only way off but inaccurate in pretty much every section. Which really negates the biggest selling point of the book...
This very important exclusion (plus the lack of planets with the Western signs, that already have fixed elements) just makes the whole book inaccurate. And not what I thought I had bought, either. Very disappointing.
This book has combined the western and Chinese zodiacs and it makes so much sense. I've always kinda, sorta believed in astrology. Some people think its fun, others think it's silly, still others think it's just nonsense and have a whole list of logical reasons why. I always thought I fit more into the "this is fun and interesting" category, but I never took it entirely seriously because I felt I wasn't exactly the vain, ego centrical Leo that's Leos are. I've since learned better because this new astrology makes a lot of sense. When I read about my new combined sign, Leo/Monkey, I suddenly get why I wasn't as showy and centre of attentiony as Leo's are supposed to be. It's eerie to read about your sign and see how much of it is true. For me, it's definitely been an eye opener about understanding myself. I'm hoping now it might help me figure out other people.
I like the way this book is written. It’s conversational, insightful and funny. But why call it a blend of Chinese and western and then use a year of the cat?… (not my year but I lived in Asia and this is annoying). The year of the cat is represented in Vietnam and there’s a lot of etymological and cultural reasons for this, but the book clearly says Chinese astrological system which follows the year of the rabbit. Seems like such a blatant error to misrepresent the culture (neither addressed or apparently understood) that I have to cut a couple stars. Regardless I’d take it all with a grain of salt as it’s mostly anecdote from her personal experience. Still entertaining though and my Taurus pig description was relatively sharp.
So FABULOUS a book!! If you love astrology (to a normal, or slightly elevated amount) you will love this book! Add all the spectacular Wisdom of the East, which has been in practice basically since the beginning of time (ok, so I slightly exaggerate, but you get the gist...) Information and fun galore resides in this book!
"The New Astrology" is a brilliant book, and my absolute favorite on the subject of astrology. Author Suzanne White has expertly synthesized East and West astrology into 144 distinct signs, offering an astute precision that neither zodiac offers on its own. I heartily recommend "The New Astrology" because it's timeless, well-written, entertaining, and just plain good.
Suzanne White’s synthesis of two great systems, Tropical and Chinese Astrology, was truly revolutionary when she first published her seminal study. Today she continues to innovate and inform, and always to entertain. Accept no substitutes!
Love that she paired western and Chinese astrology to come up with 144 character combinations. I’m a Tiger but I’m also a Libra which can be very different from someone who is a Capricorn Tiger. It makes sense once you read it and I enjoy reading about it.
4 stars because there are a lot of spelling errors
I appreciated the dissection of the Chinese signs in this book, since I have not frequently read Chinese Astrology books that have made sense to me. This book made sense of the Eastern Zodiac very well. My only complaint would be that White focused almost too much on the positive sides of signs, which made some of her Western Zodiac summaries seem inaccurate. I think her general Rat section was intensely accurate, her general Taurus section inaccurate, her Aries and Aries/Dragon sections helpful, and her Rat/Virgo and Cat/Aquarius sections succeeded in making sense of how an Eastern sign can be slightly different depending on the Western sign it's coupled with.
I think this is an important view of the two differing zodiacs and it makes for a helpful and expanding read for anyone studying astrology.
Just a really fun book. I appreciate the author's ambition, combining two systems and writing 144 individual Western Sun/Chinese Animal descriptions. There's a beginning section giving the flavor for each Western, then Eastern sign, and then it goes into the specific East/West combinations. Each one has keywords, a general overview of the person, then a Love, Home and Family, and Profession category, each with a few paragraphs, as well as Compatibilities, and Famous People sharing the same East/West sign pairing. And for what it's worth, it has been pretty accurate (and enlightening) in describing people I know. Super fun book to have on the shelf.
wow taking both chinese and western together! unfortunately the author is very biased and has personal stories that are lacking in facts. I've let alot of people read what she has to say and its not on hit.
I have turned to this book for many years now, as a reference and a tool. It has masterfully blended the two sometimes murky worlds of Eastern and Western astrology, and it is superbly written. You will enjoy this book again and again.
Very accurate. This takes Western and Chinese Astrology and gives you a more accurate personality type along with family life, love life, and compatibility. This is one of the most accurate books I have ever read.
This is a great one- The best basic- Up there with Linda Goodman's Love Signs!!! Blends Chinese and Western signs to find compatabilities- Easy to use!
This book is such an excellent reference of character. Every time I hire someone new for the company I work for, I always read over their signs so I know how to best handle them.
Ridiculously accurate. Combining the two zodiacs yields highly detailed and refined portraits of the people you know. Correlate and you will be astounded. Best astrology book out there IMHO.
I have had this book in my collection for many years. Uncanny how accurate it is. This is a must have in your library, you will find it an indispensable reference.
