I could not get into this one. It dragged a lot and the topic about sexual abuse of a male was very heavy. I like the writing style but the book as a whole was just not for me. I also did not know this was a series.

Rebecca has a blog that is quickly gaining popularity. Even the world’s top fashion magazine is taking notice. Rebecca’s boyfriend is the only one with concerns. Kyle has a haunted past that he refuses to share.

However, all of the skeletons come tumbling out of his closet when a woman from his past resurfaces. She is on a mission to get his attention and all Kyle wants to do is forget what happened years ago.

What We Never Say is available now.

Thank you to netgalley and mediagoddessinc for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Sometimes you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover. In this case, the pretty cover hid the fact that this really isn't a good book.

The book had an abrupt start like I was dropped into the middle of Manhattan street with the main character, but without the benefit of context or much exposition. Come to find out, this is the second book in a series. Sadly I hadn't seen or heard any mention of that until I was about 40% through the book.

Though the topic is compelling, I felt no connection to the characters therefore I felt little compassion or empathy. That's a shame because I think the author really could have done something good with this topic.

I really tried to like this book but I didn’t. I couldn’t get into the story at all. It was definitely lacking something important to the story. It just wasn’t for me.

What We Never Say is the fast paced second book in the Bold Journeys series a women’s fiction tale by Paulette. Make sure to read the first book Love, Only Better as the story continues on for Rebecca and Kyle. Paulette gives enough backstory in this book, so you don’t have to read the first one, but it does follow on and you are missing a lot.
I like Paulette’s writing style and after enjoying book one was ready to jump in. I enjoyed the first book but am a little torn with this book. Rebecca actions were a little disappointing to start with, she is getting to do her dream job but at what cost. She does however redeem herself a bit after a while.
The first book was more about Rebecca and her wants and needs but in this book, we get to learn more about Kyle. This tale is filled with lots of emotions, angst, disgust, drama, and lots, lots more.
Paulette handles a delicate and taboo subject well and unfortunately it is something that is not discussed enough. It is also a subject that not many thinks happen unfortunately.
Kyle has suffered sexual assault at the hands of a powerful woman, and it seems their paths are about to cross again. He finally has to open up and shares the shame and degradation he suffered with Rebecca, but she only thinks of herself. I was very disappointed in her actions.
I read this in about two days and really wanted to know what was going to happen and if Rebecca and Kyle's plan would work out.
I look forward to seeing how the next book pans out as I feel that there are some loose ends.
As with the first book I think this is one story that you will either really like or not.

So before I get into my full review, let me just say that I am not a fan of Rebecca's actions in the beginning. She learns that Kyle was sexually assaulted by a woman who worked for MOD, and yet she moved forward writing an article for them, and even going so far as to say that Kyle needs to support her in this. I get that without these actions, there wouldn't be a book, but for the whole book I could not get past that Rebecca did not respect Kyle enough to 1) not move forward with the magazine or 2) at least ask if he would be willing to share some more details, like the abuser's name, so she would know if she would be interacting with her.

Ok, now that I've ranted a bit about that, there are a lot of things I liked about this book. I liked how it brings up a lot of topics that don't receive a lot of public attention. I also liked that it focused a lot on Rebecca's new found confidence. It also seemed very realistic to me that Rebecca would get sidetracked with her passion and lose focus on her day-to-day job. I also liked the friendship shared between Leslie, Barbara, and Rebecca, as well as between the men in their lives.

Halfway through this book, I realized this was actually a sequel. I'd be interested in going back and reading the first one, because the topic of that book is the basis of a lot of the plot for book two. However, you get enough backstory in this one, that you can read this without reading the first one. I'm also interested in reading the next book, because I don't think everything was fleshed out by the end of this book.

Overall, I gave What We Never Say ⭐⭐⭐⭐. I read this in about two days and really wanted to know what was going to happen and if Rebecca and Kyle's plan would work out.

A bold foray into sexual abuse where the victim is male. Both lighthearted and haunting, Paulette Stout allows readers a glimpse into the other side of the story.

Here's what had me looking forward to reading What We Never Say. It's a look at one man's story of sexual assault. There are way more fiction books about women's perspectives with the #MeToo movement than men's. Although What We Never Say is a work of fiction, I was looking forward to understanding more about what the male character went through, the ramifications of it, and how he spoke up as a survivor.

I liked how author Paulette Stout opened the book with Rebecca's friend Barbara telling her to turn to a certain page in a fashion magazine and Rebecca going to a magazine stand to see what this means. Rebecca opens up the mag MOD to see her boyfriend Kyle featured there. Rebecca, who has been dating Kyle for a year and now lives with him, had no idea he modeled. The photo was dated 11 years prior. Why had he kept this part of his life a secret?

It was a strong opening that caught my attention and got me reading. But I was able to predict what was to come later in the book. And that was not the only time it happened. It would have been nice to have one or two unexpected twists.

Paulette Stout has a wonderful writing style. It is easy to read and flows between paragraphs, and from chapter to chapter. There is no awkward phrasing.

And the conversations are natural, enabling me to visualize the characters through the pages of What We Never Say. That was especially important for bringing a sense of realness to the main characters of Rebecca, Kyle, and Jane.

This book has been edited well, without awkward phrasing. It has a fast pace too throughout.

I think this novel had a lot of potential, and the author brought her A game with the writing style, but I think it fell short in a few ways. For example, there are unlikely coincidences that happen in the book. I won't divulge them as doing so would give spoilers. While it's fiction, I wanted the book to feel as real as possible, given the subject matter.

For the reasons noted above, I give What We Never Say 3 out of 5 stars.

This subject matter will not be for everyone. I am glad I read it. At the end of the book are resources for those who experience unwanted sexual experiences.

Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I knew nothing about this book before I read it. I just thought the cover was pretty. It was an easy read with an engaging plot line. It dealt with issues of male victim sexual assault, blackmail, and stolen identity all wrapped up within a "The Devil Wears Prada"-esque world.

Certain parts were a bit predictable, and the writing was sometimes redundant in places, but that didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story.

It does contain a small amount of language throughout.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Okay so boom. I'm just be honest, mkay? Okay great. I was thoroughly disappointed by this book. I wanted so badly to love it. SOOOO BADLY. It tackled a subject that not many dare to tackle, but babyyyy this book was FLAT. Everything was flat. The characters were flat. The story was flat. The entire thing was just....well, FLAT. The characters were all unlikeable in this story. Paper flat. Like so flat that if they turned to the side, they would probably all disappear. All of them lacked common sense.

And also...there's another book? This one says Book One on the cover, but it was obvious that this is book 2 if anything. Many of the details about them were left out, seemingly because they were included in the first book and we were already expected to know. I think I was about 30% into the story before I even realized that Rebecca was Hispanic. It was mentioned in passing. As if it wasn't completely new information to me, a person who was under the impression that this was a standalone story. Also, the personality of the characters seemed....ick.

For example, Kyle is rightfully upset that Rebecca is going to work for the same company where he suffered the literal sexual abuse that he confided in her about in the beginning of the story. Now you would think, if your significant other comes to you and says that a certain place/person/thing is triggering for them because of what they dealt with there, as their significant other you would cut all ties with that place/person/thing right? RIGHT? Well in this book's case you would be dead wrong. Rebecca basically, in so many words, said: "I mean that sucks for you but this is really good for my career so...maybe get over yourself?" which would be fine if it was just a jilted ex or a stressful work environment, but we are talking LITERAL SEXUAL ABUSE and she just brushes it off with a giggle and a shrug? Whet??

Relationship would be done. Right then and there. Done. Finito. Good bye. Adios. And everything else that means GET TF AWAY FROM ME.

They all made dumb decisions, honestly truly. I was upset that Kyle still had ole girl's number and picture saved in his phone after what she put him through. And she was able to just call him whenever she felt like it. Hi? Hello? Block the number. Tf? I'm not victim blaming at all, but there were so many times he handled the situation as if she was just a pesky ex-girlfriend and not a whole sexual abuser. Idk. It was suspish.

What We Never Say is the second book in the Bold Journeys series. This book picks up where book one left off so if you have not read the first book, I highly recommend that you do, or you may not understand the characters and their backstory. This story centers around Rebecca and Kyle who have now moved in together. Rebecca has a blog that is gaining in popularity and is asked by a major magazine to write a story. When Kyle finds out he is rightfully upset because he used to model for the magazine and was sexually assaulted by the magazine editor. It is a dark part of his past that was so traumatic for him that he tried to bury it and forget it. However, he is now forced to confront his past and come forward with what happened. When he tells Rebecca she is less than understanding and chooses to go forward with writing the article because it will be good for her career. Will Rebecca and Kyle be able to overcome this part of his past and move forward?

The author did a realistic job of approaching the difficult and sensitive topic of sexual assault on men. This is a topic that garners a lot of attention and support for women who have been sexually assaulted but there is little to no discussion about sexual assault on men. Due to embarrassment men keep this to themselves and do not seek help for fear of not being believed or being ridiculed. Rebecca’s reaction and lack of support towards Kyle’s dark past is one of the reasons men do not come forward. After reading the first book I knew that Rebecca was coming from a place of low self-esteem and was just discovering herself. She was coming into her own, trying to find her place in the world, and take control of her own life. At the same time Rebecca’s lack of empathy and support towards Kyle’s painful past should have been a deal breaker for their relationship. Kyle should have walked away but it was easy to see that he, too, had self esteem issues. It was a very complicated situation for both Rebecca and Kyle as they tried to navigate through Kyle’s traumatic experience. This book had love, hope, angst, despair, secrets, lies, betrayal, and sensitive subject matter.

This is the second book in the Bold Journeys series. I do really recommend reading the first book as the characters of Kyle and Rebecca are the main characters here as well. Whereas the last book focuses on Rebecca this one focuses on Kyle. The author deal with the sensitive subject of sexual assault against a male in a respectful way. It is a subject that isn't talked about much and it is good that the author has brought this to light and made it more acceptable to talk about.
We always hear of powerful men abusing their power against women but it happens the opposite way as well which most people don't realise.
When Rebecca finds out Kyle used to be a model she is angry that he didn't tell her but what she doesn't realise is that the smile in those pictures was a cover up of a lie.
At that time Kyle was suffering from abuse from a powerful women who threatened his career if he didn't bow down and do as she said. All these years later Kyle is still traumatised about this experience and has spoken to know one until now.
Now the past and the person of his nightmares has come back and wants to wedge herself into his life once again.
I must admit I was a little shocked and disappointed in Rebecca at first when she took the job working for the same woman that abused Kyle all those years ago. With everything that Kyle had helped and supported her througg in the last book i expected the same from her in this story which wasnt the case at the start but as the story goes on she does redeem herself.
This is a very emotional story full of anger, and shame.
Will Kyle ever work through his past? What effect will her return into his life have on Kyle and Rebecca's relationship? Will this woman be made to pay for what she did to Kyle? Now Kyle is read to speak out will anyone actually believe him?

My heart went out to Kyle all the way through this book as he struggled to come to terms with what happened to him and tries to move forward.

Rebecca, the protagonist of What We Never Say by Paulette Stout, has finally come into her own. For most of her life she has been insecure about her sex life. She ended up seeing a sex therapist and then decided to start writing a blog about her experiences of lack thereof. She gets noticed by a popular fashion magazine, MOD, and they ask her to write an article for publication.
Kyle, her boyfriend, is concerned about the article but does not want Rebecca to do it. He has secrets from his past he would rather not share. But he does with Rebecca. Turns out he was a model in the past and had been sexually molested by the head lady. Yes, I said lady. This "lady" gets in touch with Kyle hoping to rekindle their "relationship". Kyle is of course reluctant because of the scars the relationship left with him. He has had therapy and found out that he was not the only one with a history with his abuser.
Rebecca and Kyle concoct a plan to expose her. Kyle goes with his abuser to a Gala and exposes her with a tape that he had done in her apartment while getting ready for the Gala. What ensues is he said, she said scenario. Are Kyle and Rebecca successful? There are a few other characters in the story, including Kyle's sister, who is getting married but does not like Rebecca. Rebecca is included in the wedding party, of which she would rather not be, but she goes along with the dress shopping, rehearsals etc. The sister has secrets of her own and Rebecca finds out about them and wants to help her as much as she can.
This book is a sequel, of which I did not know, but that is ok. I enjoyed the story a lot as it was really about sexual abuse instead of man on woman it was just the opposite, woman on man. I think that the author handled this sensitive topic with empathy and a real caring for Kyle. This is not just another romantic book; it is so much more than that.
I liked the book well enough to give it 5 stars.

Wow! I have to say that I was quite impressed by the way Stout took this topic and ran with it. The abuse of men is often overlooked when the reality is that it occurs and goes unreported all the time. I was glad to see someone give light to the subject matter in a way that felt sensitive and honest. Even though this book dealt with some tough topics, it still contained a beautiful romance, a crazy bridezilla, great friendships and more.

Rebecca is a character carried over from Stout's previous novel, Love Only Better. I was glad to see her in a loving and satisfying relationship in this book. I'll be honest that I struggled with Stout's first book and was apprehensive going into this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised and fell into this story much easier. The characters were easier for me to invest in and bond to. Rebecca and her boyfriend, Kyle are in an unusual situation when she finds out he was the victim or actually let me say...survivor of abuse by a sexual predator in the workplace when he was much younger. It was something he'd hidden away and never told anyone. When he shares it with Rebecca, she's surprised that he'd never told her before. They have some small moments where it does come between them in their private relationship. Yet, I almost would have expected for them to have struggled with it more than they did.

Let me just say that I think the author did a nice job of handling a serious topic while still giving the reader some lightheartedness in the storyline. It's a good balance that allows the reader to feel entertained while still being exposed to subject matter that is rarely discussed. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

Kyle Dillon believes he has finally moved on from the sexual abuse he received from his boss when he was a model. Now, as a food photographer, Kyle has a steady career and a loving girlfriend, Rebecca. Rebecca had personal troubles of her own, but since therapy has overcome them. On the side Rebecca blogs about overcoming her troubles on Bedroom Diaries. Her site gains the attention of the magazine, MOD and Rebecca happily jumps into a new endeavor. However, she learns that the executive at MOD is exactly who hurt Kyle. Rebecca thinks there is no way that they'll be connected, but Rebecca's involvement with MOD takes a toll on Kyle. Luckily, Kyle is also going to counseling. The secrets that Kyle and Rebecca have kept come to a head as Kyle's sister's wedding approaches and soon become unavoidable.

What We Never Say is hard hitting contemporary fiction. Centering around male survivors of sexual abuse, but covering a wide variety of issues such as seeking help, female pleasure and reporting abusers, What We Never Say covers a lot of topics in one story. Opening right into the action as Rebecca discovers a secret from Kyle's past, the entire book carries a tumultuous undercurrent as secrets are revealed to the reader that not all of the characters know. Suspense was created as the consequences of all of the secrets began to unravel and affect the lives of every character. Each of the characters were very realistic and flawed in some way. While I definitely didn't agree with all of their decisions, it made for a fast paced entertaining read. In the end, everyone did receive the help that they needed and actions were accounted for.

First, this book tackles a really important topic, and I am glad that discussions of male victims of sexual assault are being talked about more openly. I also thought Kyle was well-represented as a man who must “appear strong.” The therapy scenes were compelling, and I’m glad they were included. The short chapters also helped the book flow well.

I was hoping that each character’s dialogue would become more idiosyncratic as the book went on, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. I also felt incredibly irritated by how insensitive Rebecca was of Kyle’s situation and forced him to support her, despite him obviously being traumatized by being sexually abused by who is now basically Rebecca’s boss.

Like other reviewers, I was a bit confused to learn that this was a sequel, although the cover of the book says this is the first of the Bold Journeys series. Knowing this is a sequel would have been helpful.

Finally, I felt like there was so much going on in this book — the different storylines, the switching POVs. I wish the book had stuck to just Kyle’s POV. As a reader, we would have had a clearer idea of Kyle’s feelings of franticness and being lost and avoid the predictability that came with having Jane’s POV.

Overall, I appreciate Paulette Stout writing about this topic and bringing more attention to it. There were certainly good parts of this book, but I was disappointed with the rest. Two stars.

Review:
Story: When I first started reading this book, I knew I would like it. I didn’t think I’d fall in love with the story. I will admit that I was convinced that I’d find parts really redundant and annoying. I am happy to announce that I was wrong on that. This book is so unique. It’s deep. I really loved a very important message that is highlighted in this story. I think it’s something that doesn’t get addressed enough. I get it though. Look at the struggles women face when they talk about it. I’m sure it’s worse for male victims.
Characters: Kyle and Rebecca are very happy together. Things couldn’t get any better. They are content with their lives. Then Kyle’s photo shows in a magazine Things completely change from there. They are still very much in love, but they find themselves with many obstacles in their way of peace. I really loved both of them. I loved Rebecca’s friends too. I didn’t really care for Kyle’s family. At least not in the beginning. My opinion changed towards the end.
Critiques: None.
Final Thoughts: My initial thoughts on this book weren’t at all a reality. I am so happy to say that I was completely wrong with my expectations. I loved this book. I loved the messages. I loved the hope that displays through the book. I really recommend this book. I will probably read it again at least once more in my life time.

This is an engaging and emotional read which had me captivated throughout, and yet again the storyline focuses on a delicate subject, but does so with sensitivity and honesty. The story continues with Kyle and Rebecca’s romance journey from book one, but this time it focuses more on Kyle’s past traumas. Kyle had been keeping his past in fashion hidden from Rebecca, but when her blog for women becomes a global sensation in one particular magazine, Kyle comes face to face with his painful past. Kyle has tried to forget Jane, who was and is the most powerful woman in fashion publishing, for the past eleven years, but the world famous magazine editor now has Rebecca’s career in her hands.
With Janes outrageous demands putting both Kyle and Rebecca’s reputations and careers at stake, as well as their relationship, the couple decide to go public with the truth about what happened between Jane and Kyle, but they are unsure if anyone will believe them. Having read and enjoyed book one I was looking forward to being back with Kyle and Rebecca, who are both likeable and relatable, and I was not disappointed. I liked how their relationship changed and developed throughout the story, and their chemistry was definitely still there and came across in the narrative. The plot kept me hooked and this was a real emotional rollercoaster of a read, but one which I definitely recommend.

Loving the cover art ! However , don’t let it me do lead you there’s something very different in between those pages and having read the first book in the series “ Love, only better” I was more than eager to get started on this read 🥰📚

Usually it’s woman who suffer at the hands of others wether it be at the hand of their loved one or employer and while it does happen to men it’s not something often women of so this was a big attraction for me ….not because I’m a sick puppy but because I appreciate that a taboo subject is being broached …..

We met Rebecca and Kyle in the first boom and Kyle was Rebecca’s saving grace and this time tomes are reversed 😉look I know he knew she’d support him but I also felt his anxiety and fear to share his experience….

So Kyles past meets up with his present unbeknown to them and when the dots are connected boy do we get fireworks and I typical fashion the aggressor looks for a scapegoat and tries to target Rebecca and name get out to be the bad guy but she who I shall not mention picked the wrong girl to pick a fight with !

I loved how supportive these 2 were of each other , i loved how a taboo subject was approached without emasculating Kyle but making him and his emotions and experience a very real thing and this is really a read I’d love to share with men and women alike 🥰📚

This work of contemporary women’s fiction handles this not often spoken of issue with tact and care. Men that have suffered sexual harassment or abuse often get forgotten. This tale of a proud survivor reclaiming his life and being a beacon of hope for others was beautifully written.

Kyle has hidden his past from the love of his life Rebecca. She has opened up about her struggles with intimacy and it has only made their relationship stronger. When she wants him to open up about his past, he is afraid his secrets will chase her away. When Kyle discloses what happened to him as a 19-year old, Rebecca doesn’t run. She supports Kyle.

Rebecca’s life is taking an interesting turn. Her blog that discusses her very personal journey to overcome her intimacy issues is becoming successful. It has even caught the eye of the icon of fashion and women’s magazines, Jane Stuart and MOD Magazine. Neither immediately understands their connection through Kyle. As the connection is revealed, Jane tries to save herself by painting Rebecca as the villain.

Kyle and Rebecca face all the problems together. Together is where they realize they should be. The author paints a wonderful portrait of families and partners supporting survivors of sexual abuse.

What We Never Say
A Novel Written By Paulette Stout
Fiction - Drama
Published 2022
343 Pages
⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book deals with a very serious issue- sexual abuse/assault.

Rebecca Sloane and Kyle Dillon are the two main characters. One of them is a victim of sexual assault which has been kept a secret. Despite living together and being in a relationship, the victim has not revealed the secret to the other. There is a focus on the shame and guilt victims of sexual assault/abuse face. The victim finally receives therapy after being honest about the assault. The abuser is in a high profile powerful position. This makes revealing the abuser difficult. To complicate matters, the other partner in this relationship starts to work for the abuser.

The author should be applauded for taking on a difficult subject matter in this book. There were a few subplot lines occurring in this book - family wedding, cranky bride to be. I’m not sure all were necessary.

What We Never Say is a complicated tale of ambition and the challenges faced along the way. Rebecca is the author of an anonymous blog, until she gets noticed by a major fashion magazine that would like to feature her work. The only problem is that her boyfriend Kyle has a complicated history with the editor in chief. Now Kyle has to make a decision about his past, while trying to protect Rebecca from scrutiny as well.

For me, this book happened in phases. The first half of this book I was a little bored. The story didn’t seem to flow, and it just didn’t engage me. The second half is when it started to redeem itself for me. I felt happy about the way that Rebecca and Kyle were able to support each other through the challenges they faced. But there were some tough themes here, including sexual assault, seeking therapy and help to recover from trauma, and blackmail and manipulation. If you’re ok with reading those topics, I’d recommend checking this one out. Overall I’d give it 3.5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Smith Publicity for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Drawn to a beautiful cover and a compelling plot, What We Never Say is an immersive, empowering and wonderful read. Rebecca has shed her cloak of being meek and people-pleasing, her growing confidence expanding through her blog explicitly targeting women. With an incredible opportunity to develop this on a trustworthy platform like MOD, her second career takes flight. MOD and Kyle have a long history, a buried secret of 11 years which results in Kyle being extremely concerned and protective. The secret is revealed in the second chapter, which is an interesting take as Paulette Stout tackles a crucial and less spoken subject. This book has memorable characters with distinct traits; their evolution is remarkable, heartfelt and uplifting. At times, I found the setting of the scenes a bit sudden, and I felt that I was supposed to have a pre-existing background of the characters as the book comes from the Love, Only Better world. However, this did not impede my reading experience. A 4-star read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Smith Publicity for giving me an ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.

This book tackled a topic we are hearing more and more about with the #metoo movement, but with a different angle we don't usually hear about: male survivors of assault/sexual coercion and abuse. This is a heavier topic (and one that deserves more attention), and the book has a more serious tone, but it is not a downer by any means. There are lighthearted moments, family drama, work-life dynamics, relationship dynamics, both romantic and friend/family/coworker, and portrays a woman (and man) who have overcome much adversity, to end up feeling more empowered. I had a harder time getting into it at first, but it did pick up and the second half played out well and went quickly. The villain is portrayed very well (you don't always see female villains). I did not read the first book with the main character Rebecca, but the author did a great job filling in any questions I may have had. Rebecca has a backstory, and it was well-written on the pages without any bumps of wonder (if anything it makes you want to go back and read the first book now) - so this book works well as a standalone. It was a good read and I recommend it

This is the second book in the Bold Journeys series continuing Rebecca and Kyle’s story. This again covers a topic which should be more openly spoken about, though different from the first – male survivors of abuse. As with the last topic the author covered it sensitively and respectfully.
I enjoyed continuing with Rebecca and Kyle from the last book (I would heartily recommend reading that one too) and seeing their relationship progress and how they tackle the difficulties before them. I really felt for Kyle in this one, having to face his past, particularly given what he went through is difficult, but he’s a strong survivor and remains open to love. His struggle feels very real, as does his course of action/reaction.
I loved getting to know more about Kyle in this one as it was what I had hoped for in reading the last book.
The characters are unique and well-constructed, each having their own characteristics and I could picture them vividly thanks to the author. The writing flowed nicely making for easy reading and I couldn’t put the book down.
I can’t wait to see which couple and which topics are encountered in the next novel!

Rebecca and Kyle are moving on

In this new book by Paulette Stout, we reconnect with Rebecca and Kyle, who have moved in together and are navigating a couples’ kind of life, including the wedding of Bridezilla, his sister, work challenges for her, and a place where each of their personal challenges converge.

Rebecca’s anonymous blog gets picked up by a major fashion magazine, which is run by a woman who sexually harassed and abused Kyle years ago, when he was a model. When the boss finds out that there’s a connection between Rebecca and Kyle, she sets out to manipulate this situation to her advantage. In the meantime, Kyle’s haunting history makes him pull away, Rebecca throws herself into the new magazine connection, and things are set up for a big fall.

Stout keeps the tension high while keeping the characters light. Once again tackling a complex and misunderstood social issue, she addresses the reality of workplace abuse with sensitivity, but lets the story create a momentum toward vindication.

Satisfying read. I really enjoyed this one.

What We Never Say (Bold Journeys Book 2) by Paulette Stout. I really enjoyed this book. It's a deep book about a very sad situation. There is sexual abuse talked about in this book so be aware. It's the story of Rebecca who is a writer and has started a blog that is getting a lot of attention, in fact a major women's magazine is picking it up. Everyone is so excited for her except for her boyfriend Kyle. He seemed really reserved about it. Kyle has things in his past that he's not proud of and doesn't want to talk about. When a person from his past brings out his secret he is deeply hurt. Rebecca had no idea that Kyle used to be a model and she is as shocked as everyone else. Will they be able to work out these issues from Kyle's past and not let it interfere with Rebecca's writing and their relationship? This series is a very good series and this book in particular deals with a very taboo subject. I love how this author handled it. I would recommend reading the first book beforehand so that you can get a better understanding of the characters.
