He’s a billionaire doctor with a supportive family. I’m an artist who can’t keep a day-job while taking care of my little sister. We’re opposites in every way.
My BFF and I are going out to meet men. Lots of men!
I’ve been focused on other more important things, but when my best friend insists we do something fun, I give in. It’s been a long time. Did I mention I even needed to dust off my Jimmy Choo’s?
His chocolate brown hair and piercing dark eyes find me in line outside the club, and my stomach does cartwheels. Yes, he puts the yum in yummy.
It gets us in and when we connect, it’s fireworks—my heart beats triple time, and I’m doing something I never dreamed was in my DNA.
It was only a onetime thing. I knew we weren’t star-crossed lovers. We were quick, down, and dirty.
Then it was back to real life—bills, keeping a roof over our head and food on the table, all while dealing with my sister’s chronic illness.
When my sister takes a turn for the worst, we head to the emergency room and my jaw drops and not because the doctor is dressed in a tuxedo. It’s because it is him.
We are opposites in every way. Dr. Davis Martin saves my sister’s life and somehow he’s out to save mine.
Doctor of the Heart is a stand-alone, steamy romance with a happy ending. It is the first in the Men of Mercy series.
This was a good debut book and a great start to a new series.
I wasn't sure how to take Davis at first. I almost thought he was coming across as this alpha male, but he's really not. He's wealthy and just wants to help Paisley. It's very insta-love with him it seems.
If I'm being honest, Paisley got on my nerves A LOT. I really felt for everything she was doing in supporting her sister, but man, she was so stubborn. I got it to a point, but seriously she did not want help for 80% of the book. Not to mention everything with her mother. I really wished she would've gotten a backbone way earlier than she did.
Overall, these two make a great couple. I really wish this book had an epilogue, though. Something to show where they are in the future.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Paisley's out at a club, convinced by her friend to finally enjoy a night of just fun, when she meets a gorgeous guy who gets them into the VIP section. They have an instant connection, but Paisley's got such a complicated life that she can't help but know she's over her head with this guy, so she leaves without letting him know how to find her after. But that complicated part of her life soon has her in his orbit again when her extremely sick sister is rushed to the ER and the gorgeous guy turns out to be Arabella's cardiologist. Now that Davis has Paisley back in his life, there's no way he's letting her go again. He just has to chip away at the walls she has around her heart, walls built of extreme independence, stubbornness and the sheer determination to care for her little sister.
Davis has never been affected by a woman the way he is by Paisley. He knew when he met her at the club that she was going to be his. When she disappeared without word, he was lost, but now that he's found her again, he plans on keeping her, forever. Her and her adorable, very sick sister. He'll heal Arabella, protect her, and Paisley, from the worst part of their lives - their mother. He has the resources, and the love, to do so, he just has to make sure their mother doesn't do something so horrible that everything ends in tragedy.
For a debut novel, Doctor of the Heart is great! Paisley, Arabella, and Davis are such a wonderful trio. Paisley is such a sweetheart, and has the biggest heart, all for her sister, and then Davis. And Davis...oh boy but he's a swoony doctor, loving, so in love with Paisley and Arabella, and seriously sexy. I loved them together, and am excited to read more as this author brings us more in the Men of Mercy world.

Between the blurb and the premise, I needed to read this book. Unfortunately, I think my expectations were too high. Davis and Paisley meet at a club and both do things they never normally would. And then just when they think they won’t see each other again, they cross paths in an ER. Now, at this point, I am still very excited about their story. As real life circumstances start to stack up around them, is when I started to lose interest. I should note I never lost interest in Davis, or Paisley’s sister Arabella. Davis was a knight in shining armor. He was exactly who Paisley and Arabella needed by their side. And that’s exactly where he was. Sadly though, Paisley didn’t see it that way. The more he helped, the less I liked her. I know her reactions and decisions had a lot to do with her mom and the situations involving her, but she should be getting better about it, not worse. Things started to become very predictable, and I was not enjoying the parts that I should have because of it. As soon as the girls’ mother predictably became interested in Davis’s money, I was ready to dip out. I skipped ahead, just to make sure my suspicions were correct (sadly, they were). Paisley continues to undermine Davis’s emotions because they’re only supposed to be casual, even though they never were. She refused to meet his friends, because that makes them too serious. Even though she’s already spent time with his family, and then goes to spend time with his family directly after this argument?! I don’t know which way is up and which way is down with her. After some more skipping, I found more predictable things occurring. I also discovered she was still communicating with her mother, and emotionally babying her sister. That’s when I officially called it quits. There was so much going on that didn’t add to the story, it took too much from it.
Just because this isn't my cup of tea, doesn't mean it isn't yours! I'm listing this as a technical DNF
First, I loved the loving relationship between Paisley and Annabella. It wasn't fair that Paisley had to give up school and her dreams to take care of her younger sister. But she never complained or gave up, even when life knocked her to her knees.
Unfortunately, they had the mother from HELL and KARMA couldn't arrive fast enough to give her what she deserved.
I understood that Davis loved them both, but he needed to involve Paisley in the decision every time he felt that he needed to rescue her. Great story!
Paisley is not living the life of your typical 23 year old. Instead, she is stuck working dead-end jobs trying to make enough money to make ends meet while caring for her younger sister, Arabella, who has a serious heart condition. So, when her BFF invites her out for a night of fun, she can’t say no and finds herself a whole lot more fun than expected before making her escape back into the crowds.
As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Davis has a high pressure job. When he sees the gorgeous blonde in line at his brother’s club, he makes sure she gets a VIP pass and all the fun she could ever want. But, when he goes to get them drinks from the bar, she’s vanished . . . and he can’t stop thinking about the woman who got away.
When Paisley needs a miracle, however, it appears in the form of Dr. Davis Martin at the hospital ER. And now, Davis is out to save more than just Arabella’s life . . . he wants to save Paisley as well!
Congratulations to Grace Maxwell on her debut novel! I adored Paisley and her little sister Arabella. Both had to grow up fast, being left to handle life on their own when their deadbeat mom skips town, but they are incredibly tight with one another. Paisley would do anything for her sister, including giving up on her own dreams to be an artist. And, Paisley is a super cool, and seriously intelligent ten year old who melted my heart! I felt for Paisley and her distrust for those trying to help, since that has always backfired on her in the past, and I really adored watching Davis and his parents break down those walls. And, Davis decided almost immediately that he was all in and would literally do anything to make sure Paisley and Arabella had the life they deserved and not the life they were living.
I did feel the plot was a bit implausible at the start . . .It really did feel a bit like rushed instalove at first on Davis’s part, which was slightly off putting to me. But, I was pleasantly surprised as the story unfolded and it went from instalust to watching a real romance unfold as both Paisley and Davis maneuvered through the pitfalls of their opposites attract romance and everything that life was throwing at them. I'm also glad I snagged the bonus epilogue so I could get one last glimpse of their HEA. 4 stars!
I really wanted to give this 4 stars because the romance is so sweet and the relationship between the FMC and her little sister is even sweeter, but the spicy scenes in this just did not work for me.
I read the term "one-eyed monster" in one scene and immediately had to knock a star off from my rating.
The sex scenes felt a bit chaotically written and not well thought out. The rest of the story feels really well done, but the sex scenes ruined it a bit. It almost felt like a different person wrote them.
DNF. It’s so boring and depressing. I’m halfway through and nothing is happening.
Paisley is sinking fast. She looks after her sister Arabella, who has a hole in her heart. As their mother has left them, Paisley is massively in debt as she keeps losing jobs as she has to look after her Arabella. On a rare night out with her bestie she meets Davis outside a nightclub. Davis is a top heart surgeon and his family are extremely rich.
This is when I decided that I didn’t like either of them. For whatever reason Paisley and Davis have sex IN THE NIGHTCLUB! Sorry but that’s gross. 🤮 There’s something so seedy about that, it’s not sexy and all Davis wants is a quick lay, as ALL women are after him for his money. Yes of course they are. 😔
Then it gets really messy as Davis is the heart surgeon who operates on her sister. Davis moves them into his apartment, so she can look after her sister, more easily. (That’s his story and he’s sticking to it.) He’s powering forward with them having a relationship, and Paisley just wants to focus on Arabella, but she’s fine using him for sex again.
For some bizarre reason Davis who has been shoving all these things at Paisley, food etc, decides to do a background check on her. His dads security man says that she’s just after his money. 😱😱 She’s had all these things thrown at her when she’s in a fragile state, and he thinks she could have set up the meeting at the nightclub!! 😡😡😡 He saw her outside the nightclub getting out of a taxi. HOW DID SHE SET THAT UP TO MEET HIM???
Sorry I read this is the authors first book, but none of it makes sense, and it’s so depressing.
Love from the Heart At 23, Paisley Brooks, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty should be enjoying her life and working towards fulfilling her dreams of becoming an artist. But instead, she is forced to accept low-paying jobs—the only type of job she can get without a college degree and with a record of taking excessive sick-leave days needed to care for her younger sister, Arabella. This was not Paisley’s life plan, but when she was 18, just as she began her studies at university, her dad died. And so, for the last 5 years, she has been more than older sister to her sister, 10-year-old Arabella, she has been the surrogate parent while the girls’ mom is in the wind seeking her next husband whose wealth can meet her extravagant needs.
When mom deserted her daughters, she left older daughter Paisley to care for younger sister, Arabella. What adds to the challenge is that Arabella’s heart has a hole in it— a birth defect called an atrial septal defect or ASD which requires the heart to beat harder which creates other issues, including fluid in her lungs. Arabella had been scheduled for surgery 5 years earlier, but dad’s unexpected death threw the life of the family into disarray. While dad’s love and care had been able to contain and manage mom’s behavioral dysfunctionality, her personal and money obsessions, her problems re-emerged and were not able to be contained or managed by her older daughter, Paisley. Rather mom postponed Arabella’s surgery and left Paisley in charge of her 5-year-old sister. Now, 5 years later, her exceptionally bright sister’s heath is a daily concern. Arabella loves learning, but her health issues make attendance at school is challenge.
So, taking a night for herself upon the insistence of her friend Lucy Yang and Lucy’s mom who will stay with Paisley while her Lucy and Arabella go out for a night, Paisley heads out for a rare evening for herself. A new club, The Lion’s Den, has opened and Lucy wants her overworked, stressed friend to take a break. So dressed in the vintage Chanel, that she bought at Kits Resale Shop when she and Lucy were in high school, and her favorite silver Jimmy Choo sandals, also resale, the ladies head out. So, the 5’10, blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty and her bff, Lucy, head out for a rare girls’ night out. But, even as she heads out, Paisley anticipates Arabella’s possible health problems—it’s how she has had to live when caring for her sister by herself. So, she advices Lucy’s mom that If Arabella has any problems, call the ambulance first, and then call her, and she would meet them at the hospital.
And while Paisley is always anticipating challenges that might confront her sister, what the sweet sister doesn’t plan for is having an encounter with a handsome man unlike any she has ever had with another man. As she and Lucy arrive at the club, their beauty is quickly noted by the bouncer at the door who gives them VIP passes to the upper levels of the club. And it is there in the shadows of the club that Paisley meets a mystery man who sets off fireworks with his kisses and his passion. In the darkness of the club, a shadowy recessed corner provides a setting where the strangers became lovers, but lovers who never intend to meet again. So when only a few days later Arabella requires treatment at the hospital, Paisley amazingly encounters the brown-eyed dark-haired lover from her one-time visit to The Lion’s Den, whom she now meets as a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Davis Martin.
It is a pleasure to discover author, Grace Maxwell, who has crafted a sweet romance with engaging and challenging twists and turns on the path to love. I look forward to meeting all of the Martin brothers following all of the Martin brothers to love and marriage, so I have already purchased the next novel so I can follow the family’s paths to love.
I purchased a copy of this romance through Amazon.
It was love at first sight for Davis when he saw Paisley at The Lion’s Den on night. Davis was a doctor looking for romance but only finding people that was after his money.
Paisley believing she was unworthy, never wanted or looked for a relationship. Instead she spent most of her time looking for a job and raising her sick younger sister. Paisley and Arabella was abandoned by their mom when their father passed away 5 years ago from colon cancer.
Arabella wanted her mother to be a part of her life along with her sister. Paisley always believed their mom would step up after grieving from the loss of her husband so she never told Arabella the truth about the situation with their mom.
It sad but believable how Paisley was so naive when dealing with her mom. Paisley never realized her mom was a narcissist since they were raised by their dad.
Doctor of the Heart is a steamy billionaire romance between Paisley and Davis with lots and twists and turns to keep it interesting by Grace Maxwell. Grace did a great job at explaining the mom and daughters with being long and drawn out. It was easy to read and fast paced. I don’t think I would be reading more books by Grace Maxwell because I skipped over all of the steamy parts but I still have 5 stars. I didn’t want to take a star off because that and I disappointed at how it ended. With everything that Paisley went through it would have been nice to read about her family and the success of her business in the future as well as what happened with Arabella.
I would not recommend this book to someone that don’t like to read about a damaged but strong female character that refuses help when offered. Paisley believe in handouts or using people for money but is determined to raise her 10 year old sister at the age of 23. I received this book as an ARC and decided to leave my honest opinion.
Paisley's life is not typical of someone her age, but it's the life she has been dealt and she's doing all she can to make the best of it. With mounting medical bills, an absent mother, and her little sister's failing health she feels like the deck is really stacked against her, but instead of admitting defeat she buckles down and does what she needs to keep their lives afloat. Which means working all the hours she can, spending every free minute with her sister, and not having a personal life. Her friend sees that she needs a night out and away from things so they hit up a popular club thinking it will just be a night of letting loose, but it winds up being the night that changes Paisley's life forever...
The pages of this one come brimming with well penned words that will tug on your heart strings, make you blush, and set your heart aflutter. Paisley's life doesn't really leave time for love, but once it finds her it becomes almost impossible to ignore. Davis is everything a girl could want in a guy, but Paisley learned a long time ago that those kind of guys aren't meant for girls like her... he's so out of her league. Or is he?
As these two stumble, tempt one another at every turn, and get one step closer to that happily ever after I couldn't help but become wrapped up in their lives. I had to see if Davis's persistence would finally pay off... and it did it in major dividends! This was a delightful debut, the words were entertaining and engaging and it's characters easy to fall for... you can't help but win with this one! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
I have never read a book by this author before. It might even be a debut novel, but it was absolutely wonderful, and I loved this book so much. The characters, the plot and the romance, I adored reading this romance and could not put it down.
This is the story about Davis, Arabella and Paisely. Davis is a HOT doctor who is very wealthy, comes from a great family and has an awesome group of friends. when he meets Paisley at a night club, he falls into insta lust/love. But he cannot seem to find her again.
Paisely gave herself one night of fun, but she is responsible for her sick ten-year-old sister, Arabella, and has the worst mother in the world. One night her sister ends up in the ER and thats where she meets heart doctor, Davis, again.
This is a bit of a Cinderella story as Arabella and Paisley have a terrible mother who treats them horribly. Davis is a prince of a guy and a doctor who saves both Arabella and Paisley and I loved what a stand-up guy he was. But it's not just him, it's the entire family that wants to help them and it changes both their lives for forever.
This was an extremely romantic story, and I absolutely adored it. There are also lots of hot scenes, a family I grew to love and Davis who is an awesome doctor and stand-up guy.
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Doctor of the Heart is the first book in the Men of Mercy series and the debut novel for the author. It was well written, fast-paced, had a cute-meet, and had likable characters. Davis Martin was a cardiothoracic surgeon from a large and wealthy family. After meeting Paisley at his brother’s club, he can’t seem to get her off his mind. When she appears in his ER with her younger sister who needs heart surgery, it must be fate they meet again. Paisley took on the responsibility of her younger sister, Arabella, after her mom leaves them. She dreams of being an artist, but the reality is she needs a paying job to make ends meet. Since Arabella is so sick, Paisley keeps losing her job. She is suspicious of Davis’s help and doesn’t want any handouts. My heart went out to Paisley for all the stress and burdens she had at such a young age, but she did a great job taking care of her sister. I would have liked to see her be a little stronger-willed with her mother sooner and have set boundaries but eventually, she did. Davis was a great guy and doctor. He seemed to instantly fall for Paisley and was willing to help her any way he could. This was a great debut novel for the author, and I hope to read more by her in the future. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Doctor of the Heart is book #1 in the Men of Mercy series by Grace Maxwell. Now, I typically read dark romance. This book is anything BUT. Did I absolutely love it? Yes, yes I did! I like to take a break in between heavy reads and cleanse my dark heart with something sweet and spicy and Dr. Davis Martin was here to deliver.
This story touched me because I am the oldest of 4. When family dynamics aren't the best, the oldest sibling tends to fall into the parental role, as is the case for our female lead, Paisley, who acts as the primary caregiver for her health compromised younger sister. Just when you think your heart couldn't break anymore, Dr. Martin is there to patch things up and make it all better for everyone.
Do you love the idea of a night of unbridled passion turning into a happily ever after? Yeah, me too! Toss in the fact that your money woes are no more, cha-ching! Did I mention the Drs family is absolutely amazing, too? Total package, y'all.
This story was the perfect blend of sad, sweet and spicy. Just what I needed! I look forward to reading more from Grace Maxwell.
This contemporary medical romance is about Paisley, an artist who has been saddled with a younger sister, Arabella who has a heart condition. She is having to work at any job she can find to support them, when their mother abandons them in pursuit of her own life. She has a one night stand in a club and walks away but little does she know, she is going to come across her one time lover in the hospital. Dr Davis Martin is a paediatric cardiothoracic surgeon and he performs an emergency operation on Arabella. For him, Paisley is the one he has been seeking all his life and he bends over backwards to help her in any and every way he can which is incredibly sweet. He falls first but due to his family being prominent and wealthy, his family members doubt Paisley and he has to climb the mountain of inner walls she builds to get through to her that he truly loves her. Paisley is portrayed as a realistic character because someone put in her position would have serous insecurities about going out with an older, immensely wealthy and well known doctor. Their path to happiness had several hiccups along the way but they had a lovely HEA with a bonus epilogue if you sign up for the author's newsletter. An enjoyable read with some swearing and a few sex scenes.
This was the first book I've read by Grace Maxwell. Paisley and Davis meet at a club one night and have sex in the corner of a dark spot of the club. Paisley didn't think she would ever see Davis again because she never goes out because she takes care of her little sister that has a hole in her heart. When she's not taking care of her sister Arabella she is working and taking care of the house. One evening Arabella gets worst and needs to be taken to the emergency room. As they are working on Arabella they call the cardiologist on call that evening. It happened to be Dr. Davis Martin. It shocks Paisley and Davis both. They have a connection that they both feel. He takes care of Paisley's sister Arabella with a new technique in surgery. As you read you get background on how Paisley became responsible for her sister and where their parents are and why they are there taking care of her.
I thought this book had a slow plot. This book made me sad, cry, and aggravated at times. It did have a happy ending but a very slow romance and a lot of sadness.
I recommend this book to people that like slow plot romance books.- Kristina
A lovely romance with so many touching moments. Paisley Brooks’ mother abandoned both her and her sister Arabella and Paisley is now her ten-year-old sister’s guardian. There hasn’t been much “me” time for Paisley, so her friend talks her into a night out. At the club, she shares an intimate moment with a handsome man, but her life is a hot mess and she leaves without knowing who he is. Arabella has suffered from Atrial Septal Defect which has now reached a critical stage. When an illness affects her breathing, Paisley rushes her to the hospital. Dr. Davis Martin, a pediatric cardiologist, is on duty that night and is also the man who shared those intimate moments with Paisley. He has never been so fascinated by a woman and had hoped to see her again. Her strength and love for her sister makes him want to help and protect them. Paisley can’t believe Davis would be interested in her. Can he slowly become a constant in her life, love her and offer her the future she deserves? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Paisley is doing whatever it takes to take care of her little sister with a heart condition when their mother abandoned them, even putting her dreams on hold. Their life isn't easy as she has to work different dead end jobs so there's not a lot of fun in their lives but she does what she needs to do because she loves her sister so much. I felt so much for these two sisters, and it tried to do my heart in that's for sure. Her bestie talks her into going out for some fun one night, and this is when she comes face to face with Davis, a billionaire doctor, and boy do they have a sexy time together. However, before he can actually get any info, she's gone. Little did these two know that they would meet again, only this time it's because she has to take her sister to the hospital. I really enjoyed this story a great deal, and I definitely loved his family, who were an actual support system rather than the problem so I have to say that was my favorite thing to be honest. I'm excited to read more of this series in the future, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Ok, so full honesty, I love medical romance, and one thing I really care about is doctors actually going into the surgery rooms and actually stating the things their doing, or at least the surgery’s name or smth. So yeah, that was a positive point. Then there’s the fact that I love the character Micheal, for personal reasons😂😅. Even though we get to know him briefly. Now, I am a sucker for good smut. And to be honest, I wasn’t very satisfied. The wording was a little too straight and textbook-ish. And I found myself not actually liking the book emotions going through.
The conflict was good. Communication was surprisingly great. I love the billionaire-helps-FMC-but-still-respects-her trope😂. So yeah. That was good too. Also, the little girl thrown in the middle helped as well.
I also have to add, like, in the beginning it escalated waaaay too quickly, but for the sake of the plot I understand.
Some of the concepts in the book were repeated a bit too much I found myself feeling deja vu.😅
All in all, a quick, cute and sassy read. With some minor problems.
Paisley has the weight of the world on her shoulders. She has the responsibility of taking care of her younger and extremely sick sister. She struggles daily to keep her sister safe and happy. On an unusual night out she meets a man at a club and has a instant connection and an amazing time. Davis is a hard working doctor that met an amazing woman at a club and can’t stop thinking about her. He is shocked when he is called in to help a patient and sees Paisley. Davis goes out of his way to help Paisley and her sister. Paisley is proud and extremely independent so when her life starts to change she is worried. This was a great story with many layers and great characters. I truly enjoyed the depth of this story and the rollercoaster of emotions it took me on. I am really looking forward to seeing where this series goes. I really enjoyed Davis’s family and am very interested to see what happens with them next.
30% in and I’m forcing myself to finish. I’m quite bored by both characters and turned off by the so-called hero.. I really disliked the hero’s brothers, his friends, and his internal monologues. Endless telling vs showing with stilted conversations and storytelling
Paisley being all like “omg I can’t be in a relationship right now” while doing everything that people in relationships do was also ridiculous. As was her very special art and how connections are all that matters in this world.
The drama with her mom was over the top and essentially cartoonish.
Some of the sex scenes are super cringey, so I started skipping them(the phrase “one eyed monster is weeping” was used). Davis was pushy to an unfit degree (packing up her furniture and cancelling her lease without consulting her is NOT romantic in any of the multiverse.)
All in all, I will probably be avoiding this author in the future.
Paisley lets Davis screw her against a wall in a nightclub 5 minutes after they meet- gross! A few months later, Paisley’s sick sister Arabella needs an emergency heart surgery and lo and behold, the billionaire pediatric cardiologist surgeon is none other than the man she screwed that night- Davis pursues her relentlessly from that day forward— he literally wants to do everything to help Paisley and Arabella— Paisley fights the attraction and pushes back constantly so it doesn’t look like she’s after his money— Paisley’s mother is an evil monster who gave up her rights to Arabella and constantly berates Paisley any time they communicate- Now Davis’ family takes to Paisley and Arabella- they open their hearts and home and use their connections to give them both a better life— The sex scenes were really good and then finally towards the end of the story, Paisley lets her guard down and accepts the help and generosity..

What a wonderful emotional and entertaining romance! I can’t even believe that it’s a debut novel.
I admit that I have a weakness for a Cinderella-style romance. Paisley is in such a hard spot caring for her much younger sister with a serious heart issue and trying to keep their lives together. She is so strong for the both of them and has an independent streak a mile long.
Paisley and Davis do not have a meet cute, they are all lust from the beginning. And as Paisley dashes off, she does not leave behind a glass slipper. So, Davis has no way to find her.
Fate is on their side and Davis is not going to make the same mistake twice. I love how he locks things up with Paisley without her even realizing all that is going on.
I loved how she was able to forge a relationship with Davis’s parents and how they helped her pursue her dreams. There is plenty drama in the story, but so much love and support to go along with the trouble that Paisley and her sister face.
This is the 1st in a new series, and for a debut, this author has done an incredible job in weaving this storyline. Paisley will do anything for her sister even give up her dreams of becoming an artist. When Paisley is on a night out, Davis spots her in the queue, and ensures that she is given VIP tickets. When Paisley’s sisters’ health takes a turn for the worst, she takes her to the ER, and is surprised to find the sexy man from the club is a paediatric cardiothoracic surgeon. The sparks fly between these two, and they may be complete opposites, but they completed each other perfectly. This is a well written story which has family, romance, drama, intrigue, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining and toughing compelling page turner. I received a free copy of this book via Wildfire Marketing Solutions and the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A new author and I enjoyed this book. This story was a sweet and enjoyable read. The story revolves around Paisley and Davis. Paisley’s sister, Arabella, has a serious heart condition. Paisley is working part time jobs to care for her sister . When her best friend invites her out for a night of fun, she feels guilty but never goes out so she goes, finding some unexpected fun. Davis is a cardio thoracic surgeon. His job is very serious and intense. He notices Paisley in line at his brother’s club, and is attracted to her so he makes sure she gets a VIP pass and all the fun she could ever want. But, when he goes to get them drinks from the bar, she’s vanished and he can’t stop thinking about her. When Paisley needs a miracle for her sister, it comes in the form of Davis who’s just the surgeon needed. Davis is out to save Arabella’s life and win the heart of her sister, Paisley.
Loved this and learned a bit about cardiothoracic surgery I loved this story – right from Paisley’s and Davis’s hot and heavy first night to the lack of a trail for him to find her afterward. Only to find each other again in the hospital when he’s about to do heart surgery on her 10-yo sister, who is her ward. This went from a one-night stand to instalove on his part at least, to forging a romance one one step at a time. The families could not have been more different and family drama is always an intriguing element to me. This medical romance / billionaire romance / Cinderella romance has all the catnip. And there is a bonus epilogue if you sign up for Grace Maxwell’s newsletter. Great debut novel by Maxwell and I look forward to the rest of the series. So glad Book 2 – Doctor of Women is available for preorder – the sneak peek sucked me in already, I can’t wait!
If I could give this book more than a five-star rating I would in a heartbeat because I absolutely loved Davis and Paisley in this story. I can so relate to Paisley in so many ways, her hesitancy to trust anyone, her pure unconditional love to her sister, and how she sees herself. Paisley is such a selfless, sweet, nurturing, carrying and dedicated person. Through her struggles and hardships, she finds strength and tenacity, as well as the will to push do all she can for her sister, we see her potential to rise above all that is thrown her way. I do have to say that I Love Davis the most in this story, he is such a wonderful person, so sweet, patient, determined, a savior in every way and a rock you can rely on; this world definitely needs more like him. I was captivated by this book, all the struggles, medical terminology knowledge and sweet chemistry.
Davis is a heart surgeon and a very handsome one at that. Paisley is her ten year old sister’s carer. After one random quickie in the corner of a night club they meet again in an unexpected way. Davis goes far beyond the normal doctor and patient relationship by helping Paisley with way more than her poorly sister. This was a fun, flirty and spicy book it was full of drama and contemporary romance. I despised the girls mother which showed the author wrote her perfectly. I thought the start was a little fast paced one second he offers her a drink and the next they are in a dark corner. Some of the writing was quite medically complicated to understand. I loved the relationship between the sisters and the love they have for each other. This was an excellent book to kept me occupied the whole way through.
I didn’t realize this is the debut book for the author and I think it’s a good start to a new series.
What I liked: I liked the premise of the story and Paisley’s relationship with her sister. There’s a family-related “misunderstanding” scene that had my stomach drop and added the perfect drama. I haven’t read a lot of books set in Vancouver and enjoyed learning about the different sites. It was a great visualization of the area. Paisley’s art also sounded very interesting. There are a lot of characters (friends and brothers) I’m interested in seeing for future books.
The other: After the big climax I thought it was winding down and was surprised there were several more chapters making it feel a bit too drawn out on top of a lot of push/pull. This is a super weird thing to point out but they eat out a lot. I only became hyper aware of it towards the end because there’s no way I’d be out getting drinks and dinner while my sister who I’ve raised like my daughter and has a life threatening heart condition needing medication is in danger.
Overall I did enjoy the story and am looking forward to where it goes. For a debut story I’m really impressed,
An advanced reader copy of this book was provided by the author/publisher with no expectations and in no way influences my review.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t go in for romances over 350 pages, but I was fully vested in the outcome. While there are a few slow parts, they are all integral to the story of Paisley and Davis.
Paisley Brooks is the guardian to her 10 year old sister, Arabella who has heart problems and Dr. Davis Martin is the doctor who finally fixes Arabella’s heart. There’s a horrible excuse for a mother in the story, there’s Davis’s parents who are wonderful and there are other sub characters who all enhance the story.
It’s not an easy road to romance, it’s highly emotional, and as a reader I really wanted to strangle the negligent, absent, and downright abusive excuse of a mother Paisley and Arabella have, but Davis’s mother, Julia is a joy and a great addition to the storyline.
