A troubled past, a magical future, and a new adventure!
After the adventures to secure the gates of hell, Argo finds himself bouncing from contract to contract. A mercenary wizard's life is never dull and it turns fascinating when he arrives in Sekretto. Join Argo and Rekkles as they're hired to investigate an escalation in the region's volcanic activity. The contract to escort the survey teams is especially interesting because it just may be Argo's last.
This is the first series I've read by Han Yang and if his other books are as good as this series I will reading all if his books. This series has great characters and not over the top with the action. If you're looking for a two book series that's fun to read here ya go. I'm going to find another series by Mr. Yang and do some reading tonight.
There were bits that seemed disjointed, but overall a good read. There are some peculiarities of the author's style that I have become accustomed to, some of them very intentional. Mostly to streamline character progression, so that is likely the feeling of disconnection I felt in some parts of the narrative. Intentional of not, it took enough away from my reading experience to cost it that 5th star.
Book 1 ended with MC going off to fight rats for dwarves, having spent all his money to also buy a cargo to sell them. Book 2 started with him completely elsewhere, no money, no dwarves, and no explanation of what happened. I am on page 74 right now, having spent the whole time wondering what happened. I will finish the book, but it really is annoying not knowing how MC went from A to Z.
Argo is at it again. On the run from lords of another land, he rolls a volcanic biome. He travels to his new mana source only to stumble into a conspiracy.
It’s a new adventure for the mercenary wizard with new deadly foes, a plot to destroy the world, and even a bit of romance along the way.
Okay I wasn't expecting this. While this is labeled a series each book can be read as a stand alone book. I was expecting book two to pick up where book one left off. I thought there was plenty more to tell. Guess I was wrong. I'm not going to take away stars just because it wasn't what I was expecting, but I will be dropping the series for awhile.
Argo, a mercenary wizard, struggles with his feelings about being free, saving the people around him, and his love for Avril. Magic, pain, death, and heroics ensue. I like the action, humor, intrigue, and romance. I liked the happy ending.
