As Alpha of the Brockdale pack, Ansen holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. Responsibility is all he’s every known. Long ago, he inherited a feud he didn’t want and it cost him his mate. But time and experience has changed them both, and he’s looking for a second chance with the smart and beautiful matchmaker he’s never given up on. She is his forbidden love. His first love. His only love. Winona has lived a life of loneliness, and it’s only partly Ansen’s fault. She has secrets she won’t let him in on, but he’s going to find a way to win her back. If he can learn what she’s hiding, he knows they can move past the regrets keeping them apart. The quicker the better, because his wolf is ready to claim her for good, and show her how things can only get better with age. Especially a love like theirs.
*** The conclusion to P. Jameson's Apex Mountain Shifters series. ***

I'd been looking forward to this novella since the hints and slightly mysterious vibes we got in book #2 when it came to Winona and Ansen's prologue chapter. Since, every prologue has just been hyping up this ending... and being honest, I don't think it was worth it.
The reasons that kept them apart FOR TWENTY YEARS (!!!!) are absolutely not worth it. Bri's thing, I get, so I guess I could potentially understand Winona's hesitation... but Ansen? Come on! Absolutely not. This man has had his mate within arms reach for two whole f*cking decades and he's done nothing about it? Hasn't tried to fix things?? or just talk things out? Absolutely the most unbelievable thing in this book. And there are bear, wolf and grasshopper shifters... so, yeah. I'm calling bullsh!t.
Apart from that, I'm only disappointed because the MCs spend about half the book separated, and we just either get flashbacks or them pinning in their own heads about one another. You're both aware you've in love with each other for twenty years -just get to it, people!!
Overall, I'm glad I gave this series a go. It's made for a really fun couple of days.
We’ve waited 6 books to get to Ansen and Wynona’s hea and it was well worth the wait. Secrets never stay secrets forever and they loose their power over our lives when they are finally revealed. True forever love will always prevail. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Brockdale wolves. Until next time y’all happy reading.
Ansen is a wolf and winona is a grasshopper. These two clans are at war, but no one ever knew these two were soul mates. Will the truth of their past come back to bite them? Great read.
Winona and Ansen finally!!! Beautiful ending to a raging storm. My question is, who is Briona's mate???? I think this should continue, or at the very least, spin-off with the bear shifters and combine everyone with mates. Sorry, this series was so good, I hate to see it end, even on a happy note!
Final book discloses the reason for the generational feud between the packs that kept these mates separated. The secrets finally were revealed clearing the way for a happy ending.
This book started with a fantastic cover, and ended with a whopper! This was an open the the book, read straight through, and nothing pulled my attention from this story. Their pain radiated off the pages, their love was painful, their secrets were life altering, especially to their hearts. But what a fantastic read! Loved the epilogue! The last paragraph was a great big YES!!
HOWL WE WERE wins best in series, hands down! Of course, I may be a bit partial, as I’ve been wanting Ansen and Winona’s story since the series started. And now I’ve read it, it was so worth waiting for. Lots of secrets are revealed in this one, which answers many questions. There are some surprises and long-awaited connections, that are sure to keep you thoroughly enthralled. It’s got just the right amount of excitement and passion, with a touch or two of intrigue, to keep you thoroughly engaged and always entertained. The ending is especially sweet in a gruesome, just desserts kind of way. I have enjoyed this series and each of these stories so much that I hate to see it end.
Ansen and Winona held themselves apart for years, both holding painful secrets to keep each other and their people safe. But the truth always comes forth. His wolf will no longer be denied its mate, her strida will be answered and they will make up for all the years lost.
One stupid mistake by drunken fools set the grasshoppers against the wolves. Two acts of love hopefully reversed the hate and stopped the war (we didn't get much past the truth reveal). I did like that the current villain got his terrible justice. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter were a great addition and really helped set the tone.
Just wanna say that the miscommunication situational trope exists in this book. And usually, I absolutely hate that happening in a book. It infuriates me to no end... most of the time.
However... somehow, P. Jameson managed to do it in a way that I was actually really pleased with. I loved this series, and I was almost afraid to read this last one because I kind of thought that's where this was going. And it did... but I still enjoyed it so much.
Going to look up all of P. Jameson's books now so I can figure out what of hers to add next. :)
From book 1 I was hooked on Wi and Ansen. All the clues led to this explosive conclusion. I've never been so happy, so relieved to read the truths and Winona and Ansen finally being able to truly be mates. The bond they didn't quite understand as young adults wouldn't diminish. Even during the 20 years of protecting the other from the secrets. Thank you for another amazing series PJ. Happy writing and can't wait to see what you give us next?
I like how they finally were able to come together and clear up all the misunderstandings. Great character development and a good storyline. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 instead of a five is because at the very end it was brought up at the Bear had Antlers and a jingle bell around his neck?? What’s up with that? Was he really a bear or was he supposed to be something else?Very confusing at the end
Wellllllll..... I skipped the previous book. Just wanted to know how this series ends, what the reason for the feud was and why these two weren't together. Well, it was all awfully anticlimactic and the sole reason for everything was totally dumb. My gosh... And why on earth does she have to drive back 20 hours to get him and drive another 20 hours. Just let him get to Seattle and pick him up. Ugh...
Ansen & Winnie knew they were mates when they were too young to understand but bitter family rivals and secrets held by both for over 20 years meant they needed to carry on as friends, never getting to complete the bond, until outside forces mean they need to face the truth and finally be together.
Overall, it was a good way to round off this series, which I did enjoy, esp as all books are around 100 pages or less.
I immensely enjoyed this book. All secrets revealed, fated mates finally together and bonded. I also enjoyed the way the shifters carried their wolves on their chats and their mates were bitten by them as the human mates marked them. A different kind of wolf shifter. Thank you for this series and read it from book one to get the whole story and see how they all get their HEA.
I was so excited for this book, and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful love story. My only issue was that by the end of the book I still didn't *quite* get why they couldn't have been together 20 years ago. Lost me there, a little bit. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars. I was perfectly happy to coast through this one on vibes, angst, and smut, though, so it wasn't a huge deal.
Awesome! This series has been AWESOMENESS! Lol The last book i this long feud, and no one ever knew why. Ansan and Wi have finely saved the pack. Drama, mystery and a twisted story to end this series of great characters with great personalities that love conquers all! Loved it!
20 years - they wasted 20 years for that????????????????? * None of the reasons were good enough to spend 20 years without your mate. * Not good enough for a war * Not good enough to remain in hiding... * Not good enough for Wolves to cower from Grasshoppers
Thank you, P. Jameson for a few hours of sappy reading, but we are done now.
I’m so happy that Ansen and Winona got their happy ending! They deserve it and more!! I love them together and it hurt to find out that the feud between the family was over an accident. I get the guy being pissed, sad, traumatized by what happened to his mate but letting it cause this feud hurt do many people along the way!
20 years wasted because of stupid reason. I tried not to like this book but I got a soft spots for Winona and Ansen. I’m glad they found their HEA. The epilogue was kinda rushed and the ending was weird.
We finally get the book I know I've been dying to read. Finally answers behind the infamous tension between the alpha and matchmaker. This story did not disappoint. There is blame to go around for secrets and lies. No one gets off scot-free. Lots of good remorse.
This series has been hinting at this couple since the start and PJ did not disappoint!!!! This was super cute and wrapped everything up pretty well. I could definitely read another 6 books from this world if PJ ever wanted to write more *hint hint* *wink wink*
This book was awesome. Ansen finnally got his mate Winona and Lucas got what he deserved. It contained a lot of suspense mixed with mystery throughout this book. Excellent reading.
This couple has been teasing us since day one and I NEEDED them to have their happily ever after. It was nice to know their story and why they were staying apart.
Ansen and Winona's story was a great ending to the series! Loved Ansen's sister Bri character an her mate was interesting. The very ending was entertaining also. Definitely enjoyed it.
Glad this series ended (possibly) with Ansen's story. WI and him were doing what they thought was good for each other and their pacts. Secrets and lies always end up badly! Happy this ended how it did!
Second chance, shifter romance. End to series. Secrets kept them apart in order to protect each other. Maybe they could have just had a conversation instead? Fave Quote I’m coming, mate. And when I find you, I’m never letting you go.
A very good story to end the series and glad that Winnie and anson get their story and happy ever after. Add in the visits to the Christmas tree farm and our bears and bri and it just hits the spot. Nice bit of retribution too.
