A New World #3

Conspiracy

Rate this book
A little blue world, the third planet from the sun. It’s home to seven billion people with all manner of faiths, beliefs and customs, divided by bigotry and misunderstanding, who have been told they are not alone in the universe. Anyone watching from the outside would pass by this fractured and tumultuous world, unless they had no other choice.

It’s been a little over a year since Todd Landon’s life changed with the arrival of the Nentraee. Continuing his duties as Special Envoy for Terran Affairs, Todd finally feels at home with the aliens; gaining more responsibility and influence with both races. Plans are underway for two Interplanetary spaceports and additional solar exploration. It’s an exciting time for both the humans and the Nentraee.

Not everything is as perfect as some hope. Speaker General Mirtoff and Vice-Speaker Mi’ko of the Nentraee are worried that the Liberi Dei plot additional terrorist attacks and may have inside help. Threats are clear, but who can they trust? Could Todd be helping them unknowingly or worse covertly? Will these new space endeavors continue to bring the human and the Nentraee together or will a conspiracy hiding in the shadows fracture an already shaky alliance?

This is the best installment in the series to date.

The political intrigue and shifty maneuvers of humans and aliens kept me guessing and turning the pages. Although I was pretty sure I had the main 'conspiracy' figured out, I wasn't entirely correct!

The attention to detail in describing the technology was astounding and picturing humans with aliens developing colonies on the moon and other planets was riveting.

I think the best part of this series is the creation of an alien race, with their language, customs, and traditions. Having been through many university courses in Anthropology, I might know a thing or two about customs and culture, and Neu nailed it.

Much like classic epic fantasy books, there is a glossary at the back of the book, and I found myself checking it from time to time to refresh my brain on the meaning of different terms. I know some readers dislike that, but for me, it added a level of complexity to the alien race that made it real.

I find myself wanting visual depictions of the Nentraee.
There's also an interspecies relationship as well, so of course, from an M/M Romance perspective, I was all over those encounters.

Neu has created a whole new universe. One that swept me away, and made it difficult to put the book down.
I know there's another volume coming, and I for one, cannot wait.

Like LGBTQ+ Science Fiction? Pick this series up. You will not be disappointed.

Conspiracy is the third book in the A New World series. Conspiracy was very good. It took me a bit to get into it but once I did, I was hooked. I might have gotten into it quicker if I had read the previous two first, but this read really well as a standalone. This ended up being a fantastic sci-fi thriller, lots of twists and turns, its full of treachery, deceit, intrigue. Todd is the Special Envoy for Terran Affairs, he works with the Nentraee, a humanoid race. But The Liberi Dei wants the aliens destroyed and Earth left alone, solely human. The character and world building are amazing. Overall, a fantastic story, extremely well written with pacing that hooked me!!

So, I'm not a huge fan of science fiction (in books, love movies) with that being said, I really enjoyed this story. It took me a moment to find my footing since I hadn't read the other books, but once I did I couldn't put the book down.

Of course, I really enjoy M.D.'s writing, so I'm not in the least bit surprised. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

This book has a wide cast of strong characters. Some are easy to love, others are easy to hate, and the rest are easy to read.

This is one of those books where it's easy to get a hundred pages into it before you come up for air. Though I do recommend reading the previous books in the series first. Enjoy!

I feel bad going from a 5 in book 2 to a 2 in book 3, but here I am. This third in the series went on too long. It bounced back and forth between too many characters other than Todd. It felt flat to me. I normally don't post reviews that are under 3 stars, but since I loved the other two books, I felt like I needed to complete this. Maybe it should have simply ended with book 2.
