I received a free copy of this book from Booksirens, and this is my honest review.
I'll give the author credit, I don't know of many people writing romances with krampi... there was good worldbuilding related to the krampi... it was unique? I don't know.
Frost Claim follows the life of college student Noelle as she stumbles upon a krampus named Aeryx, who's portal stone has broken, meaning he can't get home. What ensues is a forced proximity romance/instalove between a human and a krampus; a krampus that is glamoured to look like a beast in the human world? I know this is supposed to be a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but that just feels so odd to me. Wouldn't glamours make it so they looked like beasts in their own realm, but normal in the human realm to avoid detection? Even if that weren't the case, you would think the krampi would try to do something to change it... although I guess it reinforces the decree that humans and krampi shouldn't mix? I was basically scratching my head throughout a lot of this romance that bordered on beastiality (I really don't know how to feel about that last part, but if that's your kink, then all the power to you). None of the characters really had that much depth, there was little to no character development, the magic system and rules were introduced as they became relevant, which made everything feel super, "Well that's convenient," to me. Even the twist at the end with Aeryx and Noelle and Noelle specifically felt completely random with minimal setup. Also, Noelle was just annoying at times.
Overall, Frost Claim drew me in enough to finish in one sitting, but my mind wasn't blown or anything. Even the sex scenes, which had good build up, felt incredibly rushed and underwhelming, but that might just be because of how much tension was created? I don't know.
