Can a retired naval commander and the love he left behind overcome a 34-year-old secret to find their way to a second chance?
Captain Mitchell Greyson is a man who believes in duty. A bigger purpose and a thirst to prove himself took him away from his tiny Tennessee hometown--and the girl he loved--more than thirty years ago. After a distinguished career in the Navy, Grey's headed home, searching for new purpose and a glimpse at the road not traveled.
At the tender age of eighteen, Rebecca Ferguson made a choice that changed her life. Since then, she's had joy, regrets, and an ugly divorce, but she never forgot the love who walked away. She definitely never expected him to move back to town more than thirty years later, or for all the sparks to still be alive.
One look and Grey's all in, determined to earn a second chance at the love he left behind. The duty that took him away is over, but Rebecca doesn't know how to trust that he's home to stay, especially when the secret she's held onto all these years is closer than he thinks...and it has the potential to destroy their fragile new beginning.
Kait Nolan is a RITA® Award-winning Mississippi author who calls everyone sugar, honey, or darlin', and can wield a 'Bless your heart' like a Snuggie or a saber, depending on requirements. She believes in love, laughter, and that tacos are the world's most perfect food. When she's not writing, reading, working the evil day job, or wrangling family (both the two-legged and the four-), you can find her obsessively watching The Great British Bake Off.
This novella is a part of the Bad Boy Bakers series but can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in third person from an alternating dual POV. I am so happy that Rebecca got her HEA. As Jonah’s mom, she has been an important support to each of the characters in this series. When her first love returns to town, things get interesting as he seeks a second chance at a future with her. Her secret is revealed, and emotional moments happen as everyone comes to grips with the new reality. Rebecca has been a wonderful character throughout the series. She is strong, and she has survived a lot of heartache to be the successful and complete person she is. Grey is a wonderful hero. He is an all-around good guy. After retiring from the Navy, he returns to his hometown to try for a second chance with Rebecca. I love how he romantically pursues her. I love his steady presence when Jonah needs it. This was a swoon-filled book with a few steamy moments. I adore that this couple in their early 50’s finally gets the HEA they always wanted. I love their mature relationship and how they handle things that come their way. I really like the way this book wraps up the series. The bonus epilogue also sets up the author’s next series and I am excited to read it. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
Great finish to probably my favorite Kait Nolan series. This story had my favorite trope (second chance) and my other favorite trope (which I won’t say because I don’t want to spoil anything!) - which was a surprise, but sort of not…I have been listening/reading this author's books for a long time, after all. 😉
There was one thing I didn't like about the story, and it's more a ME problem than anything: I pretty much, categorically, dislike nicknames. And the hero called the heroine a silly nickname through the whole book. But otherwise I enjoyed the story.
The narrators in this book were great - Amy McFadden has narrated all of Kait Nolan’s books, and with this series they brought in male narrators (even though the whole book is told in third person POV), which totally elevated the stories. Ryan West was great as the hero and had the perfect mature voice for the character.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the next series - I already have the prequel downloaded on my Kindle, and I was kinda set up in the bonus epilogue for Caught Up With the Captain.
Becca may have only been a teenager when she fell in love with Mitchell however that didn't make her feelings any less real. She was hurt when he left to pursue his dreams, but she moved forward with her life which included a divorce and children however she didn't' expect him to reappear three decades later.
Mitchell has dedicated his life to his career but now that it has come to an end he wants a second chance with the only woman he has ever loved. When he reunites with Becca the chemistry and connection between them is stronger than ever but will it be enough to overcome not only the past but the surprises in the present as well?
This is a heartwarming story about love and family. Neither time nor distance could diminish the love they shared and I enjoyed seeing them fight their way back to each other.
Rebecca & Grey’s story began fine. Then it became straight up melodrama, and I found my attention wandering. It was just all right, but the kept secrets that were supposed to be explosive were easily guessed at early on, so there was little suspense. Also, the author offers a “warning” of sorts about language and the fact that her H & h engage in premarital sex, and I’m left scratching my head, as in who is her intended readership demographic? It’s just strange. Finally, there is a bit of repetitiveness to the writing that feels as if this was either rushed or pieced together from other works. Overall it didn’t meet my expectations.
I happen to love every single book Kait Nolan writes. Every different series, small town, etc. But, I think this may be one of my favorites because I can relate. I am also 50 and I very much enjoyed reading about 50+ people and their concerns as they fell in love. How they navigated the changes in their bodies and everything else related to aging. We are not all spry 20 and 30 year olds!!
The Bad Boy Bakers is a good series and a great addition to Misfit. My heart will always belong to Wishful, but I enjoy this town too.

I always have high expectations and Nolan has rarely disappointed me. I was eager to read this book, too, because the characters were closer to my age group. Perhaps that was the problem. I couldn't suspend my disbelief. Rebecca has been a strong, capable businesswoman and fierce mother in this series. So her complete breakdown seemed melodramatic and over the top. As a former member of the US Army, I know that the red tape would never have been cut through in a week. I could easily predict the story secrets, which doesn't generally bother me. But adding that to these other shortfalls means I only found this story "okay." I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kait Nolan is back with her Bad Boy Bakers series with a brand new book. This was a second chance romance that was more than thirty years in the making and I was here for allllllll the words.
Caught Up with the Captain gives us Rebecca and Mitchell’s story and y'all, this beauty was quite the book. Packed to the brims with all the heart, heat, and soooo many old feelings resurfacing in a big kind of way.. Nolan takes her readers on a journey riddled with ups, downs, complications from the past, and quite a few unforgettable moments.
I've not read every book in this series but I had no issues following along with the ones I have. I've definitely added the others to my tbr.
A good old second chance romance. When Grey and Rebecca were young and naive they fell for each other but couldn't get on the same page. Their brother of the heart stepped in without either of them knowing the full extent of what he was doing. Lots of hurt and assumptions kept them apart. Decades later they have a second chance. Big secrets are revealed but you have to read it to find out what happened. A great closing book for this series.

Things I Liked: -seeing more of the “bad boy bakers” and their families -how obvious it was that Grey has always loved Rebecca -that the author didn’t write in a past love-triangle (between Rebecca, her ex-husband, and Grey) -that Grey was always looking out for Jonah and cared about him before he even found out Jonah was his son
Things I Didn’t Like: -that Rebecca didn’t tell Jonah and Gray about Jonah’s parentage herself (they had to find out by overhearing a conversation between Rebecca and Rachel) -how easily Grey forgave Rebecca for not telling him as soon as they got back together (he let her off way too easily) -Jonah should have been best man instead of a “bridesmen”
Things I Would’ve Liked To See: -more time between when they found out the truth and Jonah calling Grey “dad”. This was odd to me as they knew each other before and I would think it would be harder to come to terms with that revelation as an adult (and thus, take more time for the title of “dad” to be used)

Once again my favourite author has written a book that when I turned the last page I was left with that feeling of "Aww, I need more". I think it's time to look at the Eden Ridge timeline and binge read them all again.

Having read Mixed Up with a Marine, Wrapped Up with a Ranger, Stirred Up by a SEAL, and Hung Up on the Hacker i couldn't wait for more from this series! I've been looking so forward to this story ever since i reached the end of the last installment. I enjoyed this story so very much!
Oh how my book loving heart was so very happy to return to Eden's Ridge, Tennessee once again!
Rebecca and Grey's journey pulled me in right from the very get go! More than thirty years have passed since Rebecca and Grey have seen each other. As these two are reunited, will they ignore their hearts truths? Or will they find a way to take a chance together?
I was so glad that Rebecca got her own story! I really liked how Rebecca and Grey had history. I didn't know how they'd handle things from the past as well everything in the present. Rebecca was such a wonderful character and she had such love for those she cherished in her life. I adored Grey and the way he was with Rebecca, especially when it came to the little things. 💗The chemistry between these two was undeniable.
Many moments between Rebecca and Grey got me right in the heart. There was such a breath of fresh air realness to both of them that i thoroughly enjoyed. It was so awesome being back in this world and reuniting with characters!
With Caught Up with the Captain, Ms.Nolan has created a great and heart filled ending to this series! This series and it's characters have all brought me such happiness and so many feels. If you haven't dived into the Bad Boy Bakers world, you so need to! I can't wait to read more from this author! 💙
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Wowww... first of all, this book is the last book of the Bad Boy Bakers series so I feel like this is a sweet gesture of Kait Nolan to find everyone in this series their own happy ending especially Rebecca who is like a mother figure to all of those bad boy bakers even if the 2 of them aren't her biological sons.
The story continues from a reunion of 2 once-upon-a-time lovers when Grey who was Jonah's captain showed up at his shop and Rebecca turned up to there too. Grey and Rebecca had been best friends since they were children but they felt a chemistry and became lovers next. They were young but Grey had his dream. They broke up because Grey enlisted and never met each other since.
If you are a fan of Bad Boy Bakers, you will know about a situation of Rebecca and Jonah's father. Rebecca has built her own life since and she is happy with her 2 children finally found their happy family. When Grey shows up after 30 years, her world is shaken.
After Grey retired, he wants his second chance with Rebecca... and he has his suspicion on something so he plans to root himself at their small town.
I enjoy reading all Bad Boy Bakers act like they're Rebecca's guardian and I can't deny that Grey is a swoon-worthy one. The story's quite angsty because Rebecca has a secret. I totally agree with Grey that she isn't an only one to be blamed and she did what she thought it would be best for her at that age. At the end, everyone is happy with the result and Grey and Rebecca finally get their second chance. Aside from Rebecca's secret, this book is still sweet, steamy, and heartwarming in Kait Nolan's small town style. I am going to miss these Bad Boy Bakers' crews but I'm also excited for Kait Nolan's new series!
Caught Up with the Captain by Kait Nolan by Kait Nolan, book five in her Bad Boy Bakers series, is a wonderful, heartwarming second chance story featuring former Navy SEAL Captain Mitchell Greyson, Grey, and Jonah’s mother, Rebecca Ferguson. Growing up together, they were the best of friends, high school sweethearts, and first loves, until they wanted different things from life. Now in their fifties, they are given a second chance to rekindle that lost love. Rebecca never forgot Grey, though she married their third musketeer after Grey had left. Divorced, she stayed single, never forgetting the young man who owned her heart but left her behind when he enlisted in the Navy. Grey never forgot the gal he left behind despite the distance and demands of his job. Now retired, Grey is determined to return to the small town he grew up in, create a transition camp for soldiers, and reconnect with Rebecca. As Rebecca and Grey reconnect, they have issues to resolve along with a major secret, that when revealed did not surprise Grey, but upset more than a few people.
This was a lovely story about second chances for an older couple; watching them get to know each other again. It was also a wonderful getting shown how the earlier characters in this series, have settled and succeeded in their new lives. It is the perfect conclusion to this much loved series. I highly recommend Caught Up with the Captain to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Another wonderful installment, likely the last one, in the Bad Boy Bakers series. This time, Joshua’s mother, Rebecca, is reunited with a childhood friend and lover, Mitchell Greyson. Things are complicated in this second-chance romance, and a lot of years have passed since they’d last seen each other. Even more complicated is the fact that Greyson (Grey) had been Joshua’s commanding officer when he’d been in the Navy. There are hurt feelings, confusion, and even a secret or two.
Grey is also working at getting a project underway to help military veterans transition back into civilian society. He has to get government approval before he can move on with the project. It's a big project, and he has to find property to build it. That piece of land just might hold the secret to his relationship's past with Rebecca.
This book kept me turning pages and hoping things would work out well for everyone. It left me feeling happy and wishing that this wasn’t the last book in the series.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reaction to reading this book.
Caught Up with the Captain is the fifth book in the Bad Boy Bakers series. It can be read as a standalone but to really and truly learn to love Rebecca the right way, you want to read the other books. Rebecca has been a present figure throughout this series and she is absolutely wonderful. We all knew—or had—a surrogate mom like this growing up and she fits that role perfectly. She is sweet and charming, loving and as maternal as the day is long. She’s strong when she needs to be, giving her boys and girls a kick in the pants when needed, but she is a MOM, period. Rebecca and Gray have known each other forever, but when he returns to Eden’s Ridge it feels as if it was a lifetime ago. It was but when these two are together it feels as if no time has passed at all. Even though we know they parted on bad terms, I love how every time they’re together on the page it feels like old friends, sometimes old lovers, but that connection is always there. I’m not usually a fan of the fifty plus romance but Kait Nolan did a great job with this, because it felt like my best friend’s mom was finally getting the happiness she deserved! Caught Up with the Captain is just pure fun and happiness on every page. Such a fun series and ended on the perfect note.
We are back with the former Navy SEALs that after leaving the military have made a new life in TN and one by one have found their significant other. In the midst of the group, Jonah’s mother, Rebecca Ferguson has become the adopted” mother for the “boys”. Since her divorce when Johan was only eight, she’s stayed single, never forgetting the young man to whom she had given her heart but left her behind to enlist in the Navy. Former Navy SEAL Captain Mitchell Greyson is that man. He’s also the man that was Jonah’s commanding officer. When Mitchell returns to TN, determine to find the girl he left behind, Jonah is shocked to realize his mother and his CO had been childhood friends. But the sailing is rough for everyone involved. Will Mitchell and Rebecca get their second chance in love and life? Or will the past, the secrets , and the timing keep them apart? This was a lovely story about second chances for an older couple. It was also a wonderful story in which the readers get to “see” how the “boys” have settled and succeeded in their new lives. The perfect conclusion to this much loved series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Caught Up with the Captain is the final book in the Bad Boy Bakers Series and I have loved every release but for me Kait Nolan left the best for last. This is Rebecca Ferguson who is Jonah and Sam’s mum and Captain Mitchell (Grey) Grayson’s who was Jonah’s commanding officer’s second chance at love. Caught Up with the Captain is a captivating journey that drew me in and didn’t let me go. When Grey arrives in the small town Rebecca and Jonah call home he walks into the bakery like he is here to stay and that’s because he is now retired and has decided to move back home and finally see if the woman that got away is prepared to give him a second chance ……what follows are plenty of issues that need addressing, lots of miss communications and a couple needing to come to terms with the past. So will Rebecca give Grey a chance …..one click to find out. A wonderful, heartwarming romance that was a pleasure to read. I loved everything about this book, I afforded reading about a mature couple and I fell hard and fast for Grey. This is more than a story it’s a journey that at times is rocky but it’s a journey I was happy to be on.
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from Booksprout for giving my two cents. Kait has a writing style that hooks you in and makes you long for the next book. We met Rebecca in previous books at the mama of Jonah and Sam and "adopted" mom to Brax and Holt. What she didn't plan on was a blast from the past....Mitchell Grey. Grey has been away for 34 years in the military and now he is retired from service he wants to find the one that got away. Jonah is shocked to see his CO in his bakery and realized that he a friend of his parents...small world. Rebecca's heart still goes pitter patter at the thought of Grey and now that is he back in town. Grey wants to make amends and move forward with Rebecca. They had a summer of young love before Grey enlisted and it was a regret that both had...no for that it happened but for what was said in the heat of the moment. Rebecca has regrets...but they run deeper and could cause damage. Will her secret finally be revealed and will she lose those she loves?? A great tale of drama, secrets, betrayal and regrets.
I hope you have been reading the Baker Boys series. I loved this book! Jonah’s commander retired from the Navy and came back to his hometown in Tennessee where Johan and his buddies had their bakery. Jonah was sure surprised when he showed up in the bakery, but the real surprise was when Grey saw Jonah’s mother Rebecca and said hello to ‘Rebel’ the nickname he gave Rebecca when they were young. I loved that Grey had always had a connection with Jonah when he was in the military. The surprising part was that Jonah never knew Grey had know his mother and father growing up. The biggest secret of all was that Grey and Rebecca had been in love when they were 18 years old. It was fun watching the two get to know each other again. There was a big secret that came out that upset quite a few people. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
This was such a good read. I was in the mood for something lighter, and romantic.
Although this novella involved a bit of drama with secrets being revealed that had been held for over 30 years, it still managed not to be supremely angsty.
I really liked Grey and Rebecca as a couple. I liked that they were more mature and had a history. For me, it made this second chance romance sweeter. Even the pain and anger that was exhibited was short lived and there was forgiveness in abundance. I guess that's what made this a more lighthearted read to me. People were not holding on to anger and being mean spirited.
This book provided a couple of levels of HEA for Grey, Rebecca, Jonah, and Rachel. It also provided two epilogues and an introduction to a new series that I am looking forward to reading.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.
5 star review of Caught Up With The Captain (Bad Boy Bakers #5) by Kait Nolan
Rebecca Ferguson is Jonah and Sam’s mother and we have met her in previous books in the series. She is a wonderful woman and is seen as the adopted mother to Jonah’s friends and business partners along with their families. Caught Up With The Captain is a second chance at love story for Rebecca and Captain Mitchell (Grey) Greyson. Complicating matters is that Grey was also Jonah’s commanding officer and he never mentioned his connection to Rebecca and Jonah’s hometown. Walking int the bakery he shocks them all, even more so when he lets them know that he has retired and is home to stay. I loved this story, perhaps because our couple are mature and their story line resonated with me. Their journey was rocky, full of miss communication. Can they come to terms with the past and in doing so forge a wonderful future together? One click and find out.
One of the reasons I read is to escape to a kinder, gentler place. Kait Nolan books take me there in a heartbeat; and each time I read a new story, I find myself wanting to stay just a little longer. Sometimes Kait makes me wait with tantalizing anticipation for a truly amazing tale. And Grey and Rebecca’s story is one I’ve been waiting for since she 1st mentioned him in “Stirred Up By a SEAL”, when we got a glimpse of their chemistry with very subtle sizzle. And then, we caught another hint of what was to come for Grey and Rebecca in “Hung Up On The Hacker,” when Grey shows up again, and had me swooning the moment he said “Hey Rebel. It’s good to see you.” Now, finally, Grey and Rebecca have their second chance romance, and wow, this story was so worth waiting for!! Enjoy it as a stand-alone!! And treat yourself to the entire Bad Boy Baker series. You’ll want to stay forever.

The story has laughs, second chances, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Mixed Up with a Marine (Bad Boy Bakers #1) Wrapped Up with a Ranger (Bad Boy Bakers #2) Stirred Up by a SEAL (Bad Boy Bakers #3) Hung Up on the Hacker (Bad Boy Bakers #4)
This is Rebecca and Mitchell’s story. Mitch left town over 30 years ago when hurtful words were spoken between him and his girl. Now years later he is back in town to see about a second chance. Rebecca and Mitchell were in love but when he wants to enlist words were spoken and he left. She moved on and got married and had a few kids. But she never forgot him or his love. Now he’s back in town but she has a secret. When that secret accidently comes out things go a little crazy. Can these two when were in love and are still drawn to each other build a future after that big of a secret? Or was this the end of them?
I absolutely loved this book. A second chance romance of people that missed their moment because they were young. Rebecca, making the best decision she could at the time and Grey making his. Years later and fate brings them together again. The way Kait Nolan describes how Grey acts around Rebecca makes any romantics heart swoon, and gets you a little hot too. The irony of their situation is perfect. No danger as in the last books just awkwardness in being together again. The rediscovering of each other; the uncertainty of Rebecca and her feelings about her body. The fact that Grey could care less and just wants to spend forever with her. I love this culmination of the “Bad Boy Bakers” and truly hope that Kait and other authors will consider writing books about the “silver generation.” Love knows no age.

I loved this story! If you have read any of the books in the "Bad Boy Baker" series, you have met Rebecca Ferguson. She is the mother of Jonah and Samantha, but she took on the role of "adoptive mother/grandmother" to the other Bad Boy Bakers, their wives, and their children. She has so much love in her heart that it's about time she got her own happily ever after! It is now 34 years after Rebecca and the love of her life had to make a decision that would forever impact their lives. 34 years of life may have changed the outside, but on the inside, Rebecca and Grey are still very much in love. Nolan did an awesome job of portraying people in the "older years" of their lives. Just because a few gray hairs have appeared doesn't mean that the passion has to disappear. I love the way Nolan wrote their story: the love, the nervousness that comes with "dating", the worry over aging, and of course, the friendship that was strong enough to withstand all those years. It was beautiful. Without giving anything away, the ending of this story was an interesting one. It is lined up to be the perfect segue into the next installment of Kait Nolan's writing and I for one can not wait!
Can I just say, there are not enough romances written about the over 50 crowd. So right off the bat, Kait Nolan gets a huge thumbs up from this reader in that demographic! Besides that, though, I love this pairing of Rebecca and Grey. Their second chance, even after 30 years apart, was beautifully written and a fantastic addition to the Bad Boy Bakers series. I know others have said that this book can be read as a stand-alone, but I really think it's best enjoyed when as book 5 in the interconnecting series. We actually see these two meet in book 4, Hung Up on the Hacker, and no one should miss that! I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say that I give this book 5 big stars and kudos to Kait Nolan for writing yet another book I couldn't put down with characters I adored and a storyline that was fun, flirty and fabulous. Can't wait to start the next series from you.
This is the 5th book in this incredible series, and this is Grey and Rebecca’s story. Grey is now a retired naval commander, who is heading back to his hometown, while searching for a new purpose to his life. Rebecca is kind, loving, sweet, and maternal, and she has taken all the bad boy bakers and their significant other, and children, under her wing. Rebecca has endured a nasty divorce, and the last thing she expect is to cross paths with Grey again, as he was her first love, and the sparks fly between them. Grey is determined to have a 2nd chance with Rebecca, but will she agree? This is a beautifully written story which had secrets, regrets, 2nd chances, family, friendships, emotions, romance, humor, witty banter, and love, which all leads to an entertaining and compelling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
cute story, but I didn't bother to finish it because of the language
A chapter in and the foul language started… I don’t like authors who throw in the language because they don’t have the vocabulary to think of descriptive words that could express the situation better. ... I gave the book another chance but here comes the F bomb again. . I don't enjoy reading a book that type casts military men as b gutter mouths. I know some very intelligent people in the military who can express themselves without using the F word for an adjective, a verb or a noun with out any thought for what they are expressing.
Pick up a Steinbeck or a Dickens, or any modern number of authors who know how to paint word pictures without gutter language.
I loved, loved this second chance, first love, middle age romance. It was beautiful to watch this story unfold. It will give you all the swoony swoons while also pulling at your heartstrings with all the emotions. Rebecca is a long time divorced mom of two adult children. She’s a hairdresser in small town Eden’s Ridge. Grey is a retired Navy captain who has returned home to Eden’s Ridge to see if he can win back the girl he lost long ago. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, spicy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, secrets, and heart squeezing love. I have loved this series and this was an excellent way to end the series. 4.5 stars.
Rebecca Ferguson has made some hard decisions in her life. She watched the love of her life leave at 18 to join the Navy. Her marriage was filled with turmoil but through it all she did her best to raise her children. Mitchell Greyson was the one who got away. His career in the Navy intersected with Jonah Ferguson, Rebecca's son. He has retired back to Edens Ridge where he grew up and where Jonah has opened a bakery with 2 friends. Jonah didn't realize that his mom knew Grey. Didn't know Grey had been best friends with his parents. There is a secret. It works its way to the surface. Lives are turned sideways.
