Slinging coffee to the masses is never boring. When a new customer catches my eye, I do what comes naturally and flirt with him. To my delight, Martin flirts back. He soon becomes the perfect distraction from my gaming group pressuring me into DMing our next D&D campaign.

Then I overhear Martin designing his dream dungeon, and I just know he’s everything I’m looking for in a man. What could be better than a hot summer fling with my very own personal DM? There’s just one problem; I should maybe have checked which type of Dungeon Master Martin meant before I asked him to take me on an adventure.

Dungeon Master is a kinky M/M romance with some BDSM elements, including sounding, impact play, and roleplay. It’s a spinoff from Table Topped, but it stands alone.

DNF I got as far as Martin wanting a condom for oral sex. No no no no no. This is unnecessary and boring. I would have told him to eat the condom and left. Instead, I just walked away from this book. This is a novel, not a health lesson.

Kink including restraints, Dom/sub, role play /impact play / sounding .
Didn't really buy their romance , I didn't believe in their connection. Even the intimate scenes felt rigid to me.🤷‍♀️

I’ve been meaning to read the Table Topped series by Alex Silver forever. I find the whole RPG world fascinating (and reminiscing of my uni days).

And this story was a great introduction to what to expect of that series and yes, I’m still very interested!

There were a couple of kinks that went outside my comfort zone, but taking into account that a year ago I hadn’t yet read a single BDSM story, this is an improvement on my capacity to enjoy reading kink!!

I have loved the whole setting of this story, how Bob and Martin meet at the coffee shop and the whole miscommunication about being a DM was hilarious.

Really enjoyable.

2.5 stars. The concept of this book sounded fun, but the misunderstanding started to feel contrived and gimmicky pretty quick, without having much payoff when the reveal finally came. The writing felt a bit clunky and didn't really flow well overall, so this book wasn't a hit for me.

It started out as a fun little read and developed in to kinky land.
I would have loved for the confusion to go on so long that he turned up to DM, and finding out that way what the difference was. It missed out on some fun moments with how it went.

Das Kennenlernen war voll süß, die Verwechslung zwischen DM und DM etwas gringe und der Kink ist halt nicht meiner.

I loved this a lot more for how the author uses the overlap in language between the table-top gaming and kink worlds and spins it into an awkwardly hilarious meet-cute scenario. As someone who enjoys elements of both lifestyles (ha!), this was the highlight of the narrative rather than the slightly awkward "love" story.

I acquired this novella as part of a mass giveaway by multiple authors, and it has definitely led me to wanting to check out more works by this author.

I’m torn. I think it either needed to be shorter, like just focusing on the DM misunderstanding and "isn't that hilarious . . . unless maybe? end scene" -- or it needed to be twice as long to allow for the emotions to outweigh the negotiations of starting a kink relationship with someone new to the scene. And I feel like they should have waited a day before jumping into things to let Bob process, no matter what he thought he was ready for.

Fun mm novella

I love D&D and I love kinky mm romance so this story fit the bill for me perfectly. I had so much fun laughing at the confusion between the two characters around the different types of DM that they were talking about. Alex Silver packs a lot into this novella and I never felt like the relationship story was rushed the way it is too often in novellas. Great book.

Bob stumbled into the kink, BDSM world by looking for a D&D Master and it's hot. Martin's pretty much everything Bob has been looking for his whole life but didn't realize it. Did I enjoy all the kinky stuff? Hell yeah, I did! So did Bob! Enjoyable, steamy kink-tastic story!

A cheeky romance

The word play is amusing, indeed, but the real winner here is the character building. Can't wait for more in this series.

Gosh this was just what I needed! Light and sweet but super duper sexy. I may have giggled like crazy about the initial confusion

'Dungeon Master: An MM romance (Summer of Adventures)' by Alex Silver

Cute start to the storyline due to the misunderstanding between the two MCs about being Dungeon Master, neither being clear what the other was on about.

Okay...sooo, I am a long-time gamer, the D&D and RPG/MMORPG types, and this premise caught my eye as it seemed like a great set-up for some hilarious confusion, like a contemporary version of something Shakespeare would have written.

A nice surprise was discovering that one of the MCs was a POC, who was both an experienced Dom and who also usually took good care of his subs, both during & after game-play. Watching over the other people in his life, both business and personal, was also important to him.

I also liked that he used the familiar color/traffic-light system (green, yellow/amber, & red) during sex-play, so that he could keep track of his sub's comfort/safety levels.

Not being a member of a BDSM group, I wasn't sure I could rate some of the game playing/power play scenarios fairly, although I did ask a couple friends, but I can rate for other things.

From my perspective there were a couple times where the situations were borderline non-consentual and abusive. Not having a conversation with a new sexual partner about BDSM and safeguards and safewords before you get into it is a big Red Flag and a NO!

I felt that Martin (the Dom) was being insensitive with Bob, since this was Bob's first time being involved with any BDSM play at all, and for Martin to instigate as much rough-play with him as he did, for Bob's first time experiencing this, seemed unusual and off-putting.
He did keep checking in with Bob, but when it got to the point where Bob was getting flogged pretty hard, and he says, "Ow!", Martin should have stopped right there, and after he asks Bob "What's your color?" and Bob seems really spacy, finally saying, "Lime" (which is a combination of green & yellow), so THAT, right there, would be a Red Flag and suggests he at least needed a break, as he wasn't exactly coherent. Even after Martin said something about that not being an agreed-on color, and finally an exhausted Bob stutters out "green", that would suggest to me that he might be in sub-space and Martin needs to stop the game-play right then, letting Bob come down gently from a pain-induced "high". Jeez, this is Bob's first time; give him a break! He may not realize he needs it, but an experienced Dom would know how to read that type of situation.

Let him experience more things over time, as that seemed like a LOT for a first time experience into this life-style.

I was a bit surprised at the ending, as it just seems to 'dangle' and peter out (and not in the fun way)...presumably to go on into the next book in the series, as there is a teaser for it.

So obviously I have mixed feelings about this storyline and even though I liked the beginning, it ended up leaving me feeling off-put and a bit unhappy with how some of the scenarios in this book played out.

I read this over a year ago, and just realized it; not interested in the rest of the series.

I am very, very critical of BDSM in books. I don’t read erotica for the thrill, instead I read it and cringe and wince my way through since it is full of such dangerous and awful ideas. So I was both terrified and excited to read a BDSM romance by Silver. I adore Silver and his books, but oh boy I was expecting this to not live up to his others books because of my issues with BDSM and erotica.

In the end my only issue is I literally have never heard a Dom/Domme refer to themself as a DM. It just has never happened in my experience, so that running joke really was the humor of the book. So the humor and wordplay aspect was eh for me. I could appreciate it, but it but I am much more direct and would have flat out asked so the miscommunication was a bit much for me. It did not detract from the book, it was just there for me.

The real star of the show was the BDSM and erotica, which is shocking to me. There was CONDOM USE FOR ORAL SEX. Yes, that needed all caps. Not only is that huge and never seen, another reviewer rated the book 1 star because there were condoms. These men don’t know each other, the did not discus risk so yes, condoms were necessary. It is a boundary and a health need. So I am beyond excited that condom use was actually represented in a healthy way. I needed that detail so badly. The fact that STI testing is generally a think in Silver’s books before condoms come off for sex is also something that gives me life. I teach sex ed and the fact that no one ever sees these sorts of conversations has the kids telling me I am full of shit and that I am making a big deal out of nothing. I will die on this hill. Condoms during oral sex is needed, until consent for condom less oral sex is explicit and a risk reduction conversation is had. The conversation has to exist. It can not be assumed.

The erotica itself is hot. The power play, the consent, the AFTERCARE. Give me the aftercare. Give me the Dom drop representation that I needed. Give me the full picture instead of “spanking is hot lol”. I need more. I needed this book.

This is the best BDSM book I have read in years, possibly ever. There is consent, there is aftercare, there is condoms. I am just beside myself happy about this book.

This opens with a "tags" list and God bless Alex Silver for clearly having come to writing via fanfiction, I see you, well done.

The setup here is interesting: a busted pipe shuts down Martin's kink club and he has to work out of a coffee shop for a while, where the barista notices him. I like that this is coffee shop AU vibes without being vapid and that the meet-cute is plausible; I also appreciated that the main misunderstanding (D&D dungeon master vs. kink club dungeon minder) is presented in such a way that it didn't feel terribly contrived. Silver handles it with just enough humor and grace that I believe Martin and Bob could be interested in each other and handle the mix-up.

Bob's lack of kink awareness was not as believable, especially when he would start listing things he's done in his sex life. He's hella active and for him not to have stumbled over how that can bleed into a kink community feels like willful ignorance. I do absolutely appreciate the many moments of "I want to be in coffee shop management this isn't a lesser job" because that's a deep narrative in fiction to try to undo.

Three cheers for Martin being a believably bi character. So often in M/M romances (and some M/F romances, to a lesser degree) there's a sense of "I'm bi but now I've met you and I love being gay even though I'm still bi but clearly not as bi as I thought I was" and that's such a crappy form of passive bi erasure. Building in Martin's backstory here, though, gave Martin more layers to be in love with his past wife and in love with Bob and capable of both. (Because BISEXUAL FOLKS ARE REAL, IT'S NOT A SEESAW THAT TIPS WITH NEW PARTNERS, STOP DOING THAT, WRITERS.)

The many times along the way that Bob and Martin do check-ins, safe sex conversations, and kink negotiations were fabulous. Yep, this is fiction rather than a pamphlet (as I've seen one other review get mad about) but people start in fiction. Silver weaves such conversations in mostly naturally, setting a tone for people reading this to learn to do so themselves. I'm all for allowing fiction to be both a fun read and an informative piece that lives at the back of your mind until it's needed.

The writing style was a bit frustrating as it felt very choppy and stilted, especially at the beginning. Overall, I was rooting for Martin and Bob, even if I wouldn't want to hang out with them for another book.

There were parts of this book that has me laughing so hard I cried (hello Dungeon Master discussion), but a lot of it just wasn’t for me.

I didn’t really feel a connection between Martin and Bob. Even the sex felt muted (maybe because I didn’t find this couple believable).

It really bothered me that there was no “I love yous”. Even in the epilogue where they going to go without condoms they never said it to each other. Martin alluded to it (being in love), but it was not verbally expressed to each other. I definitely noticed that.

I also wasn’t sure how Bob/Bobby would handle Martin having a scene with someone else. That would have been an interesting thing to explore. Martin stated he was a switch and that he had only been submissive to his late wife. I was curious if he would ever submit to someone else in the future.

All in all, it wasn’t for me. I need more connection, heat, and romance.

I thought this book would be a lot more fun than it is turning out to be. As another reviewer said, the misunderstanding started to become tiresome and there really wasn't much of a big reveal. It fell very flat.
I am having trouble finishing this book as it is becoming just one sex scene after another. If you are looking for a book that is mostly sex (at least at 60%) and not much character development, then you might enjoy this book.

I will probably move on to another book and try to finish this later; it is never a good sign when you put a book down and don't want to pick it up again.

I gave this a 3-star rating instead of just 2 stars because it didn't find any egregious grammar mistakes or continuity errors.

D & D DM seeks Kinky DM

Bobby, who works at a coffee shop, has spent the week ogling business man Martin, and Martin's not shy about flirting.
He invites Bobby out for a little time together, and Bobby reciprocates.
It isn't long before Bobby finds himself at Martin's workplace, suddenly realising that his Dungeon Master and Martin's are two different things entirely.
It's kinky, funny, sweet, sexy and I loved it.

It's not bad for a fast kinky read

Decently written for a kink based novella. Well researched on the BDSM, as a member of that community, thank you.

Only a few things threw me off at the start. Mostly the descriptions of the guys. Almost as if you toyed with the idea of making one a POC, but back tracked. The mentioning of looking like a white guy. Very odd. Much better options for describing the main characters.

Hot fantasy

Bobby and Martin are such a fun couple. Not only do they get along together just talking, but also in the bedroom. When Bobby needs a dungeon master for his D &D game he approaches Martin. Of course to Martin that means something completely different. Bobby is shown a new world and Martin finds the sub he has been longing for.

It was a good book, I read it so yeah. Bob was a sweet man that wanted Martin to notice him and when he finally did, it was fireworks. Martin was the dominat one and I liked that. They were cute and the kinky part was good

Early on we learn that Martin is Black. That didn't seem important to the book, so I'm not sure why it was mentioned.

I enjoyed reading about Bob and his gamer friends in the coffee shop.

Short but kinky

Short but kinky, I really enjoyed it! Still felt the connection between the 2 MC's even with the shorter read.
