*Please note my start/finish dates is not a reflection of my review. I am a working woman :)*
I have to begin with giving a major shoutout to the illustrators Asiah Fulmore and Anthony Ebengho.
We have the pleasure of following these characters: Kiru, Eibo, Janeen, and Yahri. This story is split into 16 parts and the initial one titled "Intruder." The beginning portion of the story is shown from (3) points of view told from Kiru, Eibo, and Janeen. The reader is wondering why and when the story will converge together. The characters itself eventually do but the story is consistently told in multiple viewpoints. It provides an in-depth look into the situations within the story and at the same time, it could cause slight frustration for wanting to know what's occurring next.
The incomparable four are in the town of Ehre for the induction ceremony due to completing a series of missions to grant them an abundance of wealth and prosperity. You're wondering if there's an impending caveat to this dream and trust me, there is (worth reading). Enter in Cinnabar, a character you're consistently wondering how much power he has, and slightly toxic just like the mineral. He provides necessary aid for the group but there's always a cost (society as a whole :( ).
In its entirety, the story encompasses grief, camaraderie, random child (don't ask), and a host of other themes. I do believe at times some scenes were drawn too much and could've been consolidated or another point of view wasn't necessary. I love the characters stood on their own with their personalities and they will grow on you especially Janeen. Any person identifying as a woman should feel reveled as Janeen does. I'm looking forward to the next installment and really hope Yahri's story is shown in the next book.
