Someone’s lighting fires. A town needs a hero. Passions will ignite.
Stacey Turner is ready to kickstart her life ten years after a horrific bushfire that killed her father and left her scarred. She dreams of a new career and hasn’t dated since high school and doesn’t know where to begin. When Stacey takes a big risk driving a race car without a permit, she meets a gorgeous stranger. Sparks fly as they flirt over a drink. A kiss leads to another and turns into a steamy one-night stand in the back of his vintage Mustang. Returning to work two days later, Stacey finds her one-night stand is the new locum doctor. Doctor Harry Cain wants to escape the ghosts of his past. He didn’t expect to have a chance encounter with a beautiful woman who refuses to tell him her name. When he arrives in Ballydoon for a temporary work contract, the beautiful woman from his one-night stand is now his colleague, Stacey. But, Stacey absolutely refuses to date a doctor. They both have scars—physical and emotional. As their passion ignites, people’s lives are on the line. Will Stacey and Harry both take a risk to give their futures, and love, a chance?
Ignite is the first book in a four-book, small town, contemporary romance series, Fiery Hearts of Ballydoon, which follows the Turner family on their historic sheep station. They volunteer as firefighters for the rural fire brigade, find love, and work together to stop an arsonist threatening the entire district.
Trigger/content warnings: contains trauma due to burns and mentions suicide.
Louisa Duval is an Australian author who writes small town, contemporary romance set in Ballydoon, where the heroes are rugged as the landscape around them, and the stories steamier than an Aussie heat wave. Louisa has worked in radio, recruitment, education, freelance writing and corporate communications, and once traipsed around a national park looking for wombat burrows. When she isn’t working in the city, she spends as much time as possible with her family at their riverside acreage watching the wallabies and drinking the local wine. She is a proud supporter of her local rural fire brigade and hopes she will never be in the front line of a bushfire and admires those who have. She lives with her husband, two kids, a lazy cattle dog-Kelpie cross, three chickens, and many indoor plants.
I absolutely loved this book! The wit and humour that comes across in Louisa Duval's writing is so refreshing and fun to read. This book really will cause you to ignite cause it is that hot! Stacey Turner likes to take risks, such as driving driving a race car without a permit, so when she decides to take a handsome stranger up on a one night stand, she never expected the guy to turn up the next day at her work as the new doctor! Just one slight problem - she doesn't date doctors. But Stacey and Harry both have scars in their past and it's only by working together that they can start to heal. But will they take that risk of being exposed and vulnerable again in order to explore this growing attraction between them?
As mentioned, this book has steam and lots of it. The chemistry between Stacey and Harry is epic and you can really feel it through the author's words. What I love about Louisa Duval's writing is that she puts you the reader right there in the moment. You feel as if you are a part of the scene and with the characters.
This book is the first of a four part series which features the Turner family, sheep farmers and volunteer rural firefighters. But if you read Duval's debut novel Whisky & Sunshine, you were introduced to the first Turner girl Amanda (who is mentioned in this novel). So it is nice to have that tie in with that novel to this one. Although this can be read as a stand alone novel. Much of the story in this also involves a bit of a mystery as there is an arsonist in this small town causing some damage. Being part of the fire brigade, Stacey not only has her work cut out for her, she also must face her fears from an incident in her past. I honestly really loved this book, it not only has the romance but also a great story and strong writing. You can tell the author did her homework on this story and her love and respect for the fire brigades of Australia. I highly recommend this book and know you won't be disappointed. My thanks to the author for an advanced unedited copy, my review is entirely voluntary and my own opinion.
It's probably more a 4.5 but I prefer to round up than down. First of all, this is told in 1st person. I am not a big reader of 1st person which is common in new adult and young adult. Usually I wait for the movie. But you know how it is. You know the author, so you skim over it so you can say you read it. *smiles nicely*.
Well, I actually forgot it was first person. I became so involved with the characters and story I was flying through it. Doctor Harry is a great male protagonist. He's starting a new job after a tragedy in his life and career. Just a temporary job until he can get his priorities sorted. If he happens to hook up with a hot racing car driver on the way, that's a bonus. Though breaking the rules when it comes to what is allowed to happen in his car, "Lorraine".
Stacy is a strong female protagonist. She's been to hell and still has a lot of baggage she brought back with her. One night of breaking the rules is a chance she wants to take after ten years of grief and trauma. Not that she knows she's breaking the "Lorraine" rules.
Working with Doctor Harry is not what she expected when she turned up at work on the Monday after the best shag of her life. Stacy's life is complicated. She has a big family and she has ambitions she's never had a chance to achieve but she's coming close.
Ballydoon is a small town that is almost a character in itself. There's a fun cast of secondary characters beyond Stacy's family and Harry has some great friends we get to meet. It's very like contemporary rural life. No privacy, no secrets and everyone cares about their neighbours.
Until they don't. There's a firebug in the town endangering people and Stacy and her family are part of the Ballydoon Rural Fire Brigade. This is an ongoing mystery arc that will continue through the series.
A great first in series though there are a couple of connected novellas and a short story to my knowledge if you want more while waiting for book 2.
I love Stacey's interests and passions, they're different from typical romances. All the characters were developed even the minor characters. I really enjoyed the township created in this story. It was hotter than what I normally go for, but I still enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more stories from Ballydoon.
I really enjoyed this book. It has drama, intrigue, lovable characters, hot romance scenes and humour. Louisa has a wonderful way of setting the country scene and lifestyle. I feel l was really there.
Loved it. Smoking hot story. Great main characters. I laughed and cried. Such a hearfelt story written with such passion. Can't wait to read the next book.
Ignite is a small-town romance set in Australia. Such a fun, easy read that still tackles some serious issues. It's got great banter, great spice and a whole town of fascinating characters. Tropes to expect: • Small town • Forced proximity (they work together) • Open door spice • Australian setting • Tough bushfire survivor heroine • Emotionally-scarred doctor hero • Fiery banter
Wow, just wow!!! This book was like coming home to my favourite small town, and riding a roller coaster of laughter, tears, *amazing* spicy times, and melting-heart moments. I loved Ignite soooo much. Can't wait for more in this series!
