I don’t know my name. I don’t know why I woke up alone on that beach two years ago. What do I know? That I can fight demons better than even the well-trained Seraph Force.
For the last hundred years, demons have been a plague upon our world. And in each attack the only outcome is the death or disappearance of the victims. Untrained humans do not survive clashes with these creatures. And in the last few years, these attacks have only increased.
No one knows why.
The Seraph Force protects the residents of Sterling Peak. They patrol at night, allowing the citizens to sleep soundly. Across the bridge, the residents of Blue Forks only have me. But I have to fight in secret. I can’t draw attention to myself or my two wards.
But a chance encounter changes all of that. Now my skills have caught the demons’ attention and the attention of Graham Michael, the leader of the Seraph Force.
Sadie Hobbes is a dog lover, martial artist, avid runner, mother, wife, and Amazon best-selling thriller writer under a different name. She can often be found before dawn wandering her yard with her dogs, dictating her latest novel. If anyone were to see her, they would seriously question her sanity as well as her fashion choices. (Think rain boots over pajamas plus a bulky cardigan). But it works for her!

The book needs serious proof reading. The plot is predictable. There is good character development. The action was okay and the romance was not too spicy.
I love heroin,at certain point couldn't put book down and that is huge compliment from me.I understand need of author to explain a lot at beginning but could do it slowly in process of getting to know everything and everyone.I dont like where this is heading....but i will read another one.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
3.5*
Accidentally deleted from 'all' shelves when I meant to remove from just one! -- Thankfully I had the original shelf open in another window, and it was just one page that I was able to grab a screenshot of, so I can re-add all 17 books. I don't store reviews, so I have clue what else I added beyond the star rating, sorry! :(
I'll try to recall to add my thoughts, again, when I do a re-read.
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
This book grabbed you right from the beginning. A woman wakes on a beach. She doesn't know who she is or where she is. She has only the clothes she has on and a knife. She hears fighting and defends two children that demons are trying to kill. This starts Addison Baker's journey. Addie wakes up in Blue Forks a town that is outside of the "Angel Blessed" town of Sterling Peak. In Blue Forks everyone is poor and has to work to survive. Demons have been attacking the small town. There is a masked avenger that patrols the town at night. In Sterling Peaks the town is controlled and protected by the Angel Blessed. Angel blessed are people descendant of Archangels. Addie works in Sterling Peaks as a maid to an Angel Blessed family. She comes home to Blue Forks and her 'family" of Micah, Noel and Torr. At night she patrols the town. The Angel Blessed become aware of Addie's strength and fighting ability. They seek her out. Is she one of them or something else?
Not what I usually read. Fantasy yes but very rarely horror. We find our heroine Addie washed up on a beach with no memories of who she is or how she got there. Two children are being attacked by a demon and by some miracle she is able to fight it off and save the children. She finds a world ravaged by demons and the people are either the haves or have nots---The haves are the Angel Blessed and the have nots are the demon cursed. She ends up keeping the two children with her, getting a job and finding a run down place to live. Being Book one in a series I am going to hunt up Book 2. It makes me wonder what will happen as the surprises just keep coming! No spoilers!
I really enjoyed this book, the plot was interesting, and it kept me captive. The reason for only 3 stars is because the book could really use a good editor. There were a few repeated paragraphs, several words left out, and a several words that didn't seem to make sense. I am not a grammar nerd by any means, and some parts had me scratching my head until I was able to piece together what was trying to be said. However, that said if you can overlook these grammar issues, I think you will be surprised by this book. Now on to book two!
I hate giving this a 3 star rating. I LOVED this book...until the end. Why make angels the bad guys? I just don't get it. It's kinda gross, and makes God the bad guy, too. Maybe this is just the Christian coming out in me, but I hate it when authors do this. They certainly can't be believers, it makes them seem more like not just unbelievers, but those that are vehemently angry with the God they supposedly don't believe in. It breaks my heart! I was so looking forward to the next book but I'm not sure if I can stomach it now.
Opening scene gives you Addie who wakes up on the beach with no memory of who she is or how she got there. Fast forward two years and you have learned that there was a demon angel war. Now people are living in what used to be the old world, but are living in fear of more demon attacks. This is where we meet Graham and other wonderful characters. I loved the setup for the story, I loved the characters, and I love how the story ends. I would say more but I don't want to give it away. I really enjoyed this book and I am going onto the next one.
This book was listed as a Christian story. It isn't a bad story, but it definitely is not Christian. There is swearing and taking the Lord's name in vain. This is strictly forbidden in the Bible. It also is based on Angels- God's Angels- mixing with humans and creating children. Again, strictly forbidden in the Bible. Lastly, there is never any mention of God, other than abusing His name, or of Christ. The overall story is actually not bad, but lacks any relation to a Christian book.
Kudos to author Sadie Hobbes! I read book 1 for free and instantly ordered the next 3. What a saga! A new view of archangels and especially the "fallen angel," Lucifer. A wonderful story of Addie finding herself through lots of surprising occurrences. I loved this series! The people are real, believable, consistent and the adventures non-stop. A good editor could clear up some typos, especially repeated words, but they didn't really detract from the pace. I'll read the whole series again, no doubt.
This story is different and good but there are a lot of errors. For example, on one page she writes about a father named Sasha and on the next page calls him Chet several times. I had to keep re-reading, trying to figure out who the heck Chet was. There are several instances of missing words or an entirely missing half of a sentence. This is just laziness and shows a lack of proofreading and professionalism.
A dystopian world of Angel Blessed (the filthy rich) and Demon Cursed (the working poor). Of course there are no angels, just entitled rich who think they are. There are lots of Demons but luckily Addie can kill them, very easily. Can’t wait to find out where this story goes.
Fast paced good vs evil. Addie is fantastic, everting you want from your heroine. The love she is capable of is astounding. Just a pure heart. Then you meet her love interest and it just seems perfect. Her wards are her found family and the level of love and absolute trust is heartwarming. Then you get a major punch to the gut in the last few pages.
This book was totally addicting. I loved the main character because she a strong woman who can take care of herself and fights for those she loves. There is a twist at the end that is leaving me anxiously awaiting the next book.
This book has so many grammatical errors that I found myself in turns, embarrassed for Sadie Hobbs, and angry that she published such a travesty. If you have no pride in your work you shouldn't subject others to it.
I really like the story line, and the twist at the end was mind blowing. I love when I can’t see it coming. It’s very much like the rich vs poor, except the poor only have 1 savior and the rich have thousands fighting for them.
Quick read and an engaging story with likable characters. Be prepared to read past numerous editing errors - repeated lines and such. Not that big of a deal, but would be easy enough to correct.
Really good story. I’m looking forward to the sequels. But this book desperately needs editing. Several paragraphs repeat verbatim, misspellings, etc. I’d give this a higher rating if it was edited.
Amnesia is never a good thing. For over two years Addie has been protecting the innocent from demons with agility, ability, and strength. Things are about to change.
This would have been a 4 star read but for the huge amount of grammatical errors that included repeat sentences. So distracting. Great story and characters, too bad.
A breath of fresh air! An excellent story that did just enough to peak interest, kept me hooked, and finished with a bang. Is the story complete? Not sure.
