Eugenia Several years ago, I had it all. Married to a wealthy banker in New York, my social worker career on the rise, this girl from the South side of Chicago had left behind her hard knock life. But the fairytale could not silence my demons, or heal me from my family's past tragedy. Now I'm a single mother in a bare-knuckled court battle with my ex-husband, and on the brink of losing the most important person to me--my son. I can't foul up again. So I'm not taking any risks. Not on crazy social scenes, not on foreign excursions with strangers, and not on romance. Especially not with the brazen, rowdy likes of Keenan McLain.
Keenan Hell, I'm a roughneck from Baltimore who loves his smash-first-ask-questions-later lifestyle. As the CEO of the East Coast's new black-owned luxury adventure company, I can have practically any woman here in the Hamptons I want. But damn, I'm growing obsessed with only one. Our Christmas hookup a few months ago was supposed to be a one-and-done. But Eugenia was too explosive, a quiet storm with depth she hides from the world and I want more of. But that night really was just a puff-puff-pass for her. She's older than me. People say she's got issues, but I'm the one having withdrawals over her. Am I really ready to give up my life and go all in to be her man? How do I convince her to move on from her past despair, and take a risk with her heart one more time? Especially for an unproven young 'hood like me.
This is Book 4 of Explore Men of the Hamptons series, and can be read as a standalone. It has a prequel novella offered for free on Lula White's web site--Christmas Down Under-- but it is not necessary to understand this storyline. This is a complete narrative and an HEA, but characters and series storylines are continued from previous books.

This was a NTMA and I thoroughly enjoyed this read! It was the chase for me! Keenan was not at all afraid to put in the work for what he wanted and Eugenia was not ready for this man’s chase. I will give it to Eugenia she put up a good fight because when bro showed up at the job in a boat full of flowers I would have given in right that moment but Eugenia held out! I felt so bad for Eugenia and all she was going through so I was happy to see things work out for her in the end.
Before reading this book I did read Keenan and Eugenia’s Christmas Novella Christmas Down Under! It’s not necessary to read first but I recommend it because this book picks up a few months after the Novella takes place.
There are a couple triggers: suicide and mention of pregnancy loss.
What if you met someone that felt perfect but the timing was off? Would you give them a second chance? Would you allow the “you” you’ve hidden to be brought to light? To be seen?!
I feel like Keenan saw Eugenia, and initially she didn’t know if this was food or bad. I liked Princess too, she helped a lot despite her being the ex-husbands family.
But Keenan showed much affection and I could even appreciate that.
I must say… I was very insistent on not wanting to read a story about Eugenia. But, I actually found it to be very enjoyable. My verdict is still out on Ms. Eugenia but Eugenia and Keenan together…yep, sign me up for that!
Now here’s what I’m upset about…. (SPOILERS AHEAD)
For a story that had such heavy content and a great buildup, the ending of the book was so rushed! Why did murder, space exploration, concert, proposal, marriage and pregnancy happen in all of 15 pages?! Here’s your hat. Whats your hurry?
When do Keenan and Shay work on their relationship and their painful past?
And I know damn well that wasn’t the extent of the Sasha Static concert after the buildup throughout this entire series!
It’s a solid 4 ⭐️ because we deserved more better conclusion. Unless….there’s follow up 👀

So far, this happens to be my favorite book in the series. My heart broke for Eugenia several times throughout the story with what she had to deal with. And I loved how Keenan treated her and how she was able to grow with him and alleviate some of her fears and Concerns. And when a certain person asked a question "just because they were being nosey", I howled. It was my absolutely one of my favorite lines in the story. Add the many OMG moments made this story that much more emotional and tears flowing. Such a good job with this story.
I received a copy of the book via the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions
I absolutely loved this book! It held my attention from beginning to end. I had all of the feels and books generally don't do that for me, but this one did. I empathized with all of the characters and their struggles, but even in their struggle, it was a feel good book!
This was a very emotional book to me on several different levels. I wish I had read the books before this one to get a better idea of what went on with the main character and her past. The author gives you background on Eugenia, Sheldon and Chrissy so you could read as a standalone, I do suggest you read Christmas Down under first and the Trigger warnings before reading this book.
Eugenia’s only focus is to do what she needs to do to keep her son and not take any risks of losing him to her Ex and new wife. She has nothing for playboy Keenan.
Keenan was very determined to get what he wanted at no matter of the cost or consequences, I felt some of his gestures were over the top and some romantic. I plan to read the next book in the series. Author Lula White will be added to me “Authors to read list”
