We are at the end of the series, and it is time to choose sides...
After three months of relative peace, Alekka is about to be jolted by a seismic shift, for ambitious lords and vengeful gods have only been biding their time, choosing their allies, hiding from their enemies, deciding when to make their move. And that time is now.
In Stornas, Reinar is feeling strong, working and training with vigor, imposing his authority on those around him, though internally he is beset by fears. The threat of Alari grows each day, and though he carries himself with confidence, wanting to assure his people of their safety, Reinar knows that it is only a matter of time until the goddess makes an appearance.
Far away from Reinar, Alys is trying to turn her life around, though a terrible secret preys on her mind. She hasn’t told anyone – not even Stina – though the arrival of an unexpected visitor forces her to finally reveal what she has done.
Sigurd is lost, far in the North, where he’s been desperately trying to do what his father wanted. But to what end and at what cost? He is not alone in his journey, and though his loyal friends want to help him, he wonders how much longer they can continue to remain hidden from Alari and Eskvir and those who wish to kill them?
And in Orvala, Mirella has concealed the Sun Torc from her enemies, plotting with Eskvir, hiding their plans from Tarl Brava, knowing that as soon as its power is ignited, Alekka will never be the same again.
Wrath of the Sun is the final book in The Lords of Alekka: a gripping six-part epic fantasy series. I hope you enjoy it!
I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and have done for three-quarters of my life. The other quarter was spent in England, where my kids were born. I have three of those, and they’re very cool. I’m a bit demented and thought it would be a good idea to have them a year or so apart. I’m still recovering from that misguided notion, but am convinced that a month in Bora Bora would set me right!
Speaking of travelling, as much as I crave a tropical island escape, you’re far more inclined to find me hankering after snow. We don’t have any of that in Auckland – not a drop! And, although it did snow occasionally in dear old England, I’m still looking for the up-to-your-window sort of snow experience. I come from Viking stock (my grandmother was Swedish), so maybe that’s why I have always craved the cold, white stuff. In fact, my husband and I bonded over our love of scarves.
'Twas love at first discussion about the pleasure of a good scarf!
My reading journey I was drawn to historical romance as a young reader. I loved anything by the Brontë sisters, but I think Jane Austen was my favourite author at that time. It was a toss-up between Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre for my favourite book as a tween. As I got older and developed a real love of history, I became obsessed with anything do with Vikings. I fell in love with Bernard Cornwell and Robert Lowe, Giles Kristian, too. But there’s always been time to fit in the next Diana Gabaldon. Her Outlander series is probably my favourite series ever (great tv too!). History is my one true love, so some of my favourites lately have been C.J. Sansom’s thrilling Tudor series and Patrick O’Brien 19th century naval adventures.
I always thought I would write the Furyck Saga as a historical fiction series, but I never found a period or place where it felt possible. Ultimately, I realised that actual history was far too limiting, so I stepped away from reality and entered the wonderful world of fantasy, and that’s when the fun started…
It took me a long time to become a writer.
I have ring binders and ring binders of stories, screenplays, tv show concepts, and book ideas that I’ve been creating since I was 10-years-old. I was always very fast with ideas but seeing them all the way through was a lot harder, and eventually, as I grew up, life and work got in the way. I would try writing Winter’s Fury off and on, but I never got very far, and dissatisfied, I always gave up, telling myself there simply wasn’t enough time to fit writing in around three children, two dogs, a graphic design business, etc. etc. But what I quickly discovered is that time is what you make of it.
Inspired by an article I read about James Patterson, who got up early to write his first book and fit it in around his job, I started making writing a daily discipline; the idea being that, bit by bit, I would eventually create an actual book. At first, it was tough. It felt like I was training for a marathon and I didn’t even know how to run. But every day it got a little easier and eventually, I started to write more freely, and one day I had enough of a book to show my husband. At this point it was either, forget it again, or keep going.
Just finished this last installment of the Lords of Alekka, and I loved it! Such a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions! Ms Rayne delivers and beautifully details all of the details, turmoils of both mortals and gods. The greed and avarice of some and the enduring love and kindness of others. I frankly didn’t know if we’d get a happy ending…but it was a just one. These books a truly a saga of Love, Adventure, Troubles, Betrayals and Redemption. What more could you want?
Great finale to this series! A.E. Rayne is an epic storyteller and I adore this world she has created and written so many books about.
My only gripe with this series is how frequently there is a point of view shift. At some points it’s like every couple paragraphs there is a shift in perspective or location and it makes the book take longer to read because you have to keep reorienting yourself to a new scene.
The Furyk saga made my list of best reads for 2022. This series is right up there! I typically shy away from story "continuations". I'm so glad I decided to give this series a spin--and quickly got sucked into binge reading all six books! In addition to being well written from a grammar point of view(well structured sentences, no missing sentences /words, correct punctuation, etc) this series had it all: exciting plot, FANTASTIC characters, a believable world, epic battles, and mesmerising characters and character relationships. Read this series --you won't be disappointed!
We finally come to the end of the kingdom wide battle over who will rule Alekka, where we gain a victor for ruling over both the gods and the humans. It was a wild ride!
The Reinar, Elin and Alys triangle didn’t really play out well to me, nor end in a satisfactory way. I can’t say much more without spoiling, but I can say the overall end to that was well, it’s just the way it came to be was lacking, IMHO.
Alys was just as nerve wrecking as Jael with her lack of conviction in who she truly was and the part of herself she was denying. I was slowly dying inside each and every time she cowered and looked weak after having already done something spectacularly huge in an earlier situation or battle. I’m writing this review from my grave… She did some powerful things in Ottby against Mother Arnesson about a week or so after being there, if I recall correctly. Then she went to Orvala and left with a bang… for months later she’s a coward again? Ridiculous.
Then there was the inconsistency on whom they decided to revive. Alari bought back Arnon, Eskvir Mirella, hell Alari even brought Gysa back from a fire death! Valera brought Raf back. But we couldn’t bring back Aldo? I am not happy about that at all!
There were some deaths I was extremely happy about, as I’m sure you will be too. Some enemies and bullies finally got their comeuppance but most of them were anticlimactic and that left me feeling unsatisfied, wanting to revive them to do it again another way. Lol
Alekka was not as awesome as Brekka, neither were its lords or heroes. The standouts to me were Vik, Ake, Stellan, and Helgi among the fiercest of the heroes. The only BB among the women was Agnette. She was a real trooper and didn’t let anything let her falter or stop her kindness and care for others. She fought hard and loved harder. The baddest B in Alekka! Going to miss her. Ludo, Jonas, and Berger (despite my distrust and dislike of his moral duress to his deceased brother) were the next line of great warriors. Ollo… I was just surprised he made it to this book with how he was described, along with his belly.
Now, I will venture back to Jael and crew on their way to Brekka from her triumph in Alekka and see what evil is lurking there. See my notes, highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!
Whew! I read book #1, then I had to read book #2 and darnit! There are 6 books in the series! I don't recommend anyone reading #6 first and only #2 or or #3 . They are so connected with the characters and events. Gods and goddesses, magic, dreamers, mortals, gods interacting with other gods Lots of evil characters, god and mortal. Many characters that "died" or are mortally wounded are brought back to life or miraculously healed. There were some sad second deaths of beloved characters. I was really disappointed that the relationship between Reiner and Alys took 6 books and 800 pages into book 6 to become mutual and real. Alys lack of endearment thru the whole series was annoying. Riener professes his love maybe in book 5 and Alys just leaves to take care of the kids? When they did finally accept mutual attraction love...there was kissing and excitement..thought we might get more! We'd waited so long for some spice between them. It was clear by the next section that they finally shared their love. Author wrote more in about Rafe with Sigurd and Gundrum's sexy times! Overall, I enjoyed this series! I didn't expect to have to read 6 books! They are all connected and so many of the characters are in all the stories. The gods and goddesses become much more a central part of the story in the last two books. Earlier editions are the wrath that they bring (Mother Arnesson!) to the weary travelers and castles. Dreamers ended up doing more magic than dreaming than in the first couple of books. SO much happened along the way to book 6! AE Rayne found easy ways to solve problems and tidy things up and make way for other resolutions. I wanted to see more of Sigurd in god form helping his friends and family. Instead, he watches from Gallybroke ( the gods world)The other gods were fully engaged and and interacting (for good and bad) with the mortals. Why wasn't Sigurd more present and helping? His popping in at the end seemed too late and like an after thought, even though he had a big role. I wanted to see him more in the action with Reiner and Stellen! I became very fond and attached to many of the characters and will miss them.
AE Rayne, your stories are so entertaining, and keep me on the edge of my seat! The characters are vivid with life, and hardships! You never know what mysteries lurk around every corner, or what's going to happen next. I love that in a story! Thank you so very much, for your fascinating insight into the histories and background for these amazing female lead stories! Almost all woman are stronger than they know and can survive !
There are some author's who are just gifted, AE Rayne is most definitely one of them. I put my other enjoyable read on hold, just to read this and I was not disappointed in the least. I absolutely love, loved this series and instalment. I can now boldly say that I have read all the books by this author and they have each been a delight to read. Thank you AE Rayne, looking forward to more awesome books.. You are truly a gifted writer!
I always say I’m not good at leaving reviews. I will say that I absolutely LOVED this book! There was so much excitement and tons of action! I laughed and I cried sad and happy tears! A. E. Rayne is a fantastic writer! All of her characters really came to life for me. Some I loved and some were just so evil I couldn’t help but wish bad things to happen to them! I highly recommend this entire series! You won’t be disappointed! Just be prepared to read late into the night!
Honestly one of the worst series I have read. I can't just put away a bad book I always have to finish them and this series takes the cake. First from book one it's drawn out way too long, bad guys are smart, good guys all dumb. Everythink leads to an ending but taking 6 books is way too long and having the bad guys win so much is not great reading. It literally takes to the 6th book for any kind of closure. It is a happy ending but took way too long. Would not recommend.
I loved the Furyic books best. This series was good but drawn way too out. I found myself skipping pages to move it a long. I loved some characters but others seemed annoying and silly, Eddeth was not a character I cared nor developed a liking for her as the story progressed. Rape occurs often in this book and not enough loving scenarios between those who love each other. I found that odd and lacking in this story.
After bingeing all six books(not long after bingeing the six in the Furyck series) it is 6.00am as I was forced to again read through the night! And yet again, I am left a worn out, emotional wreck. Do not read these books unless you can abandon & neglect everything else in your life while you immerse yourself in a world of warriors, gods & dreamers. Think Lord of the Rings meets Game of Thrones(without the filth).
A fantastic fantasy series with an outstanding storyline and great world building. Has great character development and very interesting characters. A page turning read with plenty of action, lots of magic, and unexpected plot twists. I highly recommend this book and series that were written by an outstanding author.
I have followed AE Rayne's series, both the Furyck saga and now with the end of the Alekkan series I'm at a loss at what to read next! These sagas take hold of your heart and emotions are triggered as events occur. I am a huge fan and hope there is lots more to come from this amazing author.
The final saga was a fun read with several twists and turns along the way. The wrap up after the tumultuous finale was fairly abrupt and deserved another chapter. All in, the series was very fun to read with a free flowing style of writing I truly enjoy.
A SEMI-COLON, a SEMI-COLON, MY KINGDOM for a . . .
I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite the author's endless use and misuse of the subordinating conjunction "though" and her obvious aversion to semi-colons. Nary a sentence escapes her usage of "though," nor has she the slightest conception of the proper usage of and need for semi-colons.
I could not stop reading Wrath of the Sun. ( book #6 in the series Lords of Alekka) This book as well as the prior books, had everything, magic, love, evil, and most of all it held me intrigued from being to end ! I love this series and would highly recommend it a friend.
I like the characters and story line. There was enough different stories happening to keep things interesting, but I feel each book could have been half the length with the same amount of effect. I've read two series from this author and feel the same about both, need to be more concise while maintaining the story plot.
This book is really intense, with a lot of storylines. Things were looking dark for the main characters, but they continue to discover more about themselves, and their talents. The final battle scene is very vividly described, and intense! I enjoyed the ending, and after reading the 6 book series, I am truly glad I did! It was long, but it's an incredible story that I found enjoyable!
This is an exciting end to this saga. No spoilers except to say some of the people we have become to like do not make it to the end but many do which was comforting. The links to a different story tempt me but I am having a break for a couple of books which will hopefully calm m
My head was jumping all over the place! So many characters in so many places. Sometimes there would only be a couple of paragraphs and it as jumping off to somewhere else. Once everyone ended up in the same spot, it got terribly exciting so I ended up loving the end. It just wasn’t an easy process.
I love the character development, the layered plots, short glimpses of so many interwoven plots. Gods, humans, animals, dreamers are all so wonderfully full in their character. Thanks you for this series and I hope more are coming soon.
Amazing author. This Epic Fantasy Adventure is about as well written as it gets. Alys' story is the main point, then Reinar and Sigurd brothers but not, Sigurd is a god of Alekka, being raised humans, by the king of Ottby
I have really enjoyed all of the series, and this last one was fantastic. Rayne writes such wonderful characters, I feel like I know them. I am looking forward to more stories set in Alekka.
I received this book for free and wished to leave a review.
Damn that was really good. Enjoyed the writing style an how she went to each person or a group it gave a better insight on how they were feeling or what they were doing. Can't wait to see what comes next. Thank for the great read! I
Wonderful ending to The Lord's of Alekea series. I loved the entire series. The characters were well defined and interesting. The story is exciting and full of twists and turns. Definitely a good read.
An epic end to the Alekka series. This book is very Action packed that has dreamers fighting monsters, gods killing gods and kings killing kings. Best book in the series it is a must read
What a marvelous series! Wonderful world building, and strong character development make this another great series. If you love fantasy stories this is a great series to read.
