When a steamy video lands in the wrong hands, their worlds collide as they never should have. With one video he thinks he has her all figured out? Does she have a surprise for him... Izzy Izzy Scarpa is a quick study. In the past ten minutes, she's learned that unwritten rules are there to make people toe the line. After a most humiliating meeting with her boss, all she wants is to walk out of this boardroom, but she has a new contract to sign—one that will derail all her future career prospects and everything she's worked for. If only she’d adhered to Bryce Sutherland’s simple rules… Rule #1: Don’t let your boss catch you in a steamy video you posted online, flaunting his company logo as if he were your biggest sponsor. Rule #2: No tears in the boardroom. Ever. Rule #3 (and this is one of her own): If your boss wants to screw you over, screw him over right back. In theory this works perfectly, that is until she falls in love with the human behind Bryce Sutherland’s cold, handsome façade…and has to make the hardest choice she never anticipated making in the first place. Bryce For Bryce Sutherland all decisions in life fall into one of two categories: good or bad. Every day he works hard to step away from his past and make good decisions, especially where his company and reputation are at stake. Rules make good versus bad decisions easy, and he likes to stick to them. Rule #1: His company’s interns are off limits. And that goes double when it comes to Izzy Scarpa. Rule #2: When that same intern makes a hot-as-hell video that lands in his inbox, company logo and all, don’t keep it. Or watch it on repeat. Delete, delete, delete. Rule #3: Don’t break rule #1 or rule #2 and be the idiot that falls in love with this gorgeous, feisty woman in the process. As for Izzy Scarpa…she might break more than rules and his bank account—she might just break his heart.
I write sensual, emotional, and evocative contemporary romances about good guys and bad girls and sometimes it's the other way around. Either way, happy ever afters rule! All my books can be read as standalone, although I tend to write about siblings. Follow me on FB and Instagram @sophiakarlson.
I must be a fish because this book hooked me, reeled me in, and then I died.
Summary After a revealing video of Izzy is brought to Bryce’s attention, he introduces a harsh contract that terminates her internship, withdraws her scholarship, and outlines a repayment plan for said scholarship. With nothing to lose, she rebuttals with a handwritten amendment that would allow him to use her as he pleases, and her internship and scholarship would be reviewed based on “key performance indicators.” Instead of accepting or rejecting the addition, he ignores it completely, effectively entering them into a stalemate. As they work together, tensions of all sorts simmer.
Review The Intern is engrossing. It has that special quality that no matter how low or high the stakes, makes you keep turning the page.
The main characters, Izzy and Bryce, are both likable. Bryce is complicated. He is generous, but once his company is threatened, he becomes cruel. Izzy is only trying to survive. With low funds, she does everything she can to help her mother and sick brother. The tension between them is EXQUISITE.
While not a slowburn in terms of lust, Bryce spends much of the book trying to rewin Izzy’s favor and right his wrong, which I absolutely loved.
At other points, the novel is rushed and even incomplete. Plots are introduced just to be abandoned. Even the epilogue (which you have to sign-up for the newsletter for) doesn’t provide many answers.
The Intern has charming characters, interesting plots, and wonderful tension. Sophia Karlson is an author I will be revisiting in the future.
Great age-gap office romance. It follows the story of virgin intern Izzy who is trying to raise money to help offset her brother’s medical bills and her boss, Bryce who has hard a life but has overcome his struggles. When they overcome their issues, they discover there is an undeniable attraction. Ends in a HEA for everyone involved.
This was my first book by this author and I was pleasantly delighted by this age gap romance! Izzy is an architectural intern for the handsome talented older Bryce. Bryce comes across an adult video starring Izzy that displays his company's name in the background leading him to meet with Izzy. Their lives become forever entwined when this meeting leads to both characters becoming impossibly infatuated with each other while fighting the attraction. I enjoyed the tension between these characters as it really developed throughout the book and was more than just lust. Bryce is a dreamy hero that takes care of izzy every way she will allow him while Izzy tries to support her family financially and shoulders heavy burdens to go along with that. I found both characters to be likeable and empathetic while enjoying the dual point of view. This is written in third person but that didn't bother me one bit. I'm defintely going to check out more books by Sophia now!
Bryce Sutherland’s brother is Ruben, who was the H in the previous book, The Neighbor. If you had difficulties or triggers with that one or The Shrink this is not as dark. Izzy Scarpa is a recipient of a Sutherland Design and Construction scholarship and summer architectural intern. She desperately needs the money to help her family as her brother is going through cancer treatments. Their story opens with him confronting her about a wee conflict with a side solo sex video job to earn extra money but she accidentally wore the company ball cap (logo and all) as a disguise and is fired and has to repay her scholarship. She needs the money and calls his bluff by showing up like nothing happened. That’s the simple explanation but emotions, attraction, vulnerability, protectiveness make it complicated to get to their HEA.
I loved the bond and connection between Izzy, her mom, and brother - them against the world. Izzy had a mountain of obstacles (maybe a few too many complications) but I was rooting for her as her determination balanced with her vulnerability. Bryce came off hard during their confrontation in the opening chapter but does a 180 and is a protective man who takes care of those he cares about (as we saw in The Neighbor).
This is the last in this series which can all be read as standalone stories. There’s a quick appearance at a construction site of Cash McGraw and mention of Raiden (One Sweet Summer).
An advanced reader copy of this book was provided by the author/publisher with no expectations and in no way influences my review.
The Intern is a Steamy Age-Gap, Office Enemies-to-Lovers Romance. And if You Love the Forbidden, Forced Proximity, Boss vs Employee Trope then this Book is for You!! It definitely ✔all my Boxes. The depth of Emotions I felt while reading this book!! So many..The Characters were written to Perfection! They came to Life, I felt their Pain and Joy! Their Chemistry was off the Charts 🔥🔥 So many Life Lessons Learned and Learning You Don't Always Know Everything As Well.. Definitely Your Next 5 ⭐ Read..
I was expecting this to be a quick steamy read but it was overly dramatic with a big slow burn. There were some editing mistakes and the plot can be very triggering but I enjoyed the book despite the many mistakes and times I rolled my eyes. If you’re looking for a slow burn with a ridiculous selling virginity plot, give this one a try. TW: sexual assault, sick family member. Steam: 3 out of 5.
I did not expect the plot to go so hard at the start with that video. Or the auction. Or cancer. Or the rape drugs from the other shitty coworkers. Or Bryce's history. At least Celia pulled through (minus the part where she wanted the rape stuff to remain secret so she could protect Sheppard). I expected her to turn into a raging jealous bitch. I also expected Shappard to show up as the stranger to the dinner and take advantage of the situation as revenge for his son. Lesson: never do personal stuff on a work laptop (seems obvious but needs saying).
Note to self about plants: - Touching his orchids was the last sin she’d committed before the death knell finally came. “They’re beautiful, aren’t they? They’ll probably all die now that Sheila’s no longer here to look after them.” “Ice,” she whispered. “One or two ice cubes each week is all they need.” For a long moment, she couldn’t move. Then she turned to come face to face with her nemesis. “Mr. Sutherland.”
Favourite quotes: - The boardroom had views over the city, and a huge mirror on one wall. Was that one-way? A chill ran down her spine as she stared straight back at it. Someone was watching her. - Somehow, the notion that he didn’t want to touch her was offensive in a way. She’d been snubbed. - She turned her head slightly, finally meeting his gaze. She held their connection, not dropping in shyness or flinching away, but staring at him with a challenge he didn’t expect to find. “I don’t have a boyfriend who needs to approve things, Mr. Sutherland. And the last time I checked, my body is mine to do with as I please.” - Bryce hadn’t disclosed the nature of Isabelle’s transgression to anybody. Aidan didn’t have a clue what this was about. He hadn’t told HR that Isabelle Scarpa wouldn’t be joining Sutherland anymore. (well at least he's not a total asshole) - Not once did she look up. Not until she reached the bus stop and, as a random bus huffed to a standstill, brakes squeaking, she got in without making eye contact with anybody. She tapped her Charlie Card. This was probably not even the bus she had to take for the easiest route home, but she couldn’t care less. At the back she found an open row and curled up in the corner. It still felt as if everybody was staring at her, disgust in their eyes. - Well, she had rule number three for him, and it was in the fine print: if your boss wants to fuck you over, fuck him over right back. - “I can multitask. I’m used to juggling things. Schedules and so on.” People’s lives. Managing Grant’s illness had made her a juggler of sorts. Between her and her mom they needed to think on their feet and make things happen. (relatable) - “Traffic should be fine.” Not that she would know. She didn’t have a car. The closest she got to traffic was the bus into the city. (also relatable) - “Have you seen enough?” her gaze had asked. “Do you get it now?” Yes, he’d seen enough, and he’d got it, all right. - Some time ago the music had changed from gentler string quartet tones to a deep pulsing bass that was really a whisper of something more carnal. - “Let’s get this party started.” What a kid. Jeez. What would make them grow up? Why grow up? It wasn’t as if they had any responsibilities. - His fingers trembled as he grazed her skin, wanting to make the bruises disappear. But they were still there when he checked again, and his gut twisted, ripping him out of the moment. Izzy seemed unaware of them, which was even worse. How many bruises did she have? - “My one intern gave my other intern a date rape drug on Friday night at a client’s housewarming.” Bryce pushed back on his simmering anger. “Ah fuck. You’re kidding me, right?”“No.” - Luke carried two laptop bags and as he dropped off the one at the empty desk where Izzy usually sat, Bryce’s eyebrows knitted together. She’d left her laptop bag with him on Friday night. - Was it Rohypnol?” Bryce asked. “Do you want me to lose my license by sharing confidential patient information?”“No, of course not.” It had been Rohypnol. - The pain was just a distraction, and he had no clue how many more mini-wounds it would take for him to heal. He had no ambition to cover his whole body with tattoos, but if that was what it would take, he’d do it. - You treated me as a mere body on a screen that day as if I, a human being with feelings, didn’t even exist. - “In a way, you’re not finished. None of us is,” Izzy whispered, and she turned into him to press a kiss to his lips, “and somehow that’s wonderful. Imagine we never got to move on, or away, or into what we are really meant to be. Imagine never evolving.” - I just wish I didn’t have to make any other decisions or choices outside of work. - “Try.” She shook her head and closed her eyes. After a long moment she sighed. “On the one hand, I have a ton of money, heartache, and misery. Potentially serious trauma. On the other hand, I have no money, potential rejection with a shitload of misery, unless it’s love.”“Okay…” He stared at her as he stalled. “You see my conundrum?” - My philosophy is to always choose good over bad, because every single decision has both sides to it, you just need to see which way the scales tip - Let’s just say the therapy you’ll need might wipe out all that money. Rejection is something you can get over or live with. Trauma…not so easy. I speak from experience.
Fav scene (in short): - “I only called you in to give you this.” Bryce headed in her direction, and for a moment she had his face in full view, reading his expression as it went from cold disinterest to concern, then he rushed towards her as everything turned black. - Bryce caught Isabelle as she crumpled and stopped her from hitting the coffee table. He pulled her close for a moment to make sure he kept his balance, thankful that his reflexes were up to speed and that he’d seen it coming. In his arms, she was light—too light—as her body gave in to gravity. He scooped her up easily, took a few strides, and laid her down on the sofa. (I kinda wanna pass out so i can have a main character moment at work) - She’d lost weight in the three weeks since their meeting, and she hadn’t had much to lose in the first place. As he removed his arms from around her body, he stabilized her head with his hand and studied her face. Dark half-moons rested below her eyes, and she was pale. - His mouth went dry. The things he wanted to do to her...with her. His thumb grazed her chin, just shy of her full bottom lip. He withdrew his hand, aware that she hadn’t given her consent for even this small touch. - Bryce leaned back and pressed his palms to his thighs, although all he wanted was to kiss her awake, softly, gently, like something from a movie with princes and princesses. Sleeping Beauty. That was the one. - She tried to sit up, but he held her down with a stroke of his palm over her stomach. - “Did you eat breakfast this morning?”“No.”“Why not?” She closed her eyes. “Can you stop scowling? At me?” - Three names were intertwined in delicate calligraphy. Grant, Izzy, Madeline. The capital letters curved and caught on the smaller ones, bringing the whole together. It meant something to her, but unless she offered the information, he wasn’t in a position to ask for it.
2nd fav scene in short (look I like elevators okay?): - “For fuck’s sake,” he grunted in a low voice. “These people have zero spatial awareness.” - When the elevator jolted mid-floor, her hands flung up for purchase and they bumped into each other, her hand on his chest, his arm pressing her into the wall. - “I don’t care about falling.” Bryce leaned even closer. “The claustrophobia will drive me mad first.” - This time he did, and as she kept whispering to him, he dropped his head. By the time she got to describing the flowers in the field, he’d pressed his nose to her temple and had loosened his death grip on her hand, only to guide it higher, to where she could brush his jaw with her thumb, as her other fingers teased the fine hair curling on his neck.
Funny moments: - How had she gotten herself into this situation? Stupid, dumbass Gen Zs. (do we really have to do the whole generation thing in books too?) - Eye color: fucking gorgeous just-imagine-me-sucking-your-cock-staring-up-at-you-with-these-babies in brown. She deleted everything and typed brown. Bad-ass brown. Next question. - “Don’t you have work to do, Luke? Now that you’ve been demoted and promoted all in one hour?” - Men apparently liked a noble cause behind their salacious fantasies. - “No pastries, so it shouldn’t be a long one.” He chuckled. “Quick learner.” - He was the spitting image of his dad, lanky, with a wide forehead, sharp nose and close-set eyes. - “Enough,” Aidan interjected. “You’ve hanged yourself already, Madison, no need to drag your corpse over to the guillotine too.” - He caressed her cheek, then said, as he interpolated a soft kiss between each word, “Virgins.” Kiss. “Shouldn’t.” Kiss. “Visit.” Kiss. “Auction sites like those.” Kiss. Kiss. Kiss. “On their.” Kiss. “Work laptops.” - Bryce gripped the edge of the chair that stood between them. “I’m good at behaving, Izzy.” He shot her a tease of a smile. “You’re the one we should be worried about.”
Fav smut moments (because this needs its own category now): - Watching a woman get off on the screen while she sat right next to him, in a prim grey suit, with long thick auburn hair brushing her arms, begging for a hand to twist around those strands and pull her close…even he hadn’t been ready for this. Visions of Isabelle Scarpa naked and spread wide open for him on the boardroom table charged through his mind. - He had to read them twice to be sure he got the meaning right the first time. One summer. You. Me. After hours. Whatever you want. Heck. During office hours. Whatever. Internship and scholarship to be reviewed end of August based on key performance indicators, which I’ll allow you to set. Signing this makes the rest of the contract null and void. Let’s see how much work we get done. xxx - every part of her begged for more - “Are you going to tell me what you want,” he murmured between kisses, “or are you going to let me give you what you need, baby girl?” - “Asking so nicely,” he murmured. “And how many times would you like to come, baby girl?” Cocky bastard. He just turned her on more. “Once, if you can manage.” (lol good comeback) - “It’s just a question of how much I’m going to enjoy edging your sweet pussy into submission.” He trailed a row of soft kisses along her jaw. “Just like you do in that video that’s been tormenting me.” - She opened her eyes, and her gaze was soft with spent lust. “There you are,” he said and leaned in to kiss her open mouth. She moaned into his embrace, and he cupped her butt and settled her on the kitchen island as her arms circled his neck. Her knees widened as he wedged himself between her legs, pressing his cock against her sex, seeking relief. Her breasts brushed against his chest, and he might just go there next. They came up for a breather and she whispered against his lips, “This doesn’t mean we’re even.”“No?”“I have a massive backlog.” - She bit her lip. All she wanted to do was to climb into his lap, cuddle into his chest, and let him gather her close to him. With gentle strokes on her back, he would wordlessly promise her that everything would be all right. - “Touch me already,” she whispered, somewhat breathless. - He splayed his fingers into the softest of hairs at the base of her neck and massaged her gently. “And when you say fuck me now, it must be what you want, in the full extent of the meaning.” - “Are you going to tell me what you dreamed about?”“You.”“And?” He ran his fingertips up the back of her thighs, and she shivered. “That. All of it,” she whispered. “And?”“More.” - When she didn’t answer, he slowly twisted her hair in his hand, fisting it just tight enough to make her look at him. “Tell me.” - I’m going to go down on you now, and you’re going to take it like the good girl you are.” - “And if you think I’ll let anybody else touch what is most precious to me, you’ve got quite a few things to learn, and I’m going to love teaching you all of them.” - “Are you going to stay like this for me, baby girl, or am I going to have to tie you down properly?” - “Since I got to watch you, I thought you’d like to watch me. Then we can call this even once and for all.” Because we both know this can’t happen again. (haha sure never again after 36 chapters) - other fav scenes above
This is a dramatic book. It feels very over the top in a lot of ways, and I definitely enjoyed it by the end. Being completely honest, I nearly DNF at the start because I didn’t like the scene where Bryce confronts Izzy about her videos. It felt overly harsh and really uncomfortable, and I didn’t like the way he shamed her for it – or the books general attitude towards sex work, which felt very shaming in parts.
But, I did like that the book acknowledged that Bryce massively overstepped in that scene and that he worked for most of the book to rectify his mistakes. I liked that Izzy was given the chance to stand up to him and tell him what he’d done wrong. The chemistry between Izzy and Bryce is super hot - their dynamic, overall, worked quite well for me. It’s super romantic in parts and the sex scenes are very well-written.
I will also say that a lot of the content in this book is very heavy. I didn’t expect that going into it. There’s some difficult stuff in here. Most of it is handled very sensitively, to me, but it wouldn’t be for everybody. I also thought the ending was very blunt - there was very little drama towards the end, there was no conflict, it just sort of finished. It wasn’t unsatisfying in terms of the romance, but I did feel like a lot of the external plot could have been wrapped up better.
Overall, this is a very sexy, steamy, angsty romance book - it’s over the top and I would recommend anyone reading it check content warnings because the content won’t be for everybody. But it hit a lot of notes for me. The chemistry was high and I think the author handled the angst very well.
Content Notes: Boss/employee, personal assistant, forced proximity, age gap, hate-to-love, bargains/deals/wagers.
Warnings:
Other: On-page sex, OW stuff MMC goes on a date with OW, nothing happens between them., age gap FMC is 22, MMC is in his 30s, not sure if exact age is specified., virgin FMC, virginity auction..
This is the first book I have read from Sophia Karlson & I must admit, it was pretty good. The dynamic between Lizzy && Bryce was really cute & Il loved the ending. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
A good story and good characters. Bryce is a refreshing billionaire that earned his money and came from a disadvantaged background. The story ended abruptly which was very disappointing. Several areas needed a collision that was missing. Another 25-50 pages could have resolved the open issues.
***I received an advance review copy for my honest review.***
This book starts off where Izzy has already made the mistake of creating the video that lands her in her boss's office. Izzy is trying to do the best she can. Although the video is salacious the reasons behind why she's doing it is so admirable.
Her family has had it hard and there seems to be no other way especially because she needs money sooner rather than later. But no one know what's going on in Izzy's life and how hard things are for her family.
The problem was when she created the video she had a hat on that covered her face but had her internships logo on it. Major fail! Now she has to see her boss and she has no idea what its about.
Bryce sees the video and immediately recognizes it as Izzy. He calls her in and is ready to fire her and take away her scholarship and internship, which terrifies Izzy since she already has financial problems.
He thinks he's knows everything about her and why she is doing what she's doing. And also he doesn’t want a bad rap for his company. His reputation is everything to him. And the reputation of his company is especially important because he built the company from the ground up.
Izzy strikes a counter offer and Bryce cant seem to deny her. He doesn’t take her up on her offer but he lets her stay as an intern.
As time passes and they get closer and closer Bryce realizes just how wrong he was about Izzy and the reason she created the video. And he feels extremely guilty. He tries to work behind the scenes to fix the things he messed up without Izzy knowing.
So I did enjoy this story as I do like the misunderstanding trope, and I like the back and forth between the characters and how Bryce started caring for Izzy.
He started falling before he even realized what happened. And I think she was always a bit in love with him and just never thought he could feel the same about her.
This was a good story and I enjoyed it, the only thing I think I would say is that nearing the end I wish the characters would have started talking more and getting things out in the open. I could understand why they didn’t do it in the beginning but they definitely needed to communicate more.
Overall good book and great storyline. I will be looking for more from this author in the future.
The Intern IS most definitely a very steamy age-gap romance. Sophia Karlson gives us her most sexy book yet in this series and I was there for every wonderful moment. The very forbidden attraction between Bryce Sutherland and his intern, Izzy Scarpa goes from zero to sixty as her very private life is exposed in one very erotic opening scene. From there it's beyond difficult for either of them to not want the other as their lives get more complicated with each turn of the page.
I love that Karlson doesn't just give us a love story. Instead, there are many layers to this storyline that add a richness you don't always find in contemporary romance. Izzy's life is beyond intense and yet the young woman is as selfless and capable as they come. With what she is dealing with at home and the fight to best a fellow slimy intern, Izzy has more than most could handle. Bryce does what he can behind the scenes and I really appreciated how much he slowly changes his ways since Izzy came into his life.
Although their attraction is immediate these two do a delicate dance in order to keep any possible relationship a secret since they are boss and employee and ultimately make this book quite the slow burn. But when caution is thrown to the wind even when it might be the worst decision for both of them, watch out! The heat they radiate was insanely intense! Bryce and his baby girl are pure fire together and I was hopeful as they grew closer together that that flame wouldn't be doused by all that they were handling both professionally and personally.
As Karlson offers up Bryce's own secrets, ones that had huge effects on his life, he and Izzy find themselves falling for one another even harder and it's very touching to see him open up for the first time in his life. His brother Ruben, who was featured in The Neighbor, continues to be his rock and sounding board and contributes to seeing the softer side of this uber-successful man.
Overall, The Intern was extremely satisfying for me as I continue my love affair with this talented author's words. Featuring fabulous characters and the love that ultimately saves them all, I happily give The Intern a huge 4+ stars!!
✦Standalone MF workplace, age gap, billionaire romance featuring Izzy, an architecture intern who is finishing her degree, sponsored and paid for by Sutherland Construction and its enigmatic CEO, Bryce Sutherland.
She’s a cam girl to boost her income to pay for her brother’s hefty medical bills, but in an epic misstep, the company logo is visible on her cap at the end of a video, and he finds out. Cue so much drama!
✦POV: Dual, third-person Izzy pulls a fast one to escape losing her internship (and having to repay all the funding) which was super clever; I never would’ve been able to think that fast under such stress. I felt for her- she’s carrying a heavier load than anyone her age should have to, and it made me cheer harder for her.
Bryce ticked me off, but I get it; it’s his company and he wants to protect it. As I learned more about his past, I warmed up to him and wanted to see him find happiness with Izzy. He’s broody and I can’t help loving that in an MMC. He’s got swoon in spades, and his gestures made me melt.
The banter was fun, especially since Izzy gives no Fs about sparing him her sass, despite the obvious power imbalance.
✦Spice: Open door, explicit Classic Sophia slow burn tension. He thinks she’s more experienced, but she’s been holding out for someone who’s worth it. He’s had it bad since the day he granted the scholarship and watching her in that video burned itself into his brain. They need each other and watching it unfold was delicious.
♡ I was hooked from the moment Bryce confronted Izzy in the boardroom, and she made her power play. Sleep be damned!
⚠️ Attempted SA by side character(s). Otherwise, please check warnings.

As an ARC reader I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily wrote an honest review. Here it is.
Rating: 4,5 (of 5 stars).
In general: Office love-hate relationship .
Main characters: - Isabella ‘Izzy’ Scarpa (22). She is from a poor family. Her brother, Grant, needs a chemo treatment and her mom is jobless for she has to care for Grant. Her dad died a few years ago. Fortunately she got a scholarship from the Sutherland design and construction company for her architecture study. For this study she now works as an intern at the Sutherland company, so she can pay the bills for her family. She has a secret crush on her boss, Bryce Sutherland.
- Bryce Sutherland (ca 35). He built his own construction company from scratch as a young man. Now he’s the CEO of his very successful firm. He too - secretly - is physically attracted to Isabella.
The relationship between the two main characters becomes complicated when Izzy tries to make some extra money by getting on internet with some porn in which she plays the head role. Bryce discovers that her porn site connects his company with her sexy performance. He tries to fire her but - attracted to her - hesitates too long. So Izzy stays his intern. Then the author, Sophia Karlson, describes how their cooperation develops in a love-hate relationship in which the love gradually wins. Sassy dialogues between two strong, wonderful main characters, much teasing from both sides, complicated business and family problems plus some sweet love scenes made the book an easy to read page turner that was hard to put down.
The Intern is by Sophia Karlson is steamy age-gap office enemies-to-lovers romance novel. Fans that love the grumpy/sunshine boss vs employee trope will adore this book!
sabelle ‘Izzy’ Scarpa is an architectural intern at Sutherland Design and Construction. She is a scholarship recipient and nearing the end of her program when everything is derailed after being caught in a humiliating video. Her boss, Bryce Sutherland, fires her on the spot and demands she pay back the total amount she received from the scholarship program. Izzy and her family struggle to make ends meet and she desperately needs this job. Her brother’s life hinges on being able to afford healthcare to treat his cancer. Bryce is the typical alpha-hole boss that doesn’t take Izzy’s life circumstances into consideration. Luckily, Izzy has nothing left to lose and turns the tables by putting Bryce in a compromising position.
Izzy is a very likable female main character. She is family-focused and will do whatever it takes (including making steamy videos to sell) to provide for her mom and younger brother. She doesn’t give up easily and I loved that she was daring. Bryce was a jerk for the first portion of the book but he really came around when he realized that there was more to Izzy than anyone realized. The author did a great job giving the reader insight into Bryce’s mind with the dual POV’s.
I could not stop reading. My kids ate cereal, my laundry baskets are full, my floors need a vaccuum but I finished every page.
When your boss not only sees your online porn videos but makes you watch them with him in the boardroom at the office-that's bad. But when you're both turned on by it is that worse or better?
The angst, the sizzle, the chemistry-you will feel it while you're reading.
I've read every Sophia Karlson book and this one just took the top spot. It has it all, age gap, office romance, porn, virginity for auction, cancer, roofies, a dirty talking possessive yet romantic hero and a tough, fight for her family, do whatever it takes heroine, and this urgency to turn the pages and see how it's all going to turn out. What will she do? What will happen?
You're going to love Bryce and Izzy and you aren't going to be able to put this one down.
1. Get this book! This book will leave you smiling. Bryce. It starts will a busy CEO that fires this sweet overwhelmed younger Intern, Izzy Scapa dealing with her concerns of commitments and being spread to thin earning money every way she can. She makes a youthful mistake and he pounces. From the next bold move she says NO! She forces him to back down and give her a chance and he's well within his power to give her nothing. His background comes in helpful when she is taken from a party against her will and before she loses her wits she calls the boss and he's trying to find her at a large mansion and then he hears the people that took her, laughing and he's screaming "Hang on, I'm coming, Dont touch her" The adventure to keep her safe from everyone, including his heart begins and this may be the part where everyone's life is changed. Can he care about this girl and her insurmountable problems and what this could do to his reputation and standing in society along with the money its gonna take to extricate the world thats crumbling in around her. This author gives you enough adventure, misadventure, humor, bravado and courage to keep you guessing till the end. Available also in KU. Enjoy!!
What a romantic Bryce is. He feels realistic. He tries to keep work at work and pleasure in his mind when it comes to Izzy. Also when he messes up he owns it, embraces it, resolves to fix it and not repeat it. I admired that about him. He learns from it.
Izzy is a talented intern at Bryce's company. Although there is a large age gap between her and Bryce she still feels deep emotions for him. What held me back from liking her was her indecisiveness. It drove me crazy. But in the end she gambled it all for love and that was the right choice for her and Bryce.
I enjoyed reading it and do recommend it.

Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read Entertaining Happily Ever After Romantic Realistic Steamy Unpredictable
I wasn’t expecting what I got! I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. This is not your typical boss/employee story. I loved this plot of seeing both main characters broken and then put back together. We see that Bryce and Izzy have similar backgrounds. We watch how they overcame the obstacles to achieve what they wanted out of life. I loved watching how Bryce slowly started changing his ways. Izzy is such an amazing character with all she’s going through. Their chemistry was a slow burn buildup that exploded towards the end. What I didn’t like was a doctor trying to cover up a serious crime because she’s related to that person’s family. Overall a great read and I will be going back to read the previous books in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
This was my first book of Sophia’s and I wasn’t disappointed - what a fantastic read. So much so I read it in one sitting.
The book revolves around two main characters Bryce - who is a very successful businessman and Izzy who is his intern and how their relationship develops.
Sophia does an excellent job of creating characters that you really want to get behind and support showing them from all different angles such as strong and caring to vulnerable and misunderstood.
Whilst not overly explicit the sex scenes give just enough detail to add a bit of raunch to the story and the implication of a slight dominance in play which was a really enjoyable angle.
I’d definitely recommend giving this book a read and now I intend to go read more of her books.
Brilliant.... loved it. I received an ARC copy of this book via Hidden Gems and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. Sophia Karlson is a new author to me and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to read her new book. CEO and older guy Bryce falls in love with his much younger intern Izzy. Izzy and her family were down on their luck and struggling to cope with her brother Grant's spiralling medical bills. An anonymous donor steps up and takes care of things, but Izzy and her family are unaware of this until Izzy goes to meet her successful bidder on a date! Throughly enjoyed reading this book and would love to read more books by this author.
Ever been attracted to your boss? Quietly and patiently for years yearning and longing for someone you desire? Young and in your 20’s and doing desperate things to make money to take care of your family is admirable but also sad that some things like medical care are not affordable. Nonetheless I wish that sometimes as adults we could communicate so much more than we do now. Anyhow love realized even though painfully sometimes and it works out. Secrets shouldn’t be kept but when realization hits you and things come together it’s wonderful. You can find love even when you didn’t know it was what you were looking for.

The story of Bryce and Izzy has all the elements of a great romance. He is a successful architect, but building up his company has taken all his time and energy, making him miss out on a fulfilling relationship. She is a young, inexperienced intern - but not so innocent. From the moment they meet, the friction between them starts to build, but will Izzy’s family circumstances and her desperate actions drive them apart ? As always, Sophia Karlson has hit all the feels - an easy read with lots of steamy scenes, a good few laughs and also some heartfelt tears.
I received this book in exchange for a review from the author.
I really enjoyed this age gap, boss romance. While there are dark underlying themes hinted at, it was still a very good and easy read.
I do prefer a bit more dark in my romance and wish the author would have gone into a bit more with those topics and their impact on the characters. However, as a romance novel, it was very good.
I would give it a 2/5 for spice but I loved the plot.
Overall, I really liked the authors writing and would read their books again!
This steamy age-gap romance is entertaining and engaging with defined MCs who have an attraction to one another. The chemistry flares to life and is impossible to ignore, even with a less than auspicious first meeting. Dire circumstances force our heroine to do something drastic and she is determined to complete her internship, studies, and help her family. When the truth is revealed to the hero, his demeanor drastically changes. I read this book in one sitting. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
This has some seriously emotional moments so prepare some tissues! But also some very funny ones so that balances things. The story is different from a straight up virgin auction in that it goes on for a large portion of the story online, while the two main characters get to know each other. And fall in love. The push and pull constantly between them is fun and sometimes frustrating. But at the end of the day we get to read their happy ending. Sigh.

Moving romance It's an excellent romance, all rollercoaster on the emotional side. I loved the character of Izzy, prisoner of her situation, but also the character of Bryce, the dastardly boss at the start, who is just as exciting and intense. The story goes through various phases between them, and I found those passages that are both joyful and painful to be very moving. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
