Rate this book
I thought I knew my husband. I was wrong...

I have the perfect life: a loving marriage, and an adorable little daughter, Mia, who is always full of smiles. But when my husband Keith is hit by a car, my whole world is turned upside down. With my heart breaking in his cold white hospital room, I hold his hand and tell him how much I love him. Then just as Keith slips into a coma, I hear him say four words that change everything: I took a life.

Mia and I move into my childhood home with my parents for support, and I spend hours by Keith’s hospital bedside, willing him to wake up. I keep his last words to myself; I cannot believe my gentle husband would hurt anyone. But as I search through his belongings, it becomes clear that he was hiding something.

And when I discover a note in my parents’ attic, my breath catches in my throat. My husband is not the only one in my family with a dark secret, and I’m beginning to think what happened to him was far from an accident…

But just as I get closer to the truth, my daughter goes missing. I’ll do whatever it takes to save my child. But I soon realize I was wrong about everyone I thought I could trust…

Wow. My first L.G. Davis book and I am in awe.
I have seen this author highly recommended on social media, but now you can add me to her fan list!
I was immediately hooked from the first chapter, and would have easily read it in one sitting had life not got in the way!
The plot was so suspenseful- gripping but so easy to read, with characters you are drawn to. It's a short read, I think around 5 hours on my kindle, but I prefer thrillers like that- no messing around, or waffle to pad it out!
The ending was so intense too, my eyes popped out!
Loved it, and now I'm off to read her other books!

This fast paced, gripping read had me hooked from the first few pages. Once I picked this book up, I didn't want to put it back down again. I do love a book that has a dysfunctional family, and I like them even more when they are in a domestic suspense thriller. This twist filled read kept me on my toes trying to second guess what was going on. The story is told from multiple points of view but every now and again we get chapters that are told from someone called "The Watcher." There are a few subplots running alongside the main storyline, but they are all tied up nicely at the end of the book. I like the authors writing style and I liked how the story ended.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #LGDavis for my arc of #MyHusbandsSecret in exchange for an honest review.

My Husband's Secret by L.G. Davis

Imagine getting a call that your husband has been hit by a car. His condition is so critical that you rush to the hospital. As he slips into a coma, he makes a confession to you. He says "I took a life". Standing there in shock, you try to make sense of it all. What really happened?

Once I started reading My Husband's Secret by L.G. Davis I could not put it down. Kudos to Davis for writing this fantastic story. The suspense and unexpected plot twists totally captured my attention. As the pages flew by, I was eager to see what was going to happen. Since the author left wiggle room for the story to continue, I am hoping there will be a sequel.

My Husband's Secret is available on September 16th
4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Excuse me, WHAT?! This is the Saturday of shocking reads!

I started this one a little clumsily, not expecting much, when I realized this is at least the 4th book I've read this year with the same title. Y'all have to do better on that!

This is a fast and wild read so a chapter or so in, it got right to it. Keith is in a coma after a hit and run and in a moment of consciousness he tells his wife that he took a life. Um, what? Wake up and explain yourself, sir. But he did not wake up and explain.

So most of the book is a back and forth on why he may have said that and we get to know the people in their lives and most importantly, every few chapters are narrated by "The Watcher" and I had several running theories on who it was but I remained wrong and stand corrected. Very creepy stuff.

She starts out thinking her marriage could be a lie but ends up finding out that perhaps her whole life is a lie. This was very original. I had whiplash from the twists!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for more from this author.

This new to me author, L.G. Davis, has a perfect combination of a relatable domestic setting and discomforting, twisty suspense! I don’t know how she does it but this one’s both plot-driven and character-driven at the same time…and, more than that, it doesn’t take away from the page-turning pace. Her well-defined characters are authentic and deeply human, making me empathize with them despite not approving of their actions!

At the heart of domestic suspense is identity; how much we understand about ourselves and those we love. Frustratingly enough, our human nature wants to show only our good side and we hide what we don’t want others to see. Avery and Keith Watkins dig into the past in an effort to uncover secrets and lies - what they find challenges everything they thought they knew about each other and those they love.

Best if you go in blind, Davis’ new novel, My Husband’s Secret, asks some very interesting questions about identity and trust and how easily both can be undermined. It’s a five-star read and begs to be placed at the top of your reading pile!

I was gifted this advance copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Avery gets a phone call that every spouse dreads--her husband was in a horrible accident and is now in the hospital barely hanging on. But what's worse is just before he slips into a coma, he tells her he took a life. Those four words are all she gets, no explanation, nothing further, and they ruminate, churning and sloshing. Could her husband really have killed someone? Worse still are the chapters told from the perspective of "The Watcher," who is stalking Avery and her daughter Mia since the accident, spying on their every move.

This complex mystery evokes two burning questions: Who did her husband kill and did they attempt revenge? Who is watching Avery and what are their intentions?

So many red herrings came to the surface in first five chapters. By chapter ten I had whittled my list down to a few mysterious characters. I was wholly intrigued and desperate to know who and why. And I ended up being so very wrong. So did not see all that coming.

A great thriller with lots of suspense and gasp-inducing twists!

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC! My Husband’s Secret comes out on September 16th ♥️

Wow! This book surprised me in so many ways. Because I read a lot of thrillers, sometimes I’m not all too shocked when it comes to twists and turns in books, but this book and its twists kept me gasping and -most of all- reading through the day.

This story gripped me from the start and didn’t let me go, even when I wasn’t reading, I was still thinking about the story. The writing style is very nice, easy to read but very suspenseful. All the little twists and turns happened throughout the entire book which I loved.

For me, the book didn’t feel slow at all, but I would understand if that’s the case for some people, because there’s a build-up. I do appreciate that a lot in a book though, so for me it was a plus.

Must read! 🤍

What I liked about this book:
unpredictable plot twists
Second half of the book I couldn't put it down

What I didn't like:
Slow to start
Some of the dialogue annoyed me
Some of the characters decisions were overly moronic

Overall, I enjoyed this book - my first by this author. Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this enjoyable thriller!

I took a life While Keith is lying in a coma due to a hit-and-run accident, those are the four words he uttered to Avery as he was drifting away. Day after day Avery visits Keith in the hospital, hoping against hope that he will awaken and for him to reassure her that he is not a murderer. Unable to let matters wait, Avery starts looking for answers, and this includes digging deeply when it comes to matters concerning Keith. She might not like what she finds, but she is not going to give up until she finds out the meaning of those terrible four words.

Concern for their young daughter Mia, with as much time as Avery is spending at the hospital, she decides to temporarily move back in with her parents. This is no easy task, as her relationship with them is rather strained. Furthermore, Avery wonders if any interactions that Keith had with her parents could shed any light on his declaration. One day as Avery starts looking through a storage room in her parent's basement, she goes through box after box looking for anything that they might have been hiding from her. She eventually lands upon a note that presents a strong clue. A clue that shakes her up even more.

While Avery's character is written in first-person in this engaging novel, there are some alternating perspectives from the past. Then there is "The Watcher", with that unnamed character's point of view. These multiple roles in this book work flawlessly to create incredible pacing, a riveting story and shocking twists and turns. This all culminates in a jaw-dropping conclusion.

L. G. Davis has written a thrilling book that any lover of domestic suspense would thoroughly enjoy. While only my second read by Ms. Davis, I can say that I will not only look forward to whatever she has coming up next, but that I want to exhaust her backlist.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for L.G. Davis' tense domestic thriller MY HUSBAND'S SECRET.

I have only recently discovered L.G. Davis in just the past couple of months, having devoured two of her previous thrillers "Liar Liar" and "Perfect Parents" (previously titled "The Surrogate's Gift"). Both were intricately twisted, a little out there with a propensity to suspend belief...but were also equally addictive, compelling and totally unputdownable. I don't care if they are a little far fetched, as long as the story is engaging and keeps me turning the pages. And that goes for MY HUSBAND'S SECRET as well. After reading and loving all three of these domestic thrillers, I have to wonder where L.G. Davis has been hiding. She is a new-to-me author only a couple of months ago but she is one that I quickly go to and know I am going to be thoroughly entertained from start to finish as I try to guess the identity of her villain.

We meet Avery Watkins within the first pages as she runs a massage parlour with her best friend Celeste in the comfortable Willow Gate. Their business has been open a year and they are about to hire more masseuses to keep up with the thriving business and their newly acquired receptionist (former client) is a God-send.

And then Avery gets a call from the school at which her 7 year old daughter Mia attends to say that she has not been picked up. Avery is confused as her husband Keith was supposed to collect Mia some time ago but calls to his mobile go unanswered by both the school and Avery. Upon arriving home with Mia, Avery is then confronted with the sight of a waiting police care. This could not be good. Keith had been involved in an accident having been knocked off his bike with the driver then fleeing the scene. Avery is beside herself. After leaving Mia with Celeste, she rushes to the hospital to find her husband in a critical condition having undergone hours of surgery. She remains by his bedside and when he finally awakes, he struggles to speak managing only to whisper the words "I took a life" before slipping into a coma.

Avery is shocked. This cannot be true. Her husband is the kindest, gentlest and most honest person she knows. He is her best friend. She would know if he was hiding something like this...wouldn't she?

Calling on the support of her family, Avery moves back into her childhood home with Mia while she makes the daily journey to the hospital some forty minutes away. But she has never had a good relationship with either of her parents - her mother suffering bad bouts of anxiety and depression and her father is an alcoholic. Neither of them particularly present during her childhood. Their neighbour, Ruth, was Avery's only shining light. She was more of a mother to Avery than her own parents had been and is also Mia's godmother.

Avery juggles her time between ferrying Mia to school and at the hospital, leaving the business in Celeste's capable hands. But with each visit she sees no change in her husband and begins to wonder if he will ever wake up and explain the meaning of his last words. But the doctors assure her is coma gives him the best possible chance as he had sustained a serious head injury. So all she can do is hope.

In the meantime, she begins to do a little snooping to try and make sense of those words. Both she an Keith have kept a journal as a way of making sense of their thoughts and emotions but when she goes back to their empty house to search for it, it's gone. And Avery knows it was there when she packed some items for Keith for the hospital. So where is it? And then there is the added mood back with her parents. Something is amiss and it soon becomes very clear that they are keeping something from her. But what, she doesn't know.

The one shining light, aside from Ruth's unwavering support, is Mia's new teaching assistant at her school, Miss Campbell. Mia adores her and her presence has had a calming effect on her otherwise confused and emotional daughter. At the end of each day, Mia is full of excitement at the things Miss Campbell got her to do and the special projects she has assigned her. Avery is grateful that Mia can at least find solace there in an otherwise uncertain situation in which Avery finds herself now.

What is the secret her husband has been keeping? And what happened to the money that has miraculously disappeared from their joint bank account? Who would hate her husband enough to run him down so callously and then flee the scene without calling for help? And what secrets are her parents keeping from her?

Amidst the tense narrative told predominantly from Avery's perspective, we also have an anonymous one in the form of "The Watcher" who keeping tabs and watching Avery's every move and with particular interest in Mia, believing Avery to be self-absorbed and neglectful of her little girl. Trying to guess the identity of The Watcher is fraught with possibilities, red herrings and plenty of tension. I had a couple of suspects throughout narrowing it down to one by the end thanks to the little clues the author drip-fed us.

MY HUSBAND'S SECRET is an edge-of-your-seat read that keeps you engaged and entertained the entire way through. It doesn't matter how believeable or probable the story is...it's the ride and entertainment factor I enjoy. Some of it may be far fetched but that is one thing I have come to expect from L.G. Davis and it matters little to me because of the compelling nature of of her tales that are fraught with so much tension I simply don't want to put them down. And even though I was in something of a reading slump (due to some devastating personal news), I still managed to read this book in one day.

A totally twisted read is nothing if not exactly what I expect from this author who delivers such tense and addictive domestic thrillers with something of a sting in the tail at the end of each one. Every ending is climatic and every final word a cliffhanger. Each one of her thrillers I have read to date have left readers with something of an open ending. Something I don't usually like, but L.G. Davis delivers it perfectly and satisfactorily. She is one of my new go-to authors as I know I will never be disappointed with whatever twisted tale she has to offer...I just know I will enjoy it anyway.

I would like to thank #LGDavis, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #MyHusbandsSecret in exchange for an honest review.

Can you spot the antagonist of a story? I always thought I was quite good at weeding out the bad guys, until I read My Husbands Secret.

My Husbands Secret follows Avery Waylon as her life is turned upside down, her husband is hospitalised after an accident, and she always feels like she is chasing her tail trying to get everything right while trying to visit her husband and take care of her daughter.

Needing additional support she decides to move in with her parents for a while, there not the greatest but they love her daughter and can definitely help her out besides she has the loveliest woman Ruth just across the road who was her lifeline as a child and the godparent of her daughter.

The one thing that is constantly affecting Avery is before her husband slipped into a coma he said ‘i took a life.’ And now she needs to find out the truth.

My Husbands Secret was so cleverly written, written with a few different points of view along the way but most being from Avery and a character we only know as The Watcher. It sent chills down my spine the further I turned the pages.

Avery had such an amazing support system when she needed it, but as soon as she decided to hunt for the truth everything started to fall apart. I had a few suspicions along the way over who I thought this Watcher character could be…

Anything I thought I predicted along the way in this book was so wrong. I don’t think I’ve ever been more wrong. This book had a killer twist that I don’t think anyone will see coming.

Absolute, incredible read.

Engaging plot with so-so characters.

The plot was engaging with several bumps in the road that had the author veering off into another direction. I liked how the author inserted a “stalker” view into the plot which kept the reader on their toes as they tried to figure out who the stalker could be. The ending leads you to believe that there could possibly be a sequel to this story, though the author didn’t leave you hanging as she connected all the dots to resolve the plot.

I had a hard time with the lead character, Avery. She got on my nerves with all her suspicions and woe is me moments. I had to put the book down to take a break as I couldn’t take her anymore. I did like Avery’s best friend/business partner, Celeste, but the rest of the characters were so-so.

The author’s writing was ok. I felt like it dragged in spots, but then it would pick up. It was like the author added extra words in to meet a word requirement. My biggest complaint about this book is the title. It doesn’t work for me based on the book I was reading. I’m sure they could have come up with a better option for a title that encompassed the book better.

Having said all of the above, I would probably give this author another chance with another of her books. My Husband’s Secret had enough suspense and mystery in it to make me curious about her other works.

Unlike her childhood, Avery has a wonderful adult life. A loving husband, an amazing daughter, a great business, and supportive friends. All is well until her husband, Keith gets in an accident and ends up in a coma. His last words to her are “I took a life.” As Avery starts to investigate the truth, secrets and lies are unfolded and she doesn’t know who she can trust anymore.

This book was a page turner that kept me on my toes. Every time I thought I figured something out, a different twist would be thrown my way. A suspenseful thriller with so much family drama that keeps you guessing a long the way. A couple things that didn’t completely work for me were that I just didn’t love any of the characters and found them to be annoying at times. I also am not sure if I missed something …but I don’t completely understand the title of the book since the husband was only keeping a secret for a couple of days and other characters were keeping them for decades🤷🏻‍♀️. I definitely don’t regret reading it and I recommend you check this one out If you want a short fast paced mystery thriller.

Oh my goodness another brilliant book from this author, I always know I am going to enjoy her books without even reading the synopsis. It is well written as always and I get into the storyline from the very first page. Interesting characters all with their own story to tell and I was hooked from the very first page.

A very twisty read throughout and what a brilliant ending, everything brought together to a satisfying finish. I can speak highly enough about this book which I can thoroughly recommend and I look forward to her next masterpiece.

Oh my word what an absolutely brilliant read this was. This author has now turned into one of my ‘go to’ authors where I don’t even need to read the blurb, My Husband’s secret is an unputdownable, gripping and fast paced psychological thriller. The book is so full of twists and turns that at times I felt I was on a Roller Coaster. This is one of these books which I was so gripped by that I just wanted to ignore the outside world until I’d finished reading. Wow LG Davis sure knows how to write a suspenseful psychological thriller, that will honestly have you on the edge of your seat. A brilliant story that doesn’t falter the whole way through even to the very last word .

I am going to be straight up, this book had me on the edge of my seat, there are secrets coming from every angle, and from the people you least expect, this is a page turner. Don’t want to ruin the book for anyone, but I thought it was going to be a little bit more juicy being that the title is what it is, but it took a complete turn. Some parts were obvious though, but will I deny that this book was not GOOD, HELL YEA it was, the end had me wanting to toss my kindle out the window, (in a good way). Thanks Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This packs quite a few punches, with lots of secrets and hidden agendas and plenty of twists and turns. It took a bit to get going, and if you read a lot of thrillers, you kind of know what's what, but it was a compelling read and race to get to the finish line to figure out all the pieces.
