Judy Nunn (born 13 April 1945) is an Australian actress and author.

Judy Nunn's career has been long, illustrious and multifaceted. After combining her internationally successful acting career with scriptwriting for television and radio, Judy decided in the 80s to turn her hand to prose. The result was two adventure novels for children, EYE IN THE STORM and EYE IN THE CITY, which remain extremely popular, not only in Australia but in Europe. Embarking on adult fiction in the early 90s, Judy's three novels, THE GLITTER GAME, CENTRE STAGE and ARALUEN, set respectively in the worlds of television, theatre and film, became instant bestsellers. Her subsequent bestsellers, KAL, BENEATH THE SOUTHERN CROSS, TERRITORY, PACIFIC, HERITAGE and FLOODTIDE confirm her position as one of Australia’s leading popular novelists.

Judy Nunn is Australian and historical fiction royalty and a firm favourite in this household.
So when a new release appears on the shelves, it’s straight in the shopping basket for purchase.
With this book it’s a little different.
Six unique stories.
Written across the years.
Now together for the first time.
From country oz to the exotic location of Rome, we are blessed with the talents of a classic storyteller but in the form of short stories and novellas.
All the ingredients of entertaining tales are still here.
The Long Weekend is about five friends on a weekend away that goes horribly wrong.
The Wardrobe is hiding many secrets and when a new owner arrives it reveals itself.
The Otto Bin Empire is Clive’s story that is the beginning of a new series.
Changes celebrates a milestone birthday and the many life changing moments of film producer, Jackie.
The House On Hill Street is an enigma that will unravel.
Just South Of Rome is told through the eyes of Jane and her adventure in Italy and the Hotel Visconti, which is more fact than fiction.
After all these stories there’s “A word from Judy” about each of them and a little bio.
A clever collection and one that I enjoyed thoroughly.

I love Judy Nunns work. This book certainly did not disappoint. An anthropology of short stories, I enjoyed the author recap at the end of each story. A little different to her usual work, but still fabulously amazing. My favourite in this collection was The Wardrobe. (but of course I enjoyed them all.).

I loved this collection of unrelated stories! The note from Judy at the end of each story is enlightening. I'd love to see any of these made into movies or series. I love Judy's writing style. So easy to read. Great Reading!

Dnf at 40% - as beautiful as this book was, I am not the target audience and I have made the decision to stop here or else I’ll forever have it waiting for me to finish.

This book was awesome. I had expected something a little more along the lines of Judy’s novels, but this blew me away at the outset. The short stories format let her write all sorts of amazing fascinating. Interesting things that didn’t need to be fully explored and fleshed out into a book, so the stories really packed a punch and I can’t say anything else without leaving spoilers!

Quite disappointed with this book of short stories.
I really enjoyed the first story but the rest just went downhill from there.
I feel like Judy was told by the publisher to get a book out and she didn’t have a suitable story so put together all of her ideas that never made it to a full book purely to satisfy her publisher.
Such a disappointment.

4.5 stars. A very good, engaging collection of six short stories. I enjoyed them all and particularly liked the author’s approximately one page comment at the end of each story telling what the inspiration was for the story. ‘The Wardrobe’ and ‘The Otto Bin Empire: Clive’s Story’ are my favourite stories.

‘The Long Weekend’ is about five female workmates deciding to spend a long weekend in a remote mountain shack without phone and laptops. What could go wrong?
‘The Wardrobe’ has Nancy, a journalist, buying a rundown terrace house. She knows nothing about the previous owner who had lived in the house for many years. Beneath old linen in an old upstairs wardrobe she discovers correspondence between two friends.
‘The Otto Bin Empire: Clive’s Story’. Clive is homeless, having been kicked out by his wife. He had been involved in a gardening business. He has two grown up children who he prefers not to communicate with for the present. Clive gets used to living the homeless life, doing odd gardening jobs and communicating with other homeless individuals.
‘Changes’ follows Jackie, an actor turned film producer, who reflects on her seven decades.
‘The House on Hill Street’. In a respectable address police make a gruesome discovery. Professor Jameson is charged with murdering his wife Eileen Jameson. It appears obvious that Professor Jameson committed the murder given the inside of his house is covered in his wife’s blood, but Jameson strongly asserts that he is not guilty!
‘Just South of Rome’ tells to story of actor Jane Prescott staying at the Hotel Visconti, an 18th century villa, located in a small village south of Rome, with a couple of odd characters running the hotel.

This book was a surprisingly very enjoyable reading experience. It is the first Judy Nunn book that I have read.

This book was first published in 2022.

A nice compilation of six short stories, varied and unrelated but this makes a nice assortment 'dip' of simple, uncomplicated reading.

My first flavour of Judy's writing and I liked the style. Straight-forward but intelligently presented with humour and genuine empathy and care. She comes across as a woman of the world who lives it, breathes it all in and savours it for what it is, warts and all. Someone with real feeling for people and people's lives, of life itself and the thirst for it. I could feel her opening the letters and tapping the wardrobe, stroking the christening gown and biscuit tin. I could capture her face as Umberto did his 'act' and watch her distaste of his wine and culinery skills. I could hear the bee-like buzzing of the lambrettas.

A taste of someone else's taste for life. Grab a copy - Laughs and loves of life.

I'm not a huge reader of short stories but I really enjoyed this compilation of 6 stories from Judy Nunn. I've read a few of Nunn's works and they never disappoint - she's a great Australian author with many books under her belt. In this anthology, each story was uniquely different, thoroughly enjoyable and easy to read. I finished the book in 2 settings and found each story to be just the right length and easy to engage with. The stories were vividly told and I loved how each story came with a reflection from the author explaining the origins of the story.

I particularly loved The Wardrobe, a heartwarming story about a woman whose new home comes with an old wardrobe. The contents of the wardrobe help her learn about the previous owners of the house and take her on a journey that changes her life.

A great little weekend read.

A little different to her usual work, it’s a captivating collection of six short stories, but still quite a good read. My favourite bit in this collection was ‘’The Wardrobe”.
The Wardrobe When journalist Nancy buys a rundown terrace house, she knows nothing about the previous owner - until a discovery in an old wardrobe reveals the lives, loves and losses of Emily Roper.
Another story
Just South of Rome on her way to England, actor Jane Prescott makes a quick stopover in Italy. When she stumbles upon the Hotel Visconti, a grand eighteenth-century villa, she has no idea that it will change her life.

I don’t usually like short stories but this is a very nice collection. The author’s style comes through and each story is entertaining in its own right. The footnote by Judy Nunn after each story added was a nice touch giving insight into each one.

A variety of subjects from secrets held by a wardrobe, to people meeting around a wheelie bin, to romance in Italy.

Thoroughly enjoyed this as I have with every one of this author’s books that I have read.

These stories are very different, mostly almost novellas, a couple of them could be classified as crime fiction, their plots a little macabre. At the end of each story the author describes what led her to write the story. In some cases, a scenario that has stuck in the author's mind for a long time.

This book is as a collection of stories to which I enjoyed only three. The rest were a bit boring. Not sure if I would like any more of this author’s books 📚 if this is the type of story telling I have to look forward to.

Interesting short stories, although beware that the crime in The House on Hill Street (story 5) was extremely appalling. My favourite was The Wardrobe. The Italian holiday story felt very realistic, and turns out it was mostly a true story.

The Long Weekend- a typical start to a story about a weekend away for 5 colleagues. The planning, preparation and then the start of the journey...
The Wardrobe- a young woman buys a rather dilapidated house and in the main bedroom, a wardrobe has been left behind by the previous owners family. Based on a true story but with a nice twist at the end.
The Otto Bin Corner- Clive's Story- a homeless man has a story which no-one else knows, his reason for being homeless. will he move on to a new life or continue to be part of the Otto Bin Corner

Wendy's Restaurant - basically a story about a trip the author took and all the unusual things that happened which make it seem unbelievable, however Judy Nunn tells it as it happened to her.
