Hopelessly in love with my best friend's brother.

That's what it will say on my tombstone. Here lies Junior "June" Dorsey. Tomboy. Car lover. Bookworm. She suffered from a severe case of unrequited love syndrome.

It's not like I haven't tried liking other guys. I have. It's just none of them measure up to him.

Baylor O'Brien. Beautiful. Cocky. Talented (on the field and in the bedroom—or so I've heard).

And completely oblivious to my love for him.

When Bay asks for my help, I can't say no. He needs my PR expertise to revamp his reputation and up his chances of being scouted after one scout—the one he really wants—dismisses him as nothing more than a party-loving playboy.

When he asks me to be his fake girlfriend, I accept his proposal.

But how am I supposed to act like I'm in love without revealing the truth? And why is Baylor so good at pretending?

One thing I know that's true:

All's fair in love and baseball.

Wish me luck,

June

This new adult sports romance features two friends destined to become lovers, one sizzling fake romance, and a sexy set of brothers guaranteed to make you swoon.

This laugh out loud romance was an instant favorite!  With characters that were so easy to love, a story line that was absolutely adorable and an ending that will make your heart soar, this book was such a huge win!  If you love the fake dating trope, you so need this book in your life!  The Sweetest Game was heartwarming, swoon worthy and a beautiful love story!
The O'Brien brothers were off-limits.
At least to me.
Too bad my heart didn't get the memo.
That rule had been broken the moment I met him.

I had already fallen for June and Baylor in the previous books.  And while this one could easily be read as a standalone, I can't recommend them enough.  June had been in love with her best friend's older brother, Baylor, since forever.  Baylor saw June as just a really good friend.  When Baylor's pro-baseball dreams started to go up in smoke, he desperately needed to change his act.  Enter June.  Not only could she help fix his social media presence, but by being his fake girlfriend she could fix his image too.  What's a little fake dating to be able to reach ones dreams?
"Please don't hate me for this."
Before I could say I could never hate him, not in a million years, before I could ask what he meant or utter a sound, Baylor's lips met mine……
and my world ignited.
His kiss set me on fire.

I absolutely loved June!  She was sweet, heartfelt, such a good friend and a hard worker.  She lived with her dad to save money while going to college.  And she worked for him in the auto shop he owned.  I adored the relationship she had with her dad!  Plus the relationship she had with Emmy, Baylor's sister.  They loved and cared for one another so deeply!  But doubt could be June's worst enemy.  She had no problem playing the part of Baylor's girlfriend, but she didn't think Baylor could be feeling what she was.  There was no way!
It was all fake. I knew that— but then why did she keep breaking into my thoughts?

Baylor was someone you will fall hard for.  He had so many layers to him and we got to see all of his different sides as the story progressed.  Baylor was a player and loved baseball.  He was destined to go pro, but had his sights set on only one team.  When that team snubbed him, Baylor was desperate to do whatever to get in their good graces.  Having June be his fake girlfriend?  Of course!  The things he did for June, to help her or just out of the kindness of his heart was swoon worthy.  Baylor was kind, thoughtful and caring.  But he wasn't kind to himself.  He didn't think he was worthy of love or anything good besides baseball and having sex with random people.  My heart ached for Baylor and I kept hoping he would see himself as June saw him!
Leaning in, he put his lips against my ear and said…
"I know this is supposed to be pretend, but I wish it was real."
My breath caught in my throat.
"Then I could just kiss you whenever I want."
He paused.
"Which is basically every time you open your mouth."
Turning to him, I noticed he'd put on a playful grin.
"If this was real," I breathed, "I'd let you."
His grin slipped, and I couldn't seem to stop staring—until  someone cleared their throat.

Together June and Baylor were absolutely perfect.  The chemistry between them was intense and sexy.  And when they toed the line of friendship *fans face*, it was soooo hot!  But mistakes were made along the way.  Baylor was blind to June's love and while he thought he knew June, I loved that she stunned him again and again.  So watching their friendship turn deeper gave me all of the feels!  Rounding out the story were side characters I adored!  I loved Baylor's relationship with his siblings and mom.  They had such a strong bond, it made my heart so happy!  And I loved how they could see beyond his cluelessness.  Also keep those tissues nearby because there was a scene in this book that got me right in the feels and I cried ALL the tears!
She shook her head. "You told them I was off limits."
"Yeah."
"And what made you think you had the right to do that?"
"I had every right," I said.
"Oh really, why?"
"Because you were mine."
I took a step closer,  watching her eyes flare.
"You are mine," I said.

The Sweetest Game was sexy, hilarious and absolutely adorable!  From that first page to the last, this book was smile inducing!   The banter was a ton of fun and the characters captured my heart.  If you love new adult romance, the fake dating trope, friends to lovers or sports romance you should definitely pick this book up!
"Want to know something, Sunshine?" he asked, his breath hitting the side of my neck.
I nodded.
"I'm mad at you too."
My lips parted, and my breath caught as he nipped my earlobe.

PS I have a guess for the next book..... Masie and Dex??

Fake dating! We all know how this ends, but it is so worth the journey.
I don’t know if I’d call this one sweet though. This had way more spice than the usual Cookie books, and it takes a really long time for Bay to realise he has caught the ‘feelings’. It’s more a fake dating friends-with-benefits type scenario. Different from the other books in the series so far, but a lot of fun.
Everyone seems to be paired up now except Emmy, but I assume Dex gets his book next, then Finn because he’s younger. Emmy seems to be responsible for most of the pairings, so I am very interested to see the tables get turned on her.

This book was everything I’d been waiting for!! Archer and Chase’s stories really built up the romance between June and Baylor, and this book did not disappoint!!

First of all. Baylor is the sweetest! His first aid kit? I nearly died of cuteness. And that drawing 😍😍😍😍😍

The fake dating trope is hilarious, and I love how Baylor kept trying to convince himself that he wasn’t really having feelings. My heart broke for him when his mom first told him about the Scout, and I love how June was ready to jump in and help him with anything.

And my lovely June- she finally got her happy ending!! We saw her pining for two books, and it finally all worked out. I spent the entire time I was reading this book smiling, shrieking in excitement, and just waiting for Bay to realize that he loves her too.

Lastly, new character alert- looking forward to Dex and Maisie!

The story about a bookworm who has been in love with a sexy baseball player for as long as she can remember!

Woah! What a read! I must say that I'm a sucker for the fake dating trope cause they always end with them getting together and this book was no exception! I was all for it! And oh my god there is a scene in the book where our main girl, June, is in a Romance book club and one of the O'Brien brothers is in the club. And when I tell you that I was laughing so hard I mean I was LAUGHING cause when the girls in the book club explain to him what SPICE means in the reader world he's like is it a cook book? I could not!!! Anyway this was a very enjoyable read that has convinced me to read the other two book cause one of the O'Briens is a bookworm! and I'm very into that!!!!

Thank You Cookie O'Gorman for the eARC!!!

I was waiting for this book since book one and did not disappoint.
The whole family and friends are awesome.💜💜💜💜
I laughed so hard with the bug.😂😂😂
Bay and June were so cuteeee together.❤❤

Now I'll wait for the next 🔥

My only complain is: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COOKIE, STOP MAKING REFERENCES TO THE WIZARD WORLD.
I know it's a big part of us but I'm done with that horrible person and every time I see mentions it makes me wonder if you're as bad as her.
And I really hope you're not cuz' I don't want to stop reading your books. 🥲

June has been pining for the one guy who’ll never be hers. He’s popular, cocky and (here’s where it gets tricky) he’s her best friend’s older brother. June knows her secret is best stayed hidden because if the truth gets out that she’s in love with the Baylor, she’ll hurt her friend Emmy & she’ll be destined for heartbreak.

Baylor O’Brien is known around Southern U for his playboy ways. And he’s ok with everyone thinking he’s just here for hookups and to play ball. It’s easier that way—to keep everyone at a distance. Until his partying persona risks his chances of being drafted by the one scout who he’s looking to impress. Baylor will need the help of his little sister’s best friend to fix his image. Now, being around June leaves him wondering why he’s sworn off falling in love…

Cookie knocked it out of the park (hehe, pun intended) with this one! I was so entranced and smitten with June & Bay! We have the perfect trifecta of tropes: spicy romance, unrequited love & to top it all off—FAKE DATING 😍 *someone get me a fan*

“𝑴𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒖𝒔.  𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑰'𝒅 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒘.  𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆.  𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆.”

𝒎𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
Cookie O’Gorman is the queen of writing the fake dating trope and The Sweetest Game is further proof that she knows how to write a love story that’s born out of fake beginnings! I was drawn in from the first chapter and could feel how June longed for Baylor, the one who she couldn’t have, even if he had feelings for her. Their fake dating was so effortless and I loved how we get to read from Baylor’s point of view as well. We see just how conflicted he was about his feelings for June, his Sunshine, as he so adorably nicknamed her.

I was also excited to read more about the past couples in the series: Honor & Archer and Charlie & Chase. We get a continuation of the O’Brien family dynamics and how they’re there for each other. The scenes between all the brothers made me so happy! So many LOL moments and times that made me wish I had a couple of brothers to protect me like their sister Emmy does.

June was someone I saw as so relatable. She’s a tomboy who’s been trapped in unrequited love for years and just wishes that Bay would see her as more then his little sister’s friend. I could physically feel her emotions and how much she just wanted Bay to know the truth but was afraid to risk her heart.

And *heart eyes* Baylor…oh Baylor. There was so much more than meets the eye with him. Tough exterior but total teddy bear inside, just for June. I really liked how the author showed us how he struggled with his emotions. And a million brownie points to him for putting his chance at stardom on the line to make things right with June. Oh and the spicy moments between Baylor & June? H-O-T. 🥵 They had incredible chemistry!

I CANNOT wait to read more of the O’Brien bros! 🙌🏼 Maybe Dex (who I absolutely love already) or Finn next?!? This is the perfect NA romance series about sexy men and the women they’d do anything for!

If you love a romance that just makes you feel so happy & like you’ve been swept off your feet, then you’d adore 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚂𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚝𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝙶𝚊𝚖𝚎.

Gods, I love this fictional family so much! Baylor and June's story was set up so perfectly with their interactions in the previous two books in this series. I absolutely knew that their love story was going to be epic.

- A fabulous execution of the fake dating trope.
- Writing that brings the reader straight into the story effortlessly.
- Relatable and memorable characters that absolutely capture your heart!
- Unrequited love that may not be totally unrequited.
- Palpable and scorching chemistry between the main characters.
- Heartwarming family dynamics and squad goals for days.
- Humor and so many feels.
- Distinct characters that all bring something to the story.

Overall, this is the best friend's brother romance that you didn't know you needed. Baylor and June are absolutely perfect for each other and it shows on every page. I cannot urge you enough to give this series a try! These characters are so addicting and each book gets better and better. Baylor and June for the win!

It took me a few days to finish this book. But I had recently read one of get books, so I wanted to finish this one because I knew eventually it’ll pick up. It did. However, it was very light on spice and the MMC was a little conceited and the FMC was a bit of a doormat at times. Regardless, it was a fun read! Might read the next book.

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

This started a little slow for me but it quickly picked up speed! I feel like June and Baylor's story has been lingering in all the other brothers' books so far, and I was excited to finally have Baylor realize what has been in front of him the whole time.

I'm a huge Cookie O'Gorman fan. I enjoy her the sweeter hear she brings to her novels. This one is a touch spicier (ie a little more descriptive) but I still think fans of the sweet romances will have no issues.

She also knows how to make a swoon-worthy hero. Honestly, Baylor says everything you want a dashing lead to say and more. He's got charisma for sure!

I really loved watching June become more assertive as the story progressed. It was great to see her character evolve and grow.

Another solid New Adult romance! Can't wait for the next one!

4 Begins And Ends With You Stars

The Sweetest Game is the third book in the Southern U O'Brien Brothers series by Cookie O'Gorman.

Okay, so this managed to be my complete favorite. It played out so beautifully. Even the speed bump on their path to an HEA was masterful! I enjoyed their battle to not only understand and believe in themselves, but finding and blossoming under the love they shared.

It's hard not to adore best friend to lovers romances. There's all of that impactful history and the exploration paired with timidity that overtakes then when they start to accept their feelings.

Mostly, I enjoyed how much better we came to understand Baylor. He's always been depicted as just the player, both on and off the field. To see behind the curtain, to his fears and insecurities humanized him. I knew there had to be something genuine behind the facade, given how amazingly protective he's always been of his siblings hearts. But the way June was so committed to him, and sang his praises was the beat recommendation of his character.

I think Seaver is a potential love interest for Emmy.. The way she dismissed him right off the bat because June mentioned he might be a Jock pretty much sealed it, for me. Then there's the intense heat building between Dex and Maisie. She's my favorite new character, and I can't wait for her book. Yet, I feel so bad for Finn... He's so enamored with Rose and she's unbelievably blind to it.

Cookie O’Gorman has written another amazing book! I cannot sing her praises enough. There is not a book that she will write that I won’t read! Her newest release “The Sweetest Game” is a delightful read! This story is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. If you are anything like me though, you will fall in love with the story and go back to read the previous installments. Baylor is absolutely swoon worthy and you’ll fall in love with him from the very beginning. If you love the fake dating, childhood best friends, and sports romance tropes this book is definitely for you!

“The Sweetest Game” follows June and Baylor, childhood bestfriends, who begin fake dating to help Baylor’s image. Baylor is a talented baseball player looking to make it to the big leagues and with June’s help he just might make it. June is studying PR and promises Baylor that with her helps he’ll be able to get a spot on the Yankess and fulfill his lifetime dream. But after years of havingn unrequited love for Baylor, will June be bale to last as his fake girlfriend without revealing how she truly feels? Find out in Cookie O’Gorman’s “The Sweetest Game."

This author is amazing. She writes incredibly sweet romances, but her NA is just as great.

I loved the O’Briens since the first book (which is definitely my fave) but every single story that comes out keeps me smiling, swooning and wishing for more!

Can’t wait to read about Dex & Maisie, Finn & Rose and the biggest question… who will be Emmy’s love interest? Please? Let it be Paragosa! An enemies-to-lovers 🫶🏼 but also, a brother’s best friend trope! OMG so many possibilities 🙈

I knew I am in love with this book series but this book truly made me fall all over in love with the O'Brien family. ❤️❤️❤️

June and Baylor's story was amazing!! It was sweet and spicy and gave us so much romance. It was super funny too and I loved to get to know some more interesting people that we will hopefully get to learn more about in the next couple of books.

Beside my beloved scenes with the mayor couple I also loved the growing girl group dynamic. Oh and look out for the dancing scenes. They were amazing - from the very first tryout to the end performance. 😉🥰

Can't wait to see which sibling will be next in line and also looking our for more Cookie books in general. There will never be enough! 😍😍😍#favoriteauthor ❤️❤️❤️

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK! Baylor is my new #1 book boyfriend. Like sorry he’s first now. I would give this book a 5 if it wasn’t for the teacher plot line that was lowkey out of place. Despite how blind and stupid Baylor was I wouldn’t change him. I absolutely loved this book. I love this series and I can’t wait for more books in it. So far this is my favorite book. God it’s so good. Only thing better would be take the teacher plot line out and add a little more spice. Would 1000% recommend! So good! 4/5

Such a good book. June is such a good person. I like how she is there for Baylor all the time but it takes a fake relationship for him to see it.

girl who has loved him ALL ALONG and suddenly posing as his FAKE GIRLFRIEND? OH YEAAAA!!!! the way she has loved him ALL ALONG and let me tell you, it. is. OBVIOUSSS. and somehow this guy is OBLIVIOUSSS. and of course, he needs GIRLFRIEND to get into his DREAM TEAM. and funny enough, the scout who does NOT want him for his playboy reputation is the GODFATHER of his fake GIRLFRIEND!! talk about coincidence. baylor really got lucky. even when their fake, he just treats june so well! so well to the fact that BOTH OF THEM are truly questioning the deceit of the relationship because OF COURSE, the FEELINGS AINT FAKE. alsoooo CREDITS TO THE BOOK CLUBBB, finn doing it because he is WHIPPED for rose and the rest of the girls doing it too! like i just love it, the found family when IN FACT they will be ACTUAL family in the future?? like all the brother and LET ME TELL YOU, maisie meeting june and somehow helping her and giving her advice on baylor just to SHOW UP at book club?! FATE. i call it. FATE. and we ALL know the next book will DEFINITELY BE dex and maisie!! i love the series and honestly never want it to end. also note- jealous baylor? ALWAYS ON TOP!!! like by seaver OR EVENNNN .. himself. the WAY this girl acted like she had a crush, which TECHNICALLY she does, just.. it’s on her fake boyfriend and he thinks it’s someone else while ALSO FALLING FOR HER. seaver, i read ahead on synopsis and i just can’t WAIT for your book!!

“galling in love with him when i knew he'd never love me back? as inevitable as it was tragic.”

“resting his forehead against mine, he whispered, "she’s got nothing on you. not a single thing."

dex: damn. is that what having a girlfriend is like? because i think u want one.
baylor: well, you can't have mine,
chase: maybe i should call charlie. get my girl over here to tell rawlins how awesome i am.
WHEN JUNE DEFENDED BAYLOR >>>>>

"i know this is supposed to be pretend, but i wish it was real." my breath caught in my throat. "then i could just kiss you whenever i want." he paused. "which is basically every time you open your mouth." turning to him, i noticed he'd put on a playful grin. "if this was real," i breathed, "i’d let you."

"excuse me, who are you?"
"i’m baylor o’brien."
“what do you think you're doing?"
“i'm cheering for my girl,"

"i'm hers. and she's mine."
“yes. i'm his, and he's…mine.
“i didn't know why, but my heart clanged in my chest.”

“but i knew this: waking up early, getting thrown out of class, it was all worth it. she was worth it.”

"seriously, stop flirting with my girlfriend."
"haven't we been over this?"
“i'm not trying to hit on her. we’re just friends."
"sure you are."
"jealous type, huh?"
“no, i’m the protective type. stay away from her."
“okay, okay. but this is my job and hers. we work together, so you might want to get that little green-eyed problem under control."
“i’m not jealous,"
really? could’ve fooled me."
POOR, POOR SEAVER.

“you told them i was off limits."
"yeah."
“and what made you think you had the right to do that?"
“i had every right,"
“oh really, why?"
"because you were mine. you are mine," AHHHHHH

“he was jealous.. of himself” AHAHHA

The first two books in this series were solid 4 star reads for me. This one surpassed those. I knew it would. June and Bay were characters whose stories I couldn't wait to get. Bay was June's best friend's older brother, but they also had a friendship as well. Their fake relationship was destined to be real. I loved every moment of June trying to hide her feelings and Bay trying to figure out when he started to feel the way he did around June -- even when he was being an idiot. His meddling family and their friends added even more fun to the mix. The Sweetest Game was a fun, low angst new adult romance. I can't wait for Dex & Maisie and Rose & Finn to get books. Oh, and Emmy, too. I need them all. Sooner than later, please.

“I’m always happy around you, Sunshine,” he said

My heart fluttered, but I tried to ignore it. “What’s up with the new nickname?”

“After our talk, I couldn’t stop thinking.” Baylor ran a hand along the back of his neck, I walked closer, getting a picture of that too. He looked so cute when he did that. “You are like sunshine, Junior. Not like literal light that can burn you, or climate change that’s probably going to kill us all, but… Brightness follows wherever you go. Even when my day is crap, and I’m at my lowest, you make the clouds go away. I don’t know if I’m saying it right. Probably not, but that’s what I was thinking.”

He shrugged.

“So yeah. Sunshine.” He said “That’s you.”

😍
Omg I loved this books so much Baylor and June are just so cute and I love their friendship so much and I just couldn’t get enough of them. 💗

This was probably my least favorite book in the series. That doesn't mean it was bad at all i just enjoyed the others more. But i did read this book first so that probably had something to do with it. There would be scenes mentioned from other books that i hadn't read so i couldn't understand.
It just felt like June and Baylor were already dating. And Baylor was so blind about it. He was blind to June's feelings and his own. Even though literally everyone else could see it. It was a little unrealistic. He even calls her sunshine. Which is adorable btw.
I absolutely love fake dating books and i love even more when there's the 'let's practice kissing so i can teach you things trope' and this book has both. Baylor is a player on and off the baseball field until he starts fake dating June. June is awesome. I love how she's more of a tomboy that works at her dad's shop. I always try to learn everyhting i can about cars from my dad so I always love when there's a female mechanic.

Loved it!

June and Baylor were perfect together! I just loved how sweet this story was and how they truly loved each other from the very beginning. I can’t wait for Dex, Finn and Emmy to get their books.

Very quick and spicy read. Definitely a book to read on a rainy day on the couch.

2.5 Stars.

Let me preface by saying that I have read quite a few of Cookie O'Gorman's books and always enjoy them. But I can't say I loved this one and it seems like I am in the minority about it.

I have read all 3 of the books in this series and this was by far the worst in my opinion. You learn about June's very apparent feelings in both other books so I went in to this excited to see her get her happy ending. The characters just feel very different in this book than to how they were previously depicted. Baylor was the party boy and June his sister's best friend that everyone could tell was smitten with Baylor except him. In this book she came off fairly... pathetic, yeah I think that is the word. Especially in the beginning. Every thought was about Baylor and how much she loved him and knew he didn't feel the same. While I know unrequited love is very angsty and dramatic this representation just did not feel organic or relatable to me. And Baylor, while he did change some in the previous book, also felt very one dimensional and boring in this book as well.

I do enjoy the fake dating trope but the way this was written felt so rushed and confusing. There were parts where I felt like I had skipped a page somehow because something happened without any real context or reason. Even in the first chapter it seemed out of nowhere for him to just randomly ask her to pretend to be his girlfriend and she immediately accepted without much explanation and all his brothers thought nothing of it even though they had known her for so many years and she was their sister's best friend. Even as the story moved on their chemistry never felt compelling to me.

The roach scene did have me laughing out loud though. And while this was not my favorite I still enjoyed it and read it within a few hours.
