Discover a new way of thinking about your work, relationships, and life's struggles.
Finally, a translation of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations in plain English! Meditations has been the world's most popular philosophy text for decades. Only now has it been translated word by word into a truly digestible format that anyone can understand. David Stewart's brand new rendition of this classic text offers a casual voice fit for the layman in the 21st century.
If you want to benefit from the ancient, time-tested philosophy of Stoicism, but you don't have the time to comprehend the dense philosophical language, this book is for you!
This is NOT someboring, watered-down self-help book, nor is it a book you need any higher education to understand.
It is simply an updated translation for the average person who needs real, non-nonsense guidance in their life.
And what better person to get guidance from than an emperor who ruled during the Golden Age of Rome?
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I liked this book but it's nothing I wasn't taught as a child. The average person probably loves by his philosophy. I don't know if the younger generations are taught this type of thinking in schools anymore, but I was at home and school. they are the golden rules for life......
Questions, a few of which occurred to me, were contemplated upon by a Roman Emperor. Despite the size of the throne and the sea of people who would bow to him - he came across similar personal discontent, disappointments, anxieties and the whole gamut of range of emotions. Being a diary, reads as distinct chains of thoughts - sometimes repetitive, sometimes unusual.
3.5/5 I’m not really one for self-help style books, and I’m aware that this is a gross simplification of Marcus Aurelius’ actual thoughts and feelings, but this had some banger lines. I wish it was shorter, because while I’m aware this was just a guy writing down his thoughts, reading the same line of thinking for the millionth time got annoying.
