Rate this book
The destination is Ehre, where candidates from all over compete for a chance at kingship, or so it seems…
After their long voyage, Kiru, Eibo, and Janeen want to catch up over a hot meal. More than two years have passed since they were together. Yet, their first night in Ehre turns for the worst when a commotion breaks out at assembly.
Kiru is stuck with Sir Talks-A-Lot.
Janeen finds herself lost in the woods.
Eibo renounces his role as lead king.
And Yahri is curiously absent.
Induction Ceremony is right around the corner. But who has time to think when every petty grievance vies for your attention?
Stress is high on the morning of Induction when Kiru, Eibo, Yahri, and Janeen run hours behind schedule, leaving them to face impossible odds. Will these friends make it to the ceremony? But wait, hollon, what day was dat again?

Discover the bumbling slice-of-life adventure that awaits Kiru, Yahri, Eibo, and Janeen as they wander through their first week in Ehre.
This African American dialect piece combines a two-voice style that takes readers on a journey filled with candid emotion as it documents this group’s odd twist of fate.

Even though Ehre doesn’t exist I felt so at home reading this book. Like these are my people!!! To me this book was a rather large epilogue in the best way! I have so many questions that imma need the author to answer in the coming book(s) 😂😂

The author does a really good job of dropping hints of things that are important and moving on and leaving you begging for more and I loved that. This book is pure Black joy, there is action, some(very little) sadness, a whole lot of mystery and whole lot of Black love (family and friendship). There were tiny moments of romance and longing which as a romance reader it’s nice to see.

The world building and and everyone’s powers was so interesting and the author did an amazing job of describing things. I was definitely seeing everything in my head like a movie.

Out of the four friends I don’t have a favorite cause they’re all amazing and powerful and so funny. Whenever it was just them I felt so content reading them just being together and happy and in that castle! I need more!!!

I wanna say a huge thank you to the author for reaching out to me to read the arc of this book and I can’t wait to read more of your work!! 💛

*Please note my start/finish dates is not a reflection of my review. I am a working woman :)*

I have to begin with giving a major shoutout to the illustrators Asiah Fulmore and Anthony Ebengho.
We have the pleasure of following these characters: Kiru, Eibo, Janeen, and Yahri. This story is split into 16 parts and the initial one titled "Intruder." The beginning portion of the story is shown from (3) points of view told from Kiru, Eibo, and Janeen. The reader is wondering why and when the story will converge together. The characters itself eventually do but the story is consistently told in multiple viewpoints. It provides an in-depth look into the situations within the story and at the same time, it could cause slight frustration for wanting to know what's occurring next.

The incomparable four are in the town of Ehre for the induction ceremony due to completing a series of missions to grant them an abundance of wealth and prosperity. You're wondering if there's an impending caveat to this dream and trust me, there is (worth reading). Enter in Cinnabar, a character you're consistently wondering how much power he has, and slightly toxic just like the mineral. He provides necessary aid for the group but there's always a cost (society as a whole :( ).

In its entirety, the story encompasses grief, camaraderie, random child (don't ask), and a host of other themes. I do believe at times some scenes were drawn too much and could've been consolidated or another point of view wasn't necessary. I love the characters stood on their own with their personalities and they will grow on you especially Janeen. Any person identifying as a woman should feel reveled as Janeen does. I'm looking forward to the next installment and really hope Yahri's story is shown in the next book.

I received the ARC of this book.

It took me a minute to get into it.. I guess because this was my first fantasy book I ever read. I had to get use to the world building and everyone having powers.

But overall, I liked it. The friendships in this book is great. Can’t wait for next book!

This was my very first ARC and I’m thanking the author once again for this privilege! I’m grateful and honored to have received two copies (paperback and hardcover) of this debut novel. The cover is absolutely stunning and gives you a great visual of the characters and action that comes into play. I must confess I had a hard time getting into this story because I’m starting to think I’m not really a fantasy girly like that 😬 The action scenes were definitely intriguing and kept me wanting more. You definitely get the Zora Neale Hurston influence with the dialect but it didn’t necessarily contribute to the story. This book honestly could’ve been shorter and included more fight scenes. I loved the chemistry and relationships between the four friends. I did get confused towards the middle and end of the novel with new characters being introduced. I absolutely LOVE that there’s a glossary of terms included in the back of the book so I wasn’t completely lost. There’s definitely some unanswered questions and loose strings that I’m hoping gets explained in the next book.

This book has been such a great experience for me. I love being introduced to these characters and learning about their personalities and watching their interactions. They feel real, and they feel just genuine and unique. Their dialog is so relatable to my friends and family, and so refreshing to see in the pages in not just a few side characters, but them all. It is a very warm book.
My main concern was sometimes I found myself lost, and unattached to the world without understanding quite how it worked. How it was naming places on earth and Ehre, as well as having magic. I do enjoy the show don't tell, but it left me wondering where the differences between the two lay. This sometimes made me feel like I didn't understand the payoff for different plot points or was unaware of their resolution as I didn't know if it was unique to the world or if that was simply how things worked.
But I hope that does not determine hopeful readers, this book is worth it as the author grows. Her world is fun and worth knowing, and I will be looking out for the next one to see where this setup leads.

This would be really good if it had objectively critical beta readers or an editor. I loved the premise and I believe I would have loved the characters if i knew anything about them. A lot of the first dozen chapters started with the phrases "The woman", "The two men" etc.. Even after the characters had been introduced. It keeps the readers in the dark about silly matters and some sentences literally just refuse to end. I had to stop reading to maintain my sanity.
Hopefully, the author keeps writing and gets a better editor. I'm sad I didn't like this.

Very beautiful book! I was lucky enough to meet the author at Fan Expo SF, and I was immediately charmed by the world of Ehre and Victor's enthusiasm for her characters.

The slice-of-life style was a slower pace than what I am used to for fantasy books, but I grew to appreciate the way it brought me closer to the characters. It felt like getting cutscenes with one character at a time while things were happening in the background, and then understanding events by context. It was a joy being with the characters as they reacted to those events with snark, excitement, or pure badassery.

Spending time with these characters and their joy felt like getting a warm hug :) Very heart-warming to experience storytelling in this way.

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to come here and discuss my book, The Hidden Script: Enter the Kingdom. I am so happy to have created this series and to share the final product with you. The Hidden Script is about four friends who go on an adventure to be kings and queens in a new land. Book 1 follows their first week.

One of my ARC readers described Enter the Kingdom as an extended epilogue and an immersive intro in the best way possible. I could not agree more. This book is the first of the series and is meant to introduce you to the world and the many characters. It also gives you a taste of the concurring events and my unique writing style too.

This book hints at the different events to come, and it's one of the few instances where members of the entering royal class are all together at the same time. I look forward to writing more in the series and expanding on this great tale.
