By my reader's popular request, I wrote a novella to tell you Ella Ross’ story. It is shorter than the other books in the series, because of my tight writing schedule. However, I know you will love this delightful tale.
Winter brings harsh tidings to Evander Macdonald’s life. His father, the current laird of Clan Macdonald, lies on his deathbed and has two requests for his son. First, Evander must take the helm as laird. Secondly, he must marry while his father is alive to witness the nuptials.
With the weight of the clan on his shoulders, Evander reluctantly accepts his duty and blindly agrees to marry a local woman. But his childhood friend - now an irresistible woman - has other plans.
After breaking her ankle, Ella Ross is stranded at the Macdonald keep for the winter. Her misfortune turns to opportunity when she hears that Evander, handsome and strong as ever, plans to marry the wrong woman to honor his father’s dying wish. Now Ella is on a mission to stop this mismatched marriage and prevent Evander from making the mistake of his life.
But the laird’s health is failing, and Ella must act quickly to help Evander fulfill his oath of marriage without throwing away his future.
Bestselling author Hildie McQueen loves unusual situations and getting into interesting adventures, which is what her characters do as well. She writes romance because she is in love with love! Author of Romance in Highland historical, Western Historical and contemporary, she writes something every reader can enjoy.
Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from deliverymen while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.
Hildie's favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.
She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt, an unruly boy Chihuahua Pepito and a spoiled rotten girl Chiweenie named Lola.
Ella is the only sister of the Laird of clan Ross, and injured an ankle while visiting the home of her sisters-in-law. There she fell in love and annoyance with the future Laird of clan MacDonald. If only she can keep him from marrying the wrong woman…
This was a short romance that finished out the Clan Ross of the Hebrides series. Hildie McQueen has a knack for writing comfortable romance novels. This one garnered a solid three stars.
Hildie never disappoints! Evander must marry as his father is dying. Ella is recuperating from a broken ankle in the castle. Sparks fly! Tensions fly! The snark is strong! And a match making mama is afoot! This novella was a perfect addition to this series.
Evander & Ella. She is a Ross. He is the brother of Isobel and Beatrice. In book 2, the Rosses go to the MacDonald keep for Christmas (Duncan ran off to get his shit together). In the book, Ella hurt herself and broke her ankle. She had a long recovery and had to stay behind until she could travel. This book picks up while she is at MacDonald keep. Her and Evander like poking and annoying each other. But it is only masking their feels for each other. His dad is dying and tells him he wants to watch his son marry. Not really caring he randomly chooses a girl from his land Meagan despite her being a bore and him having zero feelings for her. One night she stops him and tells him not to marry her. They have a make out sesh and are caught by the maids and are forced to marry. They are both happy about the marriage. His dad dies and he takes over a clan laird. For being a novella, this went quick and had the romance I love to see that is usually eliminated in novellas by other authors.

Family, Making the Right Choice: The series continues with Evander and his father on his death bed wanting Evander to take a wife. The attraction between Ella and Evander is slow and takes some effort for Ella to take control and let her voice be noticed. It wasn't easy. The banter between the two kept things moving at a good pace. We follow their blossoming romance through some sad times, turmoil, undecided decisions, a shocking disclosure and more. I loved the story and characters along with all of the family. I could have used a bit more in the romance department, but it was still packed with a good story. The entire series has been really enjoyable, and I look forward to more. Love the cover:
Loved it! Ella and Evans we have such fun personalities! I would have been happier if it had been longer. Couldn't get enough of these two❤. I have to say that my ONLY complaint with these books is what I believe is the editing (?) I don't claim to understand the process for stories to be published, but in all of these there are many grammar errors. Also there are times when names or subjects are completely incorrect. For example in this story the younger Mclearly girls name changed from Rebecca to Rachael. Regardless, I'm a Huge fan of the stories😍
I’ve been reading this series and have enjoyed each and every one thus far. The Hunter was a good quick read while I was at the beach this weekend. I do love Hildie McQueen’s writings, but this one had just a couple of seemingly awkward sounding sentences to me. Most likely simple computer glitches in editing because that isn’t normally the case for Hildie’s books. She’s an awesome author and her characters are very appealing, both in characteristics and personality.
I'm not usually into Novella's because they are so short but I am happy the author wrote a story about the only Ross girl sibling, Ella. I liked her spirit and she was perfect for Evander MacDonald. Their mothers were friends so they knew each other from childhood. Evander liked picking on Ella and it irritated her. They both avoided each other but fate had other plans for them. This is their story. Enjoy.
I enjoyed this novella, it was nice to see where Bella's storyline was to go. I enjoyed the characters, but it was very brief. I would like to see the story expounded upon at a later time. It seemed as more of an extended epilogue than a novella.
I love this series, and the author is fantastic for continuing to add heartwarming, romantic stories. The only thing I hated about this book is that it was over too quickly! I love the way stories just go on and on. I would suggest reading it.
It was great to read Ella Ross' story. I was unable to put this book down once I started. I finished in one sitting. It was a page turner. I felt like I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and was sad to see the end. Can't wait to read the next.
Ella is amazing! I love her witty disposition and the fact that she is so self assured. Her banter with Evander is epic and their love story hilarious thanks to a meddling mother. An absolute delight of a story.
This one was the last one for me, I've finished the series and it was definitely one of the very best ones I've read. MS McQueen writes masterful stories of action, intrigue and best of all love ever after. Thank you for many hours of delightful reading
