Emily Brown, a six-year police veteran, upends her life in California after her ex-husband moves himself and their eight-year-old daughter, Amelia, to a small, rural town in Beaker Point, North Dakota. But before Emily can unpack her suitcase, accusations fly when their daughter goes missing. With Emily pinned as the main suspect in her daughter’s disappearance, she must uncover the truth this small town has kept hidden before it claims another child.
I think the author needs to re-read her own books! jeez. How can you not see all the mistakes? The story wasn't all that great. The characters didn't even stand out.
This is the best book so far in the series. Held my interest from the start. The characters were so well developed and believable. I would say about three quarters of the way through I was able to figure out who did it but the way it was written still held my interest in what was going to happen next. I really like the character Emily. Her desperation and anger towards finding her daughter no matter what felt real to me. The added plot about a corrupt Police Chief was a bit disappointing. He should have gone to jail for what he did.
Just as a young wife moves to a small Dakota town and takes a position on the police force her child is kidnapped. Read how corrupt the police force is and how hard it is to get help. The protagonist has to find her daughter before something bad happens to her.
It was an interesting story and well written and the only complaint I have is the promo had it set North Dakota, and then it talked about the father dragging them to South Dakota. Late they are back to North Dakota. Who ever edited it miss this. I'm sure the author meant it to be set in North Dakota.
