You know what? Absolute cinema! I don't even want to talk about anything else, I just want to focus on the Baphomet imagery on the 14th chapter.

This volume turns Uichi into something mythic that's less man, and more omen. Scarlet Beriko frames him like a Baphomet: a creature of contradictions, beautiful and terrible in the same breath. The horns, the wings, the throne, they all are a declaration. Uichi stands at the threshold between creation and ruin, divine and profane, embodying the balance that destroys itself to stay alive. He tempts, corrupts, enlightens. And everyone who touches him burns a little brighter before they break. Just like Asami, Asoda, and soon, Akitora.

What's more is how Uichi feels both in control and consumed by his own chaos. He’s the devil who seduces others into sin but bleeds from his own desire for connection. The imagery isn’t even just about evil. It’s about union, the unbearable closeness of opposites: love and death, lust and loneliness, power and surrender. When Akitora whispers, "You are a nightmare," it feels less like condemnation and more like worship.

My fucking god! I'm so in love with this book!

This story is ever evolving! This volume was way more business oriented. We got to see more of how the yakuza operate and how each character is involved. This volume was wayyyy less rated R...but still definitely rated R lolll

12.2019:

A BL series that has more to it than just sex even with a very sexual person like Uichi in it. I like the characters and every time a volume ends I'm super curious about how the relationships will develop and how the story will continue.

I really, really love the art style.

I actually don’t really know what to think. This volume “only” gets an average rating of 3 stars because I was a little bit disappointed by it. The story still is intriguing and I enjoy the hidden conflicts and the tension. It’s honestly very thrilling and exciting. The complicate relationships between the characters are getting more intense but well... I’m reading series about yakuza, right?

So, here’s the thing. Volume 1 ended with that fight and Akitora hurt and the other one dead and yeeesssss, ...what happened? I am entertained by the sexy scenes and thrilled by the lurking danger but where is the direct violence? To be blunt, I miss bloody scenes with action, fights, threats...and everything the like. I thought that’s part of the yakuza world, too. I already missed this in volume 2 but I thought, one volume without fights (and we’re still at the beginning, don’t forget that) is fine. Then Akitora’s father was released from prison and I was certain, things will change......buuuuuut ..... I wonder is there some mind game going on which I don’t get? I mean, I understand what’s happening between the yakuza boss, Asoda and Matsumi..... I’m lost. Though I comprehend the story line. ...

The last chapter surprised me in an unexpected way. First of all, it seems literally (almost) everyone was or is into Uichi. And he’s like a riddle. What fun to read in a good and bad way. I’d like to look into his head but I can’t tell whether I’ll like what I’ll see. Strange guy. The scene with the revolver actually reveals so much about him but only time will tell.

I hope, volume 4 will speed up, at least a bit. Anyways, I will stick to this series.

This volume features a very special guest, and that is, Hannibal Lecter himself!!! Everyone give a round of applause for Mads Mikkelsen who is now an executive in the yakuza

Vol. 1 ★★★★☆
Vol. 2 ★★★★☆

This volume is kind of a letdown. There's so much buildup in the last volume with Akitora's dad being released from prison yet it goes nowhere. Instead, it's more about the complicated relationship between Asoda and Uichi. To be honest, I sympathize with Asoda. Whereas Uichi is an enigma that's hard to pin down, Asoda's feelings of inadequacy and jealousy are easier to comprehend.

Wait is the Mr. Koga from this volume Nozomi's dad?? Although this Koga has multiple kids and from what I understand Nozomi was an only child? So idk. It just seems like too much of a coincidence and I'm pretty sure both Koga were stockbrokers or had at least something to do with finance.

It's kind of sweet how everyone feels the need to take care of Uichi like he's an abandoned child. I want to know more about his past. What was his family like that he's so desperate to be a part of someone else's?

I do think Asoda is still a bit of a coward for what he did to Uichi. I understand it was out of jealousy and this anger that Uichi is able to just do things and succeed without a thought. He was also told by Tora to be more underhanded and hold one over on him so that's probably what gave him the confidence to do it, but god. He really screwed Uichi over. I'm wondering what his plan is for retaliation or a comeback or whatever. I know he becomes yakuza by the end, but what's the journey to get there and where does the daughter come in? Only two volumes left!!

*Original Review 11/17/2020*
Uichi is so chaotic I love him. And god Tora and his fucking elf ears. They were way more prominent in this volume. They stuck out so much lol.

I honestly didn't expect Asoda to be such a coward. I definitely think less of him. His actions just seemed pretty pathetic to me.

I hope they release a fourth volume soon cause I'm liking these a lot more than I was expecting. Especially considering I wasn't a fan of the other manga I read from Beriko. But they're fun and I like the weird twists it takes.

This series definitely has a lot going on for it - undercurrents and nuances that are easily missed on initial reading. All of the characters are flawed enough to be interesting and unlike so many books in this genre, there really are no cardboard cliché characters. Those looking for a light read can easily skim through to the smut but there is much to reward those who want something with more depth as well.

Story: The triangle of Asoda, Uichi, and Akitora becomes more complicated as Asoda feels he must take Uichi out of Akitora's life in order to protect his boss. Even as childhood friends, Asoda and Uichi had a fractious and contentious relationship. But now, with both men in love with the same person, it has become even more personal. Asoda believes utter loyalty and unswerving dedication are the keys to success as a yakuza while Uichi's devil-may-care attitude to success is an anathema. At the same time, Akitora's wife and his child also are involved in this very complicated relationship.

It's clear with this volume that Akitora is a shrewd opportunist whose ability to read those around him is contributing to his success as a young master. He has created a strong coterie of people with diverse talents that fill in his own weaknesses nicely. That is, if Uichi and Asoda don't manage to kill each other in the process.

Of course, this is a yaoi - so Akitora will have a steamy relationship with Uichi while a pragmatic wife takes it all in stride and Asoda can only look on from the sidelines. By the end of the volume, it becomes quite clear that Uichi is a master manipulator despite having the appearance of a dilettante. Asoda is going to get a crash course as Uichi cleverly sidesteps Asoda's machinations to destroy him. In all, a cut above most books in this genre for the nuances.

Siempre. Me encanta.

the TEA!!!!
If this isn't the MESSIEST group of men EVER!!!
Oh HELL!!!
The only one holding it together (not accepting, just externally saving face) is the wife.
I do not understand how these two men are SO PETTY to stand by this F boy's side. It is not like I dislike A, but he is what he is. These men are MESSY catfighting out of straight "jealously". R wears everything on his sleeve because he has one shiny ball " be A's F boy". He honestly doesn't even want to be a yakuza; he just wants the means to be by A's side constantly.
If A was a office worker or a chef, R would find a way to be there too.
But A's right hand....oh he is just straight PETTY HIGH SCHOOL JEALOUSLY!!!!
*eagerly waiting for this to BLOW UP!!!

I am so intrigued by these characters and their relationships. Of course they're not aspirational or healthy, but they're still so human. This volume was light on the two story elements I like most though- the thrills and the chemistry between the leads. I'm hoping those pick back up in the next volume. One thing that I found incredibly distracting in this volume was the art for Akitora. His facial features were almost comical at times, especially his elfish ears and I don't remember that being as prominent in the former volumes. When I compare the images, they don't seem very different, but the art in this one seemed a little less polished. Still gorgeous though, especially Uichi.

Akitora is a non-traditional Yakuza and I like his characterisation. He meshes well with Uichi and it's been interesting to see how their relationship has affected Akitora's existing relationships, especially with his wife and closest aide. In particular, Akitora's dynamic with Asoda has changed in this volume and I suspect that things will come to a breaking point soon enough. There's no telling who will come out unscathed at the end.

I liked this better than the previous volume. While I don't love the series, I find the characters very interesting. They're not good people, but they are intriguing. I like how the plot is developing. This volume talks about the body guard of our seme character. Their relationship is interesting to say the least.
