I finished the previous book in this series 10-ish days ago and did not care for it at all. I’m ofcourse not here to talk about that story again, but it is important to bring it back up because every point of dislike I had for Hatchet, was resolved in Spikes and improved. This was such a refreshment it got me excited to try more if the series continues!

I feel like the main characters are still a bit flat, but it fits with the length of the story (150 something pages) and the pace. The plot is fastpaced altho it runs over multiple weeks (seasonal change happens anyway) and the ending was better developed. I still found the developments in the case to be a bit too stuck-big improvement-stuck-ending but not to the point it was bothering. The supernatural hints in the story are better explained & there’s a nice plottwist surrounding the killer’s background + at the end.

Really refreshing to see the improvement from the first book, very curious to see how the detective’s backstory continues!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review, my opinion however is entirely my own.

Being manipulated through this serial murder mystery is part of the fascination and absorption into the unfolding events. The reader is switched from the viewpoint of State Detective Wesley Dawson to the perspective of the serial killer, not named to decrease the chance of a giveaway. With a story well told, the disappearance of one that becomes three leads the detective to solve these as well as cold case disappearances from years ago. This book has me begging for more from this author. Thus, I find myself manipulated again!! Love it, and so will any reader.

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. This is a well written story where the author used details that made the story feel realistic. The author's writing style brought the story to life on each page. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. I found this book easy and entertaining to read. The characters are relateable and engaging. They had me coming back for more. A story that has great growth throughout and full of action. This is a great story that I highly recommend.

I am so glad I found this author. I loved this plot. It’s an interesting take on supernatural/police procedures/medical thriller scenario. I loved book 1 and this one was just as good. In fact it wasn’t until the end that I realized I had heard of Lavinia in a Ghost Adventures episode. I love the author’s writing style. The plots are well thought out and developed. I can’t wait to see how it turns out between Wes and his sister, Sara.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.

I liked this better than the 1st book. Book 2 can be read as a stand alone. I felt the story flowed better and I like the relationship between Wes and Ali, she offsets him well. The mystery itself was intriguing and I really enjoyed the paranormal type elements. I look forward to more by this author

This is the first book that i have read by auth E.L. Reed and I generally don't read crime thriller but i decided to give it a chance. Spikes was definitely a page turner, I got through this book quicker than i thought i would. Olivia was a strange individual almost makes me wonder how she would have been if her fiancé didn't leave her. I do recommend this book.

This is my first book by this author and not a genre I usually read. I am so happy I took the chance as it is an amazing read that makes you pay attention to details and not put it down. I stayed up all night reading this one with my dogs snoring beside me. Great story line, characters, and attention to detail. Will be reading more by this author.

Oh, boy. I call this book a horror. I am a fan of dark, violent, horror. But, for some reason, this book really tore at my heartstrings. So many nice, innocent, unassuming men are no more. Why? Read this book. Not to smile. Not for an HEA. Not to feel good........
Look up Lavinia Fisher. I'd never heard of her.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems.

I found this story to be an interesting and suspenseful mystery as I was taken down the path through the eyes of the murderer and the investigators. What a diabolical and somewhat warped mind the killer has! Very intriguing and well woven story.
