Arik has the legendary weapons he needs, but will they be enough?
Even with the Whispering Sword and the Mask of the Fallen, Arik still isn't strong enough to take on the southern warlord threatening the entire continent. To reach his goal, Arik will need to master the art of using two weapons. But progression is never easy, especially with newfound enemies and the erratic behavior of his illusionist companion.
Heading west, Arik hopes to reconvene with a former teacher through spiritual means. If it's possible, he will have a fighting chance. If not, Arik will need to find another way to grow his skill. While the legend of the War Priest continues to guide his journey, the esoteric nature of the legend has left him at a dead end. Arik may need to change course.
Deepening his study of chi, Arik discovers aspects of his power that are brand new to him. How far can he push the power? And if he reaches a new level, will they be detrimental for him in the end?
A showdown is coming, one that Arik can't avoid. He may be an unlikely hero, but he is the best chance the continent has of avoiding war.

I love this series so much. It just hits all the right buttons for me.
There's a huge amount of - real - information used between these pages and you can see clearly that the author does his homework. Every possible thing is covered here: friendship, lifelong learning to progress in skill, mind and body, strength of character, tragedy, betrayal, a tentative affiliation, warfare, and the deep emotional involvement of losing a loved one. There are sections where the prose is so beautiful, almost poetic, that it made me want to cry. I love the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. Make you think...
Tayaura is a wholly different character and personality from her father, however Arik and Tayaura manage to share and adapt knowledge, and become wiser and more understanding of each other and their skills as a result. Arik needs to cultivate more power, and comes to an enlightening awareness of the world around him and how this can be utilised in combat.
Fantastically strong series, great world building, interesting characters, and always has something to teach us. Roll on book four.
Author Harmon Cooper continues his series of Arik, the steadily improving War Priest. Having great control of healing magic (revivura) and developed some control of illusion magic (chimuchura), he is also learning warrior magic (thunderura) and the magic under them all, Yokaura.
It's a good thing he's learning, because he wants to get revenge on the current dictator Nobunaga who killed his family and friends and has his sister hostage. Along the way he has to complete dozens of side quests to help friends and achieve goals.
Highly entertaining. I think this was my favorite so far.
I really tried to hold back and not read this. My plan was to give myself a bit of a breather between books 1&2 which I loved so much that I read 'em back-to-back. A breather because I knew that Summer Snow had just been released and I wanted to give Harmon Cooper time to recoup and start book 4... But who am I kidding? I'm Miss self indulgent, incarnate! I got no power of resistance. So damn look at poor me! I finished Summer Snow! And it was excellent btw. But now I hafta wait for Harmon Cooper and Travis Baldree to get me the next book. Tears.
Arik is continuing his journey to avenge his school and learning to control his power. There are surprises and lots of action in this one. You definitely need to read the first two books to really get the most from this book. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next in the series.
