She’s going after what’s hers.

When Lana’s mom died, she was heartbroken. And when her mom’s business partner stole a priceless family heirloom, she vowed to get it back. The former thief has no problem taking what’s hers—except this time she ends up stealing more than she bargained for. Now Lana is in possession of dangerous information, the kind that could get her and anyone she cares about killed. When the man who broke her heart shows up offering to help—a man she thought was dead—she accepts. But only because she needs a trained partner to pull off her next job. And this time she’ll protect her heart at all costs. Teague already broke it once. She won’t let him in again, no matter how much he tempts her.

And it could get her killed.

Black Ops agent Teague has been watching Lana from the shadows for months. It killed him to keep his distance but he couldn’t let her know he was alive until he was sure it was safe—until his enemies were dead. But now she’s in grave danger and she’s his to protect, always has been. He never got over Lana; she’s in his blood. He’s just got to prove she can trust him—and convince her to give him a second chance. But first they’ll have to work together to stop a monster—and outrun the people who want them dead.

Danger Rising by Katie Reus
Red Stone Security series book #20. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone. The couple from this book did appear in the prior book so for backstory, I would recommend that one be read first.
A family heirloom was stolen from Lana when her mother died. She knows who stole it and she is determined to get it back. Teague has a job he can’t talk about and he’s ready for a relationship with Lana. But he has to make her understand that his leaving the first time was for her own safety.

Action, adventure, and romance. A great combo that this author does so well. Shades of gray with altruistic intent make me love this extended family and operatives of Red Stone Security.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share.

Side note: the author made a couple of references to “not my monkey” and “wasn’t his circus to deal with”. Since I recently read the non-fiction, business book and original article myself, I thought I would name it here and add that her comments amused me and reminded me that I also have more homework to do in getting those monkeys off my own back. The text is a bit dated but the underlying message is still viable.
The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey by Ken Blanchard
HBR 1974 article by Bill Oncken Jr.

Not to take away from my love of a good romantic suspense! This book is a great ride of danger and romance.

An obsessed hero who will do anything to protect the heroine. A heroine who is a brilliant thief. What more could you want? This was another great addition to the Red Stone security series. The suspense was fun and I loved watching the hero do everything he could for the heroine. Great read!

Lana was out to find an item that had been stolen from her family while mourning the death of her mother as well as the death of the man who was a part of her heart. The emotions that she experienced felt real to me as did the way she tried to fight through it. She was an amazing heroine, tough, but not to the point of being impenetrable, and savvy enough to work the problem while staying safe.

Teague was the type of hero that will do anything to keep his woman safe, even if that includes having to stay away from her. When the situation demands that he step in, he did so with a vengeance that dictated he was never going to leave again. I loved how he was so protective of her while also giving her some leeway in solving the problem. But holy heck, when things heat up between them and when she’s in serious danger…Teague became absolutely everything that I love in a hero!

This was a fast paced read with a lot of action. There are a few twists that took me by surprise and I found myself on the edge of my seat a time or two. The chemistry between Teague and Lana was prevalent but did not dominate the story. However, when these two finally came together it was white hot intensity. This had a great epilogue and can stand alone which makes this a book that I can easily recommend to any romantic suspense loving readers.

This was very fast paced and intriguing! Lana's quest to retrieve a family heirloom quickly becomes deadly. This is also a bit of a second chance romance as well, which I enjoyed. It was good to see a hero putting the heroine first in everything. He is devoted to her totally, and that includes helping her unravel the mystery behind the guy that stole her heirloom. Very enjoyable-read it in on sitting!

This one is a winner! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Lana is a nurse with a non-traditional past and Teague is a black ops agent who lives life on the edge. When they meet, they realize there's something special there, but then Teagues job takes him away and Lana is told he died. When he returns just in time to help her, she doesn't know whether to yell at him or kiss him - or maybe a bit of both.

When Lana's target starts getting paranoid, the danger increases dramatically and it's a good thing that Teague is there to help her. All she wants is her stolen family heirloom back, but the cost might be her life.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, turning pages just as quickly as possible. The author is a master at her craft and fans of the genre will want to put this novel at the top of their TBR list. While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Well Lana started this one out with a bang! I loved that her secret skills were being a thief, probably shouldn't have, but it was very bad ass. I loved that she had mostly quit this secret profession, but were bringing back her skills after her mother was killed and she wanted to know why.

Teague was a bit of a dark horse, you weren't sure about him, other than it looked like he liked Lana and was doing his best to protect her. Once he "appeared" back in Lana's life, things seemed to ramp up with Lana's mission. It was fun to see these two break in all over different place and finally figure out what was going on.

Things got a bit crazy towards the end when the bad guy suddenly clued in and another crossed them, but with quick thinking they were able to do what was needed.

I liked how this one ended, loved seeing them happy and more settled to live life together.

4.25⭐

Danger Rising maybe book twenty in the Red Stone Security Series, but this one can comfortably be read as a stand alone.

As Teague a Black Ops Officer who after his previous job has him faking his own death returns to Miami and Lana the woman he left behind and who has mourned him for months. When she robs a criminal called Cashe who stole a precious piece of jewellery after the death of her mother.

But Lana isn't just a high-end thief at least not anymore. But after losing her mother and learning the man she worked for swindled her she's out for revenge and Teague is determined to protect her even if she's unhappy to see him.

Yet, as the stakes rise and Cashe becomes more desperate to retrieve his goods so does the danger. As Lana searches to find what is rightfully hers but along the way she uncovers some shocking truths including what really happened to her mum.

And with twists, a little heat and some edge of your seat moments. This was an enjoyable and at times gripping addition to the series and one I would happily recommend to others.

Lana didn't have a normal upbringing. When she was a teenager, Lana learned how to scale buildings, crack safes, and escape crime scenes undetected. Her mom was a modern day Robin Hood, stealing from those who were doing evil and then giving the spoils to their victims. Lana travelled the world with her mom to assist on her heists. But Lana had plans to leave that life behind, that was until her mom was murdered and a prized family heirloom was stolen by her mom's shady business partner.

Teague is a black ops agent who fell in love with Lana between assignments. He can never share with her the intimate details about his job even though she has told him everything about her life. The past few months, as a way of protecting her from enemies who want him gone, Teague has allowed Lana to believe he was dead. He has watched her from a far and realizes he needs to intercede when Lana decides to go up against the monster who stole her inheritance and get back the necklace that was stolen from her.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley and the publisher KR Press, LLC for an honest review.

I have been a long time fan of Katie Reus but admit that I have never had the opportunity to read a story from her 'Red Stone Security' series. From the very beginning of the book, Danger Rising grabbed me and drew me in with a fast paced, action packed, edge of my seat scene. The main character Lana, was already in the middle of her first heist. At that point in the story I didn't need to know why or who, the writing of this first chapter was so engaging I couldn't wait to learn more. Reus created in Lana a strong female character who is self sufficient and capable of taking care of herself. Yes, she is a thief and technically that is a bad thing but Lana has a moral code of ethics her mother instilled in her. They always stole from those who were wealthy and then used that wealth against those less fortunate. A portion of the money stolen would go back to the victims. As you read deeper into the book you find there are several layers to the story, each one creating a greater depth to the overall storyline. I enjoyed Danger Rising and will definitely be checking out the other books in the series. Danger Rising can be read as a stand alone; no evident storylines from the prior books carried over.

Lana and Teague took me for a ride I wasn’t quite expecting. One is in danger. The other is apparently back from the dead. Or maybe rumors of his demise were merely exaggerated. Regardless, she can’t give him her heart. Not again. But he’s not leaving this time. And he’s playing for keeps.

Lana wove a tale of deception and murder around the reasons for her deeds, and I couldn’t blame her for what she did. Not at all. Teague even had me convinced that he did what he thought was right at the time, but also that he wouldn’t stay away for long…and that he was going to win Lana and her heart, once and for all. They just had to figure out how deep the lies and danger ran, as well as how to remove the danger from Lana’s life. Permanently. And when all of the pieces fell into place, it was time for some nail biting because sometimes, the real danger comes to you when you least expect it. But these two didn’t give up and now they have forever ahead of them.

Danger Rising

Wow! Another FANTASTIC story by Katie! This one is about Lana and Teague. This is kind of a second chance love story. Teague pretty much came back from the dead to save Lana. It got pretty intense towards the end when the bad guy came after Lana but Teague was there to save her and Teague saved her a few times. Loved the ending. FANTASTIC job Katie! I would recommend this book.

4.25 stars—DANGER RISING is the twentieth instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult RED STONE SECURITY romantic suspense series. This is twenty-six year old nurse Lana Florakis, and Black Ops Agent Teague Monroe ’s story line. DANGER RISING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storylines is revealed where necessary.

Told from third person perspective DANGER RISING follows a determined Lana Florakis as she makes good a promise she made to herself. Several months earlier Lana’s world imploded when her mother was murdered, a precious family heirloom was stolen, and her boyfriend was killed while on a secret assignment. Fast forward to present day wherein Lana sets into motion a plan to take back everything she lost by using all of her training as a professional thief. Having spend years with her mother working the con, Lana was seeking revenge against the man she believed took her mother’s life but Lana will come face to face with her past, a past she long thought buried and gone. Enter Black Ops agent Teague Monroe, and the man with whom Lana had fallen in love. Teague is about to join Lana on her road to revenge, a road that will place our couple in the direct line of fire. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Teague and Lana, and the potential fall-out as our couple become the targets of a dangerous man.

The relationship between Teague and Lana is one of second chances. Lana believed Teague was killed months earlier but Teague’s life as a Black Ops agent means keeping to the shadows, while life carried on. Lana struggled with what she believed was a heart breaking betrayal but Teague knew that to allow Lana the knowledge that he was still alive placed a much larger target on our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to IT tech Harley, the return of Red Stone’s Security Grant Caldwell, as well as billionaire businessman Jeremy Cashe, and his number one Leon.

DANGER RISING is a story of betrayal and murder; greed and power; retribution, vengeance and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the romance is emotional; the characters are charismatic and impassioned.

Danger Rising is another fun and fast read by Katie Reus, an author I've grown to really like. It's number 23,799 (okay, 20) in her Red Stone Security series, though it doesn't involve Red Stone at all other than in cameos by Grant and Belle from book 2. I've only read a handful from this particular series--mostly the last few--and at first, I thought maybe I'd forgotten meeting this book's protagonists in a previous novel. I don't think I did, though, which is mostly what lost this book a star. Let me explain:

The book starts off right in the middle of the action, with mostly former cat burglar Lana in the middle of a heist. We soon meet Teague too, as he has apparently been secretly keeping an eye on Lana from afar. It seems the two had been friends for a while and then become lovers but only for one night. Teague, a Black Ops guy--though Lana never knew it--went off on a mission and was hurt, and his boss told Lana he was dead. There's an effort to explain how the two met and became friends and another effort to describe how Lana dealt with her grief, but all of that happened before we ever opened the book. Instead, the romance part of this tale focuses on Teague's sudden reappearance in her life and her trying to figure out how to deal with it.

Now, I'm a huge fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, but we didn't get to see the friends part or that moment when they first crossed the line from friends to lovers--which is the best part of the trope. I wondered if it hays happened in a previous book, but I don't think it did. I liked Lana and Teague so much, but I just wanted more.

The suspense part is decent though it could have been so much more as well. It also suffered somewhat from me feeling like I should have known more about the bad guy than I did. It also resolves fairly quickly and with much less panache than it should have.

All that aside, it's a good story that I enjoyed, and I will still always put this author high on my reading pile.

I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

This is book twenty in The Red Stone Security series and it is Lana and Teague's story and omg it is definitely a must read. When Lana's mom was killed she was heartbroken and then Teauge died leaving Lana feeling alone but then she found out that the man that was her mom's business partner stole the necklace that was Lana's family heirloom and she is determined to get it back only things start to become really dangerous when she takes some information that could get her killed. Teague is a black ops agent and his job takes him into dangerous situations like his last op where he nearly died and had to make sure that people thought that he had died until the enemies were eliminated but that didn't stop Teague from keeping his eyes on Lana the woman that he is in love with to make sure that she was safe even if he has to stay in the shadows and just watch her but now she has put herself in danger from a man that will do anything to get his information back even kill for it so Teauge will now have to show himself and help her regardless of what happens next so that he can hopefully keep her safe and protect her. Lana is shocked when she sees Teague alive especially as she thought he was dead but after everything was discussed they worked together to get everything that Lana needed to take down the people who are involved. The chemistry between Lana and Teague was so strong and intense that it sizzles off the pages and I couldn't put this book down as it was a real page turner and so addictive along with danger, suspense, betrayal, action, secret's, hope, love and some difficult situations that have you on the edge of your seat wondering what the outcome would be. Katie Reus is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and her story's just gets better and better with each book written and I definitely recommend you read this book and other's by her and you will not be disappointed.

Katie's Red Stone Security stories are always good. This one was a little different as there was just a shirt-tail connection to the Caldwells of Red Stone. The heroine of this book is a good friend to Grant Caldwell family, especially his wife Belle. Given both the hero and heroine are on the fringes of white hats, it was an interesting story. In their hearts they are good guys but Lana is a former thief, now a nurse, and Teague is off the books black ops - assassin. I really enjoyed this story and had no problem with their backgrounds as told in this book.

Lana Florakis was her mother's partner growing up. She and mom robbed from bad people and gave back to the people who where hurt as well as making a living. Her mom was widely known as "La Umbra". Before her murder she went legitimate and was a partner to Jeremy Cashe in one of his legal businesses. Unfortunately he also had other businesses that we not legal. Shortly after her death a family heirloom disappeared and Lana knows he took it. She's determined to steal it back.

Teague met Lana while she was going to nursing school after her mother went legitimate. They were friends that turned to one night of letting loose, before he went on his last mission. He was shot on that mission and badly wounded. Lana was told by his boss Anson that Teague was dead. He didn't look like he was going to make it from his injuries. To keep him safe from Sasha Sorkov the world thinks he's dead. Sorkov is now dead and Teague takes some time off. When an old contact Leon Miller, calls him to investigate some break ins for his boss Jeremy Cashe, Teague knows it's Lana. He takes the job to keep her safe and lead a false trail for Leon and Cashe. After Lana gets over the shock of Teague being alive he insists on helping her recover the necklace from Cashe. Their old love affair heats up again as they have scorching chemistry. The tie in to Red Stone Security comes at the end of the book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another adventure and suspense filled book to add to this authors repertoire.

A very enjoyable read, the characters were interesting and engaging with a backstory that lead to quite the build up to forgiveness and eventually a satisfactory hea.

When bad girls go good, thief to nurse Lana has a rather interesting backstory which gives her a certain skill set she has to call upon to gain revenge for something important being stolen. Her skills are paraded well in the book and I like how she wasn’t relegated to “little woman” status by Teague.

Teague is the epitome of mysterious…what he does and who he does it for is a state secret that doesn’t even really come out at all throughout the book.

Lots of potential future plots laid here, Harley, Rose, the serial killer types (Aiden and Ewan) who I am keen to read more about.

There is a lot going on in this book and it does bring a lot to the table so you have to pay attention whilst reading, but the plot does unwind satisfactorily for the most part with the gaps most likely left for future books (?)

I do feel like this is a bit of a repeated trope for this author (the coming back from the dead) but they are written differently so there is that…also I do feel like the red stone security link is getting more and more tenuous as this series progresses. There was a literal friend of a wife of a red stone employee then a mention at the end…There are so many books in here now It would put me off as a new reader, and actually they could much more sensibly fall into interconnected series I think.

However, none of that detracts from this being an enjoyable read in its own right.

Danger Rising is romantic suspense novel about a skilled thief turned nurse FMC and a black ops agent MMC. From the start we’re thrown right into the suspense story. We find our FMC, Lana, burglarizing a criminal businessman’s home in search of an heirloom, stolen from her mother after she was murdered. We also know our MMC, Teague - a black ops agent, is keeping an eye on her from the shadows. He abandoned her prior to the book’s timeline after being injured on a job, allowing her to believe he was dead.

As usual I know I’ll be getting an exciting high stakes suspense story from Katie Reus. The suspense plots in her books are always unique and keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out how the situation will resolve itself. Danger Rising is no different with Lana pursuing revenge against Chase for the stealing of an heirloom after her mother’s death. Along the way she finds information on his criminal enterprises that pushes her into another level of danger.
I was less enthralled with the love story in this outing of the Red Stone Security series. We’re told about Lana and Teague’s previous relationship, that occurs prior to the timeline in the book, rather than being shown. I think this is one situation where the reader would have benefitted from some flashbacks so we could really see why they fell in love. Unfortunately, we aren’t really given enough insight into their relationship to understand why they are so in love, so the overall feeling is that the romance is a bit ‘instalove’.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and another great Red Stone Security book.

This can absolutely be read as a standalone but I would read the other books just because some of the side characters are in the previous books. When Lana lost her mom she was heartbroken. But when her mom's business partner stole a family heirloom, she was angry. And as a former thief, she vows to get back what belongs to her-no matter what. But when what she steals leads her straight into danger, who can she turn to for help? And when the man she loved, and thought had died, shows up-can she trust him or will he betray her?

I really loved most of this story. Teague and Lana have both been through so many things in their lives. And it shaped who they are as adults. But they both still have moral codes despite everything. Not only that, but they both have a capacity for love and caring that they have never been able to truly let out. I loved how they interact together, and how they manage to forgive things that happen in the past. I loved the side characters from the previous books being in it, but I also loved the introduction of the new side characters (and would love to see stories for them!)-especially a certain woman with a warehouse! My only drawback, I really don't remember either of these characters from previous books. So I was slightly confused as to how they were related to the series. Other than that, I loved everything else about it!

Although I’ve read almost 30 (!) of Katie Reus’ stories, they keep amazing me. Of course, there are some recognizable elements in every book of Katie: there is suspense, some heartbreak and a lot of unexpected twists and turns, to keep you on the edge of your seat. And of course: don’t forget the sparks flying between the main characters.

Lana has lived a life as a burglar. Her mother taught her to steal and break in all kinds of buildings. But then her mother teamed up with someone and she ended up dead. And now her so-called business partner took a very precious heirloom from Lana. So, she is determined to get it back.

While trying to find a way to steal her mother’s heirloom, she comes face-to-face with the man she loved. The man, who died a few months ago… Teague has faked his own dead to avoid that his enemies would go after the woman that he loves: Lana. But now, when the danger has been terminated, he needs to convince Lana to trust him again. Certainly when Lana is now in danger and Teague will not sit by an watch his woman get into trouble. But will she give him a second chance?

Find out for yourself in yet another great story from the Red Stone Security series! Fout out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I have loved this series, and once again, the author delivers another winner.
Lana, nowadays a nurse, experienced at a young age a vagabond life with her mother, a professional thief. Though she still mourns her mother who was murdered and the death of the man she had fallen in love with, she finally is settling in one place and making friends.
Determined to retrieve the family heirloom that was stolen by Cashe, a wealthy man that hides whom he really is, she has returned to temporarily becoming a thief herself .
Black Ops agent Teague is the man Lana hasn’t forgotten and still mourns. What she didn’t know that for her safety and his, he had to lie about his death. Teague hasn’t forgotten Lana but it isn’t until she’s in danger that he reveals to her that he really is alive.
Trust has to be earned once again but in the meantime, as they work together to retrieve the heirloom they discover other atrocities being committed by Cashe .
As their relationship re-ignites, the danger intensifies. Will they survive it all? If they do, will they find their HEA?
This was another great addition to the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

ahh I so enjoyed this. I loved the suspense, the action, and of course, the romance between Lana and Teague. I’ve been scorned so many times in the past when a book has introduced such an exciting plot, only to neglect it in the face of pushing romance to the centre. This book honestly had such a great balance of both to keep you intrigued and swooning… Lana and Teague COMMUNICATED and that made it so much better.

In respect of the story, there are things that happen you least expect and if you thought you guessed right, then like me, you absolutely did not lol. I would have loved maybe a bit more of a development on Teague. Coming away from the book I can’t really remember much about Teague’s background, but my memory sucks so that’s just me. Loved my girl Lana tho ✨

I love interconnected stories that can also be read as a standalone, but I am slightly intimidated at the fact this is book 20(?) of the series. If the rest of the series is similar to this, then I can definitely see myself picking a random one up when I want an easy read with some great plot & romance.

Another brilliant read in this series with all the usual hallmarks of wonderful suspense and danger that moves at a fast enough pace to keep you totally enthralled and yet again there is a wonderful connection between the two main characters but also enough snark to keep them interesting Do yourself a favour and grab this latest instalment in fact if you haven't done so you need to read the entire series

She may be a nurse but Lana had a far from normal upbringing as she is also a very well trained thief So when a family heirloom is stolen by her mothers partner she doesn't have time to grieve the loss of her mother she just wants what belongs to her back What she doesn't expect is that she will also collect something that puts her in extreme danger That is when a man from her past comes to her rescue Teague has allowed her to believe that he died on his last mission after all that was the only way to keep her safe but now that she is danger all bets are off and he will protect her with everything that he is. Along for the ride will be some old friends Can she forgive him for allowing her to mourn for him and can they have a future You will have to read to see

Danger Rising is the 20th book (say what??!) in this author’s Red Stone Security series, but each is a stand-alone title. However, this series introduced me to this author, and I’ve loved every Red Stone Security book to date, so if you’re looking for a great romantic suspense series to binge, I highly recommend this one!

Obviously, as a romantic suspense series, most of the books are high-action, but this one seemed to take the cake. It felt nonstop from beginning to end, whereas there seems to be a bit of a breather from time to time in the other stories. It was also an emotional rollercoaster to boot. I literally couldn’t stop reading and finished it in one sitting.

There’s a reason Katie Reus is one of my go-to authors for romantic suspense. She consistently delivers quality stories with wonderfully heartfelt characters and engaging and sexy suspense. I know when I pick up one of her books, I had better have a lot of free time because I will not want to put it down, and this one was no exception. Danger Rising is one more winner in a great line-up of books from this author.

I received this ARC From Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is book 20 in the Red Stone Security series but it can be read as a stand-alone. I really enjoyed this romantic suspense and being able to jump into Lana and Teague story. Lana was a former thief who worked with her mother. Her mother wanted her to stop stealing and make something of herself. When her mother’s business partner stole a family necklace, Lana decided to break into his many properties to find it and take it back. When on one of these break-ins, Lana steals dangerous information that could get her killed that is when Teague who has been watching her in the background jumps in. Lana is shocked when she sees him because she has been told that he died on a mission. Teague tells her that he can’t explain but it was for her safety that she was told this and that he was back to help her before something happens to her. Behind all of her troubles is the man that stole her mother’s necklace and possible killed her. A quick read with plenty of action, romance and suspense.
