Non official english name: Lop-Eared Guard, Lop-Eared Buttler or Everlasting Love. Length: 88 chapters + extras.
First things first: this has an omegaverse setting, the story is about omega MC Yan Yi who is married to the scumbag of an alpha Lu Shangjin, and the rest is the expected chasing crematorium trope (although there was not enough crematorium for ML).
My first impression of the novel was that the writting style made it hard for me to continue. Since I read a fan translation, I can't say exactly where that came from, and I wouldn't say that this is on them because I am very thankful that this novel was picked up (and hopefully it will be licensed one day), however I felt that the story did not flow naturally.
Besides that, the characters were another of its flaws. Their construction doesn't feel compelling due to the poor development. While I understood that Yan Yi's attachment to Lu Shangjin was a result of his backstory and how his entire life he has only known him, the first one who provided him protection, I still can't connect the reasoning behind . The alpha MC pissed me off too and not only because of his despicable actions, but also due to his sob story which is that he saw how >!his father destroyed his omega dad by locking him up and doing experiments on him. At the end, he turned into the same person despite the many years he spent with Yan Yi as an attentive lover, then suddenly turned into an abusive man due to misunderstandings he created. Both MCs just don't make sense to me and a big part of me wanted Yan Yi to choose the other love interests.
Another thing to point out is that the world building was very confusing. Besides the usual omegaverse setting, this one has other elements through the story that I couldn't fully grasp due to the lack of further explation, such as the glands diferentiation(?), the gland transplants, the PBB organization and the villain's plans. The POVs were constantly changing mid chapters and it was jarring to read because I had to go back to some paragraphs multiple times to know what was going on.
The only two arcs that I actually found myself enjoying was when Yan Yi was and when he . The last storyline about Yan Yi being , was entertaining which I appreciate despite how OTT and rushed it got. The was cute too.
The main reason I was able to finish this is because I skipped a few chapters while I went instead to the manhua to get a better understanding of what was happening and it helped a lot. I wouldn't rec unless anyone is willing to go through all of this lol.
To be honest I was discouraged by the bad reviews on NU but I’m happy that I didn’t listen to them. I enjoyed the novel sure it was not the most well written and planed out peace of literature I have ever read but it was entertaining and fun. I do see where the criticism comes from but I personally wasn’t bothered by it in the slightest
